Not the place it used to be. Gone dirty and the gents toilet was disgusting as it looked like it hadn't been properly and hygienically bathroom cleaned for weeks. Service was slow and staff run off their feet because there wasn't enough of them. The once glorious soughdough bread has gone and there are no tea cakes (at Easter!!!). Such a shame as I used to enjoy going here....but not anymore. For the prices you pay, it is poor value for money. The owners have run the place down and should be ashamed. It used to be great

I am not someone who enjoys writing negative reviews but today, I feel I must comment on my lunchtime experience. The sandwiches (served with chips) started from £15! My friend and I didn’t want anything too filling, so we asked if we could just have a simple sandwich and were told ‘no’. There was nothing else on the menu that was reasonably priced so we opted for a hot cross bun. We expected it to be served just with butter, but it came toasted and we hadn’t been given a choice. Two customers who won’t be going back! There are lots of people who would prefer a lighter lunch during the day and I fear that you will lose a lot of custom by not catering for us.

We went for Sunday brunch with friends. I ordered toast- thinking it would be the standard 2 slice portion- it was in fact 1 slice- not so bad except it cost £ 3.00 !! Sorry but it’s over priced !!

Welcoming staff and good service. Wasn’t expecting much as had read a few negative reviews. However we all enjoyed our meals. Overpriced for some items like a soda and lime for £3.50. Would like to return for the scones.

The place could do with a bit of a clean and TLC. It’s such a sweet building and has seen many changes of hands over the years. As for how it is now, it’s ridiculously overpriced to the point that I wonder how it’s still open. It was quiet and most were having drinks and maybe a scone. The prices are the reason why. On the lite bites menu a fish finger sandwich was £14!! A salad was £17!! This is Bawtry on a drizzly Monday not Leicester Square. We ordered two soups and shared a pot of tea which came to £20. The soups were really tasty to be fair but the pricing is crazy and the decor (footballers wives) not really to my taste but each to their own. Don’t think we will be returning.

A totally different experience than a year ago Im afraid it seemed far too expensive for 2 Cappuccinos and 2 Goats cheese salads at £39! However, it was delicious and although the goats cheese was NOT a big round chunk with rind, grilled, (like Cheese Society in Lincoln)..it was a pleasant small ‘round’ of goats cheese x 3 with a fresh fig, a delicious impressive caramelised pear slice, chopped walnuts and dressed mixed leaves. The environment was vibrant and cosy at the same time and the staff were delightful. Clean toilets and worth going. So from my 1 star just over a year ago, I now give it 4/5 and that is simply down to the price. It should be £12.95 NOT £16.95

I came with my friends after a day spent wedding dress shopping and we had a really frustrating experience. My friend has a number of allergies and since we didn't know what time we would be finished with the appointments, we chose this venue as she has 'dropped in' before and they have been able to easily accommodate her. After being greeted and seated by a lovely, young waitress we were then approached by a much ruder member of staff who was immediately defensive and started to complain that she didn't want a lawsuit on her hands as the business was privately owned and "couldn't afford it". We explained that our friend has eaten here before and the waitress said because of the commercial kitchen, they don't have the facilities to offer us ANYTHING. The menu states that everything is freshly prepared and they are happy to cater for special requirements so this really shouldn't have been an issue. We asked why the menu says this and she sharply said "we are but you didn't give us notice did you". We then explained that our friend has walked in before and been able to eat and her response was "well its the same chef and he's not said that to me". She was extremely rude and was more worried about a lawsuit than customer service. She even started talking about why McDonald's cups say "Hot" because they were sued and said "one person ruins it for the rest"....in other words she wasn't going to let us eat because she didn't want a lawsuit. We even suggested simple dishes that our friend could eat (jacket potato, chicken salad, pasta) and again, she blamed the commercial kitchen and said "we can't guarantee they'll be no cross-contamination"....so if you have allergies don't eat here! What she didn't know, is that we have worked in the industry for a number of years and we know exactly how commercial kitchens work. This should not have been a problem. She also kept mentioning that they had a private party for 43 people that the chefs had to prioritise. Our custom was obviously not as important. She even shrugged and said "well I close in 20 minutes anyway". If this were the case why were we seated and given menus in the first place? After this awful experience, we had to ask for the bill which she slapped on our table. Now, had this happened where we work, we would have at least offered the coffees as complimentary (as we only ordered them because we thought we would be eating). Not the point but it would have been a nice gesture after such a bad experience. Unfortunately we didn't get the name of the waitress who was rude, unhelpful and extremely unprofessional. We all stayed very calm and were simply asking why nothing could be offered when theres plenty of simple dishes our friend could eat (the younger, nicer waitress actually offered us scones, so this waitress was just being unreasonable) but this waitress spoke to us quite aggressively to the point where other tables were looking. You don't expect to be treated this way because one of your party has allergies. Appalling service. Will not be back. Would not recommend. Avoid if you have allergies.

Visited with friends following an outing of wedding dress shopping; arrived to be seated by a friendly waitress. The interior and decor is lovely & very unique. We ordered hot drinks to start with and perused the menu. My friend (the bride) has several allergies and has visited before with no issues, which is why we decided to visit again- only to be told they could not offer her anything due to her allergens. It states on the menu: “All our dishes are freshly prepared and we are happy to cater to special requirements.” Wrong. This is certainly a case of Misrepresentation. When we spoke with the ‘manager’ or supervisor, she simply said that as a commercial kitchen contamination was a high probability and they simply couldn’t risk the possible lawsuit. Also- The chef was too busy preparing for a table of 43 that were due in the evening. Shocked and aware of how this could negatively impact my friend, I pushed further even offering suggestions of dishes that my friend could eat; a simple pasta or a chicken salad?? No. The inflexibility and lack of customer service was astounding. Very disappointing and certainly put a dampener on what should’ve been a happy occasion. I wonder what the owners would think to losing what could’ve been a bill of £100+?! 🤯 especially in today’s financial climate; something the supervisor made us more than aware of! The only reason this is a 2 star review and not 1 is that the coffee was good and the younger staff member was lovely. In any case, I won’t be back.

We visited the restaurant on Saturday having booked a table on line as we are not from the area. Don’t think we’ll be going again. I ordered the chicken hanging skewers with chilli, honey and lime. No mention of coriander. Yet… coriander seemed to be in everything. Very overpowering and I hate it. Would certainly not have ordered that if the menu had been accurate. The rice was cold and the flatbread seemed as it had been taken out of the freezer and barely thawed. Not all staff were wearing masks or even face shields and I noticed one waiter taking glasses to another table with his fingers inside the glasses.

Before Lockdown have supported this venue, inside & outside, day & evening. I have found the outside service to be disappointing. After Lockdown, I visited on Saturday afternoon , 25 July & sat outside for drinks. Yes the service was very slow but I can accept this under current circumstances. What I can’t accept is the lack of sanitising tables after each table was vacated. Also a table that had been reserved was not labelled as such to avoid 2 separate parties attending the same table. This is intended as a well meaning constructive criticism & not a damnation. I want to support my local businesses but they need to be aware they are falling short. We are all in a learning curve at the moment but, if nobody makes these businesses aware, they will never improve. Will definitely visit again but home to see some improvements.

Anyone local to Bawtry will know that the Town House has been through many changes over the last few years and we'd stopped using it, until last Friday when I went with the girls for Fizz Friday night and I was really impressed!! All our food was lovely (recommend the herb crusted cod if you like your fish!) but it was the staff who really made the evening! Our waiter Mahesh deserves a medal for the professional way he dealt with us - with our many questions, changes to orders, request for one pudding and 4 spoons!! (even providing a sample of the wine so I could decide which one I liked) Good service and good food (& really good value if you do Fizz Friday and drink a lot of Prosecco!) - if you're in the village and hungry - give them a go!

I'll start with the positives- The girls who served us were lovely. The main meal I had of fish and chips ok but nothing special. The coffee is nice. The ambience although a very busy day outside was pleasant and they had a live singer who was really good. My daughters meal not as good. She ordered chicken ceasar salad. It was just not worth the money I'm afraid and she said the chicken didn't taste fresh. We complained about the chicken and one of the girls apologised. The drinks half pint of coke are £2.50 each. We had 2 desserts £6.00 each. The banoffee pie was poor. No runny caramel just a wedge of what I would say was sugar with cheap squirty cream and a few banana pieces. It was that sickly and sugary I couldn't eat the base. The menu needs changing and also needs to be value for money. I'm afraid I wont be returning which is a shame as I visited previously at the start of the year and it was a lot better then.

The service was very friendly and as there were lots of free tables, we didn’t have to wait long. We both had fish finger sandwiches which were fine although the curly chips were only just warm. We also had a glass of wine each. The shock came when we received our bill which amounted to £34 !!!! I’ve eaten for less in some London restaurants !! We were also very disappointed that the menu was set, whereas before it had soup of the day and lovely homemade quiche to choose from. Needless to say we won’t be dining there again.

We were sat at our table in the restaurant to have what was meant to be a nice dinner and couldn’t even hear ourselves speak. To top it all a group of very drunk youths were then seated at the table beside us drinking cocktails and eating a bowl of chips between the 4 of them !! What kind of a restaurant is this ? The food was worse than poor and the staff were all untidy and disinterested it seems that the owner has more money than sense ! The restaurant looks fantastic but there is clearly no chef in the kitchen who can cook. Maybe they should concentrate more on the staff and the food than the decor! Definitely will not be returning

We enjoyed a couple of latte's each and was pleasantly pleased with the whole experience. Not the cheapest place for lunch but still we both agreed that we would eat there again.

Business breakfast and although there are certainly cheaper places to eat in Bawtry and possibly better service to be had (although this time service was fine here without being over the top excellent) the breakfast is very good!

Attended the town house to meet with old friends for lunch on a Saturday and it was busy but not busy enough to let service standards slip for the amount of staff working.

Visited The Town House on a quiet Saturday night for dinner. This place is completely lacking in direction. Why bother opening for dinner if you give people a lunch menu, it doesn’t take much effort to produce a dinner one if your food is fresh and locally sourced as is advertised. Staff inexperienced - no table checks, no offer of a refill drinks, no management. A g&t; was served with no garnish and with the whole bottle of tonic poured in.

Stopped here for lunch yesterday on our drive back to Scotland. First thing "greeted" by a woman saying I'll be with you in two minutes as she was preparing a bill. Eventually got seated. Waiter took our drinks and food order. Drinks came but no sign of food for ages. Meanwhile two separate waitresses came to our table. First one said are you ready to order. Second one said can I get you anything else. Aye our fish and chips!! Totally underwhelmed when we finally got our food. Wish we had gone somewhere else.

On our way home to Yorkshire, we made a quick trip to MISSON, stopping in Bawtry for lunch, and ordered Eggs Benedict, one of my husbands' favourites. They were delicious, and my husband said they were the best he has ever had in this country in the past 33 years since leaving the USA. Kudos to the Chef.

Visited for lunch today at 1:45pm, restaurant half full, sat outside. Service for food extremely slow, one meal over-cooked and extremely spicy. Paying the bill - staff did not know what to do, suspect I paid twice, I have to call tomorrow to check. An apology for the delay to the food was grudgingly given after two requests to check on the food. My second experience where the food has been extremely slow. 45 minutes for a steak sandwich and two lots of poached eggs on toast is too slow.

We booked this in advanced for 13 of us in the evening. We arrived on time and was encouraged to have drinks first which was all well. After we had all got our drinks the menu was supplied and it was the Lunchtime menu? Not much on it for dinner. We then asked for the dinner menu and what came back was a scribbled note stating that they only had 1 fillet steak and 3 fish!!!

A lovely lunch at the Town House. Lots of menu choice. We opted for Eggs Florentine and a Fish Finger gourmet sandwich. Huge portions and very tasty. Cute French bulldog puppy was up for cuddles too.

Awful frozen food that is over prices and doesn’t come as stated on the menu which is ran by kids who can’t be bothered

Great food and service. Popped in with my girlfriend and our new puppy and ordered a bite to eat and a few drinks. The waitress was very polite and even brought the puppy a drink. The food was brilliant just a couple gourmet sandwiches but so tasty overall I will look forward to returning.

I took my friend for her birthday for afternoon tea, the food was great and we had plenty. However, the service wasn’t great. The waitresses looked run very busy constantly running around but the restaurant wasn’t full. I had to ask for the bill 3 times off 3 different people.

Meet up with friends in Bawtry, lovely place to meet, very cozy. The food was good, if a little on the expensive side for lunch. Coffee was excellent, service could have been better, it took us quite a while to get our second coffee’s. Still a great little dinner though.

Early evening booking table of 4, only another 3 tables in the restaurant but starter took nearly an hour, only had 3 of the 4 main dishes to offer us. however once food arrived it was a great meal and manager apologised for everything that went wrong or were missing so we would return but hoping they get there reordering right for next time!

We went to the Town House and we were told by the manager on arrival that there was a new chef who had only started 4 days previous. We decided to stay although we were disappointed at the start to hear there was a new chef. The starters we had were cray fish salad and this was brilliant, then for main one had sea bass with mixed veg and the other had breast of duck. Both of these dishes were exquisite. We are delighted and will certainly go again!

Had a wonderful meal today for our lunch. All freshly made and great value for money. All the staff were lovely and welcoming and attentive to our needs, especially the young lady who was front of house. Would highly recommend the town house .

Visited today for Sunday Lunch after hearing good reviews. We were greeted by a young lady who seemed friendly enough but who seemed to take a long time in deciding whether we could have one of the SEVERAL tables that were empty . Once seated we were given menus (that had to be searched for) and left to have a browse. It took ages for our drinks order to be taken and twice as long for drinks to arrive. My partner made a comment about the Gobhi dessert but it went straight over the waitresses head like a soaring swallow. Food order taken another long wait, luckily we were in no rush. Starters were nice but mine was lukewarm and partners soup red hot. Roast beef and trimmings eventually arrive which was ok apart from my incredibly fatty beef. Waitress came to collect plates did the usual “everything ok with your meal” routine, so we advised her about beef. No apologies just a “ will let chef know” . We were both really looking forward to trying the Sunday lunch here but left feeling really disappointed. Slow service and only average food. Certainly won’t be in a hurry to rush back.

My family and I had afternoon tea here to celebrate Mother's day. The food was great quality, particularly the cakes and scones. Perhaps not enough sandwiches to cake ratio but we still enjoyed it and couldn't finish it all. The staff were attentive, especially considering how busy it was, particularly who I think was the manager in a suit (?). The waitresses took longer to respond but were still ok. The building itself was lovely, we liked the décor. The toilets were lovely and clean but had run out of paper towels (just a point to improve on!) We will be sure to return though :)

This is a traditional building and the staff are very welcoming. The ambiance is suitable and fits in with the market town. The food is good, perhaps a little expensive but well presented and tasty.

After a disappointing experience in cold weather on last visit , when we found the restaurant cold and uncomfortable, we are pleased to announce we returned today, for a different experience. The place was warm and welcoming, we had a lovely afternoon tea (couldn't eat it all) , Both the food and the service were perfect, restored our faith and would now definitely recommend, thankyou

Called here for a late breakfast / brunch, after my wife recommended it from a previous trip. Went for the kippers and my wife went for the eggs and salmon. Kippers tasted ok, and the poached eggs that came with it were nicely cooked. My wife’s food, the salmon was a bit grisly and the tomato a bit under cooked, but generally not too bad. Cost approx £30 for both of us, but then it is bawtry. All in all quite expensive for what it was. 0.5W

Popped in for lunch today. Our first visit. Menu looked promising and we ordered sandwiches and a portion of chips to share. Two coffees unexpectedly became large coffees when delivered to the table. Menu said sandwiches came in either Ciabatta or a wrap (whole meal I think) so I confirmed both were to be served in ciabatta when ordering. One - the club sandwich - came in toasted sliced bread. The taste was fine, just not what was ordered. Hubby had the steak sandwich which came in a brioche sub?! Not being a fan of brioche myself I’m glad I didn’t order that one. At no point were we asked if these substitutions were acceptable. This point was made when the waitress came over later, but no feedback or apology was provided. We finished our drinks and left £38 poorer. Bit expensive for two sandwiches, one bowl of fries, three coffees and a coke. Service was passable but not particularly friendly. Won’t rush back.

I visited on Sunday with my husband, son and friends this weekend after following The Townhouse on Instagram and seeing lots of photos of lovely food and thought it was worth a try. The waiter was very attentive (possibly a little too much) but we all ordered Sunday lunches. My husband and I ordered a bottle of water each and intended on sharing our lunch with our one year old. The plate consisted of mash, two thin slices of beef, one carrot, parsnips, green beans, gravy and a Yorkshire pudding. The meat was cooked to pink perfection and the veg and gravy was very tasty. The Yorkshire pudding seemed to be a frozen one which was disappointing given the quality of the rest of the food and I wouldn't say it was piping hot. The issue here was the size of the portions - we were still hungry after eating lunches which for £33 for two mains and two bottles of water is somewhat disappointing. Nice friendly staff and a lovely location but a little on the pricey side for what you actually get.

Wow the food here is AMAZING. I have visited Kaynas many times with both friends and family and cannot speak highly enough. The staff are friendly and helpful in every way. The food is delicious and its the best flat white I have ever had. One if my favourite go to places, a jewel of a find.

Helpful staff, pleasant surroundings but food very poor. In particular the Risotto with wild mushrooms and spinach. It was tasteless and no attempt made to present it well or garnish it. Just a heap of soggy rice. Embarrassing as friend was paying. Pie and chips reasonable. Lion of pork very tough stuffing. Talked up big but better food in market cafe at half the price

Sadly this branch has lost its battle with house flies. AST least they had put netting over the pastries counter but they were too numerous for us to enjoy the experience.

Having had a great experience last year on Xmas day we paid deposits for this year, due to family circumstances we had to cancel with the full understanding that the deposit was non refundable. Eden Arms got in touch with us and said , come and have something to eat and we will use your deposit as credit ! That alone was great service. My wife and i went on Sunday for the Sunday lunch , and it was really good. The service was excellent , the staff were very polite without being over the top , the food was lovely , we were really impressed. Well done to everyone there , we will be back ! Gary n Sue.
