We have eaten here and found the food really good unfortunately our visit today wasn't. The soup was a bowl.of chicken and peas with little fluid and a burnt breadstick. The main was terrible the pork was completely dry the beef was dry and overcooked the carrots were burnt the roast potatoes were burnt on one side and anemic on the other the gravy was spot on. The desert of sticky toffee pudding was cold and the sponge wet. Let's hope it was because we ate a bit late or just the food has gone down hill.

We spent over an hour attempting to find a pub near to Thame, one that served good quality traditional pub fare at realistic prices. We found one! The Three Horseshoes at Towersey, a welcome smile on arrival, a good comprehensive menu at sensible affordable prices and prompt service. The quality and quantity of the food was excellent. Many other pubs could learn valuable lessons from a visit there. We shall return and recommend to others, thank you Three Horseshoes.

We called in without a booking for Sunday lunch on 26th November, it was the first time we’d been there. It was early and wasn’t busy, and it’s a reasonable size anyway. The food was really good! The service was good too. It was a really cold day, so a bit chilly, but the food was that good I had to post a comment, and I don’t write many reviews! My chicken soup was outstanding, so much chicken in it. The potato and leek soup was good too. My wife had Scampi which was fine, but I was really happy with my roast beef. There was a very generous amount of beef, fairly thick cut which made for a hearty meal for a hungry chap. We hadn’t been before, but we’ll be back again!

Four of us had a long overdue meet and because Towersey is convenient for us all, we arranged to meet here again. We had a couple of drinks and food under the marquee. All perfectly acceptable, but the friendliness of the staff and their keenness to serve us in spite of the really awful weather conditions means I'll rate this place particularly highly for service. The staff didn't bat an eyelid even though they had to walk 50 yards to and from the pub to the marquee in the rain each time we wanted something. I'd also say that if pubs like this are not supported, we'll all lose out.

I can't believe this is the same place that has had good reviews! A friend and I were first bookings - 12.30 but a party of 5 had arrived a few minutes earlier. 2 people in that party had baked potato and we thought we would have the same, but they had 'run out'! Ordered a pot of tea, but they forgot the cup. Said she would get one but forgot. Eventually cup came after further request but it was very dirty with several rings inside. I ordered just a starter - calamari rings with chili dip. I think both were from the cheapest supermarket they could possibly find. Chili dip tasted just like pure vinegar and calamari was probably somewhere inside the thick, manufactured style batter. Ate 1/2. To be fair, my friend's sandwich looked 'ok' but had little flavour. On a positive note, we have agreed we will continue to laugh about this for years to come!

The Sunday roast was absolutely delicious. I had the lamb with lamb gravy, roast potatoes & vegetables and I wish I could get it that good at home. Others in our group had chicken and beef. Visited here for a family lunch today, and we sat outside. We were instantly greeted by Becky at the front door of the pub who explained how everything worked with ordering food and drinks via the app and the fact that she would bring our orders to a separate table outside (just metres away) for us to collect from. The food was great, in fact I'd given the children the choice - a 10 minute walk into Thame or an hour's walk to The Three Horseshoes. They both chose the pub (and they HATE walking anywhere!). It was the lure of the previously enjoyed homemade burger that won them over, and we weren't disappointed today. 3 of us had it and my 14 year old burger connoisseur says it was the best one he'd ever had. Praise indeed. The food was excellent but the highlight for our visit though was definitely the charming Becky. At the time, the pub was quiet (not a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday!) so we could have plenty of time to talk to her about how things are in these weird times. It was disappointing to hear that she said that some visitors would complain or put bad reviews online about the fact that they had to order their food via an app or even collect their food from a table a few metres away. Shame on those people. The pub management and staff are doing everything they can to keep us clientele safe under government-imposed restrictions. Their website homepage is clear about what to expect, as are the signs right by the front door. The staff have to do everything they can to cater for those people who (perfectly reasonably) require things to be perfectly clean, safe and sanitised - Becky was constantly cleaning and sanitising, and I'm sure the same was going on behind the scenes. All 4 of us were extremely grateful for the chance to even eat out, it was the first time in 6 months we had done so and I'm so glad we chose to eat at The Three Horseshoes. One small comment, I don't think it is/was possible to add a tip to your order via the app, we would have liked to show our appreciation to Becky and didn't want to offer cash in these cashless times. Please would you take this into account somehow.Well done to everyone involved at TTH, you deserve not only to recover but to thrive during the current challenges and beyond.

As the lady give the order to the kitchen she said to them, don't start cutting the avo, the lady doesn't want it anyhow.... with other customer's waiting behind me to be served, I left it at that as that was so not true.So when I paid our bill, no discount was offered due to exclusion of avo and secondly I was basically lied to in my face. Great place for a sun trapped garden meal as a stop off from the phoenix trail. Using the bike racks available we nipped in and picked up a local light ale plus doom bar and a menu. I opted for the board special of pulled pork bap and chips with coleslaw and he went for a chicken hunters burger with onion rings and chips then I picked up a side salad to share from a menu that was classic pub fare such as Chinese chicken curry and chips, jacket potatoes and big wedge sandwiches. Both arrived in a reasonable amount of time [so properly home cooked] and with large portions. My salad was crisp and fresh but the pulled pork lacked punch so squeezed in some BBQ sauce. His chicken burger was perfect. Menu was a bit confusing as lunch menu was partially repeated in evening menu and we had to ask what carried through and what was time limited. Also - had to go back for knife and fork and sauces which are self serve - and this would have been good to know in advance from the bar team instead of when the food was dropped off. However the whole experience was very nice and will be popping back on our next visit.

Eventually when we got served our drinks we were asked rather rudely to order our food so it could be got out of the way. We informed her that we were not going to be eating and was told that she had things to do like waiting the table that were eating and would serve us another round when she was not busy. I think this lady is in the wrong job. She was very rude and therefore we will find somewhere else to drink in future. All this was absolutely lovely, but, even if I do say so myself, I am a bit of a gravy snob, and the lamb gravy was to die for. Most definitely will be going back. Oh, and not forgetting the waitresses, who were very friendly and helpful too, This all made for a wonderful lunch out.

Booked for Sunday lunch, the food we had was of a very good standard and they do not hold back with the portions, a very homely pub with nice staff, nothing is rushed including the service but if like us you enjoy conversation with family it was ideal although other people might disagree, very reasonably priced and would have no hesitation in returning when we are in the area again I know my uncle who lives near will recommend it to others, his comment was we have found a golden nugget here.

Great location and ambience in this friendly pub close to the Phoenix Trail. The beer was average but the food was good and reasonably priced, with the chilli being particularly good.

Just had a fabulous Thai Green Curry. Freshly made with subtle, spicy flavours just the way I like it. Simply delicious and definitely worth a try.

Just had the most amazing Sunday lunch here with some friends. The food is amazing, very generous portions. The staff were very attentive and friendly! The regulars were great and one had a conversation with our little girl about her dolls who she had taken with her. What a great place!!

This is the place to go for good honest pub food. It's reasonably priced and perfectly palatable with acceptable service. Great Chips! Make sure you get down to the Three Horse Shoes on Boxing Day for their mama's play! Always a good laugh... assuming they still put it on every year.

The portions here are generous and the food was tasty with the exception of the Thai Green Chicken Curry. This was curdled and watery and apart from a sweetness (coconut I guess) had very little flavour and was certainly in no way whatsoever lime a Thai Green Curry should be. If this had been served to me I would have immediately asked for something else. However, the person who ordered it is far too good natured and made an attempt to eat some before leaving early while the rest of us were still eating. When we went to pay I did mention the curry to a member of staff who didn't really seem very interested.

Good polite and timely service. Chose dishes that could be described as British traditional favourites. Consistently good in every way.

Spur of the moment visit to this traditional pub in Towersey, not actually in Thame as listed but in Towersey a mile or so away. Didn't seem to have a wide range of beers, but the light pale draught ale that I had (very sorry, forgot its name) was very flavourful, apparently due to the Australian hops. There was an extensive and reasonably priced menu, from which my wife chose the scampi tails and chips. I opted for a daily special of liver, bacon, onions and gravy with mashed potatoes. My wife's portion was ample and well cooked, but my enormous bowl of traditional old fashioned liver & bacon was absolutely superb and HUGE.Overall, not the prettiest of pubs inside, but they have a lot going for them. They're a couple of hundred yards from the Phoenix Walking & Cycling Trail and they have a large beer garden. They also appear to host the local Morris Dancers group. Plenty to like about this place.

Fantastic evening had by all Always looking for places to eat half way between Oxford and Wycombe and we found this gem. Very warm atmosphere and polite staff. The menu has a bit of everything and plenty of choice for children too. The food was fantastic, really good sized portions, only half of our party had room for pudding. We will definitely be returning and would recommend it to anybody

Booked a farewell lunch for a colleague that was leaving our company. Booked a table in advance and confirmed the food orders from the lunch menu on the website. The staff were totally helpful in advance and on the day. The service was impeccable and the food arrived for all in a timely manner. All guests remarked on the quality and value that they had enjoyed. Nice drinks, pretty location, couldn't be better in my opinion.

We arranged to meet my son-in-law and his family there for lunch. The food was acceptable pub food, but nothing remarkable. There was plenty of room for our group of 6, including 2 young children. The service was good, and the manager / owner took time to talk with us. The staff made a special effort for the children. It suited our purpose.

What a lovely pub. Staff friendly, good beers, fast service and delicious food in hearty portions. I really enjoyed the Southern Fried Chicken in a Bun served with Chunky Chips and Salad. Traditional décor and quiet village location but just a stone's throw from busy Thame. Great place to chill out and relax.

Thank you to the Abingdon Arms for their kindness to my Dad Colin in life and for his wake today. We had such a happy party and he would have loved it. Whiskey flowed, the food was delicious and the staff so kind. We can't recommend it highly enough.
