The Bell Inn in Maidstone

Phoned the day before and was told that we didn't need to book a table in order to eat, yet the following day we turned up and was refused food as we hadn't booked a table, even though we were told not to book the day before, wasn't able to book one there and then either, staff weren't accommodating and actually quite rude. We ended up going to the fish & chips

We just stopped to see if the pub did food, must say that we were very impressed with not only the food, but the staff also. great pub will come again

A reluctant 4 stars, would have been a 5 based on the fantastic food but service let it down. Authentic Thai food which was fresh and tasty, the chef even came out and introduced herself... Massive compliments to her. However, the staff in the pub were not attentive whatsoever... We weren't asked if we would like more drinks and we had to ask for the dessert menu too. We actually felt like we were a hindrance rather than paying customers out for a special occasion. The dessert menu is limited to two choices which are obviously pre made, bought in desserts and they massively let down the dining experience after such a beautiful meal. We would definitely get take away from there again but I'd be put off eating in again due to the staff. A little bit more customer service would go a long way here. Without customers, you wouldn't have a business, so give them a little tlc, you would probably make more money out of them too!

Fantastic Thai food. We regularly visit in person and takeaway. The food is always to a very good standard and hot. We’ve visited with our young children and they’ve always catered for young fussy eaters. Prices are reasonable and Thai authentic. One of the best takeaways in the area

Visited for the first time to celebrate my sons birthday. Knew it was Thai food but really wasn’t expecting it to be as fantastic as it was. The menu has a wide choice of dishes to suit most people and the fishes can all be served mild, medium or hot. The portion sizes and generous (especially the starters) and taste fantastic. I’d love to return on a warm night and sit outside to eat. Highly recommend.

Our 1st visit to the bell inn . Lovely interior . Had a shared starter and bottle of wine . Fab food and reasonable price . It was a lovely sunny afternoon so sat in the beer garden ,however the garden didn't live up to the standards of the interior. Really needs some TLC !

First time here and we will definitely return. So pleased we have found somewhere local that does amazing Thai food. They give you the option of how hot you want your curry, which was great. They were short of staff (chef and waiting staff) when we visited, but they were up-front about it and it didn't spoil the evening, just meant it was a lovely relaxing evening.

Thai food is great when cooked well and here, it's superbly cooked. Very enjoyable, friendly staff, good wine and beer and an excellent live band, Nashville Exile. I'll be back, again and again

Had an 8:30 booking. Arrived 20 mins early, to accommodate they seated us. Took a food order and unfortunately we didn’t get served until 10pm. Food was authentic Thai, however the service was awful.

last night we ordered take away and the lady was quite abrupt to the point of rude over the phone. I wrote a review on google and their response just demonstrates exactly why we would not buy from them again

Had a really great takeaway tonight, really tasty food, especially the beef in chilli jam - good quality beef.

Good authentic Thai food served in a relaxed atmosphere with decent portion sizes. The service was good and the few staff available were rushed off their feet. No wonder it is so popular!

Amazing food in a lively environment with good wine selection. Every dish was delicious and decent size portions. Looking forward to the next visit!

After two hours waiting for our main course tonight we walked out. Waiting staff totally hapless. When we asked about the different dishes on the menu, all they could say was that the various curries, “taste different”! Totally inattentive staff. No one asked us if we wanted more drinks. We had to ask for clean cutlery several times before it arrived. Waitress spent all night trying to avoid us and making excuses. Kitchen staff trying to do too much by serving a restaurant full of customers and running a takeaway service at the same time, the latter of which seems more important to them. Avoid this place unless you enjoy a very long wait for your food.

The food was bursting with flavour and we had the option to choose mild, medium or spicy for each dish as they are cooked to order. The chefs are from south-east Asia so the food was as authentic as possible. The waitresses were both so polite and friendly. The food was plentiful and delicious. The atmosphere in the covered 'street kitchen' area was lovely, it has strings of lights hanging from the beams. It's amazing what The Bell have done to cope with Covid-19 and the large covered areas outside mean that this can be used throughout the year. We will definitely be making this a regular haunt.

Such a lovely meal today. We love Thai food and the food at the Bell totally had the wow factor. Sandra was amazingly attentive and really took care of of us all (me husband and 9 yr old son). Comfortable seating outside under cover and food absolutely delicious. Can’t wait to go back. We had mixed starter, panang curry and green curry with sticky rice - soooo good and highly recommend. Kids mixed meal was awesome for little ones to get to taste different flavours and brownie for dessert was gorgeous. Thank you so much very happy!

Went saturday were early but not a problem .were seated and had a drink before food no rush .both had green curry rice noodles and pancake rolls food was great as was the service .so thanks for a great evening b back very soon

If you want a takeaway I'm sure you will enjoy it. The Thai chef, Noi, cooks not bad Thai food, not authentic but not bad. If however you are going to dine in, forget it or at least bring some sandwiches to eat while you are waiting a lifetime for your ordered food. The excuse that it is very busy is, a. not my problem, I'm a guest and customer and why should I wait an hour and five minutes when the chef came and apologised for the wait and then produced our food five minutes later. I should have ordered a takeaway fir delivery to take 6.Advice. Don't eat in

Easy to get to if your commuting between J7/8 on the M20, a hop on and off the motorway. No fuss and free parking clinched our decision to eat here and we were not disappointed. We decided to eat out under cover at the rear of the pub, I think inside would be more for winter visits. Oh yeah, the food. Top! Both in presentation and taste.

First time visited here, staff very welcoming. Came for a family outing and wasn’t disappointed. Very easy menu to understand but had to ask about kids options. Food itself was excellent, very tasty, all 3 types of meat were ordered with no complaints and empty plates. Kid plates were the same size as adult plates. Puddings we’re good and finished the meal off.

Been to the bell for dinner twice since opening back up and was impressed with food and service .first time had the green curry and second visit had beef jam stir fry . very covid freindly and well set out will be back

First time visiting The Bell, absolutely stunning pub, really lovely atmosphere. Food was amazing, fresh tasting with fantastic flavours. We dined inside but when leaving the pub through to the garden we noticed the outstanding outside space. Will definitely be returning soon. Also would like to add very COVID safe.

Food was outstanding ! Great set up outside - Its huge nice and warm too under cover, lots of heaters. First time I’ve eaten Thai, I’ll definitely be back. Service was great too. Very efficient and all staff smiley and helpful.

I actually came to the Bell twice in April. They have a great set up and have really risen to the challenges that Covid have placed in their way. They are well organised from the welcome at the door to getting seated and ordering drinks/food. The food is excellent and if you like it spicy and hot, you will not be disappointed (mild and medium are options too). The reason for the loss of a star is because they give you a 2 hour slot and even through no-one else is coming to use the table, they still want you to leave. Now, this would be perfectly acceptable if it were a “policy” that applied to everyone but it doesn’t appear to be - my wife visited the day after my first visit and they were allowed to stay at their table beyond the 2 hours. On my second visit, after some cajoling of the waitress, we were allowed one extra drink beyond the 2 hour slot so there’s a lot of inconsistency. I know Covid is a factor and we need to be reasonable and kind but I can only report my own experiences and I didn’t like having different rules applied to me.

Visited this pub twice since it opened again and have to say what a great job the landlord has done the only thing that lets it down is the staff and one in particular being the older lady who is rude and clearly just looks out for the regulars .we asked to be moved to a warmer position of the garden where the table had been empty for over a hour or so her reply was no it’s booked out that’s after asking her twice she then gives this table to the regulars who where sitting a few tables away from us and had been there some time before we got there so it wasn’t for anyone just her favourites well I certainly won’t be returning here ever again shame the staff are so rude shouldn’t be in this job if you haven’t got customer skills or should I say get some training in it .

Visited as a group of 6 friends. Very attentive and friendly staff. Unexpected bonus of live music added to the ambience. Lovely covered seating area, with patio heaters. Fantastic Sunday roast, very reasonable. Will definitely return, highly recommended for a relaxed afternoon, with great food and service.

Went wenesday with my son for a pint had to book for a 2 hour slot . nice big marquee in garden tables all spaced out service was spot on and no waiting .you order on your phone app and pay with card only food looked good to .so very well done to the bell will return soon

Our first meal out since October '20 and being big foodies we couldn't wait to get out! We couldn't have picked a better location, the Thai food was outstanding, the atmosphere was buzzy and to the service was excellent, felt very safe too! It was a bit chilly as we were sat outside, but that wouldn't put us off from returning!

Friendly pub with great food. Just back from a lovely Thai meal at the Bell Inn. The staff were great and friendly and the food was just beautiful and great value. Will not hesitate to return.

Having eaten here many times before lockdown I knew the service would be perfect, however Thai street food was a new experience for me. The food is authentic, delicious and plentiful. I have been back a few times sinse my 1st experience with friends and everyone agrees it's the best Thai in maidstone. Noi and the chefs are brilliant

This is now the second time we have been to The Bell since it changed to a Thai menu. It used to be a quite good run-of-the-mill place, good value and reliable, but nothing special. It is now really worth going (and what’s more, right on our doorstep!). The Thai chef (the landlord’s partner) is the only chef and cooks from 530 to 9. It is all fresh, well seasoned and very tasty. You can have mild, medium or hot. We had medium and it was pleasantly spicy (not too hot for Mrs P but very nice for me!). A friend went with their son a couple of days later, he had the hot soup and he found it surprisingly hot(lager to put out the fires!!).Hi We shared throughout and had fish cakes, fantastic calamari (very light batter, melt-in-mouth and great chunks, not rings) and pork skewers for starters and beef massaman, chilli jam beef and a special of duck with noodles plus a portion of coconut rice. Fair bottle of Malbec -about £75 for 3 equals good value and good night out. I am not an experienced eater of Thai (I loved it) but my daughter has been to Thailand and said this was as good as she has had in England. Praise indeed!

Very impressed with The Bell. On arrival our temperature was taken and we were shown to our table which was safely distanced from other customers.Staff were extremely attentive, friendly and helpful. Menu choice was good and the food was very tasty.Medium soup had quite a kick but was really tasty and the mild main was flavoursome.All credit to the team for making our evening feel very safe but enjoyable.

The pub is now Thai food (not pizza) really good food cooked to order so you can have it as hot or mild as you like. Very safe environment. We ate in the covered area outside with the heaters and fresh air. Really good.

Visited The Bell Inn with friends to try they're new Thai menu. It was fabulous! The food was so delicious. You can order the main courses to suit your taste: mild, medium or hot. I like my Thai food hot, but was advised to try medium, glad I followed their advice, 'cos the medium was plenty hot enough! My friends and I each ordered different main courses, and everyone was equally complementary about their food. Superb, delicious, amazing flavours, mmmmmmm! Just some of the compliments uttered between mouthfuls.If you're really hungry order a rice for yourself, otherwise share one, the amount is generous. The evening menu only consists of Thai food.... so if someone in your party is expecting to find alternatives.... there aren't any! The service was excellent and they have really sorted out the new social distancing rules. They've made them easy to understand and stick to, without ruining the atmosphere. 10 out of 10 across the board! Our group left The Bell Inn feeling like we'd had a normal night out at a truly excellent restaurant. We'll definitely be back.

We recently had a family meal at The Bell and it was the best Thai meal we have had outside of Thailand. The food had so much flavour and was cooked to perfection. Great friendly service and very well organised for current Covid conditions. We have already planned our next visit.

Ordered a takeaway from a change to our usual indian and WOW the food was stunning so delicious and authentic.If you love Thai food then the bell is the best around in kent.The pub itself is very traditional and has a homely feel.Join the Bell on FB as sometimes they offer a discount on takeaways too.

We visited on monday the food was great.But the wait was excessive long.I understand with current circumstances this is to be expected.But evensong it was too long and spoilt the evening a bit really

My partner and I have never tried Thai food before, well after last nights meal we will definitely be having it again!The flavours in all the dishes was amazing, the presentation of the food, the freshness and the value are all excellent. Just had a lovely Thai meal takeout, cooked fresh, and full of flavours and quality accompanied by a lovely cold Thai beer from the The Bell inn, will highly recommend it. And will be back for more.

Had a really really good dinner here a couple of weeks ago. The food took a little while to come out on a Wednesday evening, but you could tell it was all cooked fresh and definitely worth the wait! Very impressed!

We had a lovely Valentines Night meal here. The food was excellent, everything nicely presented and cooked to perfection. The restaurant area was also nicely decorated for the occasion. An excellent band playing in the bar made for a lovely evening. We regularly visit the Bell and the food is always fantastic. In addition all the staff are so friendly, make you feel very welcome and nothing is too much trouble. We love it here. Highly recommend.

We had a great day the food was fantastic ,plus the children menu was a hit with our grandchildren and the hole was brilliant, staff excellent and helpful. Definitely be back again.

Within easy walking from the railway station but plenty of parking if driving to the pub.Nicely decorated and plenty of seating available. The staff were very friendly and happy for me to take a seat while waiting for my friend. I wasn't put under any pressure to order.Not a lot of choice on the menu for a 'flexitarian' who would rather not eat meat but will do if necessary.We both opted for sausage and onion chutney on panini. The food arrived quickly but the sausages were not even warm which was a bit disappointing but I didn't say anything as a cold sausage is ok. The sausage was tasty. One and a half sausage on each panini. Served with a side salad and dorito style crips. The panini was fresh. Cost - £6.50A pint of IPA - cost - £3.60My friend didn't want to drink alcohol so opted for a bottle of Luscombe Elderflower - I was shocked as it cost £3.50 - I appreciate that pubs need to make a living but a soft drink at that price seems excessive to me and why penalise the driver......A couple of daily newspapers available which is a nice touch.Support your village pub is my motto but suggest you check the price of a soft drink before you order it.

Had Sunday lunch at the pub today, our first visit. Quite a small menu, there were 4 of us eating, 2 of us had burgers, which were average (chips looked nice though) beef stew, and roast chicken, also both average and you wouldn't have wanted a smaller portion.

We came for a birthday meal and the food from start to finish was absolutely incredible. Definitely will be coming again!!

Was not impressed with the Sunday Roast. It was £13, so middle of the row in price.

Expensive compared to all around,disappointed with lunch this is the second time (no more) we have gone to the Bell and the food has run out,went in midweek for jacket spuds had none except 2 small ones which were bombed through the micro wave and was not all that pleasant, previously went for weekend lunch had run out of the two choice we were looking at, and its not because this is popular it seems they do not hold enough stock

The Bar staff at The Bell Inn are so friendly, chatty a fun. Mags, Nick, Beth & Jizz make it a fun and welcoming experience. The food is cooked to a very high standard, sometimes there is a wait. But I would rather wait for good food than have food come out fast and of poor quality. I have never had a bad meal, the flavours are delicious with the beef roast dinner high on my list and the Hunter’s chicken burger one of my favourites too. The drinks are of reasonable price with a large selection available. Large beer garden with lots of seating and garden heaters. Live band and music most Friday nights and Sunday afternoons. Live sport on the big screen and a Duke Box in the bar. I haven’t seen the manager for a long time, however bar staff do an amazing job

Hired the venue out for a party, landlord was very very rude when telling us to leave! All together we Spent well over £700 in the pub thought landlord would have been abit more less rude, would never ever go again

What a great little find. Quirky inside, staff super friendly & the food delicious & very well priced.

Unfortunately when we visited I think it was not a great day for staff and we were very disappointed. A 2 course lunch took over 2 hours to serve. We all had simple meals. Food was okay and hot but it was all very disorganised. It’s a shame but we are unlikely to return.

We visited for one of our birthdays. Although we visit quite regularly we had a particularly good experience this time. Our meals were really good and we had a very good waitress who was very attentive. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening at the Bell.

The bar staff and the restaurant staff always make you welcome, food enjoyable and consistent. Chief Ben willing to try out new ideas to freshen the menu.

Wednesday evening not intially busy then it took off. The service was very good as was the food. Only disappointment was no pizza despite numerous posters stating it was the best in Maidstone

The pub was almost empty at 7.30pm, we were greeted nicely by the staff who quickly took our order. Sadly there had been no fish delivery that day so some items were not available. The choice remaining was not so good for me as I am unable to eat chicken. However, I ordered a curry and awaited my meal. After a very long time my meal arrived, I can't say the presentation was great but I can say it tasted very nice. The pub ambiance was not great , it was fairly dark and not very appealing. I think I would look elsewhere if I revisit the area.

Took the family out to have a meal and some drinks. Lovely pub with great food, and a good atmosphere. Will be returning and will be making it a regular occurrence.

We were made very welcome by the landlady. We had a platter of meats to share as a starter which was very good. My wife had a stuffed chicken breast for her main and I had cannon of lamb. Both dishes were very good and most enjoyable. The beer was good and there was a nice atmosphere. I would highly recommend if you are in the area, but book in advance to avoid dissapointment.

Quick pit stop to use facilities and grab a cold drink. Large car park to the rear with ample parking, large garden with shaded area to get out of the sun. Pub was lovely and very inviting, was not going to have any food but was a bit peckish so ordered a burgar and chips. Food was good,

It was obvious that the restaurant wasn’t fully booked when we arrived, however, it soon became very busy but Beth and her colleague took it all in their stride and managed very well. The cook managed to add extras to our order without hesitation. We had a lovely relaxed evening thank you - Nigel you should be proud of all of your staff tonight, they did you proud both behind the bar, in the restaurant and in the kitchen.

Visited this place with family who had travelled down. First impressions were good, nice interior etc. That was until I heard shouting from round the back about drug parifinalia. Then when I stepped out for a cigarette there was two men going into a gate round back and a slim man in chefs outfit and beard exchanging money and small plastic packets!

The worst chicken burger we’ve ever had! Boiled chicken, no seasoning, old bun £12.50!!!! I would be embarrassed serving that. Would have been better off getting McDonalds burger, would be cheaper and tastier, regardless that it would prob not be chicken

I went to the Bell Inn the night before my son's wedding with a group of friends and family including the groom and his groomsmen.

I came here with my lawn bowls crowd. We'd had a good season, but narrowly missed the semi final, after probably being the best team. The pub was fine.

Telephoned at short notice to book a table for Sunday lunch & was not dissapointed! The staff were very polite & attentive & the food was first class! We will definetely be returning & recommending our experience to family & friends!

Stopped here for a lunchtime drink. We have visited other pubs in the area but passed this one by but we most definitely won’t be passing it by in future. It has a lovely garden venue for live music and the menu looks amazing. Well worth a visit. Staff are very friendly and the pub has a lovely atmosphere

Lovely meal, lovely staff, food was very nice and homemade, good portions, excellent gluten free options, staff were very attentive despite being very busy! The lovely waitress definitely earned her wages tonight!

Nice, warm atmosphere with a lovely friendly welcome from the lady who looked after us. The menu had a variety of choices that were not too fussy. We skipped the starter and went into the mains. I had a chicken breast burger which was quite large as it contained a lot of chicken breast and tasty bacon. My guests had other chicken dishes and one had a lamb one. All our meals were absolutely delicious. I did ask for my meal to be transferred to a plate as I am not very good eating off a slate - I am far too messy. We had great service and it was a really lovely evening sharing with good pals that I used to work with. Thanks very much

Visited the Bell while in the UK on a short break from Dubai . Amazing local village pub that is quintessentially English! We were warmly welcomed by Eloise who was outstanding at looking after us. We ordered the roast chicken and beef and it was safe to say the best roast lunch in Kent! Well worth the drive and visit to this local pub and beautiful village...

Frankly the overused ‘Gastropub’ is a bit fanciful.

We had a lovely evening at The Bell recently. It can be difficult to find places that can cope with dairy free and gluten free options but a phone call beforehand reassured me. When we arrived we were expected and great care was taken to make sure that we all had food that was appropriate. Friendly waitresses.

We came here for an impromptu late Sunday lunch with our dog and baby after trying The Oak On The Green and The White Horse in Bearsted (both fully booked unfortunately). The bar side of the dining area was cosy with soft sofa seating and a nice little fireplace. The service was also fine (although we had to wipe our own table clean before sitting down). Unfortunately, the food was overpriced and very disappointing. I had the goats cheese bon bons to start (3 small balls on a plate - tasty, but they did taste like frozen ones that had been heated up, and definitely not worth £5.50) followed by the Thai green vegetable curry - this was a decent sized portion and although very watery, was surprisingly nice (although again, not worth over £13). Regrettably, my husband’s meal was a lot worse. He had pâté to start (which was a tiny portion with really salty bread), and the chicken burger as his main, which looked terrible (and apparently didn’t taste great either). The chips were fine, but the coleslaw tasted shop bought and the burger was two small pieces of dry chicken breast in a dry bun with a tiny bit of salad and no sauce. The pub looks nice, the other customers were friendly and it’s always good for us to find somewhere that is both dog and baby friendly, but unfortunately due to the disappointing (and somewhat expensive) food, we won’t be returning.

My friend always manages to find lovely places for us to eat whenever we meet up. This was another one! A really nice atmosphere and pleasant staff. We needed a place that would allow dogs and The Bell Inn was happy to accommodate our little terrier. The food was lovely - huge portions! I would definitely visit this place again.

Gorgeous food, or as my food snob boyfriend said it was “superb”, they accommodated our little tweaks to the menu (mine wasn’t even on the menu but they did it!) waitress very friendly and lovely all in all a fab little place to eat. Oh and the Sunday roast is amazing!!! So lucky to have it on our doorstep

We were a group of 8 that visit for a Christmas meal, the Bell Inn is a very friendly local pub with staff that really make you feel welcome and nothing was too much trouble. The food was delicious and plentiful. The night we visit there was a live band playing and the atmosphere was wonderful. We were very well looked after and Will definitely be visiting again.

9 of us went for a pre Xmas party. Food was good and the service was excellent. It was a very busy night as there was also a birthday party and karaoke as well. It wad a very enjoyable evening

Booked last minute on Saturday evening and managed to get table for two. Food choice adequate, very tasty and good portion size. Great price too!

Thought we would try this out for a Sunday roast as we have heard good things and it looks lovely in there since the refit.

Went to the Bell for the first time for Sunday Lunch following a recommendation. Absolutely fantastic. Ask for the Challenge Roast which is 3 meats, 2 Yorkshires and extra veg for an extra £2.50. Service was ace from Irish Sandra a young blonde waitress, who was so friendly and really helpful. We will definitely be back very soon.

Outstanding! The team were friendly, accommodating and very customer focused. What may have been a minor frustration due to visiting during a menu transition (website not updated to match the new “in store” options) was very quickly overcome by the team. Our Visit was very relaxing, enjoyable and reasonable.

I had been told how good this pub had become, so ventured away from our normal haunts. Table booked for 7pm, did not want starters, went straight for Mains, Pork Belly and gourmet beef burger, Pork belly was the worst i had ever had, not moist with a crackling top, but a rubbery lump of dry meat and soft fat. The vegetables and apple jus were ok. I should have sent it back, as did a lady on another table a bit later, she was told “thats how we serve it “ . The gourmet burger was a burger, nothing gourmet about it, edible but over priced for a burger. We opted for a shared cheeseboard, it has to be said it was the most bland cheeseboard ever served, 2 huge lumps of mild cheddar, 2 thin slivers of dried out goats cheese and 3 small slices of brie. What was supposed to be home made chutney was clearly, jarred tomato salsa. Although we asked for plates to eat from, they did not arrive. Sadly will not be returning, sometimes better to stick to what you know !
