Good food, friendly service, and a decent selection of reasonably-priced beer. It would perhaps be nice to see a few more craft beers available rather than just the traditional cask offerings. Siren's Lumina or Double-Barrelled's Kitchen Disco would be great, for example.

Food was awful and very pricey for what we got. Ordered a gluten free Hawaiian pizza ciabatta and it came in a very small brown roll that you would get in a kids menus with one slice of ham and one small chunk of pineapple for £7, it was ridiculous. I also ordered a margarita pizza ciabatta for my kids and I to share and again this came on a very small white ciabatta roll, all it had on it was a bit of tomato paste, red onion and hardly any cheese for £6, definitely not enough for 2 small kids and myself at all by any means at all. Maybe they should have just said ciabatta rolls and not pizza ciabatta as I thought it was pizzas made out of ciabatta dough. Very disappointed. .

Lovely old pub with nice beer garden. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful - both during the booking process and once we arrived. We were a group of eight that had an early dinner here for my birthday after going on a nearby hike. The pub couldn't have been more accommodating. Food was great with a lots of different options - we had a wide variety of paellas, pizzas and fish and chips and everyone was really happy with their choices. I'd definitely come here again if back in Goring (which is also a lovely place).

Dropped in to a deserted pub at 5:00pm to ask whether we needed to book a table for the evening. ‘No, it’s quiet tonight’ we were told. Turned up 90 mins later to find the place packed! The wedding party booked for the outside area had decided to move inside-hardly surprising given the weather forecast. Disappointing as we had heard good things about the food.

Unfortunately a disappointment. The service was very friendly but unfortunately the food was very bad. Had it not been for being very hungry after a 30k hike, I would have not eaten it. The calamari rings were probably amongst the worst I've ever had. No taste and pretty sure they were not fresh. The burger was ok though. Edit: after leaving this review I got a very unpleasant response about how badly this review impacts the business. Wow! You serve bad food and you want me to be positive about it?! Ok, so here's my updated review: avoid this place. Go to the pub around the corner. If you think my response is harsh, just have a look at some of the other responses that dared to criticize things. If you can't take customer feedback, find a new profession. I know what I'm talking about. I've been in this industry for over 20 years. Your response is embarrassing!

We spent a Saturday afternoon here after a walk with a group of friends. Lovely staff and nice atmosphere in the pub but the food sadly let it down. In our group we'd ordered a mixture of paellas, burgers and ciabattas. Decent chips but other than that all the food was bland and lacking flavour. For the high prices we were expecting much better, especially the £15 burgers which had no sauce or fillings and the bun was even stale. I would still definitely recommend this pub for a nice drink in the beer garden.

Met my son for lunch and swapped Xmas gifts. Had trouble with a public parking meter at the back of the pub, eventually solved by telephoning. Staff were exceptionally nice, and pub has great real ale options as a Brakspear house. (Local brewery) it has a reasonable lunch menu Inc vegan/veggie options. Lunch also has a specials board toasted paninis and jacket spuds. My other half had garlic mushrooms as a light lunch, and I had cheese and onion panini. The panini was OK but nothing special. Not much cheese and somewhat dry. My ao had ham gg and chips which looked delicious. All in all 4 ot of five is a good score for what is a nice casual place to visit but I've tasted better food

A wonderful pub! It has an oldie charm feel, the staff are friendly and the food is amazing! It was our second visit and it didn’t disappoint. Freshly cooked fish, with great chips (which a lot of places fail to cook a great chip). Alongside a delicious Pinot noir that didn’t shock us on price. The puddings are presented on a chalk board at your table; homemade proper British puds - sticky toffee, chocolate brownie, bread and butter etc. It is worth a visit to this place!

We regulary visit Goring and always go to the Catherine Wheel for lunch as in the past it has been excellent. Today however was not a good experience. No milk for teas or coffees and no suggestion thst a member of staff would go to the local grocers to get some. Toasted ciabattas , not toasted and very stoggy. Bacon burnt and ham in large chunks and very fatty. Crisps tasted stale and the salad had no dressing. The staff are friendly, but come on Catherine Wheel up your game or we wont be coming back

This is a pub from my childhood. I spent many hours playing in the garden and feeling very welcome. The chap who served us was nice. First... The pizza was nice. The burger was bland. The scampi was lots of air and little scampi. The calamari was not even eaten. The chips were too salty. The chips where over fried like they had been left in the fryer and fried again. All in all the good was not worth the £52 spent (not including drinks)! How do you get fried food so wrong! We told the waiter and you would have though a manager would have come out. Nope! Such a shame, but in a village with so many pubs, I would go somewhere else.

Four of us visited The Catherine Wheel at 6pm on a very sunny Saturday. Choosing to sit outside in the beer garden to the rear, we were lucky enough to find a bench to sit at. We ordered a couple of drinks at the bar, the prices and range were reasonable, and out in the garden, the chef had the stone pizza oven on the go. We ordered 4 pizzas (marguerita, pepperoni (x2) and vegetarian) with a 20-min wait, and they were delicious. Just prior to the arrival of 4 friends, another bench became available (lucky us!) and we joined them together to form a table for 8. The service was prompt, friendly and attentive, which is what you want from a good pub. All-in-all, an excellent experience at The Catherine Wheel. These things don't come automatically, so kudos to the owners and staff for their great work.

Well what can I say …. Sadly a disappointing experience here today. May be it was an off day for them but service was very slow, food was substandard and overpriced, and some of the staff had a less than accommodating attitude. Eventually they remedied our bill to an acceptable level but overall we were very disappointed by our experience here. One female member of staff was very apologetic and took remedial action. I really like this pub and generally can’t fault it - it’s a lovely old building, staff are always friendly and I rate their food very highly. It’s a rare example of a genuinely nice and human pub. I have however twice in a short period of time now had the experience of turning up for food at a time listed on their website as being open for this and found the kitchen closed. While I understand that occasionally this must be unavoidable with the best will in the world, it doesn’t leave a great impression when this happens more than once in a short period of time and ultimately just sends custom elsewhere. A shame as I very much want to get them my money!

After many years of avoiding eating at this pub we were enticed by the fact that they were serving Spanish Tapas cooked by a Spanish Chef. Inspite of the mixed reviews seen on Tripadvisor, we decided to give it a go. The range of Tapas was limited and two were not available. The 3 we chose lacked flavour, and consequently we didn’t proceed to order our main meal. The one positive is that we had a waitress who was attentive.

Extensive lunchtime menu typical pub fare although tapas also available. Food good. General service good but annoying that we couldn't have a tab as we were sitting outside. Which meant trips back to the bar for drinks. If there's one thing we learned during COVID is that it is possible for this country's bars and pubs to do proper table service inside and OUT.

As we expected the prior review we would like to clarify the events that occurred. We first noticed you when you appeared to be a little tipsy and had fallen over grazing your arm, we immediately responded by issuing first aid and giving you a plaster. The next interaction we had was when we temporarily shut the pup to clean the toilets and bar, you decided to rip the sign of the door and pound the door to gain our attention. When asked what the issue was you proceeded to rant and rave about wanting to use the lavatory, when the manager confronted you about your rudeness and suggested a change in your tone and stop abusing the staff. At this point a young lady politely asked to enter the pub to use the lavatories, which had now been cleaned, and was gladly let in… After this fact you the proceeded to verbally abuse the manager even further, upon when he politely asked if you’d like to use the lavatory which you proceeded to enter and missed the urinals and judging but the footprints soaked your shoes. Good luck drying your shoes out sir.

Pub is much bigger than it appears, there is a separate building to the rear and a large beer garden. Lovely atmosphere and comfortable to spend some time in. Great pints on tap. Had the tikka masala to eat….could be the best pub curry I’ve ever had!! Tasted fresh and ‘clean’ - really impressed. Prices seemed on a par with those in the local area - not exactly a bargain, but my meal was worth every penny!
