Good location, good service, no morning pastries, excellent coffee. However, as previously noted by a reviewer the place needs a deep clean and regular daily maintenance. Tables and toilets were appalling. Who on earth is in charge here ?

Charming place right next to Canterbury’s cathedral. A chai with coconut milk and mocha with almond milk are a must. Also great playlists, btw! 🎵

Sat in a for a late lunch, ordered a gluten free pesto chicken sandwich and an iced oat chai latte. My friend got the grilled cheese with a flat white. Felt as though 15 quid was a bit expensive for my order - until the food was served! The sandwiches are massive and both my friend and I kept half for dinner. We both really enjoyed our meals! The staff were warm and welcoming, the cafe was relatively quiet for a Saturday at 12:45pm. There were a variety of cakes available as well, with a fair amount of gluten free and vegan options available. Staff clarified whether my gluten free sandwich order was due to an allergy or a preference. Overall, would recommend, especially for those with a gluten intolerance!

The BEST sandwiches and cake in Town, and I am gluten free. I spend most of my maternity leave here, great atmosphere, always friendly staff and ALWAYS a well made made coffee.

We had great coffee and scrambled egg with avocado and smoked salmon on toast here.

Had a wonderful experience here today. The coffee was lovely and they had a great selection of cakes, all very accommodating to various dietary requirements. The food was fantastic, the sandwiches had fresh ingredients and the bread was very good. Service was great, the ladies behind the bar were attentive and friendly and the young man serving us food was very helpful and made us feel welcome. Will definitely be coming back!

What a great little coffee house! One of the few places open at 9am on a Saturday, it was a bright and welcoming spot from the drizzly morning with gentle background music and a fresh atmosphere. I had a flat white, which was well made and tasted delicious. I also had the porridge with fruit (blueberries and banana), chia seeds and honey. That was excellent and a large portion that my boyfriend had to finish. He had a tea and scrambled eggs with avocado and bacon. That too was good, nicely presented and just the right size to set you up for the day. This isn’t a big place so it’s not for a large group, but it’s cosy for a couple or two.

The good on display looked delicious, the coffee selection lovely, staff friendly with quick service. The toilets very dirty !

Popped in here to do some work with a coffee and ended up staying for a few hours including lunch. Coffee= Great Food = Great Service = Great Wi-Fi= fast / stable used for MTEAMS calls.

We've been in here twice now when visiting Canterbury and it is easily becoming one of our favourite coffee shops. The menu is quite small however everything on there is done to the highest standard, including GF options which are also excellent. The cakes are delicious too.

Up there in my top 3 best places for coffee in Canterbury. Burgate do an exceptional flat white. Always consistent too.

Independent and therefore more worthwhile than any chain in town. Old building and cosy spaces with different feels, as well as an Al fresco outside-front. Lovely staff that are always engaging, kind and competent. The coffee itself is also very nice, and the loyalty card makes a sweet difference every so often. A great place to support when visiting the Cathedral. They also do some events, so keep an eye out for posters and flyers, as many of them are worthwhile. Of note is the customer loyalty card for anybody who even semi regularly visits Canterbury.

OK if you just want toasted cheese, with more cheese sandwich. Only does sandwiches, cakes and porridge.

Coffee was very impressive. Maybe one of the best I've ever had. Shame about the group of rude mums who smashed a pot tried to hide it and made the staff's life very difficult.... Service was with a smile which was nice !

Nice coffee, tasty cake. Absolutely terrible service. Inexperienced, untrained staff, they continued to take orders from new customers even with a huge backlog of unfulfilled other orders. When people came for takeaways they got their orders before customers who were sitting in. A party of mums and multiple small children waited even longer than we did as they ordered food. Great shame

A beautiful and quaint little place. Great coffee and great vegan cakes. Their orange almond cake is just too good. The host is very friendly and helpful.

Drinks were plain even though I ordered flavoured lattes they had leaked everywhere, porridge was very thick and dry had to add alot of milk to my daughters porridge to make it edible bacon was undercooked eggs were overcooked and rubbery, very expensive for the quality of this disgusting food, will never order again

Mixed feelings…. Nice coffee, delicious toastie in a convenient spot in the city however the loo was filthy! Deep ingrained dirt, filthy sink and just generally yuck! Always makes me wonder how clean the kitchen is😕 returned to my seat to see similar duty area behind the coffee machine. Best not to look too closely to not feel put off!

I've been here a few times over the past couple of weeks. The staff are always super friendly (they went above and beyond, making a coffee fresh for my friend as she was running late, which was very kind!). Food is always really tasty, and coffee is some of the best in Canterbury. Highly recommend.

Small independent business with a family feel.. the coffee is great and he cakes are divine…. Sitting on the bench outside watching the tourists wander by is a pleasure….. The sandwiches look great too even though I didn’t get one (yet)…… Gets a 10/10 from me….

Prima plek om een lekkere bak koffie te krijgen! Het eten is ook goed, niet heel bijzonder, maar wat ze maken is gewoon goed. Wel aan de prijzige kant, maar dat is gewoonlijk in de UK. Het personeel is vriendelijk en helpt je graag. Leuke tent, waar ik zo weer zou gaan zitten.

Had a lovely bacon butty here. Very nice. Very basic but nice atmosphere.

Very poor service, pot of tea came with cup and saucer, no spoon sugar or milk , asked for milk it came in cracked jug, still no spoon asked for spoon , came but no sugar. Sent milk back , asking for uncraked jug , used friends sugar. Friends coffee wasn't hot and she had particularly asked for extra hot. Second cup came the same . Staff were disinterested and made no apology. Will not visit again, if I hadn't paid in advance I would have walked out .

The coffee was okay but the tea wasn't great, not helped by the milk being in an espresso cup, so no spout to prevent spillage. The grilled sandwiches were great, with decent quality bread and fillings.

Super friendly and delicious food!

To be fair, my partner's coffee was good. Location is promising and accommodation is two tier, and quirky. My cappuccino was lukewarm, the cake tired and drying. Saw a staff member 'cleaning' a table with the palm of his hand: decided best strategy was to leave and not go back.

Twenty five minutes waiting just for a toast and jam, totally disappointing

Extremely low quality. We waited more than half and hour for a toast and jam and finally we had to cancel our order. Not recommended at all. They’re many other good choices for breakfast. Never will come back again and never will recommend to others.

Stopped here for a quick iced coffee and grabbed one of the small outdoor tables to relax with our dog in tow. Love the iced coffees we had. Friendly staff and fast service, thank you!

We had a coffee at the van outside the station this morning and needed more caffeine so came to the shop this afternoon for an excellent and creamy oat flat white.

This cafe was a great spot for a cosy coffee date. The lady serving was friendly and suggestive selling, although we didn’t purchase any cake this time. The seating areas were clear and tidy, comfortable chairs available. Coffee was good, cafe was busy with people in and out but still quiet. Really enjoyed this place

Fabulous vegan and gluten free food. I had a delicious houmous and avocado gluten free sandwich with crisps, a decaf coffee with almond milk and a vegan and gluten free orange and almond cake. All first class. The only thing that let them down was poor communication skills with no smile and a disinterest in me as a customer.

Visited Canterbury today for the first time and decided to go here because they advertised gluten free cakes They had 4 or 5 choices of gluten free cakes and all looked very tasty I opted for raspberry flapjack and it was delicious I had hot chocolate and husband had flat white coffee. Presentation was great and staff very helpful Downside was that it is a pricy cafe

Real barista coffee, weighed as it should be! fully appreciate the iced drink options, ordered an iced americano - so many places don’t do enough ice or use very bitter / burnt coffee, but this was lovely. Very good. After sitting saw they sell Curve Coffee beans which is a favourite. Was tempted by the cakes, but didn’t try them this time. Would definitely come back.

Friendly staff but the worst coffee ever tried

Cups not clean and my wife’s coffee was disgusting. Had to ask for loo paper. What could be a really nice cafe was sadly a disappointment.

Imagine the scene - chucking it down with rain, just left the peace and quiet of the Cathedral, desperate for a coffee, keen to try somewhere local not Costa. Sign on door says closes 5.30, we walk in, most tables taken, harrassed girl behind counter looks at us, rolls her eyes, looks at her watch (its 4.30), doesn't acknowledge us otherwise. We go to a clear table, find an abandoned backpack. Sign says 'More seating upstairs' - we go on up, (PAST the girl at the counter), sit down, she appears briefly at the top of the stairs, "Sorry, upstairs is closed'... We get downstairs again and wait, still ignored by harassed girl until we prefer the sheeting rain. Just down the road is the Veg Box Cafe who welcome us with big smiles and hot chocolate within 5mins. Burgate Coffee has got to hire more staff and train them in customer service. With every service establishment fighting for custom and dwindling cash in people's pockets, this kind of dilatory place doesn't deserve to stay open.

I absolutely love turmeric lattes and they are really hard to come by.. 💕 the one served here is mind blowing, tastes, looks and smells heavenly 🙏 thank you ☺️

Easy to miss door in the wall but a charming little cafe near to the cathedral. Coffee and cake for me as the kitchen was already closed after 3.

We came in for a quick lunch, they offer a range of fresh sandwiches, made to order, and soup. Coffee was delicious. Soup was delicious. Service was prompt and friendly. Price was fair. Perfect!

Amazing gluten free and vegan options. I definitely recommend popping in for a tea and gluten free cake. Absolutely perfect. One of my favorite study spots.

Had a cappuccino and a decaffeinated cortado. Very good quality and flavour. Also a nice nutty flapjack, going well with a strong coffee. I'm wondering what savoury food is available now. Obviously a caring attitude towards new mothers. Shame it's not bigger really. Will drop by again sometime.

I had a cappuccino and an orange and almond cake, that was both lovely. However, for a coffee shop that puts their wifi password on every table they didn't have functional wifi. And after asking a member of staff and telling them I couldn't get access to the internet, nothing was done about it.

Quality coffee and friendly staff. I get my coffee from the little van they have outside Canterbury West Station, whenever I go to work for a day shift. The coffee is really good, proper barista made coffee, always creamy and flavourful. Would thoroughly recommend 👌

Food was quiet nice and the building itself is beautiful grade II listed. Space is a little tight and prices a bit steep.

Very small but they can't change this. What they CAN change is students sitting there with one cup of neverending coffee doing their studies for hours at a time. I've seen restaurants collapse because of this abuse of free WiFi. You need to set a time limit on the use of a table.

£8.95 for a beef sandwich - beef was processed, bread was dry and didn’t seem fresh, way too much mustard. I’m sure the coffee is nice but wow that was a terrible sandwich.

One of my favourite indie coffee shops in Canterbury; I've always found it a reliable place for a good cup of coffee. They're making the effort with more vegan options. Only downside is they are a little pricey, but hey, they're an independent and they (probably) pay their taxes, and I like to support local!

Very disappointed, very poor coffee, had very little crema which quickly disappeared meaning the shop is using very old coffee beans. The coffee tasted like it had been sat around some time and re-heated, though I had heard their machine! The service was also exceptionally slow, surprising given the small number of people in the shop, it seemed the staff were too busy chatting to each other to serve customers. I wont be going back!
