When we arrived (pre-booked) the place was locked up and deserted and in the end I phoned the number for the Queen Catherine and we were told to go there to check in. We were then shown to our room in Moon House, at Three Tuns. . It smelt of dog. The whole place was grubby. The glasses were filthy. We couldn’t open the windows. The bedding was stained and threadbare, as were the towels. The mirror was dirty and smeared. The shower curtain and bin were mouldy and dirty. There were cobwebs everywhere and the floor in the bathroom was dirty. We couldn’t fill the kettle in the bathroom sink because it wouldn’t fit under the taps. Finally there was not a single hook or towel rail in the place, so we were unable to hang up our wet gear (it had rained during the day), or dry our towels. We had dinner at the Queen Catherine and although they advertise food service until 9pm, by 730 they were telling customers they had stopped food service.

After visiting this pub several times over the last few years, it’s fair to say we will never be visiting again after today’s visit. We went for a nice walk out and stopped off for some drinks and food half way. All I can say is that the service we received was disposable. We ordered a bowl of chunky chips and a pizza and after 40 minutes they arrived. The “chunky chips” were far from chunky, infact skinny fries that looked like they had been drowned in oil for hours. We took them back and explained we had ordered chunky chips and not skinny fries to which they came back and said that “the chef said we don’t do chunky chips”. We asked for a refund as it wasn’t what we ordered, to which the ‘supervisor’ slapped the money in my mams hand with no apology whatsoever. As we were leaving we unfortunately seen several tables with chunky chips on their table so we challenged the supervisor as to why we were told that you don’t do chunky chips. Her attitude was disgusting and level of customer service was non existent. She blatantly lied and said that she never said that and instead said that the kitchen didn’t have any ready at the time. After receiving the feedback that we gave, she then asked us to leave the pub and when we asked why she said “because I said so”. Genuinely never experienced customer service like this. If that’s how you are going to treat your customers then I think you will have to look few and far between to find any in future. Will definitely not be recommending this place again. Shocking

Can’t fault it! We had a lovely Sunday lunch and were made to feel very welcome despite having an inquisitive toddler with us! Nothing was too much trouble and the staff were friendly and polite. The homemade parsnip sauce served with the roast dinner was delicious. The decor is interesting with painted scenes of Osmotherly with oak paneling and subtle lighting. It was raining so we didn’t go outside in the rear garden but that looked fab too which will try as soon as summer turns up! Would recommend as they say!!

We came to the Three Tuns for Sunday lunch today and ate in the sister hotel. When we returned to the car a member of staff with a black VW had parked accross the front of us and another car and left it there. She was not working- had gone home. The other staff could not reach her and we were stuck fast for 45 minutes. Eventually we decided to call the police to have it towed - I called the police and with this news to the other staff she turned up and moved it. That is inconsiderate if not disgraceful behaviour . Thank you The Three Tons

This is a terrible pub with rude staff, terrible food and a dark a dingy bar. I sense it may be on the verge of closing down as had run of of ale (In Yorkshire!) and most items on menu.

Booked two weeks in advance at the actual pub / restaurant for our 35th wedding anniversary. Arrived on time on our anniversary to find the pub shut. When we finally found a staff member at the other pub they own the staff member was most unhelpful and rude. Really shocked and had to find another restaurant elsewhere. Absolutely disgraceful- will never go there again.

I was a little nervous after reading recent reviews. I visited here a few years ago, and it was lovely and hoped I would have the same experience when returning recently. I saw recent reviews and was concerned the place had changed, but we visited today, and I have nothing but positive feedback. Staff were friendly and welcomed us. They welcomed our dogs and were very helpful and personable. The food was good, the service was great and the pub itself is lovely! I suppose it depends on what you want but we are a couple who like a walk with food and drinks afterwards, no complaints at all. Very happy customers 😀

A very disappointing experience. No atmosphere at all. Place was empty and now I understand why? The lady that was serving was very rude. We felt like she couldn’t wait for us to leave the place. My friend was still reading the menu, she grabbed it without even asking if my friend had finished looking. We were having soup, I haven’t finished mine, she started clearing up the table. I had to grab my bowl away from her. It’s ashamed cos we had an enjoyable walk at the reservoir and thought we get sheltered and have some comport food but didn’t feel welcome at all. Would never come back in this restaurant again and wouldn’t recommend it to any of my friends and family.

Probably the worst dining experience I've ever had in my life. The staff pretty much ignore you, the food took nearly an hour to arrive. It was inedible & when we complained we received a torrent of abuse & threats of physical violence. We subsequently discovered that the same man owns both the Three Tuns & the Queen Catherine Hotel & that pretty much the entire village will not go in either pub - wish we'd known this before we booked! .

This was the worst experience we have had in a hotel in years. My feeling is that they had overbooked. We initially were shown into a family room at the back of the pub. It had no hot water and had a very noisy extracted fan outside the door. The bathroom had not been cleaned. There was hair, toothpaste and dirt in the sink and shower. The toilet had not been cleaned and the floor around the toilet was really dirty with what looked like urine stains. The bed looked like it had been slept in. We complained and were moved to their sister hotel called the Queen Catherine Hotel. This hotel looked like it was closed. We were offered a double room with a shower that wasn’t working or a twin with a working shower. We chose the twin which looked like it did have clean beds but again the bathroom was really dirty. We were offered a refund but at 7pm in Osmotherley there was no other accommodation. We were walking the Cleveland Way so prior arrangements had been made for our bags to be collected from the Three Tuns. We stayed at the Queen Catherine but had to sleep with the window open as someone was smoking in an adjacent room until the early hours. The smoke was so bad all of our clothes smelt of cigarette smoke the next morning. We had to go back to the Three Tuns for breakfast which was dreadful. We could not wait to leave and would never stay there again.

The bar area and beer garden are quite nice. The place is pretty pricey which isn’t a problem if everything else is decent. However the majority of the staff are so miserable it’s quite amusing. They couldn’t even turn the channel over on the tv without the permission of the boss. Even though no one was watching the tv and it was only a terrestrial channel. I think that’s why there’s no local use this pub or their other one in the village. It’s not hard to be happy and nice to people!

We were told we had been upgraded. However, the bathroom was filthy and the shower in particular. Several of the power sockets did not work. Bed linen was stained. When this was pointed out nothing was done. The breakfast was fried with no alternative. The toilet in the bar area stunk. Dinner was adequate. The noise from the bar area could be heard in the rooms. All in all a poor experience.

Received an email from an Ashley Gavin, with a photograph of a credit card receipt for £295, for accommodation booked for 12 June 2023. Hand written on the receipt was a surname the same as ours. We have not booked any accommodation at The Three Tuns. The email was unfortunately sent to the wrong address. We used to visit before it closed a few years ago and were fans of this place. Revisited after reopening for Sunday lunch. Food was excellent, and service good. Good choice of beers as well, and average price for the area.Just one minor gripe - and it applies sadly in most places nowadays. When you are approaching a table to take an order, or bring the food, if the guests are having a conversation, please respect that and don't just break into the conversation to say what you need to say. It's not something you would do when out with friends or family, so why do staff think it's OK when working in a restaurant. It's a UK wide problem in restaurants, so this is a recommendation for training, not a complaint. We will be back - regularly !

The first big plus of the Three Tuns is, of course, the gorgeous village in which is located. There are three pubs all in the centre of the village, with the Three Tuns having a character exterior and modern interior. So if it’s a real character environment to eat in that you are looking for, this may not be quite right for you. It is the food here that is the real star. On the night we visited, they got everything right. It’s not a menu that goes on for pages, but there is something for everyone and a few blackboard specials. There are a couple of excellent vegetarian options on the menu, great news for those who are often left with just the one choice or a “fish or meat” selection. All the dishes came with some kind of vegetable or salad component so we didn’t have to order sides of vegetables. When we indicated that we didn’t want to have chips with the steak, there was no problem arranging an alternative (we were offered mash). Sirloin steak is so often disappointing, but not in this instance. Although at £25 it was considerably more expensive than other dishes on the menu, the steak was high quality and cooked to order. After such appealing mains, we couldn’t resist ordering desserts and they were equally pleasing - beautifully presented and delicious. The wine “list” was perhaps the only small disappointment - it took the form of a blackboard list of wine types (“house red” “Shiraz” “Pinot Grigio” etc) without information about the origin, vineyard etc. However when we went up to the bar to ask for more information, I was treated to a tasting of three of the wines so that I could make my selection. I really appreciated this, and the fact that while the selection was limited, all these wines were available by the glass and in a choice of small or large measures. We were able to get a Saturday night booking when we arrived in the village that afternoon - for our preferred time of 7pm. The dining area was quite empty when we arrived but filled up later. The carparks outside were all full each time, but we had no problems getting a car park just around the corner - an opportunity to stroll around more of this gorgeous village en route to dinner. Recommended.

As usual the food was delicious here. Sadly our visit was ruined by a passive aggressive waitress. We won’t be visiting again.

Absolute gold mine this place. Staff are amazing, service is fab and the food is exceptional.. I visit most weekends now. Lovely beer garden. Accomadating for dogs in the front bar and in the beer garden. I have to say I have found this place to be the friendliest pub/ restaurant in the village

Whilst on holiday camping and walking through the Osmotherley area our family of five popped into The Three Tuns just for a drink, however, once inside we were presently surprised to see such a nice clean modern looking bar and eating area that we opted to stay for lunch too. We were warmly welcomed with 2 x adults, 3 x kids and 1 x wet dog in tow. The menu felt modern and offered a pleasant change from the usual whilst retaining some of the old faithful options albeit with a minor twist. We decided to share 1 x starter between the five of us as we all opted for main meals, this arrived in no time and we felt if the mains were as good as the starter then we’re on to a winner. We weren’t disappointed the wait, quality, temperature, portions and presentation were all spot on and after dessert we were all so pleased with our impromptu dining experience that we agreed that a review should be put onto TripAdvisor. We all look forward to going again.

This is more of a restaurant than a pub but has retained a relaxed pub feel. We had two meals here whilst staying in the area and enjoyed both. Friendly and helpful staff and child friendly without being a 'family pub'. Best place for food in the village.

We visited The Three Tuns mid afternoon on a Sunday, and both decided on the beef for our main course. All the food was locally sourced and absolutely cooked to perfection! The beef was beautifully tender, the roast potatoes crunchy on the outside and soft and fluffy in the middle, homemade Yorkshire puddings and such lovely gravy! Really creamy mash potato and all served with a side plate of freshly cooked veg. So lovely and would definitely return!

We love this place and always visit here when staying in Osmotherley. I had fish and chips, which was delicious. Some fish can be greasy but this was perfect. We had a dog with us so sat in the bar area, which is nicely decorated. The beer garden is lovely but unfortunately the weather wasn’t good. Will be back again.

It has been a while since we had been to this pub, we finally remembered about it so booked a dinner for Friday night. First impression from the staff was great, big smile, helpful with the drinks, then shown to our table to decide what to have. Plenty of choice on the menu plus specials board but the young lady recommended the lamb and what a fab choice, well presented and it tasted fantastic! My wife had the sea food spaghetti which she loved too... prices were also reasonable and we can’t wait to go back, I highly recommend this pub and I don’t say that very often...!

My wife and I stayed here while walking the Cleveland Way and what a treat. With recently refurbished rooms it was a great stay - walk in shower in our room most appreciated. The food was excellent and the service from this family run team was second to none. Thoroughly recommend.

We had lunch here while on a long walk. It was just what we were after: tasty, hearty meal with prompt, friendly service and all enjoyed in a classy, quirky, Rennie Mackintosh-inspired interior. Most of the other diners were fairly smartly dressed but we still didn't feel out of place in our walking gear.

Our family loves The Three Tuns. We’ve been many times, not just for family celebrations but family get togethers too. The food is beautiful it never disappoints but what really stands out is the welcome you get. The staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome and treat you beautifully. See you in August for my birthday!

Some restaurants try to impress with presentation but forget about taste, some concentrate on local produce but plate without imagination. The Three Tuns is fortunate in having a chef who excels in both talents presenting dishes that not only look good but taste even better, Complimented by staff that are welcoming and efficient, the result is better than excellent. If only the Village could sort out its parking problem it would be almost as good as living in Kirkbymoorside!!

Living locally we use Thomas The Baker fairly often and find their rolls tasty and good value for money- their Wensleydale Cheese and chutney roll is my favourite. Staff are friendly. Would recommend.

Enjoyed our Sunday lunch only downside was the beef was a bit anemic no taste and the gravy a bit watery. But hey the chap is doing his best beef should have been cooked in gravy mix

Not a bad place to eat for a cheap meal, staff friendly, prices good, but toilets 4 miles away and tables beyond sticky.

Lovely carvery meal at Arcadia near Stokesley today. Unfortunately the inner automatic door remained open so when the outer door opened everyone in the lower floor area was subjected to cold air from outside. The two automatic doors are supposed to create an airlock to minimise heat loss so this needs fixing asap.
