Its a lovely place in a beautiful setting ,great atmosphere and the service is good .The food however is expensive rather overpriced and not that good ,my supposed Thai monkfish curry tasted nothing like a Thai curry normally does it tasted vinigery and very chilli hot and not very tasty .The fish pie was watery, tasteless and my friend left a lot of it .The deserts were better and well presented but at £10 a dessert they should be good .The same company own the Bridge at Mountbatten and it serves basically the same menu we have been there too and find the food better cooked .

It is undoubtedly a beautiful location and pub - I felt that food was overpriced and my [small] single salmon fishcake with a pile of chips and salad was underwhelming and pretty tasteless.

Visited Turtley Corn Mill on September 21st with 2 family members. Unfortunately although a table had been booked and confirmed 2 days before there was no record? As it was a very busy Saturday evening we were found a table in 15 minutes. We then waited a further 15 mins for our food order to be taken. The food eventually appeared at 7 40, when questioned about the long wait the waiter replied”You have not waited an hour I saw the order in the kitchen and the wait was 35mins and it is a very busy Saturday” Later the same waiter asked if the food was ok and whilst saying yes we referred to the long wait only to be given the same reply plus”1 of your party ordered fish which takes longer to cook” Very disappointed that customers are treated in such a rude way, it will be a long time before we return.

I've been going here for years, but after the last few visits where the food has been consistently not that enjoyable whilst costing a lot, I'm sadly going to look elsewhere for meals. I don't know what's happened in the last 6 months, change of chef, change of ingredients, but the quality of the food does not match the price being charged, let alone how well it is cooked (or not). Last nights meal i had the rump steak. A very dry, flavourless steak with one mushroom and 5 vine cherry tomatoes, and a handful of chips with a peppercorn sauce that was just not very flavourful. The entire meal was luke warm. And cost £30 for the pleasure :( service and surroundings were great, food not worth half the price they charge now.

Came yesterday for lunch. The food was so disappointing. The veg was undercooked, the potatoes weren’t roasted and the food was incredibly bland. Shame as we had heard good reviews, but all left completely disappointed. Overheard another table echo’ing our sentiments so it was clearly not just us who weren’t happy with the standard. The food was incredibly expensive for what it was and we wouldn’t return!

Very disappointing. We used to go regularly to this lovely venue but it has gone down in our estimation. Expensive drinks, food mediocre, basic pub grub, but high charges. The place itself is excellent in a lovely position with very helpful staff, but far too expensive now for the standard of food. So disappointing.

Very clean and well presented pub. Nice decor and lovely gardens. Staff great but probably a bit understaffed. The menu was interesting and the food was excellent but very expensive for the area. Sadly the Vegan options were almost non existent. They clearly had a talented chef so this was a big disappointment. The drinks prices were outrageous. Think central London. If the Vegan choices were improved we would have said 4/5 as although it was expensive for the area it was rather good.

We booked a table of 6 as we were meeting up from Spain after one year so obviously lots to talk about . Just before ordering our desserts at 6.25 we were told they needed our table for another booking we were a bit confused as the restaurant wasn’t busy and loads of other days empty . We expressed our concern to the waiter but he never came back to us so we left even thou we wanted more drinks and coffees. I sent an email on my return and all I got back was their policy was 2 hour table booking and we should have let them know if we needed longer but they should have let us know , they just came back with loads of excuses and not one apology, so rude and unprofessional. Shame as we liked the food even thou pricey.

The last straw ! We have visited Turtley Corn Mill for many years, initially for evening meals as well as lunches. We stopped going for evening meals several years ago following the re-vamp of the interior, which removed carpets and curtains which altered the acoustics, making conversation very difficult inside. For the past 8 years or so we have had to restrict our visits to lunchtime in the garden, which has always been excellent. On June 20th we had a lovely lunch in comfortable seats in the garden, in particular I had a very tasty steak and ale pie. We enjoyed it so much we invited friends to join us there on the 25 June and were told that the normal menu was no longer served in the garden and we were handed a very limited menu which consisted of flatbread with salad or a child’s size fish and chips. (why can they serve a child’s size but not an adult’s size?) The flat bread was too hard to cut and the child’s size fish and chips was so pathetic -even with extra chips. What a disappointment. That is our last visit to Turtely Corn Mill.

We have eaten here several times before and prior to this visit considered it a special favourite place. On this occasion to enjoy the very welcome summer weather we ate outside, choosing from the Garden Menu. First impression on reading it was that we were underwhelmed and found it difficult to find anything that appealed, very unlike our previous garden experiences. Where is the range of interesting and luxurious sandwiches, the triple-cooked chips…..? We should have heeded this warning, but sadly persevered and ordered. So wish we hadn’t bothered. The food was adequate but uninspired, the quality so-so, everything was visually unappealing, we just can’t find anything good to say. Boring and mediocre in every way, but the same above average prices which we have never before resented. We did today.

It's a real shame, this place has been our goto for a decent evening meal for quite some time. We live locally and have always enjoyed the food, service and atmosphere there. Tiny details like not being shown to the table, but rather just being pointed in the general direction, setting the stage for a disappointing meal. We have, up until now, never had a bad meal at the mill and this came as quite a shock. The service was slow, although in fairness to them, it was quite busy. The food was disappointing in the extreme. The menu appears to have become a lot more basic than our last visit. Portions have got smaller and the plating not much better than a roadside cafe. Our starter, a ham hock terrine was delicious, but tiny and accompanied by stone cold toast and no butter. The main meal for myself was a completely tasteless brisket burger served on a very worn wooden serving platter, extremely basic with a slightly limp piece of little gem lettuce, a slice of tomato and a little mound of underseasonned pulled beef. The plate was garnished with a little handful of dry, browning, mixed leaves. A very sad looking plate indeed. The chips were undercooked and hard to eat, my wifes were worse, to the point where she had to leave hers entirely. My wife's steak was cooked perfectly but was of poor quality with lots of gristle and a huge amount of untrimmed fat sat on its edge. This was accompanied by a single onion ring that was dripping with oil, also remaining uneaten. The only good part of the meal was the tomatoes. This was served with a £12 bottle of wine that cost us £36. I understand you can't expect wine at supermarket prices, but 300% markup is a bit ridiculous. Sadly we didn't stay for desert as the meal had been so poor. I do hope they up their game as it's a lovely place and the staff are friendly. But when you're spending a reasonable amount on a meal, you really expect food that's better than I can make at home and sadly, that evening, it fell very very short of that mark.

We've been before and always enjoyed our meals but this time was a real letdown. First off, we weren't too impressed by being given a table for four with the rider that if a larger party came in we would have to move. It wasn't that busy!! The food was expensive for what arrived. I had the BBQ glazed belly pork, served with fries, salad, and coleslaw. The belly pork was soggy and very fatty (extra fatty) with a dribble of BBQ sauce. The salad was a few undressed leaves straight out of a well known brand's bag. The coleslaw was served in one of those tiny paper pots that you get mayonnaise in. The fries were OK. My partner's burger was OK but the floured bun was over-floured. We won't bother again.

So, following a bad experience last time we visited we thought "everyone deserves a second chance" and tried again, as we always enjoyed your 2 restaurants. We waited at the bar to be seated and after 5 minutes went to find somebody who would direct us to our table, having booked before we visited. The person who took us to our table said that somebody would be over to take our drinks shortly. After 15 minutes we again had to catch the attention of a member of staff to ask if we could order drinks and have the menu. Our drinks order was taken and the drinks arrived 10 minutes later when we were told our food order would be taken soon. Long story short, our food order was finally taken 45 minutes after we arrived by which time our drink glasses were empty again! I won't bore you with how long we then had to wait for our food and another drink! When we finally received the starters which were at most amateur looking, it was then another 30 minutes until we received the main courses. A Thai curry that was as thin as dish water and Beef bourgignons that contained bayleaves and sprogs of herbs which needed to be picked out ...we are not just talking a couple. Anyway, we ate very little, paid and left. You haven't just lost our custom, but we shall certainly never recommend you as a good place to eat.

Poor service by inexperienced and unsupervised staff. The meal was mediocre and the price of the drinks extortionate. I have been many times in the past and always come away feeling very satisfied with both service and food which is why this was such a let down. We had a birthday party for 14 five years ago and everyone was so helpful with the arrangements and it was well done. And good value. We were hoping for the Christmas menu as advertised. They were only five of us but we could not have it for some inexplicable reason. The shared starter was very poor value and some of the food either over or under cooked. We had been at the beginning of November and whereas the food was fine we were somewhat shocked at the ridiculous price of a glass of wine. It was recommended without showing us the wine list. Perhaps we should have taken heed at that point. On the receipt it says there is a 20% discount at their other site The Bridge. I think we will give that a miss as well as this one in future. We have had some good meals at the Bridge so do not wish to spoil that experience too.

Was really disappointed and was hoping it would be much better than the sister hotel which has gone downhill massively as well. Way too pricey for a pub at the end of the day, which is what it is, no more than standard pub food but at a very high price, you can pay this in much higher standard facilities and receive so much better quality food/service. Setting is nice hence 2 stars not 1.

We use to love our roast here, we went today to celebrate our dad’s 72nd birthday, ordered starter and roast. Meat and vegetables were very tasty but the potatoes weren’t roasted and resembled a boiled potato. We mentioned this to the server and then basically got told off ny a woman who’s opening line was ‘so we didn’t like the roast potatoes’ she then proceeded to basically tell us off and say we didn’t know what a roast potato was and that she wasn’t here to argue, so shocked and saddened by this, sorry Turtley Mill we will never return, constructive criticism clearly isn't welcome

The meal was a family members birthday and having been to the mill several times before we thought it was always excellent and value for money but not anymore. The food was at best average. Infant the opinion of the group was we could have cooked equally as good food at home. The Rogan Josh curry was very poor with almost no meat and stacked full of onions. Fish of the day was nicely cooked but vegetables were poor and not seasonal as advertised. The crushed potatoe was nice. From a restaurant like this I would expect food that you couldn't cook aswell at home but alas not in this case. The deserts were the highlight of the meal and tasty. The meal was not good value for money and I feel overpriced for what it was. There are several other restaurants in the area that produce better quality for less money. I'm a very disappointed customer.

We were taken to another table - a small one - and we had to put the plant and several other things on the table on the floor to make room for our meals. The young man who took our drinks order lacked any social skills and managed to bring 4 pints of non alcoholic drinks when only one was a pint. The food when it arrived was good. At no time did anyone ask us if we were enjoying our meal or if everything was ok. It felt inhospitable and we left wondering what we had done to deserve it.

By this time we were past desserts and just wanted to go. Raising the issue with the young waitress, she proceeded to talk over me and refused to acknowledge any blame. Whilst I realise it is only pub, I would expect better trained front of house staff and at least a manager of some sorts to be on duty to deal with situations such as this. Shame the food was let down by such poor service. Management should take note.

Myself and my partner have gone to this restaurant a few times over the years as a treat as it’s expensive. We went on Sunday and the roast was very disappointing. First off the meal was cold, the amount of veg you are given for two people is pathetic, the beef was almost half fat and to top it all off its hugely over priced. The waitress seemed to think it was funny when we complained like we were joking which I assured her we weren’t. We ordered tea and coffee on separate occasions and had to ask for sugar both times. The manager came over and to be fair he was pretty good and gave us a desert for free to make up for the fatty beef so the customer service was good. Another quality establishment going downhill, seems to be par for the course these days. Won’t be back we get a better roast at the Toby Carvery for half the price.

Visited whilst having a staycation in the area. Tried to pre book but was told the restaurant was fully booked, we could have food outside on a first come first serve basis. That was fine to us so we managed to get a table outside. Ordered drinks, asked for a lemonade with a dash of blackcurrant, got a blackcurrant with a dash of lemonade. Pointed out to the waiter that I only asked for a dash and they bought out a slightly less strong version (but still strong and not a dash), however this time it was soda water. At this point I didn’t want to make a fuss so just drank the drink. I had the meat platter I think it was, had some shredded duck which was lovely, with pate that didn’t seem like homemade along with a very bland and flavourless scotch egg. For desert we had the sticky toffee pudding, which should be re-names sickly toffee pudding as it was so overly sweet and sickly. We also had the panna cotta, the panna cotta itself was lovely and really delicately flavoured, however it was very oddly accompanied by mismatched flavours. Honeycomb which was not great, overly bitter/sharp lemon curd and a really nice berry ice cream which didn’t quite go. Could have been a lovely desert if it was paired with delicate flavours. Despite being incredibly busy, the food was relatively quick out. Although it was rather disappointing.

We sat on a table near the bar and I was impressed to see staff regularly using sanitizer and there being plenty around for guests. Food was served promptly after ordering and was of high quality and delicious. To summarise all staff worked there butts off but whilst maintaining social distance from guest as they moved around, well done all.

Beautiful venue, but staff I found very rude and rather agagant no manners prices are extremely expensive for what you get, compared to other beautiful local places I've been here seval accessions before over many years being a local person and I feel has gone down hill so really disappointed

Dropped into this lovely pub en route to Cornwall. Not the first time we’ve visited. Regular visitors on this journey. In the past they’d even held a table for us when we had been stuck on the M5. Safe to say we are fans of this place, however these are ‘Covid times.’ Meal was fine. Sandwiches and chips. They were reasonably busy and the staff worked hard. Asked for a baguette and was given multigrain bread instead, but quickly rectified. It’s a lovely pub. The reason I’m mentioning these ‘Covid’ restrictions and measures in place, is because unfortunately from the minute we arrived, we were made to feel so unwelcome. Told ‘not to loiter’ in the garden if we couldn’t find a table (no intention of loitering). Invited to come back later ‘but no guarantee we can seat you.’ Just not very friendly, and actually having driven for six hours, we were more than happy to eat inside, where there were plenty of tables, which is what we did. Further restrictions on entering the building, told that my 11 old daughter could not use the toilet because somebody was ‘ahead of us in the queue’ despite there being no queue, and despite the fact I mentioned that we had driven six hours that morning - then found the toilets empty anyway. Having made us feel so unwelcome with the rather vigorously enforced rules, the staff then didn’t seem to notice a family seated inside complaining loudly that their child had a temperature. The mother went from table to table asking for Calpol within earshot of the waiting staff. Another family member was fanning the child with a menu and saying they would have to phone an ambulance if he didn’t feel better soon. They were seated at a table in a thoroughfare between two sections of the pub, so staff walked past them frequently. Nobody batted an eyelid. The whole experience felt tense and unwelcoming as a result of measures to keep everyone ‘Covid safe.’ These measures are understandable to a degree, however There doesn’t seem much point going to all this trouble if staff then don’t notice a family complaining loudly about their child Having a temperature, or if customers are prevented from using the toilets because of a non existent queue that nobody bothers to check on. The sad thing is, ‘Covid’ will be gone, but we will remember how unwelcome we felt, and how it all felt like a bit of a pointless charade really. Either enforce strict rules, or don’t bat an eyelid, but please don’t make perfectly healthy customers feel so unwelcome whilst simultaneously ignoring people with symptoms of the virus. Bizarre!

Had an excellent meal here, took a few attempts to get in as so busy due to the eat out scheme, but it was worth it! We had platter for starter and belly pork and fish cakes for main, food was excellent and service friendly.

I'll give some context here so any readers can have context to the disappointing visit. The two filled dots on Tripadvisor mean 'poor'. Food rated higher than this, but it was the unfortunate service that lowered the rating. We waited outside and rang the bell twice over the course of nearly 10 minutes before being seated. As part of the COVID measures, you wait outside. There is a QR code you can scan to see a menu which we did. Clever and helped us narrow our selections.A moment or two after we were seated we ordered drinks and food at the same time. The starters arrived within a few minutes of ordering them. Perhaps cold menu items are made up and stored in a fridge to help the kitchen be efficient. It was then 1 hour 20 mins before the main course arrived. Staff numbers were limited across the area where we were seated and given the pub is currently table service inside, didn't go do the bar. During the wait we tried to attract the attention of the staff when they came through. Eventually, one of the seniors took an order from the table next to us so we politely followed up on our order. No apology was provided, however they offered to follow up and the food arrived a few minutes later. We were told we were an anomaly and we were getting someone else's dishes now. It was mentioned they would look into the error at the end of the night, however that wasn't any good to us as we wouldn't be there. The conversation was closed down by asking us if we would like to order more drinks. We weren't really up for that as we were running out of time.Having finished our meals we wait 15 minutes for the plates to be cleared. The bill was brought and then took another 10 minutes for the card machine to arrive. The younger girl who took the payment looked really nervous when we told her about our evening after being asked 'how was everything'.We remained polite and quiet throughout. There was a table opposite us giving staff grief for taking an hour between mains and desserts. The food was well presented pub food and the set up really nice. The service was the worst we've experienced in years. We sent an email requesting a refund for the poor service which was refuted and the tone quite defensive. We responded with alternatives which would have been more balanced and made the customer feel listened to.Times are changing. Covid has made things difficult for businesses. Turtley had a great reputation and business model, however to stay ahead, providing great, friendly customer centric service safely will be really important.

If you are looking to finally go out to eat after months of being in lockdown, I would highly recommend a visit to the Turtley Corn Mill. They have put in place such a fantastic system to a very high standard, that enables you to feel safe and relaxed. The procedures and the outstanding highest standards of cleanliness they have implemented means your visit is as normal as it can be under the new guidelines. I would highly recommend a visit and the food... well... exceptional along with the very friendly and helpful staff. WELL DONE to YOU ALL x

We are regular visitors to Turtley Corn Mill (especially on a Sunday)Unfortunately our experience today did not meet with the normal standard and service of which we have become accustom to at the Mill.I took my mum to the restaurant today as she has never had the pleasure of eating there. Unfortunately our main courses arrived with the exception of my wife's.After acknowledging this the meal turned up but it looked rushed and did not taste good and I suspect was cooked after they realised there was a meal missing. To add to this the service was terrible. We were asked if we wanted desert and then had to get the waitresses attention 20 minutes later to tell her what we wanted. After waiting another 20 minutes or so I ask the waitress how long the desert would be. After disappearing into the kitchen she returned to tell us there was no caramel ice cream. This was not a problem but why were we not told this after ordering? I am so disappointed as this was my parents first visit to Turtley Mill

Had a family Sunday lunch here recently and it was the first time (we have been many times) that there were a couple of blips. the basic meal itself was good, decent size portions. There is a good variety on the menu.We booked for 12 noon (you need to book as it gets very busy), our table was not ready so that was the first blip. One of our party had roast beef (small portion) however the yorkshire pudding looked a bit sorry for itself, flat small and cold. We did receives a proper one when we mentioned this to the staff.Apart from that a good meal.

As usual my family and I enjoyed a lovely evening at the Turtley - as it was my mum's birthday we spent time giving presents and having a 'couple' drinks before we ordered our meal. The waiter gave us plenty of time to have a browse through the menu, enjoy our drinks and catch up as a family. The staff were super friendly and the food was lovely as ever! Couldn't recommend a better place for a family celebration!

We'd been led to believe this was a special place to visit for an occasion, when we visited with friends. There was a good range of local gins and beers, which were enjoyable. The food was OK, but not so special as we had hoped. The staff were mostly young and appeared quite inexperienced, but this may have been due to the impending Christmas season.

Just because this place is located off the A38, it is no reason to spend a small fortune on lunch/dinner! Turtley is v pricey, and I don’t know why - food average, traditional but tired decor & menu predictable.

As a family, we visit every year between Christmas and New year. This year was made even more special as my brother was visiting from Australia with his young family. Always a lovely atmosphere, attentive staff and great menu. Despite here being 12 of us, all our food arrived on together. My brothers children were unfortunately unwell, and the staff kindly offered to put their food in a box to take home.

Tutley Corn Mill is conveniently close to the A38 Devon Express Way, but not close enough for the sounds of traffic to reach the premises. Situated in lovely grounds with a small lake in South Devon this is an excellent restaurant. Very peacefull location with Peacocks roaming free in the garden. Good size carpark which is essential as its location is out in the countryside. Would suggest booking a table for Sunday Lunch as it seems to get very busy. The menu has a lot of locally produced products all very well priced. The service is very good and food delivered with a smile. Chose a roast Sunday Lunch of local Pork with all the trimmings really tasty. The choice of local cheeses is amazing make sure you leave enough room to enjoy them.

Had a pleasant evening at Turtley Corn Mill. It was busy for a Tuesday in September. I have been trying to avoid beef to keep my carbon footprint low but couldn't resist the beef bourguignon. It didn't disappoint -very comforting. My companion enjoyed his cod. The radishes as a starter were good, I've had better hummus. The best ice cream flavour of the 3 we tried was the rum and raisin - yum. Unfortunately it was cool and dark when we visited so we didn't get to experience the grounds or the birds.

Turtley Corn Mill is a very convenient place to stop off the A38. A very attractive Mill with nice interiors, large dining areas and a cosy settee corner to have a coffee or a drink before a meal. Also B & B if required, though have not stayed here overnight. Very large car park, so no problem with parking. The food is very good and varied with smaller portions for smaller appetites. I loved this pub. We walked from Salcombe and it was well worth it (don't worry, you can drive there too). It had the feel of a genuine pub with some good beers that happened to do great food also. I had possibly the best burger I have had in a long time and my wife had a fantastic steak sandwich. Both were freshly prepared scratch. They have vegan options too. I notice some negative reviews, mostly due to poor service. We arrived at 12 noon on a weekday in October. Even so, the place was full by the time we left, so it is clearly a popular place. The service we experienced was without fault. I hope our experience is the norm.

We stayed 3 nights, Fri Sat & Sun, very comfortable well furnished room, ensuite, with breakfast (diy) available in little kitchen down the hall. Wonderful old world inn, great bar, and bar food til 8.30 (lunchtime til 5 on Sunday, no evening meal). Very friendly and helpful staff, and wonderful location in the wilds of Dartmoor.

Great late lunch with family, biggest haddock I have ever seen. Had that locally caught ling, calamri and my wife just cheesy chips. All with crispy fresh batter, chips golden but soft inside. Even cheesy chips were top, 1/2 chips, then cheese, more chips and topping of more cheese. All top quality, even the ice cream and with nice pints of Otter, bitter & ale on tap. Great way to end off long walk on the beach. You won’t be disappointed..
