I would just like too say a massive thank you too the beautiful barmaid Paris who served me. What a lovely, lovely girl, she made me feel so welcome and more confident. Such a lovely person, thank you so much Paris for making our evening 💗 xx

Wow where do I start!!! My parents and husband booked the Malt room back in January for my 40th Birthday Party, which took place Saturday 25th August,..... what a mistake that proved to be! We had booked a DJ and food provided by the pub. We were told three days prior to my party that a band would also be playing outside the venue for another birthday but that it wouldn't interfere with my party, a complete outright lie, the live band overtook the whole outside area which is directly next to the malt room, there is no way our DJ could play with the band playing at the same time so consequently he had to sit from 7.30 until 10pm doing absolutely nothing, this was highly embarrassing for us all! We ended up paying £250 for a DJ that managed to play for 1 hour and 20 mins, as he had to be done 11.30! A very important guest of the party us wheelchair bound, she called the venue herself to ensure that it was fully accessible for her electric wheelchair to get in and out of, she was assured it was! Again a complete lie, upon arriving she was told there was no disabled toilet in the Malt Room and that the Disabled toilet in the main bar area was out of use, disgusting! We were also told there was no ramp available to use to be able to get her into the Malt Room, she was consequently sat outside in the rain for 20 mins while we debated with the staff that they clearly informed us she'd be able to get inside. Eventually a ramp magically appeared and she was able to join my party! There were no consistent bar staff in the Malt Room, different members of staff all evening that would pop in and out now and then, almost every member of staff spoke to us all like a piece of dirt, there were people from the other party queuing up trying to get our food that we paid hundreds of pounds for, people from the other party telling our children they weren't allowed to walk through the area/tables where the band was playing! I could go on but the morale of this review is if you're looking to book a special party AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS, YOU'LL REGRET IT OTHERWISE!

Had a 40th birthday party last night in the Malt Room, what an absolute debacle. We were told 3 days ago that a live band were going to be playing in the car park, but it wouldn’t interfere with the DJ we had booked, as they often have both(live band &DJ), this was obviously a total lie. The band were 6 ft away from the doors to our venue, and it was impossible to hear both, the band were far louder than the disco, so we subsequently had to tell the DJ to not play, and we had no choice but to listen to the band. If we wanted to listen to a band we would have booked a band, but we didn’t, hence we booked a disco. When the band had a break for 20 mins we got the disco on so our guests could have a dance, then the most unbelievably annoying thing happened, a member of staff came in and told the DJ to stop as the band were about to restart!! What a bloody cheek,£250.00 and told to stop playing, I luckily never found that nugget of information until this morning. This along with no bar staff for 50% of the evening, rude staff, and an absolute lack of any kind of customer service. Avoid this place at all costs, find a venue that values your custom. And on a final note £2.75 for a small bottle of water😳

Would not recommend to hire this pub for an occasion as it seemed that managers are extremely hostile. Paid to hire the room but was originally told no one would be serving at the bar within the room and we could have to go across to the usual pub for this. Eventually after much persuasion they decided they would put a member of staff in there. We then asked if someone could do karaoke which they set up, but when asked to be put in the queue they then said our party was not allowed? Weird vibe, don’t bother

I booked the malt room for my 40th birthday party following a party my parents had there a couple of years ago for their anniversary. Their party was a huge success hence why I chose the venue. Unfortunately I was very disappointed. Firstly when we arrived we were informed that there was no member of staff to cover the bar in the venue and everyone would have to go across to the pub to purchase drinks. When I stated that this should be included in the price we paid which was £570 I was told that the bar is not included and it is at the discretionary of the manager! The venue itself was unclean with lots of cobwebs especially in the toilets. We also ran out of toilet roll quite early on in the evening. The other issue was that I paid £160 for a music operator, this was a joke as it was just a member of staff putting on a playlist then leaving to serve in the pub, twice the playlist stopped and we had to inform them in the pub, also I was informed that we would be able to request songs but they were never there for us to do that! Also we were told that we had the venue until 12pm but they came in at 11.20pm, turned the music off and told us we had to clear away. Finally the prices for drink are absolutely ridiculous, £30 for a bottle of wine, £4.30 for a J2O! We said we would go over to Tesco and buy our own drinks since they cannot supply a member of staff for the bar but they told us we cannot do that because of their licensing. DO NOT HIRE THIS VENUE - YOU WILL BE DISSAPPOINTED!!! I would avid the pub too at those prices!

I spent this bank holiday Sunday afternoon(May 2021)at this venue. It's a cracking pub with a large Garden. The prices are fair and the staff nice. There were two main problems!!! The service was terrible....we booked two tables for 10 of us. Over the four hours we were there we only managed to get four rounds....each order was taking over 45 mins. And it was the same on every table I think they lost at least 50% of possible sales due to very few staff serving drinks...and orders being lost twice on our tables....and a BBQ would have brought them in much-needed revenue. A missed opportunity by this venue to re-coop some lost revenue. The second problem was the Toilet fiasco...only one person allowed at a time and no clear signs to advise of this.... This caused a lot of confusion and annoyance with the customers...But late in the day the penny dropped and they opened the second Toilets...shame they did not do that 3 hours earlier. Let's hope they learn from the mistakes and do a better job next Bank Holiday. Well worth another visit.

Booked for lunch. Our table was covered in cigarette ash and the staff didn't explain how to order or view the menu so it was lucky I'd already seen online you can order direct off their website. Food was decent and better than expected (the pizettes are lovely) but it was overpriced for what it was. The female staff were nice but the chap we encountered seemed to be on a power trip and got quite rude. Probably wouldn't return as didn't find the cleanliness up to scratch and it seemed a bit of a shambles. I guess beggars can't be choosers currently but manners cost nothing. Probably great if you just want to drink and aren't bothered about that other stuff!

Came for the first Saturday night after lockdown. Seemed ok on arrival, told to order on an app for food or drink. Drinks took 30 minutes. Attempted to order food. The online menu did not have everything that the printed version on the table had. Finally ordered food and they then over charged me. Fair play they sorted it very quickly. Main issue for the night is the total lack of control of social distancing. Groups way more than 6 and no control over the clearly drunk groups. Did not feel comfortable at all

the best pub in Chelmsford, probably Essex, probably England. Sampled quite a bit of the menu and can vouch that it’s all excellent. The owners confirmed that pizza dough is freshly made on site (and it’s delicious!), the mezze platters are really good value for money and the Sunday roast was 👌🏼! The pub has a really nice relaxed atmosphere with a nice mixed crowd and plenty of choice for an outside table or an inside nook in an amazing building. Would visit with friends & family alike.

Why on earth would one go to the well known high street Italian chains when Rossini in Two Brewers exists? The majority of Rossini's pasta & pizza dishes are below £10 & freshly prepared to a high standard whereas the chains are exactly the opposite (& if you go mid week at lunchtime many dishes are only £6!). Add in pleasant service & peaceful surroundings & it's no wonder it is always our first choice. We can also vouch for their excellent Beef roast on Sundays. We took 2 friends to lunch on Saturday & they were genuinely amazed at the quality of the food & equally surprised that they had no idea it existed - perhaps a bit more marketing needed 2 Brewers?

Restaurant called Rossini’s which serves pasta and pizza. It is decorated with lots of plastic greenery and flowers. Looked after very well by a charming server. However the food we had although hot was very bland & lacked the flavour or seasoning you usually get with Italian food. Perhaps we just chose the wrong dishes. Didn’t have dessert but they did look delicious. We were the only two people in the restaurant for lunch. No lunch options such as panini, sandwiches or jacket potatoes. The wine was delicious. So overall a bit disappointing but wish them well.

This my first visit in some 25 years and I was wary about coming to a refurbished traditional pub with an Italian restaurant. I was very pleasantly surprised by the facelift and must congratulate the restaurant owner for challenging the overpriced and unimaginative restaurants springing up all over town (sorry, city). Lunchtime food happy hour is a novel and welcome feature and does not detract at all from the quality of the food. This was undoubtedly one of the best lunchtime snacks we have had in many a year. We wish the new owners and staff every success for the future. We shall definitely be coming back.

Last Tuesday following our book club meeting our members descended on The Two Brewers for a meal at Rossini's Restaurant. Despite the fact that there were more of us than the 10 reservation places I had booked staff very quickly & with minimum fuss rearranged tables to accommodate us This very much set the tone for the rest of the evening. Service by the two members of staff was both pleasant & faultless, my only regret being that I do not know their names. The many different food items were all served at the same time - something which many restaurants find difficult with large groups - & was to an excellent standard. So thank you for a highly enjoyable evening & in a culture where we are quick to complain I am happy to redress the balance & give the praise you & your staff deserve.

The Landlords are both welcoming and committed to ensuring you're experience runs smoothly and whilst their staff are super attentive, they do it in a way that makes you feel they're not even there. I.e. they're not intrusive and help you feel very relaxed and almost like you're privately dining. The venue is kind-of rustic and the limited covers mean you feel very special and I reckon it might be the next best and busiest restaurant in the town... I do hope so.

Well what can I say. I went to a 50th birthday tonight at the Malt Room. They had limited drinks on offer even though they advertised a drink menu. There wasn't much on offer so I went over to the main Pub to order a drink "The Two Brewers" asked for a southern comfort and coke. I was laughed at and told they didn't have any so I asked for a different drink, I was then shouted at by the OWNER who look inebriated as did other members of staff. He accused me of being drunk (which I wasn't as I only had two drinks) went on to accuse ME of being drunk and then took it upon himself to BAR me!!!! What the hell??? What ever happened to the customer always being right? I have never been so disgusted and appalled. I would say I was more so shocked to even react. I left feeling very disappointed and to be honest it ruined what could have been a very good night. I would NEVER recommend this venue. Such a shame.

I visited here with a friend last night for the first time in years. We were here at 6pm just to grab a drink and a quick bite to eat before doing a gin tasting experience at the function room next door. Having read mixed reviews I wasn't really expecting much. However, we were greeted warmly by the bar staff, and served quickly. Our lady server also recommended an appropriate mixer for our gins, and, after issuing us with menus, gave us the info we needed about dining. It was quiet in there at first but soon started to fill up. The menu isn't vast and was mainly 'pub style grub' but was more than sufficient. We both went for a chicken pizza. Again, I wasn't expecting much, but when it was served up by a very polite young man it was obvious that it was homemade, was a decent size and very tasty. He checked on us a couple of times to make sure the food was ok, and that we were ok for drinks. He was friendly, without being overbearing or intrusive.

I have reviewed the two Brewers recently, just on how welcoming and friendly it was compared to recent reviews! And as I said before the venue is under new management. we booked their function room for a party. Lee (the manager) was very accommodating throughout the preparations. He was on hand to answer any questions /requirements that we had the weeks leading up to the event. We had access to venue for the whole day from 9.30am which was great, we were able to put things up on the walls, no restrictions which you often have at venues. It looked and felt great. He arranged a great DJ called Steph, who really got the party going! We were able to have a live singer, and could have had a band if we had wanted one as they have a live music licence.During the evening we had so many people comment on what a lovely venue it is, we really do believe that it is the best in our area. Just the right size, not the size of a big hall where there is a lack of atmosphere! I know a party is what you make it but it helps if the venue has a nice feel about it.We were able to keep the party going beyond 11, if we hired a doorman, which we did, and we finally staggered home about 2am! We didn't have to tidy up as you do in a hall, we went back the next morning to collect a few things, and were able to leave our car there safely over night. All members of staff were very friendly throughout the evening, making people feel very welcome. This was one of the first events that the new management has had in the function room since taking over the pub, we did have a few hiccups prior to the event but they were all sorted out and perfect by the time our guests arrived. Thank you to the 'Two Brewers' for making our party so great!

A pleasant man named Lee welcomed us, showing us around and was very accommodating. We stopped for a drink and a chat, Lee was very nice and we were a bit confused about the reviews we had read......until Lee told us that he has only been managing the venue for 2 weeks. He has been busy painting, gardening etc and he has lots of plans for the place. Although he didn't have any food to offer we were assured that the kitchen will be up and running very soon. We will certainly be trying out his new menu! He is also in the process of making real ales available too. We returned to our old favourite to find new owners had taken the sparkle out of this once great pub. Gone is the delicious food, friendly atmosphere and specialist bbers and wines. My family and i will not be returning to this pub. The service was disgusting. They tries to charge me £16 for a wine and beer. Stay away until this place changes hands (hopefully soon)

This good pub has new owners who are frankly a complete joke. They have NO idea how to run a pub and if you visit you will just laugh at how bad it is !!!!

OMG went here for a drink as was astonished when they had no real ale or Guinness. The only beer they had was Fosters and Heineken on draught and the rest of the beers we're in cans as the owner said he didn't know what sold after being here 3 months (surprised it has lasted that long!!). To make matters worse which I didn't think was possible I asked for a can of Guinness and to my shock I was told I had to buy 2 as they were not sold on there own. I have never been to a pub in my life where I've been told that I have to but 2 drinks at a time if I not I can't have one. I give this place a couple of weeks before it's shut down as it has to be the worst pub and landlord I have ever come across. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!!

We just called in on the way home from town on Saturday afternoon for a beer and a coffee. They even put the sugar in the coffee for me, making too sweet. It now has a TV for sport in the bar area, ia pool table fruit machine and a juke box, but it real needs a spring clean as it's very dust and needs hoovering too!!, Last year, we used to spend many Saturday nights, eating and drinking in there with our friends, but we won't be rushing back I'm afraid!!

Decided to try here after a shopping trip as it has been taken over, what a shock we got when we ordered a 250ml of red wine and a bottle of Bulmers cider and received a bill for £11.40.We wont be going back until we see another under new management sign. Thank goodness for Wether spoons.

Visited with the family. Ca every veg are plentiful but have been hanging around a bit. Yorkshires were a bit scorched and the meat portions could have been more plentiful. Price is not as keen as say the Ship and the quality is not as high.

Ate here one lunch time just before Christmas. Greeting on arrival very poor from two young girls busy chatting. One girl didn't know the menu. Ordered salt beef baguette with mustard and gherkins for £6.45. I expected a baguette or at least half of one for that price but only looked like a quarter of a baguette! Salad on the plate with coleslaw which okay might be a nice touch but I've ordered a baguette and not a salad. Would have preferred baguette to at least be warm and for that price something a bit special. Someone in our group ordered a corn beef ad cucumber baguette, and again nothing at all special for that price. Feel ripped off and won't be recommending this place or a returning customer.

Came here with family for a light lunch and catch up.Was greeted at the door with big smiles and shown to a lovely table next to the fire! Service was prompt and staff were really pleasant! There was a wide variety of wine and beer. The sandwiches and other food we ordered were so fresh! And when we commented on this the waitress explained the bread is bought in fresh everyday. Definetly be returning, great for a bite to eat or even a nice drink with friends!

Great atmosphere - very relaxed. Open fires and Christmassy. Food was reasonably priced and portions were huge! Drinks are quite pricey but it's definitely worth a visit.

This pub is opposite Tesco in town. Run by youngish staff , excellent service. They do food, Sunday roast and soon, bed and breakfast . There' s an area to lounge and the punters seen decent, no nuisance at all . I was there for drinks with mates and it was tame for Saturday night. If you like somewhere romantic or quiet away from the high St buzz , this place is a good choice .

As far as I'm aware The Two Brewers is still closed for "refurbishment" and as yet has not re-opened.

Went for lunch. Food was over priced and cold. Sent back. Did not receive an apology just a very uneasy response. Ordered the burger (how hard can that be right?) Blood oozing out of it. No garnish and coleslaw came 10m later. Manager couldn't be less interested. When faced with the bill there was no goodwill gesture or apology considering i now had to return to work without lunch. Will never be retuning if this is how the new management treat their customers. Poor!

My local and always a warm welcome from the previous landlord/landlady... Nothing wrong with the welcome or the pub, very cosy and festive but what has happened to the price of drinks!? £10.50 for a wine and a bottle of lager? Sorry, that isn't going to entice anyone back.

Went on Sunday for lunch, can confirm the last post on trip advisor - it is closed at the moment. Signs in the window say it is under new management and will reopen 21 November 2014. Let's hope that they keep the Sunday carvery, best in central Chelmsford for meat eaters and vegetarians.

Can anyone tell me if this smashing welcoming pub has shut down?

Having read the good reviews, and being recommended by a friend. We visited for a Sunday Carvery. The welcome was friendly as was the overall service, the food was fine except for the roast potatoes and yorkshire puds which were over cooked and very hard. The deserts were also very good. We will probably try again one day

We were warmly greeted and our request for a quiet table met. We were shown to our table and then as is customary visited the carvery which was very good - we liked the range of veg and home made stuffing! Gammon, beef and turkey on offer. Desserts - of course! They were also very good. Then a decent cuppa. Recommended.(Much better AND friendlier than the chains... )

Went here for a bite to eat and a drink. My guest really enjoyed the Two Brewers Special Bitter and thoroughly recommends it. He had the classic burger and loved it. I had the mushroom stack, wow, a huge hit with me. Mushrooms and mozzarella in a burger, served open, with a salad and crispy, dry, chunky chips. Amazing...try it! Also enjoyed a large glass of Pinot, went superbly well with the mushroom stack. We sat out and although the outside area was not all that tempting, it was comfortable, relaxed and we really enjoyed our evening.

Sunday lunch is served on a carvery basis with a choice of 2 out of 3 roast joints. Today was beef, turkey or honey & mustard gammon. Portions were plenty and meats were cooked well with the beef slightly pink. The gammon was really tasty as were the herb & garlic roasties, delicious! The owners were welcoming and friendly and the service you could not fault. It's a shame more folk don't try these family run places for eating instead of the commercial, same old food chains you find in the every day high street. It really is worth walking that extra few minutes to eat here. I've also eaten here mid week at lunchtime and my smoked salmon & prawn salad was plentiful. The staff cannot do enough to please. One tip though if you don't want loud young children probably wise to book/visit a little later for lunch. We booked for 1.30 pm and luckily for us 20 minutes in a table left with loud, fidgety, young children. Overall, fully recommend a visit to anyone and we will be returning.

Felt very welcomed, great food for the price the plate was bulging with food. Definately wouldnt leave still feeling hungry. Decos a bit stingy and bits n peices were broken or flaking off but the value and quality of food really overides that. Definately will go again.

Friendly staff, too small for the size of hospital & the menu needs a look at. I felt visiting family at the hospital for a week, meant the menu was too much of the same type of food. Aside from this, meals were available from Marks&Spencer but there was no where to heat them up.

I've wanted to go to this pub for ages. The reason being it was Keith flints pub. I was absolutely made up that I've photos of me outside which I'll frame. I do live far away so this has made my year being a big fan. I went inside and it was not what I expected. To be honest it has some nice charm to it. A real nice country pub. Prices are reasonable and the bar staff very friendly. I would recommend and would love to go back again.
