Went there for a coffee. A long wait for the coffee to arrive and when it did was the most insipid coffee I have ever experienced. Not drinkable. I did mention this to the chap that served me but didn’t seem interested, just looked surprised with a shrug of the shoulders. Definitely never to return. A waste of £7.30 for the two cups.

I was so looking forward to meeting with friends I had not seen for a long time and looking forward to impressing them with my "Local" Due to my personal circumstances I had not been to the Kiln since Kathton House had the pleasure! My decision from the menu was cannelloni ..... it looked horrible to start with, served in an enamel white and blue dish with a handful of unappealing salad mix. (Approx £14.00). Girlie chats took over then, eventually my fork went into the cannelloni only to reveal a mush of the slimy green contents of the meal and a moment later to retrieve from my throat a length of cellophane film which one can only imagine came from a pre packed shop bought prepared meal. Although even a shop bought ready meal of cannelloni is distinguishable as rolls of pasta...... but this was not even distinguishable ! The strip of film was approximately 4 inches !! Yes I was lucky I did not choke and not a pretty sight for my friends and anyone else! Such is life and one has to get over things, but the Chef remained tightly ensconced in his kitchen with the poor waitress left to apologise and offer a free drink and no charge for the meal. Errrr! What meal? and would he have come out if I was choking!! Shocking, at one time the locals were made to feel special, not any more. I'm not one for taking out my mobile for a quick pic of my meal but this time I regret it but I was lucky I did not choke!!

What do you think of this review. As I’m ready to post one. If you’re seeking a place to unwind after a long day, avoid the Tyler’s Kiln at all costs. While the drinks might be reasonably priced and the location convenient, the experience is marred by the utterly unprofessional behavior of Byron. During my visit, I was shocked to overhear Byron bad-mouthing customers to other customers. It wasn’t just idle gossip but outright insults directed at people who had just handed over their hard-earned money for a drink. This kind of behavior is not only unprofessional but also disrespectful and damaging to the atmosphere of what should be a welcoming establishment. Spending your money at Tyler’s Kiln means you’re indirectly paying for a side of mockery and disdain. There are plenty of other pubs where your patronage will be appreciated rather than ridiculed. Choose one of those instead, and let Tyler’s Kiln be a lesson in how not to run a business. PS if you don’t want your personal information shared, I would advise not to share this with Byron. As he shared information about my partner and I to work colleagues of mine, informing them how many drinks I had along with the time I arrived and the time I left. Therefore, i would never return to the Tyler’s Kiln again.

Visited for Sunday lunch on Mothering Sunday with our 3 month old daughter - the first time we had been out for dinner since she was born. Our table was not ready when we arrived at the booked time and we had to wait at the bar. Eventually we were shown to our table and ordered our food. My starter was a prawn cocktail which arrived in a martini glass without a plate, very bizarre. We then ordered more drinks and some hot water to heat up a bottle for our daughter; this took over half an hour to arrive by which time she was overtired and unable to eat properly. The main course arrived on searing hot plates but all the food was cold, the Yorkshire pudding was burnt and the lamb was 50% fat. By the time our plates were cleared, our daughter was asleep and so we asked the waitress how long dessert would be if we were to order it. We were told very rudely that it would be a while, it wasn't her fault and not to have a go at her!! We left without dessert in the end and we're charged the full amount for the meals even though we had been made to pay a deposit to secure the booking! Terrible service and food, do not recommend.

Where to start, got there and offered tap water, then was given the menu and no where near the same as online, had the crayfish starter and sent it back after one bite as no taste and no sauce, water at the bottom so was frozen, then had the lobster only to be told dosnt come with anything, then asked to have some sides and got told we don’t do them but will ask the chef, then it came 2 bites of lobster and was gone, chips were awlful and onions rings were chewy. Then the moment my fork hit the table they cleared the table. We were there for a hour what a joke. I will never go there again and will tell everyone to avoid.

We went for the valentines evening and I have to say I was disappointed. It was my first ever visit and heard great things so was disappointed by not only the food but the atmosphere. Firstly on atmosphere, it’s was very flat, no decoration for Valentine’s Day, sat on table by the door. The only bonus was the rose and choccie at the end. Food wise- Starter of halloumi did not go well with the couscous , flavours did not contrast and had a funky smell. Have two bites and left it. Main of seabass was due to come with triple cooked chips and bone marrow sauce but instead came with tortellini (which I can’t eat as unable to eat pasta) and a bland tomato jus. There was no explanation to change in menu nor was we previously advised. Unfortunately, I don’t think I would ever come back for food. Nice for maybe a drink though instead

The food is "ok" but overpriced for what's on offer. The peas were like bullets (seemed microwaved), the bread rolls were a good quality part bake but were served straight out of the oven, so too hot to handle and still doughy inside. Drinking glasses were a bit grubby and could have done with a wipe before placing on the tables. We visited on a Friday lunchtime and there was a severe staff shortage. It wasn't that busy but the service was incredibly slow. Had to help myself to the drinks menu and go to the bar to get coffee. We understand that this was under new management and they're still learning but we were really looking forward to visiting the Tylers Kiln after the reopening. We won't be returning.

Disappointing... Have been to Kathton House in Sturry and always great food, classic service and well looked after. Took partner to KH @ Tyler's Kiln as they'd never been to old KH - booked well in advance and excitedly looked forward to Tasting Menu with matched wines - a special night out and given as a gift. O. M. G. It was so disappointing! Unrecognisable to old KH standards. Mixture of £100 menu next to bar and pub menu just doesn't work. A couple of the courses had glimpses of old KH quality, flavour and standard. But one of the wines was corked and undrinkable, which we mentioned to the wine waiter who said she'd tasted it, but then did nothing but take away our full glasses. We felt like we were in the way as staff packed up while we ate dessert. No offer of coffee or cheese. Such a shame - won't be going back...

We visited Kathton last night for my father’s 90th birthday and had the most wonderful evening in the private dining room. The effort that the team put in both in organising the evening which included laying on a specific desert because of an allergy that one of my guests has, the level of communication and the clear willingness to incorporate all requests and timings was evident from the very first time we spoke. Yanka was so helpful in co-ordinating the dinner arrangements. On the evening of the front of house manager, Ellie, could not have been more helpful and pleasant in leading her team, and the service we received from her and Grady was exemplary, there were some small delays and hiccups as one would expect in any high class restaurant, where each course is freshly prepared and the way these young people dealt with those was a real tribute to them. On the food front, what can one say Chef, Sam, has recently started and he took time out a very busy service about a week ago to talk to me on the phone about my guests allergy, but also last night after what was clearly was a busy evening for the kitchen took time out to come out and say hello to everyone and chat with us which made my father feel very special indeed. Everyone complimented every aspect of the meal and we all left with a big smile on our faces. We will definitely be returning as we are reasonably regular customers as a family and wish Sam and the team all the best in seeking further recognition for the quality of food and service. Kathton has always stood for this but it is impressive how the ambition and the desire to continue to develop is so evident.

I have been wanting to go for a meal at the Tylers Kiln for ages and having previously had a delicious meal at Kathton House whilst they were in Sturry, this seemed the perfect pairing. The recent negative reviews on this site were concerning but I needn't have worried. We had an absolutely fantastic Sunday roast that was perfectly cooked, followed by a selection of delicious puddings. The portions were generous, the food was hot and the service was accommodating and attentive. The venue itself is lovely - a cosy pub with some quirky features and displays that throwback to the history of the area, and the background music was welcome but not intrusive. Overall, a lovely afternoon and a meal that was spot on.

Having arranged a birthday lunch to celebrate my daughter's 40th, this saw a gathering of 14 family members ranging from 5 to 70, all with keen appetites, and high expectations, descend on Kathton House last Sunday. We pre-selected from the Sunday Lunch menu, which undoubtedly eases pressure for both restaurant and customers and is perfectly understandable for large groups, and meant we had the usual debates about who-eats-what away from the table. It was great having the upper floor to ourselves, as it provided a very intimate and self contained space and worked perfectly. The staff were professional and attentive, we had very close, but never obtrusive, attention, and we never felt forgotten; having met the chef, who spoke enthusiastically and informatively about the menu, it made me understand that Kathton House has talent behind the scene as well as front of house. I will be trying a few variations on cabbage that he suggested, redolent of something from a recent trip to Kerridge's Hand and Flowers, where Chef spent some time. The fixed menu was a well thought out and interesting take on a traditional Sunday Lunch menu, with several nice twists and it was all beautifully presented. I won't go through all the choices we made other than to say I opted for pork belly, which was melt in the mouth gorgeous, with a thinnest layer of perfect crackling. I was very impressed by, and will also recommend, the cured salmon, and my daughter in law was impressed by the fact she was able to interpose something from the A La Carte menu. Most importantly the focus of the gathering was delighted by the choice of venue, and felt Kathton House had delivered her a birthday to remember.

Two of us chose fish and chips for our lunch today because we had heard how good it was here. Our friends were not proved wrong! Being a Northerner by birth I am fussy about this meal but can honestly say that this fish and chips with mushy peas was one of the best I have ever tasted! Beautifully presented. The friendly service added to the occasion and the wait for our meal was just right giving us time to enjoy drinks beforehand. We will certainly be back to Kathton House at Tyler's Kiln maybe for more fish and chips or to sample their Sunday lunch or mushroom risotto which we hear via the grapevine are also excellent! We have eaten at this venue many times (we live locally) and not been impressed by the quality of the food or service under the previous owners so decided to give it a miss for a while. After todays experience we will definitely be back! - not the same as Kathton House when it was in Sturry (which again we visited many times) but who would expect it to be in a totally different setting ?!! Thank you to all the staff and good luck for the future.

Kathton House used to be a standout dining experience in the area. The food was excellent and the service was impeccable. The attention to detail was noteworthy - the homemade butter served with bread was at the perfect temperature for spreading on the provided bread, and the menu and food were clearly explained, making guests feel welcomed. Unfortunately, Kathton House has now moved to Tyler's Kiln, and it appears that it was a buyout rather than a straightforward move. The quality of both the food and service has declined, and the small touches that made Kathton House so special are nowhere to be found. To make matters worse, a pub menu is now being served in the main dining area. On multiple occasions, we have tried to enjoy a fine dining experience at the new location, but each time our experience was ruined by loud tables eating pub food next to us. Additionally, we normally order the tasting menu, but upon noticing that the portions are mostly smaller than their a-la-carte counterparts and that you can order all the items on the tasting menu for 20% cheaper by ordering a-la-carte, we realised how much of a money grab this was. On our second visit, we decided to skip the tasting menu due to this. Overall, it seems that this restaurant is poorly executing a fine dining experience while attempting to trade on the reputation of a once-great restaurant. We will not be returning.

Staff were very unwelcoming, almost felt like we were a burden on their night. All of that on top of the awful choice of decor & white cloths??? Clearly the owners are trying to be a dang restaurant and a classic pub at the same time but unfortunately are getting it horribly wrong and from reading previous reviews others feel the same. Nice for a beer, but the food wasn’t great at all … the pizza in particular was probably the worst “restaurant“ pizza I ever had, with (what tasted like) a shop bought crust, totally devoid of any seasoning, and a somewhat stale aftertaste. Have a drink and save your appetite for somewhere else!
