The Tivoli in Cheltenham

Has the pub changed hands? It used to have delicious food value for money. This evening the starter and main were iffy and the toffee pudding nothing like described and inedible. Meal and drinks definitely over priced. Never mind terrible pudding. Cocacola added to bill by so-called by mistake (?) Giv this pub a miss.

Best beef sandwich I've ever had...truly delicious and yummy fries for less than a tenner. Highly recommend and great with dog as well!!!

Excellent visit with tasty food, fast service, great drinks and friendly staff! We sat down had an amazing lunch and then decided to sit the garden to carry on with some great priced drinks.

I booked a table for a family lunch for 6 people. Very poor service, I had to ask for them to come and serve us, even though we were, at that time the only customers inside the place. The waiter mixed up our order so we were brought wrong dishes. When the food arrived, the starters were acceptable but the main course was certainly not. The food was cold, of exceptionally poor quality and one person was brought the wrong dish. We could not eat the food as it was so bad. We called the manager - received no apology, just told that we would be charged for the drinks only. We left the place very hungry and very unhappy, our Easter Monday family lunch had been spoiled.

Me and my friends heard about the open mic night on a Wednesday and thought we would give it a go and we was not disappointed :D Nice range of beers and lagers, they seem to have something on every night like burger or steak night, the food we had was hot and tasty. Definitely will be coming back :)

I hired a room here on the 3rd Feb for a private party for my 30th. We had a buffet from the pub and honestly had a wonderful time. Everyone loved it and the food was great. Thank you!

Came to Cheltenham to visit friends and the Tivoli was highly recommended. We spent a wonderful Friday evening having drinks & Snacks. Whilst there, we were served by Naomi, Sophie and Sav who were exceptional. So friendly and welcoming of out of towners too. We loved it so much we came back on Sunday for a roast which was absolutely delightful and again Naomi and Sophie served us, and catered for my food intolerances with care. Highly recommend and actually hope to come back some time.

Friday night treat to give this pub a try! Madness as it’s not far from home and never been! It was busy and loud but expected! Nice atmosphere & food came out very fast! Lovely staff & great portion size

Myself and my wife had Sunday Lunch at the Tivoli this week, and can I say the food was great and the gravy was to die for. HOWEVER the service from the moment we walked in was appalling. It was almost as it we we being a hinderance interrupting their Sunday. We were ignored on arrival, and when we were shown to a table waited nigh on 15 minutes for our drinks order to be taken..... I eventually went up to the bar to order!, an at that point there were six seated customers . The staff were chatting behind the bar and it was only due to the young girl with red hair (sorry I did not catch your name) that we had any attention at all. In fact as were were leaving I told her "....she was carrying the other two !!!". As someone who has been asked by Google to post reviews, I hope this encourages them to step up the customer experience, as the food is good.

Fantastic evening. The staff were brilliant and we were given the lovely booth table ( table 19 I think) we arrived slightly early to a busy pub and were able to sit at our table. The food great value for money and the gentleman serving us was friendly and attentive. We will definitely be returning. Thankyou so much!

One of the worse meals I’ve had in Cheltenham for years. Food took ages & when it came the waitress apologised saying the chef had a wobble. It was cold, undercooked pasta, dried up Hunters chicken & cold sausages with items missing. Definitely won’t recommend it to any friends or visit again.

Me and my partner decided we would try the Tivoli pub as we had recently moved to the area and this would be our local pub. My partner went into the pub the night before where she was served by “Sav”. She was told by Sav that he hopes “she has ID” as he could not be bothered to ID them, which to begin with is illegal. In the same evening my partner ordered a drink with sav who stated: “what do you want again. I wasn’t paying attention”. My partner put both comments down as to someone having a “bad day”. So we both decided to pop in to check the food out. To be greeted by an empty bar whilst sav sat at a table polishing cutlery, making eye contact and continuing with the polishing, completely ignoring us. After 5 or so minutes sav came over to the bar to serve us, I began to explain we had a table booked when I was met with: “your the 8:30 booking. Hurry up with ordering as the kitchen closes at 9pm.” We were told the food ordering can be done in person to then be ignored for 10 minutes resulting in us ordering on the app. The food came out very fast, as to be expected if the food is microwaved as my lamb shank was. The sharing board is a waste of £20. You can get a bigger portion of similar food at a Wetherspoons for half the price. In between the sharing board coming out and the mains coming out I approached the bar to buy a second pint and was served by a female, the name I did not get but she was heavily tattooed. Before managing to open my mouth I was asked “do you want your mains” which wasn’t the reason for approaching the bar. There was no check back made as we ate our food and the service was appalling. Sav is possibly the rudest person I have met in hospitality. (I myself work in hospitality) Overall dreadful experience. Would not recommend for anyone to go to this pub. It has so much potential only to be ruined by poor service and food quality.

I like this pub as a walk to local.

It’s great to see this place still thriving. Great to see some local ales perfectly crafted to complement their menu! And it was great to be able to bring the dogs, think they got looked after just as well as we did. Thanks team Tivoli!!

Visited with a group of friends for annual Christmas meal. Liked the venue and we had a table and space around us that was big enough for the group. Food wasn’t up to much- several on the table had fish and chips- hardly any chips with their portions. The kids had burgers in brioche buns which appeared stale and they hardly ate. Vegan burger was awful-again stale bun and not a burger- more a fake chicken thing. Hunters chicken was welded to the dish and again very few chips. Overall really disappointing. Wouldn’t recommend and would return to eat again.

I'm not a regular here but I conducted some web design training in one of their upstairs dining rooms many years ago and more recently come for Christmas dinner with my business networking group. I've always liked the way it was refurbished about 15 years ago - it's comfortable, spacious and relaxed. The food was very nice (apart from some interestingly hard sprouts!) and we had our usual semi-private corner between the 6 of us. I'm not a huge fan of pubs but I'd happily meet or eat here if I still lived in Leckhampton.

We were really disappointed by the service we received yesterday at the Tivoli. The waiting staff just weren't interested in serving us. We had to go up to where they were congregating to have a chat three times, once to ask if they could take our order, secondly to ask if they could clear our plates away and bring us dessert menus and finally to pay the bill. We were brought the wrong puddings and there was no apology. We gave up waiting for the right ones to arrive and called it a day. We won't be returning.

Had a festive meal,first class except for the sprouts.

I sat her and gossiped with my friends. Super.

Came in for lunch on Tuesday. Great fish and chips and good, attentive service from the tall chap behind the bar. Many thanks again!

Came in for a drink yesterday and was happily surprised that a friendly smile greeted me behind the bar as this rarely happens anywhere anymore. Thank you to Samantha for making a good impression and I will definitely be returning

Great food, as well as a great range of craft beers available. Service is always top notch, but in particular, Naomi, Matt, Samantha and the team always deliver.

Oh my goodness, whatever has happened to The Tivoli? Hero to zero so quickly! Whoever they have in the kitchen really shouldn’t be. Absolutely awful food even after the second attempt. In fairness the bar staff were so good and mega apologetic but nevertheless don’t have a cook or chef who thinks raw pasta is cooked in a microwave and can’t even cook chips so that they are edible. In fairness the fish was nice enough at the second attempt but not nice enough to make up for the rest. Such a shame. Update: We decided that it had to have been a glitch given how good The Tivoli has been in the past so we gave it another try and I am delighted to say that it’s back to its usual high standard! Well done to all concerned and so pleased you are back in the “go to” list of good Cheltenham pubs!

What a wonderful pub, the atmosphere was perfect, very friendly staff especially Naomi, she couldn't do enough Quirky corners where a quiet drink or sit at the bar where your very welcome to join in the fun conversations , food amazing , I would give 100% and definitely be coming back

Had a fabulous roast lunch here to celebrate some family birthdays. The table had been booked ahead thankfully - they were having to turn people away as they were fully booked for lunch. The staff were really lovely and friendly, and the roast lunch was amazing - with plenty of extra roast potatoes and gravy when requested. The food and drinks were bought out promptly and we had no complaints whatsoever. We gather that the Tivoli has recently had a few staffing problems, which may have caused a few issues, but we would have no hesitation in returning in the future, and wish the new manager all the very best. Thank you for a really delicious lunch!

I booked for a lunch party of 10, with no pre ordering or deposit and it was absolutely lovely. Most of us had a 2 items for a fixed price, vegetarians and meat eaters alike seemed to enjoy their meal, beautiful presentation of all food. I had a bruschetta/mushroom and cheese plus a pasta dish all delicious and something I wouldn't make at home. Highly recommend .

Good food and good beer selection. Little out of town but near the train station. Defo one to add to the jaunt from deya/train back into town (the long way). Atmos based on the Friday lunchtime we visited and there were only 3 couples. Feels like the right (or wrong) time to visit

Had a light lunch in this deceptively large pub in a smart area of Cheltenham. Chicken and avo sandwich was tasty as was the beer - there was a choice of several ales which was nice. Service was quick and friendly.

As a group of 4+ we have been here for food on 3 occasions in the last few months. First time we came for Sunday roast which wasn't too bad. We decided to book again and pretty much everything had ran out on the menu. We were told this was due to a change of menu so we accepted this and only 2 of us ate. Meals (fish pie & hunters chicken were mediocre) Decided to book again this evening to give the tivoli a chance to redeem themselves. Had a call 2 hours before our booking to say roasts had ran out. We decided to proceed with our booking, 2 of us ordered their 'award winning steak pie' at £17 each. One one plate came out stone cold and was put in the oven to reheat whilst the rest of our table had pretty much finished eating. Another member of our group ordered gammon, egg & chips. Meal came out with stone cold peas and no egg because they'd apparently ran out of eggs (on a sunday)! The person serving us was very polite and apologetic and we didn't pay for one of our meals. However food was completely unacceptable and sadly we will not be eating here again. The pub wasn't even busy and had only 2 tables occupied. No excuses for such terrible cuisine.

Absolue rubbish. Waited 90 minutes for food despite not being busy. Allegedly the chef hadn't prepped the food. Burnt sausages! Waiter seemed more interested in his phone than doing his job. 3 beers off. AVOID AT ALL COSTS UNLESS YOU WANT TO WASTE YOUR MONEY AND TIME

Great time at The Tivoli. We love it here! We often come here for an after work pint Took the parents for lunch, fab time had by all. We will be back!

have eaten at this restaurant before and it was good. went yesterday afternoon with my wife who had been for a scan. she hadn't eaten for 20 hours and we went to the Tripoli. we ordered a starter of calamari and for me Mussels main course. when served my dish was luke warm and there was very little juice for the bread to mop up. I returned my mussels and they came back out hotter but now over cooked and my chips which accompanied the dish were now cold. My wife's Calamari was also not hot, she only ate 3 and my mussels were not even half eaten. i went to the bar and complained and the staff member cancelled the mussels and i paid £27-05 for what really was for 2 glasses of wine. Before leaving the Chef went to the bar and stared at me in a not friendly way, as if to say how dare you complain about my cooking. when we got back home we went to a local pub and they had mussels on the menu which i had and they were hot not over cooked with lots of juice. I can honestly say as pensioners the meal at the Tivoli was the worst i have had in years and the price over the top for what we ordered. I usually visit this restaurant for lunch twice a year with 2 male colleagues but will not be suggesting we go again. George Irvine.

Six adults and a toddler went for Sunday roast, and I have to say the food was very good. Sadly, the service wasn't, I believe they were short staffed. We will definitely give them a second chance, as we live close by. Atmosphere lovely!

Nice big pub, with a pleasant back yard. I particularly like the outside booths. The service was a bit poor, as the kid behind the bar was bored and vacant. When I asked for a glass of tempranillo she asked if it was red, white, or rose, as she had to read the labels. I'd go again, as different bar staff would be a different experience.

It was a Monday night and 6pm when we sat down to eat, so expected a quiet pub and I wasn't disappointed. Hate crowded places so that was great for me. Service was good. I had the 3 cheese beefburger and my wife had a vegetarian pie ( can't remember the name of it, sorry) Anyway, it's a really nice pub and dog friendly. Food is pretty good and I just wish I lived a bit closer to it 😄

Very over priced and over rated

Lovely position next to small lake. Lots of ducks , boats to paddle around island in the lake. Good for breakfast, lunch and some meals at night. Children really seemed to enjoy the cafe and parkland outside. Easy parking

Great meal here today for a work lunch. It was very quiet and the service was fab. Good portion sizes and prices. I hadn't been before but I'm very glad I have now!

Average Sunday roast, was a busy day - 2x parties on - so would try again and hope for better quality on a less busy day.

Came here on Sunday for lunch with my children. The food was excellent. Large portions (but still room for pudding!) and we were well looked after by the staff. Would recommend!

A vibrant and busy pub, food is decent regular pub grub (rather than exceptional) and live music on Fridays. Sports screens throughout which for me is the only negative (subjective I know) so docked a star. Without these it would be my local.

I was there for Sunday lunch with Helen bishop (also reviewed) and to confirm what she said, it was nice surroundings and setting but the food was just not good enough! I paid over £100 for food and drink for 5 of us to be served awful chewy meat very grisly and the waitress didn't even care to take it further... I should have taken it further myself but tried to make the best of it with my family who had traveled from swindon. Also tried charging us for extras we shouldn't have been charged for lol 👎

UPDATE: We have just enjoyed a fantastic complimentary meal with great service at The Tivoli courtesy of the owners, to make up for the problems we previously had. We will now definitely be back again. Rating updated from 1 to 5 stars. Thank you Tivoli. ORIGINAL REVIEW, NOW SUPERFLUOUS: Absolutely appalling business to deal with. I booked online on Saturday for Sunday lunch and received a confirmation email. Less than 1 hour before our booking it was cancelled by the pub. I called their bookings number and was told that it wasn’t their fault and the booking systems were always confirming tables which were not available. The unprofessional man on the phone basically didn’t care that the booking was cancelled and said I should understand as it wasn’t their fault. I say it was definitely their fault as they are listing on Google and other booking sites. They should not be on these sites if they cannot honour the bookings. The staff member I spoke to could not have cared less that we’d been let down. I urge everyone to give this unprofessional establishment a very wide berth.

A basic pub with a limited drinks list. If you are only after a pint and nothing else, it’s fine. Otherwise for atmosphere and a wider drinks list, head somewhere else.

A very good local pub, good selection of beers and friendly staff..Best peroni in town (in my opinion), nice courtyard and sport on TV. Sunday roast is very good and there is some on street parking outside. Very much my goto place on an evening out or on way to the bath road..update..getting better again...new management?

Pleasant surroundings but food left something to be desired. Meat on Sunday lunch was like scraps of chewy grisle that was used due to lack of anything better. Not even like it was at end of service , not that that should be an excuse. Disappointed with nonchalant attitude when mentioned to waitress.

Attending a birthday party we found the bar staff were very efficient and friendly, great atmosphere and good food.

Expected a quiet drink but it was buzzing. Loud but music was worth it.

Would definitely recommend this lovely pub with it's relaxing atmosphere. Had a 3 course meal and soft drink for £21, great value and there was plenty of choice on the food menu. We received a very attentive, efficient service from Ollie and Josh who were very welcoming and friendly to our party of six.

Found a real gem here. Great food, drinks and staff.. we’re both vegetarian . This is one of the few places that not only caters for vegetarian but also gives you options as well.. if you’re vegetarian or vegan try it.. the atmosphere is really relaxing/refreshing

The whole family (8) came for a Christmas 3 course meal. We were all looking forward to it, as this was the first family meal we had got together since my mum suffered a major stroke, 12 months ago. We booked the table for 1pm. They took over half an hour for the starts to arrive. Then same again for the mains. The prawn/crayfish was awful, (tasted watery & not long defrosted) tasteless. The main meals were either beef or pork or turkey all tasted the same and very salty. The vegetable were disgusting, over cooked. We had to ask for gravy. They should of put the vegetables in dishes in the middle of the tablet to help ourselves. As for the dessert. They were average at best. Very disappointed and won’t be returning.

Good place to meet colleagues and have dinner together. Some food on our table was bit too salty.

I really like this place...the food options are really great. Its like pub classics meats Mediterranean. We had the platter to share and really enjoyed it. The beer choice is great with Tiny Rebel Club Tropicana on draft and Bevertown Neck oil. The vibe is great, with it never feeling like its too busy even with every table occupied. I'll be back for more.

Good atmosphere, plenty of seating and a lovely restaurant area, outdoor heating for the seats under waterproof canopy and good selection of wines, spirits and beer. 28th September just attended a fanatic quiz, Johnny did a fantastic job supporting the excellent quiz master to create a great atmosphere, excellent quiz and a really enjoyable night. Well done Johnny and Chris G. Aka quiz master...already booked in for the next quiz, really looking forward to it 👍

Have had good experience here before. We went relatively late on Sunday for dinner - didn't expect roasts to still be going by that time, so all good, but no pies left either - leaving very limited menu. One of our party opted for steak "medium to well done" and it turned up very rare. After querying, it was replaced (with a great one) and meal removed from bill - the right thing to do, but it meant that one of us had to eat alone. Bar staff surly and looked like they didn't want to be there. Maybe a bad night, one off, but not the experience of old. Could do better team :)

Love the service ethic here, stood at the bar waiting to get my pint and Ash, who I assumed was busy with another customer as she was pouring a pint, finished the pour and immediately put it in front of me with a great big grin. No need to say a word… THAT is customer service 👌

Always loved this pub for the ambiance of just being a pub for a drink or a venue to dine. Our waiter tonight was Matt who was very friendly and attentive and his attitude of ascertaining we had all we required. Food was excellent well done Sam. Will certainly be coming back!

Slightly up market feel, really nice to take a visitor in the pleasant environs of Tivoli

Terrible service, waited so long to be served we went to the bar to order only to be told to sit down as its table service. Drinks finally came out wrong, water that was asked for was bought out as we finished eating. Food came out without any of the extras that were ordered, which were then bought out halfway through eating. Veg was uncooked and cold, asked for gravy that was forgotten which also never arrived.

Lovely meal at this pub, everyone was so friendly and loved the atmosphere! Neala and Caitlin, the two waitresses were so kind and very helpful. As well as the service being fantastic, the food was delicious so shout out to the kitchen staff! ( especially the brownie! Lovely ! ) overall great pub :)
