Charlton Kings Hotel Restaurant in Cheltenham

Awful experience, asked for a refund for 3 nights but was told “no chance”! Tried to go through hotels.com, manager was in empathetic and unwilling to refund. Think twice before booking here…!

This is a very nice hotel. Located just off the Cotswald way. Within a 45 minute walk from the historic Cheltenham city. The rooms are very comfortable and have all the amenities that you would expect. The restaurant is very nice. White cloth tables. The food is very good. What stands out the most is the staff. They are all extremely, nice, helpful, accommodating. I really cannot give them enough praise. Sammy, the proprietor is, very responsive when we had some minor issues with the room. It was literally fixed within an hour. She responded to each inquiry very quickly and appropriately. Each and every staff member from the people who clean the rooms, to the repair man, to the Restaurant staff received high praise from us.

Stayed here 2 weeks ago. Lovely hotel, very clean, staff very attentive. Some of the furniture in rooms a bit dated and damaged. Excellent food at the onsite restaurant

Quirky contactless hotel. Loved the whole idea. Spotless spacious room and comfy bed. Creative spiral staircase which was a new one on me! Oodles of hot water. Restaurant attached looked very nice. What a shame to see damage caused by previous guests....doesn't anybody care anymore?

We had a great stay with my parents, and I'd like to thank the team for helping me! The rooms are clean, there's everything you need and it's quiet! Everything was perfect! You can find buses 5 minutes away that will take you to the town centre in 10 minutes maximum!

A short stay here enroute. Rooms were warm and clean. Liked the keysafe service. Was sent an email with the code the night before and as I arrived at 5am I was in my room very quickly. Never made it for breakfast, but thought the dinner menu was stunning. Waiters were attentive without being invasive.

What a good idea, keep prices low by keeping things simple. Nice room, decent location and all you need from a hotel for a reasonable price. It's the way forward!!!

Really liked it here. Nice sized room Easy check in. ✔️ There isn't a reception as such. The night before your stay you get a msg telling you you're room number and the access code to get your key. The whole building was nice and clean. There was a bar & restaurant there (didn't use it though) The room was spacious enough. The temperature in the room was great and it was pretty quiet in the room I had. Bathroom and shower were good too. Will definitely stay again when in the area

I booked this for hiking the Cotswold Way. A little concerned about how a contactless hotel would work but the codes for the front door and room key safe arrived the night before. So you do need access to your email to stay here. Room was fine, clean and the bed was comfortable. Small TV but adequate. Nothing to complain about. Would stay again. There is a restaurant/bar attached to the hotel that isn't contactless and it is great. Open from 8am for breakfast.

Great hotel rooms furnished to a very good standard very quiet nice views over fields.we had a deluxe king room 5 big room good ensuite and plenty of storage for clothes lovely big chest of drawers. Only suggestion is tv very small for size of room 😀. Highly recommend.

Access and parking good. Staff polite. Deluxe king size bed was actually two singles pushed together. Sheets clean. Two empty wine bottles left from previous customers, so dubious cleaning regime. Room too hot in February, even with radiators off. Loud gurgling noise heard throughout was disturbing, like sleeping in a washing machine. TV broken. No breakfast available. Room 10. Paid £50 for a last minute booking, reduced from £150 which would have been a massive rip off.

The room as clean and pleasent, the views and location is nice no noise and near amenities remember this is self service so bring your own water etc there is a bar and restaurant we ate the food was lovely and the staff were nice in there. One draw back is the corridors smell of the food a little downstairs but once you're in your room you won't smell it.. Its clean and that's perfect there are a few minis in the bathroom and a little kettle with coffee sugar milk.. Very good value for money

Unfortunately I cannot recommend this hotel. The 'double bed' in Room 4 was not big enough for me and my wife, so I had the worst sleep I have ever had. The rooms are very clean and the code entries all worked. So they just need bigger beds. I echo the praise for the adjoining restaurant. It is small but cosy. The staff all seemed very kind and were good at their jobs, especially Mr Moon. My highest praise is for the cook. He is top notch. So, recommend the food, cannot recommend the stay. So 3 stars.

L'hotel è in mezzo alle cotswolds, situato nei pressi di una strada principale, facilmente raggiungibile e visibile. Non ha reception ma è ugualmente semplice accedere alla stanza, visto le dettagliate istruzioni giunte via email. Di fronte all'ingresso c'è un ampio parcheggio. La camera è ampia, ben pulita e con un ottima insonorizzazione. La camera è fornita di bollitore e tv ma non di frigo. Il letto è comodo e fornisce un buon sostegno. Sono presenti anche cuscini con diversa durezza. Torneremo sicuramente in questa ottima struttura.

Encore restaurant is a hidden gem in plain sight. Food, wine and service are fantastic. Quite different to the pubs and other restaurants in CK. Plenty of fresh fish and choice on menu

Our room was fabulous! Bed was so comfortable, best nights sleep I’ve had at any hotel I’ve stayed in! Spotlessly clean. Restaurant staff were so helpful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. Our evening meal was delicious, I absolutely cannot fault this hotel!! Thank you so much for making our stay an absolute pleasure!

Great new restaurant in Charlton Kings . I ate in the restaurant for the two nights I stayed , Fantastic freshly cooked food and excellent staff … I’ll be back for sure !

Relaxed, comfortable, well appointed contactless hotel. Reasonable taxi fares to town. Garden space ideal in the hot weather. Better access to drinks and snacks would have improved the experience.

A perfect little contactless hotel on the outskirts of Cheltenham. The room was very clean and spacious, and facilities were excellent. Access was easy, and food was quite nice in the restaurant also.

A lovely clean little room (bar a few naughty hairs in the bath).. BUT, way too noisy.. all the doors bang and it ricochets through the room, the floors all creak so you can hear every bodies movements & because its an auto entry place, a guest managed to lock himself out and woke us up at 2am.. The head board creaked and bouncy mattress (for the wrong reason) so all in all very little sleep was had. It’s a shame, as a nice looking clean up together place. On the plus, lovely walks opposite.

We stayed here with our friends whilst walking the Cotswold Way. After 12.5 miles of walking we were pleasantly surprised with how accommodating the staff was. We got a pint straight away and the bar keep was lovely. Once in our rooms we were amazed at the size of the rooms and the fact that they had en-suite bathrooms was a major bonus! When dinner came we had no expectations, but when our food came we all were blown away at the quality, presentation, and taste of the food. When I say this was the best meal we have had so far in the Cotswold’s it truly is. We received a Michelin quality meal for £25 for a 3 course meal. What a bargain!!!

This is a hidden gem in the Cotswolds. We stayed here one night during our walking tour of the Cotswold Way. The rooms are unusually large for the UK, with a shower/bathroom in the room. The restaurant is amazing. For £25 you get a Michelin quality dinner in a charming dining room. The staff are the friendliest people. We felt so welcomed. The pints were cold, the food was hot and service was top notch.

Nos recomendaron esto y fue muy agradable por dentro y por fuera en el jardín. La comida también era buena. El único problema era que ninguno de los miembros del personal llevaba máscaras o viseras.

Tuvimos un excelente desayuno vegetariano con todos los adornos. Nada era demasiado problema, y mi perro incluso consiguió su propia salchicha para el desayuno también. Nos sentamos en la zona del bar por el perro, pero esto era perfectamente aceptable.

If you are looking for a warm welcome, family atmosphere and a home from home feel, this is the perfect hotel to visit. Recently taken over just 3 weeks ago, and a lot of work to be done, you just know owner Guy will pull it off having hotelier experience from around the world and getting other hotels up and running,and keeping a tight ship will get things done. At the moment, The Charlton is just running a B&B service and the room I booked was tidy, comfortable beds and pleasant. Yes, the room was a little tired and in need of modernisation, but that didn't matter too much as this will be rectified this year as I was told. There was a well stocked bar, new coffee machine and a wide selection of breakfast items as well as fresh fruits. The cooked breakfast were cooked very well by chef Chris and good comments from other diners were heard which is a good thing to hear. Myself and family were well looked after as were the other residents and we were very well looked after and kept laughing by owner and staff. A great team, keep up the great work and looking forward to visiting later in the year for an .

Stayed from Thursday to Sunday and ate hear every night. Sadly was the same menu as not great. Food was ok but keylime pie tasted of cream and pastry only. Mash on first night was dry but everything else was ok

came here on a special deal although, not terribly cheap. Room was fine and facilities good. Although, in the blurb it doesn't tell you that you only get 25 pounds towards your dinner, which for most dishes won't buy you 3 courses as the advert suggests! Dinner was the main issue, and to be fair the Hotel did say they would be contacting us about our complaint, as yet we haven't heard anything! The restaurant manager was pretty unfriendly is how you would describe it, I think. Although, the staff were really top notch especially Issy who was superb. The starter was fine, although there was a delay with collecting our dirties. When our main course didn't arrive and we saw people arrive after us who had been served alarm bells began to ring. We questioned the so called duty manager who, although looking sheepish made up some fumbled story about what it was we had ordered. Although, the couple next to us had had exactly the same and got served in half the time! Eventually, we asked once again and he went into the kitchen and bought out our order, sum 30 minutes later. When I enquired what the problem was again, he fobbed us off. We had rather he had been honest and told us the truth, like we have forgotten you! The evening went from bad to worse as my husbands pork was raw at one end! As you might imagine we were 'hopping'! Issy took control as the manager clearly could not and got us fresh food, which took some time! We didn't pay for our drinks (2 pints of beer) but our anniversary was ruined! I think they got off pretty lightly don't you! So be aware of this!

food lovely beautifully presented .excellent staff my husband had smoked salmon starter I had scallops which were gorgeous main meal my husband had the duo of pork and I had the sea bream both were cooked to perfection .we finished our meal off with cheese and biscuits .overall a very enjoyable meal .

Very convenient for Cotswold Way walkers staying at nearby Detmore House. Pleasant and welcoming hosts. Well-cooked, tasty food. Particularly enjoyed my banana split, even better than I had remembered from my youth! Service excellent.

We were staying at The nearby Detmore House and walked the short distance to the Charlton Kings Hotel for an evening meal. The food was excellent, served by a very welcoming proprietor. Happy to recommend.

What a fantastic place to stay. Our room was very clean and spacious. The breakfasts fantastic. The owners were more than helpful. Would recommend this as a great place to stay and would stay there again.

After a long drive, we stopped by this place as it was near to where we were staying with the intention of having a meal. We should have known what to expect when we saw there was only one customer in the bar and two people in the restaurant. (Thursday night, 8pm, cheltenham races on and an empty hotel/bar?). We asked for a menu and were provided with one by the only staff member, an elderly man who looked miserable. My husband, who has had a major operation to his throat and severely compromises his ability to eat, was pleased to. Late that there was fish on the menu and asked if it came with a sauce. When told it did not, I explained the situation and asked if there as anyway sauce/gravy which could could be provided (which we would pay for). His response could only be described as sneering and patronising in the extreme. All he had to do was say 'no, sorry' and we would have accepted this. However, he choose to be sneering and rude. Needless to say, we left. Fortunately, we found a terrific pub, the Royal Oak, a few miles along the road, which was full, but the staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome and provided terrific food. We don't expect special treatment, we do expect courteous behaviour, whether they can accommodate dietary needs or not. This place was badly in need of a facelift, a very limited menu , limited customers and an unpleasant staff member. Would not recommend to anyone.
