Brown Jug in Cheltenham

Excellent tasty home cooked food, large portions, great service!

Last Sunday, four of us went for lunch, and it was exceptional! The best I've had in years. Everything was perfect, the red cabbage even better! Can heartily recommend the Broen Jug for Sunday lunch, will be returning!

My recent visit to a Cheltenham pub for Sunday roast was outstanding, placing it among my top three dining experiences in the area. Opting for the mixed beef and lamb, I was served a perfectly portioned, flavorful meal. The meats were succulent and well-prepared, avoiding the common pitfall of being overcooked. Accompanied by generous sides of potatoes, beans, and red cabbage, the meal was a delightful mix of tastes and textures. The staff's friendliness further enhanced the dining experience, making the atmosphere warm and welcoming. Extremely poor quality and poor value Christmas menu.

Back room was freezing but the food was excellent

Went for the quiz night and ate some Korean chicken wings that were some of the best wing's I have ever had and a very tasty sticky toffee pudding. They had some nice ales on tap and the staff were friendly and helpful.

Best Sunday dinner in the world. Honestly it's the best thing going. Staff are the best in the world too. Lovely pub 11/10. Always a pleasure in there

We had Sunday lunch here and are both vegetarian,the meal was lovely,lots of sides,the red cabbage and cauliflower cheese were particularly good,great service and staropramen on draught,a perfect Sunday

Sunday roast, wow, amazing quality, plentiful quantity, underselling, as cost for what you receive seems unbalanced. Am slightly reticent about leaving this review as it may make The Brown Jug so sought after I would struggle to get in, but the owners / staff, deserve it for such an amazing experience.

Sometimes come with my partner to play pool. Staff are nice and the atmosphere is great.

Amazing Sunday dinner! Staff are lovely and welcoming 😁 called ahead to ask if they had room for 2 and when we got there a table was dressed ready for us! Definately visit again 👍

Went to their first comedy night in association with Crackers Comedy clubs. It was sold out with the only tickets available were standing room only! Rosie, was really welcoming and friendly. The food was great and the drinks were not too expensive. The Comedy was top class with the headline act Iszy Lawrence bringing down the house with some quality joke. I would recommend the Brown Jug and highly recommend Crackers Comedy Club events!

We live in Cheltenham (Bath Road area) so have loads of places to choose from. The Jug is one of our FAVS. It’s a local pub, with authentic home cooked grub and always a warm welcome. It’s changed hands a few times and finally in the hands of people who know their stuff. Highly recommend it ~ grab a cold pint, play a spot of darts, scoff amazing food and go home happy

They serve a good pint of Guinness, seem ok not tried food.....

Tried all the cafes in bath road. Brown Jug beats then hands down for food.

Although it was a quiet lunch time atmosphere was friendly and service excellent.Had lunch chicken and mushroom pie with creamy mash and seasonal vegetables, everything was hot and very tasty

THE BEST PUB IN CHELTENHAM!!! Good food, good drink, amazing staff. Pop ups on the days they don't serve food working with loads of local independent street food businesses, all do amazing food themselves. They show all the big sports games too and even have live music nights 🙌 They have it all!

Great place to watch the rugby, dog friendly. Worth booking though as it gets very full (all just adds to the atmosphere though)

Good pub friendly welcome and dog friendly and excellent food

Wow wow wow. The roast dinners here are just something special. Average 1 a month and the service is fault less great staff chatty and helpful. The food is always and I mean always on point. The roast dinners are presented incredibly and taste amazing. The chefs have the magic touch. Love sitting in the back room, sport on in the back ground never to loud just perfect on a Sunday.

Lovely staff, big venue so you can either sit somewhere quieter or with the crowd. I really really recommend chicken burger, it's juicy and tender but cooked through.

The Brown Jug is blessed with some great staff who are very attentive. They have well kept Wadworths Ales, and have good honest pub food (which is hard to find these days). A Bath road favourite highly recommended.

Amazing staff and amazing atmosphere

Lovely bar staff. Few pints of Strapomen Friday afternoon in the front garden area, sun shining down. Good vibes and good prices.

Cannot fault any part of our experience at the brown jug. We were booked in for Sunday lunch and were greeting by such friendly staff who went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and comfortable , especially with the covid measures they have put in place. The Sunday roast was incredible, possibly the best I've ever had and the cheesecake was amazing! Have already recommended the brown jug to others and will definetly be back soon!

It's a friendly pub but disappointed about the social distancing. The people where I was sat were under a metre away. The gents toilet has both toilets available allowing other people to be close without any controls. Food and drink is great but i don't feel safe here during the pandemic. Sorry.

A lively proper local with a good range of beers, very good food and cheerful and friendly staff.

Friendly staff. They don't make you feel like lepers and service was prompt and the prices where reasonable. Small pub friendliness with a smile.

Burger was really good, chips and sides just as nice and quality big screens to watch the football. Not 5 stars because it was a bit cramped for room and getting through to the table was awkward. Definitely would go back.

Monday 10th August, we arrived for our meal at 6pm and had ordered at around 6:20pm. At 7:30pm. That's an hour and a half of having been there (1 hour and 10min after ordering), before the food arrived. It's a disappointment that no one bothered to inform us of a wait, until we asked. With a toddler in tow, this isn't the service I'd expect. By the time his food arrived, it was his bath time, but of course having been there for an hour and a half already, we'd have normally expected to have left by then. My wife and mother in-law left at 8pm as it was really getting too late to put our toddler to bed. Our entire evening and night had been ruined by the immense delay. That night, as his routine was completely off, he hardly slept. Simply not what I'd expect. Due to the wait, we also decided to skip dessert. At the end of the meal, the server (after complaining again) gave us our drinks for free, which seems ok, but for the peanuts it would cost (especially on the 50% government scheme, this was a smack in the face). The table behind us got their entire meal for free due to the issue. I'm not after a freebie, but a genuine apology and effort put in to improve the situation goes a long way. The food was ok, but due to the wait and awful service, we won't be coming back.

Friendly bar staff good selection of beers didn't get time to sample the food but looked and smelt delicious.

Great place. Staff are all incredibly professional, yet walk the line of being friendly at the same time. Definitely does not scrimp on portion sizes with food, which is always amazing. Good selection of sports shown. Overall just a really nice pub, better than the image of the "local"

Awesome pub, recently bought back to life under new landlords. Great beers, friendly bar staff and lovely fresh food cooked to order. The Sunday roast is to die for! They always show major sporting events with food readily available. They also have a regular quiz with a quiz master of some distinction running the show. There is a great room available for private hire as well. Everything you need for a great pub!

If you need a local this is the place! it's stepped up the game, great place friendly staff. Food is good and worth the price and any event or day always nice to visit. Rugby world cup and breakfast great combo

Hemos regresado a Brown Jug varias veces desde que la gerencia cambió. ¡No nos ha decepcionado! Hemos comido allí tres veces recientemente y la comida ha sido consistentemente buena. El ambiente es excelente y hay una cálida bienvenida para todos los que visitan el pub. ¡Es amigable con los perros y muy humano! Hay escalones que suben al pub y escalones a los baños, así que no para las personas que no pueden manejar las escaleras. El menú es bueno y esperamos muchas más noches allí.

Visité el cuestionario anoche. Esto solía ser un asunto agradable y con buen ritmo, ya no. El maestro de cuestionarios está claramente bajo las órdenes del nuevo gerente de "encadenarlo". Esto se volvió tedioso y vergonzoso, ya que todo se repitió en numerosas ocasiones. Nos fuimos temprano y no volveremos. El reparto de la comida del cuestionario ahora también se ve disminuido y limitado a pequeñas papas fritas y pizza. ¡Cuando su elección de cerveza se limita al rango de Wadsworth, tiene que hacerlo mejor que esto!

Rod the landlord has to be one of the best in the business. He is popular with his customers and runs a great pub. The Guiness is the best I have tasted outside of Ireland

Bienvenido a la llegada, por el personal del bar y los lugareños. Orden adoptadas y tres cenas asado llego enseguida. Absolutamente genial. Verduras muy frescas y no pasada! Volvería la próxima vez que estemos en la zona. Me gustaría ver sillas y mesa individual en vez de la mesa de madera y un banco de cerveza puerta delantera - sin duda más atractiva.

El viernes el almuerzo con un amigo y, una vez más, me quedé muy impresionado por la calidad de la comida y el servicio en este pequeño pub sin pretensiones. No puede ser más elegantes lugares para comer en Cheltenham pero para bien hechas, fresca, sabrosa comida a precios muy razonables, es inmejorable Brown jarra. Tenía un delicioso carbonara mientras mi amigo tenía una puerta de un bocadillo, lleno de abundante y con pan fresco. Ella lo disfrutamos muchísimo. Mi pasta estaba buenísimo y era una generosa porción. Este lugar es muy educado y el personal excelente comida merece ser más concurrido durante almuerzo los días laborales.
