Cafe Bewleys in South Hams

Service was fantastic, staff were lovely, however the food was mediocre and in some cases not as described. Wouldn't have been too bad if it was reasonably priced but it wasn't. No veggie option in main meals either so our veggie had a choice of a veggie breakfast or a jacket potato. He opted for the breakfast which was very cheap frozen stuff coming in at a whopping £12:50 plus extra for extra hash browns as it only comes with one. The rest of the food was ok but obviously bought in cheap frozen (my pie was obviously frozen and not home made fresh as advertised - that being said it tasted nice just £15:00 fit a frozen our is excessive). Overall, at £63 for 3 lunches of cheap frozen food left us feeling ripped off.

This is a proper Kingsbridge cafe. Great little place with proper food nicely done and really tasty. Very clean and well looked after. Used to be a few places like this but this might be the only one left. I hope it stays, it's great.

Lovely friendly staff, had their home made leek & potato which was delicious. Good choice of food on the menu & they do take away too.

Had bacon, egg and hash brown bap. Great combination, cooked excatly how I'd like it. Lovely old building on the top of the hill. Bit itght for space, but that adds to the charm. My wife loved her milkshake

This is the 2nd time we have been the for lunch and each time is been great.

A truly awful service and complete inability to be nice! We have arrived to the cafe after finding out the intended cafe we wanted to visit was closed at the bottom of the street. I was alone with with three kids under 5, two of whose were trailing very heavy bikes all the way to the top of the hill without any whining or moaning. I have politely asked whether there is anywhere for the bikes to be stored whilst we ate to which the staff said ‘no’ and huffed and puffed at me for even asking. The staff then suggested that we leave the bikes outside (out of the view) as ‘Kingsbridge is safe and no one will take them’. I have again politely stated I will not be doing that as they are very good quality bikes and losing them is not affordable for us and will be very upsetting for the children. I also stated it was ok and we will go elsewhere. As I started to guide the children towards thre next place, the staff then proceeded to belittle me and telling me how rude I was for not wanting to stay and that I ‘felt entitled to and wanted to be accommodated’ etc etc etc. This is completely unacceptable and unnecessary. A simple apology stating you couldn’t accommodate us with the bikes would have been sufficient without the need to ruin my day and expose my children to such behaviour. It caused a huge scene in front of other customers. Needless to say, we will not be stopping by again.

A family of 8 we came across this cafe for lunch. We had club sandwiches which were very delicious and filling. As well as soup, breakfast rolls and panini. All very nice. Reasonable pricing. Clean. Discussed my allergies and felt confident with my choice of food. Would recommend.

A danger to anyone with a food allergy. On arrival and when ordering we made the waitress aware of that both our sons had dairy allergies. We even requested a change to the type of bread to ensure it was safe. However, they still served him butter! When we noticed and requested it was changed they put the same contaminated burger in the new roll. I raised this with them and they just didn’t care. Their processes urgently need reviewing and staff training. The customer service was also awful from start to finish. Our son was very poorly after the experience.

A lovely little cafe which serves a good sized, quality breakfast. The cafe is also dog friendly, which is a plus. The prices are cheaper than Salcombe, and the food is just as good!

A small narrow cafe but well decorated and superbly clean neat and tidy. The menu was just what was required on a miserable day. Coronation Chicken is always a fav of mine and wow it was good - so much. Also had a roast chicken sandwich and I think it contained a whole chicken !!! Awesome. The staff all very young were delightful, all smiles and happy and very efficient. A really excellent visit and can highly recommend

With two very picky eaters this lovely local cafe always delivers great service, delicious tasty fresh cooked food with a varied menu with some brilliant Specials Board too. Jenny, Maria & Geoff are always a pleasure to see along with being very helpful with nothing too much trouble either. The club sandwich was excellent, the steak burger from the specials board was outstanding, with the ham, egg & chips a big hit too. The food is always hot, freshly cooked very, very delicious, wonderfully tasty and a pleasure to enjoy. The team offer fantastic service with a smile & friendly chat a great place to stop unwind, relax & refresh being one of the best cafes in the area as that's why we keep coming back. Keep doing the magic Geoff & the amazing wonderful team many, many M, J & Mumsey, see you again very soon.

We felt the food was over priced for what was served. We had a sandwich with cheese slices, pickle and that was it for 7.25. We did say we were not happy but was ignored. Wouldn't recommend.

Great service and food at reasonable prices. The place is a little cramped (like a railway carriage), so not somewhere to relax and take your time.

Dark, rich homemade French Onion Soup was delicious. Girls were very attentive to everyone.

Rude moody staff that don’t even say hello or smile , make you feel like your being a pain going in there.

This is not a great place if you have mobility problems. While we were there a man and his wife came in. He had had an operation on both legs and was using a walking frame. He folded the frame and looked to put it to one side. He was told he couldn't because it was a trip hazard and asked to leave it outside on the busy street. Unsurprisingly they left.

Had a super lunch last week. Fish and chips were lovely, nice crispy light batter and prawn and haddock fish cake with new potatoes and salad were delicious. Very nice deserts and not stupid prices. Bewleys is a must when visiting pretty kingsbridge... lovely friendly staff too 😊

Staff were horrible. Started off by waiting 25 minutes to be served despite 4 staff standing around. Then went back in to find out that we had left one of children’s soft toys behind, one nice lady offered it back but another male staff member told her that she should have kept it and not said anything. But for the fact we were rushing home after a family bereavement words would have been said. Horrible experience. Stay away from this horrible nest of vipers.

Horrible place with rude and nasty staff. Took ages to be served and when we went back later to retrieve a soft toy left by our 5 year old, one of the staff members told the one that returned it that she should have lied about finding it and kept it. How nasty is that?! But for having to rush home due to a family bereavement, we would have had some words with the ignorant individual.

We were nicely welcomed to the cafe. We ordered full English breakfasts and the All Day Breakfast and we found it to be great value for money and very yummy. 10/10 would recommend. I also had the chocolate milkshake and it was delicious.

After a short wait to be seated, we ordered the Bacon and cheese burger and fish and chips. Really tasty. Lovely attentive staff.

My husband and I had an all day breakfast. Really nicely cooked, served with nice filter coffee and fresh orange juice. The toast came with a small jar of marmalade. Loved the fried bread! We hadn't had any for years. The place itself has the an American diner feel in the building of an old English tea room. We liked it. Staff were lovely. Toilets very clean.

Just had the most beautiful Fresh scone and a refreshing cup of tea made with real tea leaves … not dust. Great serving staff very efficient and friendly

Quaint establishment. Very narrow but they have a good one-way system to avoid collisions. Had a great brunch there. Staff were very efficient. Very popular in high season.

We think the best cafe in South Hams never mind Kingsbridge. The menu is plentiful and the food is excellent. Great service, always with a smile. Always a pleasure, can’t wait for our next visit.

We visited on the morning of 23rd September after a poor experience at Mangetout earlier that morning where we left after their waitress would not take our order for breakfast. The café is long and narrow, rather like a train carriage, but light and bright. We ordered 2 all day breakfasts, that were delicious and clearly used quality products in the breakfast. The service was friendly and quick, and the breakfasts themselves also arrived promptly and freshly cooked. Great little place, please give it a try.

We had a really delicious full English breakfast at this lovely cafe in Kingsbridge while on holiday in the area. Everything about it was great; friendly and efficient service, big choice of food, well presented and delicious. Very reasonable prices too. Highly recommend.

A regular no more, 12.30 on a Monday and Kingsbridge is as usual quiet, i pop in to Bewleys for my usual lunch and go to sit at my usual table, Bewleys is half empty and im dictated too as to where i sit "in the window" i am told but i dont want to sit in the window on display and it would make my dining experience an uncomfortable one, but apparently that dosn't matter, what does seem to matter is if they get a family come then i would "have to move" said the staff, move during eating my lunch and lets not forget it was monday Kingsbridge was quiet and Bewleys were half empty, a regular no more

This is a cute little gem of a cafe/diner. Had breakfast here when we first arrived in Devon but were too early to check into our apartment in Salcombe, liked it so much we returned for a late breakfast before leaving Devon for home. Good selection of breakfast/brunch options and some delicious cakes for afternoon tea. The staff are lovely, very polite and accommodating.

Fair priced good good with great service, we had the homemade steak pie which was great also the homemade key lime pie was to die for

Lovely cafe with an extensive menu from tea cakes to full meals. Great food. Pity it’s not open in the evenings. Loved it.

A long and narrow cafe. Four people at a table would feel very cramped. But! The welcome is friendly. The cake choice is good and the cakes very fresh and tasty. I didn’t have a hot meal but the portions looked generous.

Just called in for coffee....very good and highly recommended.

We stopped here for something to eat. My friend ordered a pulled pork (no bbq sauce) and chips. The pork can't possibly have been cooked in a sauce as it was as dry as a bone and served with burnt bits. We did complain and were off by the lady something else although the man cooking muttered, Well, you didn't have the bbq sauce. Maybe that was to try disguise what it actually was. We left with my friend eating barely any of it. We won't be returning.

I ordered a coffee with oat milk, I got one with cow's milk and unfortunately realized it too late. As I can't tolerate cow's milk products, I had severe stomach pain and nausea for the rest of the day. Nice that you offer dairy free milk but please be more careful with the order.
