The Town Hall in Calderdale

I have been visiting every few weeks or so for last several years. Generaly well satisfied, partcularly when the extremely cheery young man has been on duty, (is he still with you ?) However, to day I was served by a somewhat, shall we diplomaticaly say, unwelcoming lady. Note that a smile costs nothing, and might even encourage the leaving of a tip. I will give it one more go, and if no change, then will be trying elsewhere, no shortages of alternatives. Having walked some distance to get to HB, then my appearance was maybe not quite to the mark, who knows.

Turned up for an impromptu lunch last week and was really pleasantly surprised at the lovely food and the wonderful friendly staff that served it. Between us we had the meze platter and baked potato, simple fare but really nice and tasty. We will definitely be back next time we visit Hebden Bridge.

A nice community space and cafe adjacent to the river. A good place to have an unrushed coffee and tasty soup lunch with locally made bread. As a former hospitality manager, I’d just like to compliment the service as well! Two particular stand outs are Aaron and Natalie, lovely young people with a charm and friendliness you just can’t teach! I always feel put in a good mood after being served by them, and often see them taking the time to chat with older regular customers who clearly appreciate it. Feels like a very important thing to cultivate in a good community space. I’d never poach staff on principle, but sometimes it’s tempting! Another thing to note is the frequent events and exhibitions that take place in the cafe and town hall itself. There’s usually something to check out, so it’s worth a regular visit!

Lovely spot by the river, staff were lovely ,but food was disappointing filling was nice but baps were. Cheap variety, tasteless and coffee was bland disappointing

Called in the town hall cafe for a bite to eat. Wow the food is exceptional, the staff are warm and friendly. This place is a must for anyone visiting.

My husband and I visited the cafe today as we were in Hebden Bridge for the Open Studios event. Being vegans we are used to finding nothing to eat in a lot of places but this lovely cafe had plenty of options, including yummy cake! The cafe is spacious, clean and inviting, with an outdoor seating area. The staff are helpful and pleasant. Definitely a recommendation from me!

Normally I enjoy my lunch at this cafe so it was disappointing to have a meal that didn't hit the mark for me. The fish finger in a sourdough sandwich' had a pleasant lemon mayo but the fish was very grey and the bread, if sourdough as on the menu, was soft and unlike sourdough. Not a pleasure to eat.

Visited to see the photography exhibition, great experience and very well managed, will return next time we visit Hebden Bridge, well worth a visit and a great l;ocal attraction.

What a hidden gem. nice cafe , self service but decent choice and wonderful to sit out on the terrace with splendid views on a warm, sunny day. Very clean.

An accessible building with local art inside and outdoor space near the river. The cafe has a good range of food and snacks but it isn't great. The savoury range was pretty boring and the cake was heavy and possibly a bit stale. Coffee was fine though and the staff are very nice.

Lovely outdoor setting next to the river, friendly staff.. BUT the coffe was missing the vital ingredient of coffee and our baguette sandwiches were rather tasteless and uninspiring, she really!

The town hall cafe is great for anyone with mobility issues. There is a side ramp or a lift to get to the cafe area with pleasant outdoor seating next to the river. The food is pretty mediocre which is a shame, it has changed hands a few times but the standard of food has never really improved. But a nice place to sit in the sun.

Often pop in here for a brew and a cake - staff are always super helpful and the food is great - the whole refurb of the Town Hall really works and the café is a great heart to the building!

Visited on Sunday during the steampunk festival, it was really busy but the service was very very good. Food came with only a brief wait and it was tasty and nutritious. The staff were charming and polite. Love this place and we visit often when in HB. It’s a real model of a genuine community run social enterprise. And, the Ford is good value and really tasty.

Had a toasted teacake and pot of tea sitting outside in the Courtyard overlooking the river and bridge on a nice sunny day. Friendly staff, quick service and a choice of menu.

Cared for building and there always seems to be a lot going on for the community. Worth checking out over the bridge even if just for the views and to rest your feet over a coffee and snack at their little cafe. Though no doubt you'd find something interesting to do/see whilst there.

Have just visited Hebden Bridge and had lunch at this cafe. My wife and I both had sandwiches and shared a delicious piece of cake. As it was a lovely day we sat outside by the river. We were served by a charming waitress who told us she worked in a nearby bookshop at the weekend. Always very useful to have such good staff.

My mum and I visited Hebden Bridge and were looking for a café for a quick bite to eat. We had parked near the town hall and we saw a sign saying they had a café, so we went to see their menu. I am so glad we did. I had a goats cheese and homemade marmalade sandwich and my mum had the bacon and brie; both on brown. The sanwiches were served with a decent sized side salad which was fresh and crispy - they had balsamic vinegar on the table so I could help myself. The sandwiches themselves were stuffed with fillings. We both had filter coffee too. Altogether it came to about £11, which was a bargain for the quality and quantity of food. There was no loud and invasive coffee machine which was fabulous - I am so sick of having any conversation drowned out by these machines - even if they do produce a nice cup of coffee - they are so unrelaxing. The café is laid out perfectly, with tables overlooking a big terrace which overlooks the river. The bright sunshine was wonderful, but the decoration and furniture would have been splendid even on a grey day. All the furniture was new and extremely comfortable. The toilet facilities were clean and tidy and accessible! Art work lined the walls which is always pleasant, especially if it is changed over regularly - which I hope it is. The counter was fronted by a very friendly and efficient chap and obviously the kitchen staff were great! The place was spotless too. The majority of people there were older but a few younger heads were also bent over laptops and tablets making the most of the free wifi. The menu was limited but I feel that is better when it means you get fresh food and I would definitely return to try other items from it - especially the soup and the chilli. There are quite a lot of eateries in HB, and I have tried a lot of them, but I will be returning to the town hall again next time; in fact I would go to HB just to go to that café again! I might even treat myself to a slice of one of the amazing cakes that they had available - I don't know how I resisted last time apart from that I was full from the generous portion of the sandwich and salad. I would highly recommend the café if you are wanting an interesting and personalised eating experience and a relaxing atmosphere.

We always head for town hall cafe when we visit Hebden b4idge. Friendly staff, excellent food and best cup of tea. Love it!

Really nice atmosphere. Great selection of homemade cakes and large portions! Not tried the savoury food but it smells delicious and looks really good. Great that they use local produce and providers.

I was looking for somewhere to do a little quiet reading. Perfect place! Free WiFi but unfortunately no plugs for my device. The carrot cake was delicious and enormous. Staff were friendly and cheery too.

My daughter, grandson and I were attracted to the cafe for brunch because we noticed there was a beautiful terrace to sit on overlooking the river. The great location turned out to be matched by the food and service - great place!

This is probably the cafe we visit most in Hebden which is saying something!! Excellent home made cakes and jacket potatoes that are superb. Staff are friendly, the coffee is filter only but still good plus they're dog friendly. Only thing of complaint is that they've stopped selling they're excellent cheesecakes but my trouser waistline appreciates this!!

dog friendly cafe was very welcome with very reasonable priced food, Inside was cool for dog but has a large outdoor patio which is a suntrap should you wish to sit out

We were hoping for a nice fresh coffee. Disappointed as they only have filter coffee and that was a bit stewed. If they sort out their coffee then I would probably give them five stars as it’s a very pleasant building.

We had an excellent light lunch in very comfortable surroundings, very pleasant service and although they were very busy. It was a treat to sit on the river view balcony in the sunshine.

Great little cafe tucked away in the town hall.Light and airy ,a really nice place to relax and enjoy a coffee and cake.Staff are really friendly too. Plenty on offer in the menu which I haven't sampled yet but what I can really recommend is a piece of their flapjack.Delicious , the best! My bubble usually goes for a chocolate brownie(?)which he really enjoys. Took some friends there and they enjoyed it as well.

We call into the cafe before our lessons. Good coffee & not expensive. Nice set up & very clean & tidy.

Having been a business tenant in the Town Hall for a number of years, i've seen the cafe operation grow. I'm seriously impressed with the new vegan offering over the last couple of months, it's moved from a hummus sandwich, jacket potato and soup (still yummy) to pulled jackfruit, cakes, chilli, pizza, soup and more!

Just eaten a bowl of delicious roasted sweet potato soup served with a doorstep of granary bread. Fantastic value at £3.50. Relaxed and cheery atmosphere in the cafe and excellent service - very prompt service by friendly staff.

A great community space with a busy café. They make all their cakes on the premises. Every cake I've tried has been absolutely delicious! I tried a piece of the gluten free Chocolate Brownie this morning and it was scrumptious - fudgey and very satisfying :-)

Stumbled on the cafe during a visit to Hebden Bridge. Excellent good value coffee, had two cups. The food looked good ,will call on next visit

We sat on the terrace and were entertained by some very talented youngsters from the local area. Beautiful atmosphere good food, and excellent Fairtrade coffee made by very pleasant staff. What a delightful 30 minutes. Will visit again definitely.

popped in to town hall cafe for coffee and a slice of cake today was well impressed with the selection of cakes from gluten free and vegan cakes . my favourite is the chocolate cheesecake highly recommended. also got some amazing freshly made soups on offer! and friendly helpful staff.

Lovely spacious, clean, quiet cafe located in the town hall with a large sun terrace. I visited mid afternoon on a late September Tuesday. The menu looked interesting with sandwiches and salads but I settled for good old tea and cake. A big mug of decent tea and an experimental slice of courgette and lime cake (it tasted great), served by a polite and friendly lad behind the counter, it all cost me less than four pounds!

What a lovely place to stop for a sandwich and coffee! Clean, bright, spacious, great food, great staff, great value! My son surprised me by asking for his sandwich on brown bread ( it's all made to order) but changed his mind when it was brought to us... no problem... straight away we hear the words " would you like me to make you one with white bread? " and within moments there it was! Excellent, fast but friendly service and good, filling food (I had Brie with onion chutney) which was really good but I couldn't finish it! We will definitely be back!

Excellent refurbished ex-council buildings now developing as a business/community hub. The cafe is excellent with a great outdoor terrace adjacent to the river serving the cheapest coffee in town..

Popped in for a late lunch. Lovely fresh food and cheap prices. Staff are lovely and good choice of hot or cold, meat or vegetarian. Definitely a good place to go for a cheap snack or lunch.

I go to events regularly at the Town Hall. It is an excellent venue for Arts festival events as well as been a good resource for people wanting to hire a large room. It has a bright and welcoming cafe, although it needs a decent coffee machine. There are facilities there for local small businesses needing office space. There is usually an art exhibition on display. Volunteers run the reception desk.

Delicious lunch here today of Houmous, warm pittas, salad and so many olives I couldn't finish them....and I love olives! Add in a drink for the princely sum of just over a fiver, it's great value for money too. And so light and spacious with lovely staff. Winner.

I have been several times this month and can't stress how important and useful the Town Hall is. Excellent meeting rooms with refreshments supplied if you need them, a very good cafe open until mid afternoon, and always hosting interesting exhibitions and installations. Wifi all around the building and a very nice outlook over the river.

We never thought we would get such good food in what I believe is a council building.Great soup, very enjoyable tortillas, in clean and very pleasant surroundings. At the end a bill which won't break the bank. A very satisfying visit for lunch.

Nice bright building with toilets available. Plenty of car parks near by. Well kept clean town hall.

Quite laid-back, good seating, the customary array of cafe fuel, dietary conditions are well catered for. Friendly service. A good place to stop for a while.

There are lots of dishes to choose from . You can have meat or vegetarian .The cakes are exellent .Coffee or coffee which at 1 pound was outstanding. It does close at 3pm though which is early.If its warm outside there is an outside terrace to try.

Excellent cakes, tea for a pound, good and very reasonable lunches, friendly staff, pleasant setting especially if the weather is good and you can enjoy the sun on the terrace. Highly recommended.

The food in the Town Hall cafe is really good. There's an excellent variety of meat and veggie dishes. The chickpea/spinach/paneer curry is delicious and, unfortunately, so is the lemon drizzle cake!!

Fresh coffee and tea for£1, very dog and child friendly, lovely cheap eats, veggie and vegan food in a town hall!! It could only be hebden bridge, wish all town halls could be as accommodating, friendly and inclusive !!

An accessible venue for conferences and meetings in the heart of Hebden Bridge. The facilities and 'can do' attitude of the Town Hall Team ensured our conference delegates were well fed and provided for throughout 5 days of conference events. After hours our delegates were able to enjoy all that Hebden Bridge has to offer; stunning landscape, pubs, bars, restaurants and public transport connections to surrounding areas. It was a pleasure to be able to deliver successful conference events while sharing a beautiful part of our country with our international and UK delegates.

The town of Hebden Bridge is a delight and the Town Hall is no less. Located by a lovely little stream, the place provides a great ambiance for team meetings and light conversations alike.

I visited the town hall for the OSHCamp 2016. I had two pleasant meals and loads of cups of tea. Good value, pleasant staff and a nice atmosphere with a sunny outdoor terrace.

The cafe is friendly and reasonably priced. It has a nice atmosphere and it's great to be able to sit outside by the river on a nice day.

A great place to meet and eat with children. The baguettes, soup, salads and pizza were all lovely and very good value. Not forgetting the cake, and cups of tea or coffee for £1! Will be visiting again!

Great salad eaten beside the river.Relaxed atmosphere and good service. Food not cheap but quality makes it good value for money when matched against more traditional cafes. Would recommend for a pleasant and adult lunch where you can talk and enjoy the food.

Has a large riverside terrace that gets loads of sun. Great if you have toddlers as theres lots of space and changing facilities. It does shut quite early i think around 4pm but even earlier sometimes if its empty.

A lovely place to go for breakfast or lunch in Hebden Bridge. Great value. Staff are all friendly and predominantly happy most of the time.There is a nice open space to sit outside by the river in the Summer which gets the morning and afternoon sun (when the sun deigns to visit the Calder Valley and Hebden Bridge that is !!)

Super choice of mixed salads. All prepared freshly once ordered. It was huge and delicious! Good value. A cup of tea is cheap too, and there is a good selection of tasty cakes. Well done!

Hebden Bridge Town Hall is a great meeting place for the whole community. The staff are friendly and the cafe offers great food at very reasonable prices. Great for a quick business meeting or lunch with friends.

Anywhere in the main square was out of the question because of the amplified buskers. This was a peaceful spot where we could still sit in the sunshine and have a nice light meal (coffee, filled ciabatta and a cake). Worth seeking out

Lovely filter coffee at a very reasonBle price and a cracking bacon sandwich . Cheerful , efficient service . A light airy place to eat and drink with free wifi and an outside seating area for better weather . Very clean toilets too .

A popular café with nice outdoor seating in a sheltered courtyard setting. Very reasonably free trade coffee. Food not so exciting but ok.

Always call for a very good cup of coffee in the Town Hall when visiting Hebden. A large mug of filter coffee for a pound. Exceptional value.

Hidden away but a great venue, loved the outside area as it had a great view. Their seemed a good range of options available and plenty of room to relax

Called in today for elevenses. Two coffees, a coke, giant cookie, cheesecake and winter berry flapjack. Excellent food, service and good value for money. Would recommend.

Good value café set in the town hall. Reasonable range and fairly varied. Nice out side seating on a good weather day. Does a great Fair trade coffee. Often other exhibitions on display in connection with town hall. Lots of local events info available

The Town hall in Hebden Bridge is a lovely place to visit. There are usually pictures on display which are of great interest every time. The café has a lovely outdoor seating area overlooking the river.

We visited the lovely village on Easter Monday -and it was VERY busy. Possibly due to a Duck Race in the river. However, food was considered the main priority and we settled on the Town Hall Cafe, as everywhere was heaving. The cafe opens out onto a sun terrace which was pleasant.The menu was a bit limited, but generous portions of fresh salad served by lovely obliging staff in Pirate Hats (don't ask...) were very good.I asked for some salt and was told to go to the BBQ as they only had one salt cellar!All in all it was a great lunch, pleasant, tasty and good value.

Vg cakes and hot chocolate here. Plus a range of breakfasts and light lunches. The soup can be a bit watery, but other things are tasty and it's a really lovely atmosphere to meet people in. And it's extremely good value - the only place in Hebden Bridge where you get a large pot of tea for £1.

Attended a wedding here at the weekend. Lovely location with lovely views of the river. Setting is very modern, airy and light. The café looked lovely and the prices (with the exception of the alcohol!) seemed reasonable. Beer a little pricey and only available in bottles. Made an excellent location for the wedding ceremony.

We called in at the Town Hall Cafe for an afternoon cuppa and piece of cake. As it was a sunny afternoon we chose to sit outside. Not only did we enjoy the cuppa, which was reasonably priced, but the cake was very good, too. My hubby had the chocolate brownie (£2.20) while I had the lemon drizzle (£1.20) which although delicious was rather a mean 1cm wide slice...I suppose it was better for the waistline!While there we saw a wonderful sand sculpture in commemoration of the centenary of World War 1.

We fell upon this café by chance - it's in the newly refurbished town hall and is very modern with delicious home made hot and cold snacks and cakes. We sat outdoors at a table overlooking the river and it was delightful. We only had tea and cakes ( homemade Victoria sponge and carrot cake) for just £6.50. Hebden Bridge is a lovely quirky town with hippy type shops to browse around plus the canal and river walks.
