The Tiffin in Scarborough

We went for a cup of tea and teacake which was nice so decided to come back for the Sunday lunch but it was awful the potatoes and roast potatoes had just been re heated and tasted disgusting the Yorkshire pudding was burnt the beef was OK was very ddisappointed wouldn't go back

Food inedible. Service left a lot to be desired. Table area was filthy. Never again would we think about walking in there

Food is clearly bought from a supermarket-cheap!! Very expensive for frozen food that you can buy from your local Aldi. It averages about ten pounds for a meal that was very bland and bad quality. The chicken burger that I ordered was something which I had eaten before at home from the freezer. For the price you would expect ATLEAST fresh food. Don’t recommend coming here, biggest waste of £60 I have ever spent! Absolute ripoff. Even over charged us for food we never ordered.

Good sized portions of fish and chips, was able to get a take out box for leftovers which was good. Didn't take too long for food to appear. Noticed they have some gluten free cake options which is good! Very enjoyable

Food was ok, very expensive for what it is though £9 for two supermarket sausages, one piece of bacon, beans and a fried egg, some toast. I chose not to have the black pudding and mushrooms and they asked if I wanted something else in exchange, I made my choice but I’d didn’t turn up. The older lady and the young cook laughed when they discussed my wife not having butter on her toast for her beans on toast. Far too expensive £5 for beans on toast! Town centre tourist robbery at its finest. Avoid.

Great homecooked food with a wide selection to choose from. Everything is freshly prepared. We recommend the lasagne and giant yorkshire.

Excellent really good service and staff good food and drink service really good to and great value. Clean place near to the harbour only few mins walk to town center. Good menu they deserve more praise and recognition. Highly recommended and i would like to come here again 5 stars. Really liked the people here very quick service and great food beautiful views not far walking to all amenities i love whitby nice people scenery and place of safety as well

Never been in before so thought we would give it a try…so glad we did. Great menu with enough choice plus specials board. Friendly staff and customers. Ordered jacket spud with tuna mayo, extra coleslaw and steak pie with chips and veg. Pot of tea which was hot and plenty of it. The food was brilliant, the pie pastry was so flaky and it was a huge piece with lots of meat, carrots, swede, broccoli abd gravy. Tuna spud was lovely and came with home made coleslaw, salad and butter portions. We both enjoyed it. £25 for both meals with tea and the best meal we’ve had in two weeks of eating in Yorkshire! I made sure to thank the chef as he left after lunch service and told him we will be back before we go home this weekend.

Never judge a book by its cover! Not much from the outside but lovely food, lovely service. Hubby wanted a cooked breakfast and he wasn’t disappointed.

we payed for a cup of coffee gave us half a cup of coffe the butter was harder than a brick and the attitude of the ladys serving was appalling i do not recommend eating there and the toast was burnt to a crisp

Second day in Whitby chose the tiffin for breakfast was not disappointed, lovely staff quick service and tasty food for the price I wasn't expecting the food to be as good as it was, the previous day we had breakfast at a bistro costing 13 pounds which arrived cold, bland and tasteless would highly recommend the tiffin

Friendly, quick service, food lovely reasonable price.

Lovely cafe, great service. We had a really fresh fish and chips, batter was light, fish full and fresh. We also had a steak pie which was packed full of meat, no fat at all. We will go again.

The roast Sunday dinner are very poor the roast potatoes was not cook at all the yorkshire puddings was not cook I will not be coming back here at all for a roast dinner ever again rubbish roast dinner ever in whitby

Good food, fresh and tasty. Very cheap. A bit chilly inside, keep your jacket on 😉 Nice personel, fast service. I do recommend it for breakfast and coffee.

Lady at counter was incredibly snarky and rude when asked a simple question

Visited with some friends whilst staying in Whitby. Everywhere else was full and came in here as a last resort on the walk back to our rental. Very friendly lady behind the counter and warm welcome. Food was great value and was quickly deliverd by another friendly member of staff. It was very tasty and we all really enjoyed it. If you are looking for great vaue, tasty food and friendly service, I would recommend.

Mum likes it here we've been twice this week for cake and a cuppa nice clean cafe with chairs and tables outside.

My wife and I were in Whitby yesterday and paid a visit. I have to say that the service and food were excellent, but the real surprise was the price. Having declined to pay £5 for a portion of mushy peas, at a restaurant around the corner, we feared the worst, but needed something to eat / drink. Came across this place and would recommend to anyone. Great value for money and prices that haven't skyrocketed.

Nearly got a four star. We stopped for a quick coffee and cake. Staff very quick to put a ramp down for my wife's buggy. Coffees good but lemon meringue cake bit bland with no lemon bite, scone ok. Once again on exiting the cafe staff quick to put ramp down. Staff very good but food bit average.

The worst prawn salad ever absolutley horrific

Ordered 2 breakfast s and a bacon butty.30 mins to arrive at our table.bacon was a burnt offering and black pudding not cooked.when I complained the server had a massive attitude problem. Snatched our plates from in front of us and said I'll give u your money back.the food should of never left the kitchen and think some training in customer service wouldn't go a miss ! Usually had lovely food in here,but today was something else.

We had a fresh fruit scone with jam & a large piece of delicious & filling lemon cake. The lady serving was very nice. Made you feel at home. A tea & bottle of water washed down our lite bites. All this for less than £7.50. Value for money. Clean throughout & outside seating if weather is kind. The toilet is reached by a rather steep staircase but accessible with care if mobility is an issue. Thank you will call again.

I cannot believe this company. My wife has just been in as she is 7 month pregnant to quickly use the toilet (yes I know its customers only) but for a staff/management to come out and shout at my autistic son who yes I admit shouldn't be touching the defibrillator box but to call him a SWINE in front of all your very few customers is dreadful. How about you learn about mental health you absolute joke of a cafe. I would rather eat out the bins than grace you with any hard earned cash. Mental disabilities are no joke. Would you shout at someone with a wheel chair? DO NOT COME HERE AND HOPEFULLY THEY CLOSE SOON.

Today Tuesday 14th march I went in this establishment for a bite to eat Well when my breakfast came out it was all pilled on top of one another presentation was awful the lady took it back and they brought back out they’d only taken the fried bread of onto a side plate got to be the worst breakfast I’ve ever had it was cold and the mushroom were swimming in grease I had to leave it Service wasn’t good Think I will stick to what I no from now on Singing Kettle!!!!

Whilst visiting Whitby today we popped in for a spot of lunch. I had the fish and chips and my partner had the steak pie and veg. Was lovely. Health portions. Great tasting food. Very responsible prices too.

Popped in for breakfast. Wish we hadn’t bothered. Tried to order poached eggs but bluntly told ‘no, not on a Sunday as need the hob for Sunday lunches’. Charged an extra 10p for coffee rather than tea with the breakfast - seriously! Overcharged but when pointed it out just got the change put on the table. No apology. Even then it was wrong so we had to point it out again. Same happened - no apology. Food was average. Toast soggy. Plate overloaded so hard to eat it. Won’t be back

We have drove down from Durham today and stopped of for a breakfast at the Tiffin we both chose the Tiffin breakfast with 8 items and a mug of tea we both thoroughly enjoyed it, it was served piping hot a nice clean filling good quality breakfast at a good price I would highly recommend calling in thanks Dawn and Andrew

Lovely meal. Well cooked & presented. Well worth the cost.

We went to The Tiffin on a dreary wet January weekend, totally washed out, and were impressed with the service. The food is cooked to order so it was very hot, and the bacon was lightly done as I'd asked. I hope business picks up for the place as they seem a friendly bunch & the food was excellent. Reasonably priced too.

Usual stop off point when we arrive in Whitby first time we had been here in December. Closed early only cold food available. Not as good as normal

It was colder inside than it was outside. I ate a toasted and a cup of tea. I should left and gone to costa. The serving lady never smiled of even said thank you. Probably cos she was freezing too. Terrible experience.

We ate here 2 weeks ago, My fish was too big for the plate, well cooked and accompanied by tasty chips and peas. We always eat here when we visit Whitby and would recommend it. We will be back soon.

Extraordinarily disappointed with the this cafe. Sat down for 5 mins to wait for the que to die down to answer emails before ordering breakfast. Was promptly asked to leave by the waitress who said 'I don't have space for people to be on laptops all day.' After scowling at me rather than asking if I wanted to order. A blemish on the face of a gorgeous independent community.

Called in for a quick lunch decided on a sausage sandwich and a mug of tea and paid.Should have realized what sort of ingredients they used as I left the counter,Saw 2 breakfasts being served,(obviously poor quality) then looked at a "dinner" that was served up!oh dear! glad I wasn't expected to eat it! I had asked for sliced bread as opposed to a bap. The sausages were amongst the worst I have ever eaten! Cheap rubbish! Dont know what sort they were? pork? suffice to say absolutely awful! only managed to eat half and that was because I had to cover them in brown sauce! will not be going again!Such a shame because it is about the only "normal" cafe in Whitby.

Lovely food, great staff and very caring. Went out of their way to make sure we didn't pay over the odds and went away happy.

We visited Whitby on Wednesday of last week and came across The Tiffin. We decided to go in for our lunch. The restaurant is clean and tidy and presented well. The lady behind the counter was friendly and welcoming. We put in our order and were seated in a booth. We did not have long to wait for our food, which was lovely. The bacon baps were well filled and the Tuna sandwich was very tasty. I would certainly visit this restaurant regularly if I lived up here. The toilets were clean although you had to climb stairs to reach them. On the whole a gem and very reasonably priced.

Just great breakfast food (I had poached eggs on lovely crispy toast, hubby had bacon bap). I was thirsty and was given a glass of tap water on request with absolutely no fuss too.

Very disappointed. Checked online for opening hours for a Friday and it said 8.30-5pm. Arrived about 9.15 for it not to be open until 10am. Ashame they don't keep these details updated. Eventually found somewhere else but wanted to go to Tiffin as had nice experiences previous years.

We haven't eaten here for a while but visited in August to find the full English remains great. Hot food and plenty of it.

Friendly welcoming staff, decent menu, reasonable prices, clean toilets and lovely food; we enjoyed ours. We had toasted currant tea cake & cuppa and scrambled egg & bacon on brown bread toast with a coffee - very nice indeed.

On a cold, rainy day trip to Whitby this was my choice (although not the Mrs) for lunch. It is good, straightforward, fair-priced food. And, if you like such things, there's cake too.

Always come here on a solo trip for a quick bite to eat - toastie and chips. Can’t go wrong for the price and the staff are always lovely 😊

Visited the tiffin cafe yesterday in Whitby, steve had the fish n chips , I had the jacket potato , the food came out quickly which I was a bit suspicious of due to ordering fish and yes I was right the fish was raw...

It is what it is. Pleasant enough staff, nowhere as bad as previous reviews. Two cups of tea and breakfast rolls perfectly edible.

The cafe was adequate, regarding seating & distancing between tables. The atmosphere was friendly. However, the soup we had was tinned vegetable, with no attempt to disguise it (& it wasn't completely hot). The baquette served with it was very pale, & obviously a 'long life' product. Considering the prices, we expected better. A disappointing experience, & we shan't be visiting the cafe again.

Visited several times in a mon -fri visit to glorious Whitby. Ideal sitting outside people watching on a busy street. Excellent coffee..loved the flat whites and bacon n sausage sarnies. Much soul seaching done . Thank you ..and will be back .
