The Old Fisherman in South Oxfordshire

Stopped for a hot chocolate today. The welcome was amazing and the bar staff helped me put my drink on my table. Was really warm welcomed and the pub was lovely. Definitely I'll be coming back when I'm back up in the area. 😊

Food appalling. Service slapdash. No atmosphere. A Tuesday lunchtime. Won't be going back.

Excellent meal and drinks, quick little one night stop over in the local village. Lucky to be blessed with such an amazing local pub. Staff where amazing and very accommodating and even gave us a few suggestions on what to do the next day as we had a few hours to burn! Would highly recommend.

Stayed here for a few nights in our motorhome, everywhere locally was flooded or full and they kindly allowed to park in the lower car park, can't thank them enough for this. Had a lovely evening of food and drinks in our large family group.

The best thing about this place is the stunning river and scenery. Children’s play area is good and lots of things to do inside for children.

One of our favourite pubs when we lived in Thame, just visiting from Spain now and it's still exactly same!

Great Sunday roast with family to celebrate Mother's day. All staff made us feel very welcome especially Darren. We'll be going back.

Sadly this was a very poor Sunday ‘roast’. It’s really unacceptable to serve frozen ‘roast’ potatoes with almost no potato inside the weird skin. (5 pieces about 2cm square) Beef was 2 tiny thin slices. Quantity of veg was also terrible. Quite the worst I’ve had.

We arrived at midday and found the place virtually empty. The staff explained that they had been affected by local flooding in recent days and this had kept people away. We had a table by the window from where we could watch vehicles navigating the floodwater - some drivers being bolder than others! The food we had was nicely cooked and well presented and the service was prompt and friendly. Totally satisfied with our experience at the Old Fisherman.

First time at this lovely characterful pub and restaurant. The staff couldn't do more for us and the steak I had is one of the best cooked I have had in a long time. Plus my wife was over the moon with her dessert. Can't wait to come back again

Fish and chips was around half a portion , place was a bit tired and grubby . Shame as it's a nice location.

Iv never met more lovely people in my life, I broke down in the flood and they brought me welly’s to get out, tried calling around to get me towed out and calmed me down even tried to help me jump start my car back up, I can’t thank them enough for everything they did for me when I am a stranger to them, I will be coming back in the future for more happy circumstances! Haha

Lovely little countryside pub with amazing staff and family atmosphere. Special thanks to chef Jamie who made effort ringing us this morning and guiding us how to get to the pub as the road was flooded.

Me and my wife came in food dinner with the kids and the food was amazing and the staff was very nice we had the lam and fish and chips they were very nice and the gravy was just the best with the lam. we all come to you lot for food as its easy to get to and good for the money. we will see u next week.

We came here on Friday why’s round the area for lunch lovely pub by the river. Staff friendly and helpful . We had the lasagne and seabase risotto as our main dishes both we have again very nice dishes to have we both will come back here to eat very soon

Very friendly and accommodating. The manager(ess), was lovely and attentive. Food came quickly, was piping hot, well presented and tasty. Well done chef! Definately visit again.

Lovely food, friendly staff. Service was a little slow for a mostly empty pub but it is just after Christmas so maybe low staffing but then we weren't in a hurry and had a great time. Definitely would go again. Just been again after six years and much the same, good food and pedestrian service but we were there to enjoy ourselves and in no hurry, so no problem.

Had a nice snack lunch , ciabatta with chicken, avocado and bacon, very tasty. Very friendly staff. They were however short staffed so a long wait for our food, and I guess they had a temporary member of staff, a gentleman who took my plate away before I'd even finished and before I could say anything. This wouldn't deter me from going back . Lovely setting..

This lovely old pub on the banks of the river Thame is a great place to meet up and enjoy the views. Friendly and helpful staff.

Having looked at all the positive reviews, I was very disappointed when I arrived at the pub at lunchtime to meet a friend. The pub is in an idyllic spot but the interior did not live up to this. The decor and furniture in the conservatory where we were seated looking very tired, the music intrusive and the menus grubby. This did not bode well for the food. We each ordered a steak ciabatta and, despite the menu promising that the meat would be pink, it was very well cooked and covered with mustard, which I do not like. If I had known this (from the menu), I would have ordered something else. There was hardly anyone else in the pub which, for a Friday lunchtime, says a lot. Despite all this the barman was friendly and brought the drinks on time. However, the overall experience was not good and I'm afraid neither my friend nor I will be back.

Food was incredibly bad. Don't want to think about it. Lukewarm, no taste, undercooked frozen peas, cold chips replaced but still tasteless, pasta so soggy it left deposits on the fork, completely dried-out piece of lemon etc. Can't believe any of the positive reviews. Sorry.

Really great atmosphere, very helpful and kinda staff. Food tasted delicious, especially the hunters chicken!

We haven't been there for a while but have been recommended to try a couple of people who have visited recently. Met up with some friends visiting the country for lunch but not able to order or even have a drink as their till and card systems were down. Offered to pay cash but this was not an option. Shame the staff were very welcoming and appologetic.

Great different location and good beer

Lovely food had a main and a starter both were piping hot and tasted great, The service cannot be faulted staff were really friendly and attentive. The restaurant is located in a quaint village location although today. Was rainy still looked so pretty,

Service a little slow but we were a group of 20 and my burger was incredible. Great festive atmosphere and host was quite the personality.

Absolutely love coming here! The staff, Kelly and Darren are just so friendly and are the most accommodating and fun bunch! The food is always on point with pub classics and some great new additions for winter. The sharing platter is our fav! Music on always playing joyful tunes and it’s warm and cosy! The bad reviews are pretty unfair when they have been very short staffed and all they do is try their best!

We had a large group Christmas lunch today and it was fabulous. The team are so warm and friendly, made us feel so welcome and even entertained us with magic tricks. Food was good, ambiance was cosy, what more do you need?

Wonder service very quick and friendly staff

A really nice place to meet share a meal or just go for a pint! The river had flooded last time I went there (Sunday roast). I was on my own and enjoyed the walk in the autumn sunshine from where I had to leave my car.

Often pop in for an after work beer, friendly atmosphere and a nice pint. Always greeted with a smile

We booked with friends for lunch, we were greeted by a very friendly lady and shown to our table, this is where it all went downhill. We were all very disappointed with the roasts that we had all ordered. My husband had the Trio of roasts , if that's what you could call it ! We ordered extra veg and extra gravy between four of us. we were given just one very small sauce pot of gravy as our extra between us, as for the extra veg which was two slices of carrot, two slices of parsnip and three very small pieces of broccoli again to share between four people. The meals were very small with what we can only assume were frozen potatoes. We left feeling hungry and extremely disappointed with the food. We will not be returning which is sad because what a location ! If the food could be up to standard it would be a lovely place to dine out.

Visited for Sunday roast, opted for the Turkey we had a lovely meal, portions are not massive but equally it was very nice and there is the option to order sides and extras :) Staff are really friendly and helpful, and the pub is dog friendly which is so nice to be able to have an afternoon out and take the dog along too! He also enjoyed his visit, will definitely return.

The menu was very varied with some great pub classics on the menu all reasonably priced. The staff were extremely courteous and friendly. Food was delivered in a timely manner and very hot.

John, you have done it again the food was amazing and even Tho there was a lot of table u got it out fast on your own. we highly recommend. this place just be patient as they are short on staff but that do make your day. see you soon.

Looked a friendly place so stopped today and popped in. Looks fine had atmosphere with people sitting at tables. Waiter came up straight away explained the menu to us. The menu was a good selection of food Darren the waiter was friendly.. Nice views of river. Enjoyed what we had. Will visit again David Pauline

We were staying locally for my birthday and decided to book a table for our evening meal. From the moment we arrived the experience was brilliant. Very welcoming waiter and a fantastic new menu made for a lovely evening. We live an hour away but will certainly be returning again. Lovely location with great food 👌🏻

Went for a roast dinner and it was delicious. Vibe and the workers were very nice and quick on their feet. Definitely coming back.

My two friends and I went there for lunch today, and the food was fantastic, Darren the manager was so amazingly helpful, and friendly, and so were the rest of his staff. All three of us definitely gave , not only the food, which was 10/10, but the staff too. So lucky that we have The Old Fisherman, literally down the road from us. Thank you for such lovely food!!!!!

We visited for Sunday lunch, 7 of us including 2 children. The staff were friendly and attentive and the location was excellent, but the food was really bad. Five of us had roasts, turkey, pork and beef, and all the meat was dry, the cabbage and cauliflower cheese were impossible to tell apart, both watery and overcooked and the carrots were rock hard. There was also hardly any veg there. I had steak, asked for it to be cooked medium and it was really well done and tough. The salad that accompanied the steak was well past its best, I would have been throwing it away if it had been in my fridge, not serving it up to a paying customer. We probably should have complained but we were there for a family birthday and I think complaining would have meant leaving as none of us had a good meal so we wouldn’t have wanted to choose other options as there was nothing to suggest any other options would be any better. We felt in this instance being together was more important than the food, but I felt I had to share as I really wouldn’t recommend eating there.

I had driven past this pleasant looking pub on a number of occasions and finally ventured over.Having made a booking for Saturday 13.45 we drove for around an hour to get here only to be greeted by the immortal line "over an hour wait for food".These were the only words spoken to us whilst we were in the place.Given the warm welcome, and the fact that I didn't want my lunch at 3pm we went elsewhere.Seemingly another company willing to lose business by not employing enough staff.

My husband and I wanted a quiet dinner for two. This is the second occasion we have visited The Old Fisherman in recent months and we were astounded at the huge improvement in the standard of service and the quality of the food. The current management and chef have a high level of aspiration. My sea bass was absolutely perfect! This pub offers the mini dessert and coffee that my husband and I really enjoy. The Bakewell Tart is magnificent.

The food at the old fisherman was very good, good variety of food and drinks so plenty to choose from. Staff very friendly and welcoming, offering a range of recommendations. The managers were very helpful in helping me choose what dish I went for. Would definitely come back.

It's ok is all anyone could say. Apart from a mad lot of mini owners who tried to park in a full car park. About 16 of em, crazy.

Atmosphere was quiet due to the time that I went. Food was very nice and the service was Tip-Top by the manager. This manager knew his stuff about everything including the Wine and what it would go best with food. Very tidy place, personally I think this would be a beautiful place in the sunshine as the outside seating is fantastic. Lunchtime would definitely be a great idea to take someone or even the family and friends. Wheelchair accessibility with plenty of parking available too. Quite a large premises so plenty of space and tables not to close to eachother. For that I would give it 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

We came across this place on the way back from taking our little one and dog our. There is a cracking little playground for the children and a river for the dog to jump in. That would usually be enough for me but on top...

Food and service excellent, was very quiet when we went, but that was 2pm in afternoon, hence just 3 stars for atmosphere.

We booked a table for lunch and arrive don time. None of the staff acknowledged we were there and when I approached one staff member she barely acknowledged us. It was obvious they didn’t care. So we left and went to KFC instead.

Had a lovely graduation meal on a very hot day, had limited staff due to a road closure but still managed to provide excellent service for me and my family. Always a lovely atmosphere and a nice escape from the busy city of Oxford

Food was pretty bad. The fryers were broken, so some of the menu unavailable. Seems to be an ongoing issue. Staff were very apologetic. Setting is lovely, it's a shame it seems to have been left to deteriorate by the chain.

Lovely setting by a babbling Brook. Seating outside available but mithered by wasps! The staff were pleasant the pub itself is tired and needs a good lick of paint. Couldn't fulfill much of menu as fryers broken so food wasn't that good on our visit today. Menu Limited

Just had a drink next to the stream, nice and peaceful.

Clearly not their day with equipment and staff issues but still with few customers things could have been different.

Just popped out for a pint and it was okay, but not busy. Not too much choice in the pump for ales and so settled for a guiness.

Nice location. Awful service, terrible food. Sausages in sausage and mash taste like this cheap ones from macro or fun fairs. Mash potato had congealed into blobs of tasteless dough.

Lovely to sit outside and enjoy the fabulous weather. We all had the Salmon Fishcake Florentine. Food and service really good. Will definitely be back AGAIN.

19th July 2023 Took the grandchildren over for dinner only to find the kitchen closed! Apparently they have staffing issues, which I understand, but there was no notice anywhere to warn us of that so, after a few minutes in the play area we were more than ready for a meal we couldn't have until the kitchen opened half an hour later. That would have been way too late for the kids so by the time we got home to cobble food together, we had 2 very hungry, very grumpy little girls on our hands. Another thing to note is the play area is very dangerous for young kids. 8th July 2023 Spur of the moment visit for dinner this evening and it was lovely! Haven't been here since the pandemic so I'm sure we'll become regulars again now.

Lovely, lazy riverside meal with my husband and our dog. Limited better options, but the food was delicious. We sat outside, under a shade. There's a play area for kids, water bowl for the dog, and, of course, the river.

This pub is in a lovely location, right by the River Thame, it has a lovely garden which looks great for a cold beer in the sun. We visited for lunch, the pub itself is very tired and in desperate need of a refurb. Paint...

Went last week for a meal outside. Super friendly, good food and good prices. We went on a whim as was a nice sunny night and felt very welcomed.

Had several meals Jan and Feb always brilliant service and food. We have been to a lot of Greene King Pubs and this is one of the best. Fantastic staff make the place great and memorable.

It's a nice place in a nice setting. Unfortunately on this occasion half the menu wasn't available which was annoying. It was a quiet evening but a table with children were letting them run around with a member of staff encouraging the kids. Very irritating...
