Lovely location Shame it's so dark downstairs. Never enough Bar staff although they do their best.Make sure you registered your car details. QR code or tell the Bar staff. This place should be so much better Shame I only visit off peak and have a Coffee outside on the benches watching the river flow. Been disappointed too many times to eat there

Although it rained all the time we were there, we had a seat right by the window so could see people jogging and some boats moving around. We got there early and one of our friends turned up late but the staff were really good and didn’t bother us or hurry us up in anyway. We had the Sunday roast and it was delicious and apart from too much food for one person, the rest of the plates were emptied I have been here a few times and would recommend eating and drinking in here as it’s a very nice restaurant with wooden beams and a great atmosphere

Thoroughly enjoyed our grilled salmon and Black Forest gateaux. Megan served us and she was very attentive. Our food was piping hot with great choice of garlic potatoes and vegetables. We have never been so pleased. Thanks to chef and waiters.

Stayed at Premier inn next door. Convenient to walk in for dinner. Very friendly staff and food was good value for money. Our server was Sam N. Nice guy and very competent.

Booked to have a new years meal and the atmosphere was perfect. The staff were attentive and friendly. Food was cooked and served up within a good time. All meals were delicious. I had some vouchers and so got the starters free! The rewards card is brilliant!! The points build up fast. View was lovely over the river. Overall a great experience and we would definitely return.

Family dinner,but unfortunately is last time here,,, nearly all the food was cold,few portions of onions ring( unfortunately I think that was cooked few days ago), calamari on side and king prawn ( same, cooked few days ago,,, guys, please put in the bin,not in the plates) sirloin,( very very cheap quality)I tell that we want 4 bottles of coca cola,,,we received 4 big glasses with cola, left I think by anothers customers,,,the staff was a bit ,or a bit more with no respect for the customers,,,,all the food in one word was disappointed and a lower quality.Restaurant a bit dirty

The Pub and Restaurant area was very, very Cold 🥶 I had Steak Pie Chips & Peas (only had 10 chips on my plate) One of the Rib eye meals, the meat was uneatable, it was exchanged for a sirloin steak meal, which was good. Disabled facility's for wheelchair users is excellent. Car parking is Free for three hours if you are using just the Pub, but Free all night if you are using the Premier inn next door.

Half the food on the menu was missing. There should have been a message on the website when booking so we could book elsewhere. Food was bad, served cold and didn't match the menu. Got chips with the salmon instead of garlic potatoes. One meal didn't come until everyone else was almost finished. Place looked run down and dirty. Staff didn't care at all. Do yourself a favour and eat at another restaurant.

First off the table was sticky was given a list of food not available but lots of other food not on list not available had to reorder meals when said sometimes to staff was told don’t know what goes on in kitchen when food turned up it was cold and one meal didn’t even turn up staff didn’t care the place looked like it needs to be shut down buckets everywhere leaking roof I would give this one a miss

I stopped coming here years ago! The food and service was appalling! Thought we'd give it another try. Half the stuff on menu was not available! My description of this place, is a "no frills" restaurant. Should have gone elsewhere. Very disappointing 😞

We decided not to stay in this New Years Eve and Instead visited the Malta. We were sever and expertly looked after by Sharon, she took her time to explain the missing menu items before we ordered. The food was amazing credit to the kitchen team.

We have been for breakfast before here and was really nice and lots to choose from. We visited 31st December 2024 and what a let down. Cooked breakfast was cold, no pastries and when asked for some was told there weren't any. The unlimited tea and coffee was not a self service like when we visited previously, you had to ask behind the bar for this and felt as though you were troubling the staff. The cooked breakfast was not unlimited, was given a food ticket to get 1 cooked breakfast each. It felt like they just wanted breakfast over with as quickly as possible. We won't be returning.

Visited tonight with the family for New Year’s Eve, was served by Sharon who was amazing. Spent time explaining everything to us, meal was delicious, service from Sharon was outstanding, she is an absolute credit to your business. Highly recommend and will definitely return

Really disappointed. Supply issues meant menu was limited (we weren’t warned about this prior to ordering) and we had a substitution with the kids Xmas tree pizza and igloo pudding. One of our kid’s meals was not sent to the kitchen so he had to wait for it to be cooked as we ate ours. Service was incredibly slow; our wait staff changed twice and seemed to forget about us. The food was really bland and mediocre - portions were small (£5 for about 15 chips as a side). No apologies from staff or check on us mid meal.

Staying overnight at the premier Inn. It's 8.30 on a Saturday night, there's nobody in the bar and the guy from the restaurant upstairs told me they had to close early and he can't sell me a beer. This is not an Inn.

Simon literally makes the breakfast experience one that we will repeat. He is so efficient and friendly, works quickly and smiles 😁The breakfast eat all you can and drink as much tea/coffee/juice for £10.99 is pretty good value especially as kids eat free but they could do with more variety of pastries . The cooked was fine. UPDATE…Sadly went back here on a weekday - December 18th - for breakfast and it was awful. No pastries, no muffins, stale croissants. Cooked wasn’t the best and the vegetarian sausages tasted “weird”. Simon was working alone and once again was fabulous, running around and working hard . He really is an asset to the business but unfortunately even his brilliant customer service skills aren’t enough to encourage us back again

Just went for a drink. It's big and tired. It still annoys me how much is charged for non alcohol drinks. Don't drink and drive campaign should get involved somehow.

Yay, just fabulous. New arrangements at breakfast time. Our party had a great time. We had view to outside, we enjoyed the special offer, one adult pays and child or two goes for free. Staff were friendly and helpful. We had great time 🎄😊🙏

Unfortunately they were having supplier issues which meant there was little on the Christmas menu (no turkey roast!). Some of the main menu wasn’t available either but myself and my friends found something to eat and the food was delicious. Our waiter Sam was very good, order was taken quickly and he checked everything was okay. He was also cheerful and friendly.

Avoid and save your money! Cold hard and not trippled cooked chips, burger tough and dry and meat tasted off did not not eat it. Lasagne and kids spag bol water and cold with no taste to it. No high chair offered when seated had to retrieve our own as waitress disappeared for 10 mins . Nice location but horrible food.

If I could give 0 stars I would, the food is utterly disgraceful took over hour and a half for cold food to come out the manager has a bad attitude and I’ll never return , they ruined our Xmas work lunch, the manager didn’t give a hoot and it was the worst food, please don’t go here

Came for a catchup dinner with my brother in law. We chose the Malta Inn, as its equi-distance from us both. The food is your usual Beefeater fayre. It will not win awards, but it's tasty, filling, and arrived freshly cooked and hot. The service was really good. The waitress was really polite and attentive, despite it being fairly busy.

Overpriced imported cheap food. like the Mary Celeste at the bar to get a drink, all the staff hiding in the back. avoid.

They have changed the breakfast set up, you have to use the downstairs now and go to the bar to get you tea's or coffee served to you.

First time we've ever been to a beefeater, and it'll certainly be our last! we took a few of our elderly neighbours out for a treat, we was waiting 5 minutes before anyone came to welcome us, we then had to wait another 5mins whilst he got a table ready despite the restaurant being relatively empty, once seated we was 7 minutes before a waitress came over to us, our guests both wanted mixed grills, to be told they had no steak or gammon, but the price would be the same?? how on earth is this right?? we would have had more drinks but couldn't get the waitress attention. I think I'll stick to harvester in future! very disappointing! spent £75 and we left half of our food!

Decided to visit the Malta Inn as hadn't been for a while. The last couple of times the food has been mediocre and the bar was very slow in serving with many people queuing for drinks. We visited the restaurant this time for an evening meal. My sirloin steak was ok, not the quality that Beefeaters served years ago though. It was cooked perfectly, medium rare as asked. The portion of fries was small, and the mushroom and tomato somewhat bland. The service was excellent, the staff member friendly and helpful. The price of the meal was very reasonable also.

Marilyn was friendly, efficient and prompt. We gad fish and chips from the main menu. Superb. We normally have the same items on each visit. Well done again to the Malta Inn staff

Ribeye Steak cold. Chips cold. The tomato looked tired and saggy. Returned the whole plate of food as a complaint. When it came back, the steak was no better, the chips were not replaced, so I complained again, and asked for separate replacement chips. The third time, the chips were finally okay but the steak was still not hot.The restaurant was not busy at all. Very quiet. The customer seems unimportant. We have been put off Beefeater. This is not the first time. The other Beefeater in Maidstone, the Sir Thomas Wyatt, has also recently disappointed us with cleanliness and poor service.We are definitely Not recommended .

Long time since I've been to a Beefeater and it was really good: good food and really great service made for a fun night. Everybody enjoyed themselves. Will go back.

Absolutely diabolical! If I could give a zero I would! I ordered ribeye steak, it looked like it had been sliced in half! It was so cold the butter I paid extra for didn't even melt. Around 20 dry peas half a tomato and 11 tiny dry chips- that were supposed to have skin on, but looked like shop bought generic frozen chips! Waste of money NEVER AGAIN!

Mel was fantastic, really friendly and chatty. Lovely quick service and food was wonderful!

Service was slow - poor waitress was on her own. Crockery was chipped, food presentation was very poor and the food was obviously “pinged” or reheated. The biscoff dessert was lovely. Waitress forgot a drink and offered it as we paid the bill. Such a shame. The Woodlands closed down and that was dire. This is sadly going the same way.

Met a few friends for breakfast this morning. As lets face it, you can't beat a Premier Inn breakfast! Unfortunately not at the Malta Inn. Massive queue at the bar to order drinks and pay. Unfortunately it wasn't a hot food buffet. The poached eggs were rock hard, had to be returned and switched for fried eggs, which took 15 minutes to come out, which were like rubber and full of grease. Food was warm, hash browns were just briefly shown the grill. All in all the food was awful. Will definitely not be eating breakfast there again.

Always love it here, me and my family (4) went recently, we all got a main and one got a desert and it was just shy if £100. Food is always really good and super filling!

If I could give this no stars I would…. Went for a meal last night 12 of us the restaurant wasn’t busy at all. Had to wait 2 hours to eat and drink 30 mins to even order drinks, a Coke took 45 mins to even come. Had a pregnant woman in the party and chicken was raw no apology just attitude! Don’t come to this restaurant would rather eat dirt!!!

Dry rack of ribs with no sauce, could've definitely been better. Our food was left under the hot-lamp for about 10 minutes even though we went when there was barely anyone in on a Tuesday evening and the staff were just wandering about. Nice atmosphere though and the staff are friendly (albeit very slow).

Been going here for a while to take kiddies for breakfast (less stressful than taking them for dinner), and always good value /quality for the price. Breakfast service used to be upstairs and was always pleasant and kids loved playing with the games available. We had friends over from the West Country and recommended going as always a relaxing experience. The most recent visit (02/11/24), the service was moved downstairs and as the ground floor is larger; the poor staff had a harder time to manage the area (2 ladies on the floor, 1 behind bar). The ladies working were lovely but clearly overworked. You can no longer help yourselves to free hot drinks and need to go to the bar where the lady behind also had to serve drinks, pay for bookings and show people to their tables - which resulted in queues and slower service. I'm not sure why they've changed the breakfast service so dramatically, I completely agree you should pay in advance as unfortunately, I bet there are the odd few who ruin it for everyone and try to leave before paying as the upstairs configuration allowed that (due to toilet location). But if you make people pay before seating them, this will resolve this issue. Please change back to how it was, as it's clearly not working as well now following the change, also not sure why there was no manager during service to support the staff? (Lets hope they were not just sat in an office out of sight).

Usually really good and would rate 5star across the board. Recently went on a Sunday in half term and service was slow and chaotic. Waitresses kept walking past dirty tissues and tea bags on the floor without picking them up. Kids running around with no shoes on. Long wait at bar just to check-in for breakfast when there were tables free. Same queue at the bar just to get drinks refilled. No salt and pepper on tables. Food good and staff were ok but everything just lacked the basics. We usually love coming here as a stop off but could have been better.

Just popped in for a drink as we were passing, the food looked very nice so we decided to eat, glad we did it was lovely, we were seated by the window with nice views over the river. Our waitress was a lovely girl really polite and helpful, food was served quick and was really fresh and piping hot. Will definitely be back

The food was ok. The experience was not. Took over 3 hours for 3 courses to be served. Had to give our car details over to avoid a fine. Waitress was very rude. Would not recommend staying for more than one course.

Getting a Coffee with your breakfast: a long cue. Every drink is made individually by one (1) person who also manages reservations and payments for the whole place.

Absolutely shocking the poor staff really Under pressure !! Waited an hour and half for food !! Some of it was cold apparently the MANAGER didn’t think they would need more staff . It’s half term and Halloween for goodness sake ! The place was a mess food on the floors and under the tables . Again felt sorry for the staff as they were so busy they didn’t have time to clear up . One member of staff behind bar doing drinks and food orders . Had to queue for ages there too !! All in all very disappointed and will not be going back !!

The dining experience has got better and the outdoors is a realy nice way to burn off the calories with the river walks and boat trips into Maidstone if you prefer having a relaxing afternoon.

Restaurant was around 50% capacity for a midweek evening dinner . Staff were really overstretched so service was very slow . Asked for a spit roast chicken which was unavailable as were quite a few dishes .i settled on a triple steak and my wife a sirloin asked for a pepper sauce and Diane sauce both unavailable my with asked for French mustard unavailable she ordered bbq which was about 2 tablespoons in a tiny dish . Steaks were tough without flavour ,my wife said worst steak she ever had . Gave up waiting to order a dessert,so went downstairs to the bar .Stood in a queue waiting to be served by the one server while I was looking around the pub noticing how grubby it all looked my wife then approached and asked to go elsewhere. Place has really gone downhill since my last visit and I will not be returning.

Ate there during our stay at the premier inn next door-PI booked us the wrong number so we had to eat in the bar, food service was shocking -had to wait over an hour for grandsons desert. Food was good but cold. Was told I could use my taste card for all food and drink but bar staff wouldn’t allow it on second lot of drinks

We arrived, waited half hour before our food we were able to order our food, then waited another half our before we finally left without food as we had waited so long. High chairs didn't have proper straps and quite frankly dangerous. We managed to strap our daughter in with the 3rd high chair that was brought yo us.

A perfect drop-off point for anyone walking the Medway to see Allington Lock. Fair prices for coffees and cold drinks, friendly staff and cosy and relaxed atmosphere during weekdays.

This place is woefully understaffed and has been for years. It uses the riverside location as an attraction however I've never been in summer and had to wait less that 30 minutes for a drink. Today I had a breakfast that took nearly 45 minutes to arrive on my table - COLD. One male member of staff was rushing about serving everyone, there should have been at least two. Sausages, warm, eggs warm, beans cold, bacon cold, hash browns cold. It's a disgrace to the name and the staffing levels need to be addressed in the first instance.

Very nice experience with their delicious food. The service was very nice and pleasant, making the meal even more enjoyable.

We had a great experience at the Beefeaters. One can't beat £10 for rump, chips and peas. All was very tasty. Also the view of the river on a sunny day was beautiful. The staff were also very friendly, would definitely come back when in the area.

Nice location but tables need clearing. Lots of empty glasses, bottles. Table was sticky. Food was ok. Probably won't return soon.

Lovely large pub and restaurant with a good drink selection and great food. Plenty of indoor seating, and loads of seating outside along the rivers edge with great scenic views. Loads of parking. Would highly recommend to everyone.

Rubbish service, food and atmosphere.

My only criticism would be the portions are not generous. I had a steak which was cooked perfectly and tender. Service was excellent, however the atmosphere was a bit dreary.

I was a party of 15 for our Christmas group dinner. Food was ordered well in advance as requested by the Malta Inn. On arrival I was told they had sold the last one today. This left two vegitarians with a very tasteless alternative starter. A Sirloin stake was impossible to cut even with a steak knife. I Will not go back with a group for A meal.

Turned up just before 12am probably 3rd in the queue just after parking in the shared carpark with Premier Inn. Signs said to sign in when booking in! Apparently the machine in restaurant not working. Waited about 15-20 mins before being led to our preffered seats. A table for 2 which fortunately had 2 spot lights nearby. We both wanted hot drinks. I wanted tea but there was no Caffeine free tea or coffee so I settled for tea! Our food was gammon steak chips pineapple fried egg and cold garden peas. The chips were not very hot, however we did in fact really enjoy our meal. We were told the carpark was for three hours and we said we would probably go for a walk along the canal after our meal. We were worried we might end up with a heavy fine but the waitress asked us if we had read the terms and conditions which we had. The gammon steak pine apple and egg was beautifully cooked. Would have preffered the chips and peas to be hotter. We did enjoy our stay but felt we should have been told we would have to wait at least 20 minutes before sitting down in an empty restaurant.

Very poor service,had table booked for 7.30pm.food eventually arrived 9pm,had to wait till 10pm for sweet pudding.would never go again as it's far to late and unfair for 6yr old to be out so late.especally as it was her birthday treat

Nice place so many stairs it something out of Harry Potter the issue That I found when visiting was some the banisters and hand rails are lose so be care it is a issue that needs addressing as somebody could fall the injury them self as I had a knee replacement and waiting for the over knee to be replaced the food was great

Used to love eating here and always gave it a high star rating but after eating there today we won't be going back. The bacon on the Chicken and bacon melt was burnt beyond recognition and that weren't the worse the chopped side salad we asked for contained a plastic ring of some sort, I assume or hope was from the dressing bottle, regardless what it was it shouldn't have been in the food. I can't even say they were rushed off their feet there was only 3 tables with customers which then went down to just us in there. In the end they took my meal off the bill which actually was only fair as it went back to the kitchen virtually untouched after finding the plastic object in it. Absolutely disgusting. The only plus side was the waitress Mel, she was lovely and very professional.

It’s a Beefeater so you can’t epcect too much of the food. My chicken and ribs were tasty enough. The service though was excellent which is always valued. Tom was polite, positive, he knew the menu and he knew all the beers and wines. Too often waiting staff these days haven’t got clue. Tom was brilliant. Credit also to the lady running the team (missed her name). She sorted out table problems and checked we were having a good time. Made for a great birthday dinner. Thank you

Food was good basic pub food, the only down side was the queue to order at the bar, which meant that we didn't order dessert or another drink. Staff were quick and friendly not only a couple on.

Rundown and slow service. Very busy in the summer and and amazing location. Best outside along the river.

Over an hour and still waiting for my food, it was over 20 minutes before someone even came to take my order and no sorry for the wait. Place is nice if they can get their act together would be a good place to go. Food eventually arrived and was overcooked worst dining experience I've ever had

Family of 5 had to wait over an hour before we got our food. When it did arrive, some of it was past its best as it had been waiting at the pass for some time. Service was poor and slow. We were tucked right out of the way so no one checked on us unless they were serving someone else. Would have been disappointed if I had to pay full whack but luckily I had a discount code.

Tasty but very very stingy with the meat with a couple of the roasts...tiny bit of lamb was gristly and the beef was two small strips which was odd. Also no chicken available..(chips were nice though).Had a voucher for money off or would have been very peeved if had to pay full wack!!!

We had booked a table for breakfast this morning, at 945, the restaurant was busy, so had to wait to be seated, we got some drinks and ordered our breakfast, after waiting for an hour and a half, our breakfast still hadn't arrived, when asked about the delay, we we're told, sorry we have a couple of new chefs on today, so we carried on waiting & got another coffee, as had to wait in a queue for that, still no breakfast to be seen, at the point other people we're also complaining about the wait, as we went over to the kitchen area, we saw the chefs putting food on the plates, with there hands, at this point we decided to leave, as did other people, none of the staff apologies, or even seemed to notice there was a problem, we will not be returning .
