What a weird place. Perfectly decent pub but the staff became extremely hostile when it was closing time. We left, as requested, and were simply waiting outside on the pavement for our taxi, not making a noise, when we had to contend with a number of their staff being very aggressive trying to move us on. Apparently they don’t understand they don’t own the pavement. Out of nowhere, someone from above threw a glass of water at us. They stated they were not responsible. Would not go there again. Gave the impression something dodgy was going on and they wanted us out of the way.

We visited this venue with a group of friends. There was s good variety of drinks but a limited food menu. Items could be ordered via the iPad on the table if you set up a tab which was a great touch. Food was expensive for the amount provided and ribs were not great quality. Would expect better for the price. Pub is dog friendly however and the staff brought a bowl of water over for the dog to which was a nice touch. Unfortunately our visit was cut a little short by the loudness of the group on the table next to us who didn't seem to appreciate that there were other people in the pub. For drinks I would recommend the venue, not so much for food which is limited in selection and expensive for what you get.

Food was pretty good and I love that this is a central London pub that's dog friendly. At certain tables you can even order drinks and food without having to leave the table (although dangerous that it's so easy to drink!). If you're drinking beer - there's a tap you simply pour yourself. However the upstairs is incredibly loud when busy. The pub would benefit from more sound-absorbing material upstairs as it was hard to hear the rest of our party.

Came here for drinks / dinner with friends. The tables have a ‘tablet’ on them so you can order your own food. Problem is that it’s stuck in the middle of the table and it feels as though it’s right in the way - hard to share ‘nibbles’ with it being right in the middle, and feels like a barrier to the people the other side of it. It also wasn’t clear that we had ordered or whether someone was going to come up and confirm. And one meal was brought up much quicker than the others which wasn’t very good. I ordered the pork tacos - they came smothered in so much sauce, it totally overpowered the taste of the meat.

Although this could be a great pub it is severely let down by the moody staff. The burgers and drinks are good, although one of our group was given the peanut butter burger and told it was a bacon cheese burger. Luckily the person in question does not have a nut allergy!.. They also need to sort out the dirty toilets. Interesting a sign in the toilets sums up the ambience - Customers pi$$ here, non-customers pi$$ off. Sort out the attitude and I would give the Thirsty Bear 4 or even 5 stars

I love the general atmosphere and being able to pull your own pints but I really feel the service let this venue down. The continental chap running the bar upstairs for our company event just didn't have the customer skills one expects in a London bar. His not so clear diction when handing out orders resulted in a mixup and one lady receiving a hot-dog without the right toppings; when made aware of the issue, we were quite rudely told "There is nothing I can do" and even continued to act like he was moving mountains when I offered to pay for the toppings. Is the poor opinion of two employees who may be deciding on venues in the future really worth the likely 40p real cost of rectifying this issue?

This is a traditional type English Pub, sort of off the beaten path but just a few blocks from the river. I was there on a Friday night around 8pm and it was loud and crowded but that was expected for the time of day. We had no trouble finding a table. You order at the bar and they bring the food to the table. It appears to be mostly locals which is a good sign. I had the fish and chips and it came on a large wooden board with a cup of mushy peas and salad and everything was amazingly tasty and very large portions. It was really really good! The potatoes are large quarter chunks with the skins attached and nicely seasoned. My co-worker had a Caesar salad with grilled chicken and he said it was really good also.

I'd read a review of The Thirsty Bear in a blog called hamburgerme and my wife and I popped in as we were passing. We got swift, friendly service and the food arrived quickly and was excellent. We didn't bother with the self service concept as it was a quiet Tuesday afternoon. I'd imagine it gets really busy and there's not a huge amount of room in the venue from what I saw but from the food I had in front of me and the service I got I would definitely go back. Atrocious customer service, never go! Party of 10 of us booked >2 weeks in advance for a table at 7.30pm for dinner. Turned up and they forced us to sit in a line looking at a wall. How can you expect to eat dinner with friends when you have 40cm for your plate and then a wall to face. Their excuse "We don't reserve you a table, only a space". Decided to leave and they wanted to charge us for 2 drinks that we'd started pouring but never drank. Took three of us 45 minutes arguing with their two managers to finally get them to waive £8.28. Luckily there is a Nandos round the corner so you can always be satisfied with some cheekay wings and a beer.

Booked a table more than two weeks ago and when we arrived we found our table for 10 people was bar stools facing a brick wall. We complained and were told when you book you are "guaranteed a space, not a table" and that next time (as if there would be a next time) we should specify that we want an actual table! They did however let us know that there are 5 or 6 great restaurants next door so would recommended going there if you're in the area!

We visited this place for lunch on a Monday. I had seen it online and it looked interesting but I was looking at it as a drinking hole not an eatery. Very pleased we popped in as they had lunch for a tenner on a deal so we thought why not? We both ordered a cheeseburger which came with a drink for ten quid. The burger's were delicious! They came with thick cut chips and the presentation was lovely. The burger was meaty and tasty the bun thankfully NOT toasted which I hate... But again the chips were awesome! Big thumbs up for the chips! All in all A + for the meal and the cost we were very happy! Very nice barman who we chatted too for a bit. Me and my partner discussed the You Tube video we'd seen of an American bloke called "Atlas" aka Randy Santel doing a good challenge in The Thirsty Bear which was very entertaining. If you get a chance visit this place for a burger. We will go back for food and also to check out the pour your own pint which looks fun.

£4.60 for a pint of bitter, where did that come from? Loads of TV's upstairs and downstairs, but rather disappointingly they cannot split the signal and watch two different stations at once! So although they have Sky and BT Sport advertised, you have to "suffer" Gillingham V Scunthorpe if someone wants that, rather than Leicester V Bath rugby. With all those TV's they really should be able to give some choice, nobody was watching the TV's downstairs but the channel couldn't be changed.

Came here with a large party of people early evening. The online booking system worked well and we quickly got to grips with ordering drinks and food from our on-table ipad. The atmosphere was lively, pretty busy with an indie vibe about the place. The waitresses behind the bar were excellent and very fast in bringing drinks to our table which boded well for the main event: the burgers. I'd been told by a friend that they were excellent which was why we had chosen to come here in the first place. And at £9.95 for the basic one I had high hopes. But alas the meat quality really let it down and it failed to live up to my friends promise. Everything else about our experience was good however and everyone had an enjoyable time here. Just a shame about the meat.

I was there on Saturday with a friend for about an hour. As a local resident I have been going to this pub for over three years and it used to be a lovely place but unfortunately it changes it's staff faster than it changes it's toilet paper and the new management and security are dreadful. The 'bouncer' shouted at me, threatened me for no reason other than the fact that we used to be friends and no longer are. He forced me outside without my coat or handbag where I waited for half an hour until finally my friends convinced the manager to come out and I was given back my stuff. I was frozen, the manager said and did nothing. I am disgusted that such behaviour is allowed in an establishment in central London. Disgusted!!!

This is a pub near Blackfriars Bridge which has a novel ordering method - most tables have a tablet in the middle and you can order drinks, food, snacks, even cigarettes to your table. It is very handy as you dont have to keep getting up to go to the bar for more drinks. There are even a couple of beers on tap linked to the tablet so you can pull your pints yourself! You set up a tab with your card and pay at the end.I have been before and this is a great concept and good fun.We highly recommend the Build a Burger option! The burgers are delicious and portions are big. The staff were helpful and friendly and the food didn't take that long to come out and tasted great. The problem we had was our tablet was not working well, we kept trying to order drinks, half the drinks on the menu were sold out, and it kept randomly chucking us out of the programme. We would have switched tables, but the tablets there were unplugged. Perhaps the IT behind it needs further investment? At the end of the evening, when we went to settle up, their card machine wasn't working so we had to trek out to find a card machine (finally found one, but it charges). However, the staff were very apologetic and they did make amends. When we visited a year or two ago, all was working smoothly and I couldn't recommend this place enough. Perhaps some investment is needed to sort out the technical issues, or perhaps we caught them on a bad night?Still, the burgers are great and the novelty ipad style ordering concept makes it a change from other pubs.

This is a burger restaurant and pub. You can choose the burgers from a menu on an iPad, e.g. 8oz or 16oz beef, cheeses and pickles as extras. I had the venison burger which was cooked to medium rare. It was juicy and went very well with the stilton I added as a cheese. Chips were delicious. For the health conscious, there is a no-bun option for the burger and a salad substition for chips. There is also a tap at the table for Sagres. The iPad+tap tables have to be reserved online. The barstaff was helpful and very efficient in bringing extra drinks (practically the moment we ordered it from the iPad) and it was a busy Saturday night! Fun night out with friends into hearty food. I would say the clientele was mostly men. The atmosphere is similar to a sports bar. (They do show matches here.) Our food and moderate amount of beer came to 25 pounds per head. Good value and the gadgets kept us occupied!

This is the second time we have been here. The burgers are fantastic and you can build your own. Food is good value and not complicated and portions are good. No problem with food at all. The concept on some of the tables is that you have an I pad from which you place all your orders. It didn't work on our previous visit but worked fine this time. You can also access the juke box from it too, so no energy needed other than toilet breaks. The service via this ordering system was very quick and efficient. It's an interesting concept but although staff are pleasant, it lacks an feel of overall floor management. It is quite a fun place and can get noisy so don't come for a romantic dinner!

I've been to this pub a few times, but not for a while so thought would give it another try. We were seated at one of the new high tables upstairs, and had a tab card brought to us really quickly by one of the bar staff, who gave us a walk through in how to use the I-pad system. This was helpful as a few people in the group hadn't been to the Thirsty Bear before, so they were able to start building their own burgers straight away. As always there was a huge choice of tasty options to pick from, and when after a fair amount of deliberation on what to go for, our 4 burgers arrived together we weren't disappointed. Home cooked chunky chips were hot and crisp, and the burgers succulent and delicious (I would recommend the beef burger topped with Monterey Jack, dill pickle and pulled pork, very tasty). Having read some of the recent reviews on this place, I'm not sure why the comments on the food have varied so much. This is about my 5th trip here, and every time the burgers have been amazing (far better than Byron, which I also went to recently). If I had any criticism it would be that the ketchup and mayo came in little sachets on the side of the board, which cheapened the presentation a bit perhaps, but besides that we had a great night, fab food, and didn't have to get up once as drinks arrived so quickly! Great place, will be coming back.

We thought won't this be great, a pub just up the street this could be our go to pub while we are in london for 2 weeks? or maybe not. I don't know if this is just how the servers are in London but what a bunch of sourpusses. What ever happened to greeting customers in a friendly manner or don't we do that here. Needless to say we have been here for a week and have not returned and are still looking for a friendly pub.

Came down with a group for a casual afterwork bite to eat with a few beers. Booked a table and had a good night. The iPad thing is a little gimmicky at first but does actually work and is a little different. I can imagine some people could get very carried away! The selection of beers is good, the prices very reasonable for a London bar, and the food wasn't mind blowing but I've had worse... although given the burgers tend to be their main sell they need better quality beef and more generous portions. Finally the staff were friendly, making it overall an OK place to visit and I reckon we'll be back in the future!

Whilst down in London for a short stay I tried a few of the local public houses and bars close to my hotel, this was my second port of call, and I can tell you right now I will never step foot inside the place againAsked for a pint of Guinness, the person behind the bar started pouring it, and it ran out about a third of the way, to which I was advised 'no more of this you'll have to have something else because I'm not able to change a barrel', Soo I asked for a pint of Dooms Bar (Ale) she poured it, and it was half Ale and half Froth so I asked her to top it up, she did then slammed the glass downI asked for a menu, I got a piece of paper attached to a clipboard, so didn't botherThere was music on upstairs, which anyone who lived within a 25 mile radius could of hearRubbish

This was the 4th time I have visited the Thirsty bear and it'll probably be my last. What went wrong? The food was the drawing focus of this pub but it really is no longer worth it. A dry, overcooked and bland burger which was overprices at £15. They used to be huge and full of flavour now they are just a regular sub par burger which you could get at any value pub but for half the price. The service as usual was slow and because of the below average food no longer acceptable. And the noise was deafening. God somewhere else!!!

Third visit to this pub, but sorely disappointed. While previously the burgers had been glorious in size and quality they were now overcooked. They lacked the tastiness that had made them remarkable. And they were much, much smaller. In truth, the meal was indistinguishable from a Wetherspoons burger in all aspects apart from they suffered from inflated price. The chips were cold. Briska had been removed from the taps. Sadly this all means I will not be returning.

My friends and I came here because we wanted to try and do the Thirsty Bear Burger challenge. We didn't end up doing it but we wasn't disappointed. When you first arrive you get sat at the table with an iPad and you get build your own burger. You get a lot of options for what you want on your burger which is always good. The burger was very tasty. The chips ere very nice as well. I think this is a place that is very good. The only down sides were the furniture really needs to be changed. The tables were not the cleanest and the toilets were horrible. But on the whole my friends and i really enjoyed at and the iPad idea is very good. Something that other restaurants should do.

It's a little off the tourist trail but that in itself is a nice change. Just a short walk from Waterloo Station to one of if not the best burgers in London. The pub is part of the Robot Pub company change and their gimmick is the introduction of technology to the gastronomic experience. This electronic additions in no way deduct from the taste or cheapen the environment. Far from it. The is a terminal on each table for which you can order a cocktail, put some songs on the jukebox or order one of their outstanding burgers. On top of that the beer and cider taps are on your table and you pay by the litre. Great place to go and watch sport with your mates or just catch up with friends for a meal without having to constantly line up at the bar while the night ticks away. Great spot.

I went last Sunday for meeting people (there is a Meet up every Sunday at 6:30pm) from everywhere for speaking any kind of Language (Amazing). There are 2 floor and the first of them is totally destined for this meeting (Amazing). You can eat many British traditional dishes (i.e. hamburger + beer for £ 8!) and of course....to drink. I drank a delicious dark beer, not Guinness...go to taste it!

We visited the Thirsty Bear last year and enjoyed the experience so much we went back. The novelty of pouring your own drinks from the pumps at the table is still fun and convenient. The food is good and substantial, staff are lovely and friendly and attentive and obliging when needed. Great ambiance as before. Recommended.

We went to London to see friends this year for a short holiday;Which was lovely. we decided to go out one night for dinner and they had recommended this restaurant as they had been before and enjoyed it. The place in its self was lovely nice atmosphere food was lovely we had our 4 year old son with us who is a fussy eater and he enjoyed his meal. The staff were friendly and the manager was very pleasant and professional and made us feel very welcome. would definitely recommended this place to anyone visiting London and wanted a great night out.

Booked 2 months ago for a table with taps, which is obviously the main draw for most people here. It was a birthday so we had 7 of us and the novelty factor was what was to make the place special. Unfortunately when I turned up our table did not have taps; indeed only about half do. We just had an iPad. I asked to move. Can't. Asked for compensation. None. I even showed them the email confirming my booking for taps. Bad start. Then the burgers. We waited almost an hour and a half from ordering and then they came out two at a time in ten minute intervals and 2 were missing bits. And we repeatedly asked for cutlery which took fifteen minutes to arrive (you can't physically eat the bigger burgers without it). The burgers were very tasty though when they did arrive. And after complaining for a second time they agreed compensation.Just a shame as the premise is excellent but you'll walk away at a busy time feeling like it could be so, so, so much better.

Went there for a burger having read that the pub specialises in them. I ordered the Redneck which comes with pulled pork and mature cheddar. It came on a wooden block that was a bit old and cracked. Whilst I like the whole food on wood thing, if the boards got cracks in it I get a bit nervous about bacteria. The burger patty was well done, which was a shame as I like my burger rare and I wasn't given a choice of how it would be cooked. The brioche-style bun looked pretty, but the inside was a little hard. Not sure if this was on purpose or it was just a bit stale. Pickles inside the bun were heavy on green skin. Thick cut chips were proper nice. My colleague had deep fried Camembert cheese, which looked excellent. The seats were way too small for the table we sat on and the pub's interior was a bit dreary. Service was nice, but the lady behind the served a wrong drink first time round, which she immediately corrected. All in all, not the really inspiring burger I was hoping for. If it was cooked rare, this whole review might be more positive, but you know what it's like when something goes wrong and then you start to question everything. A bit like life really.

Every part of order was incorrect, but so hungry I ate it anyway. Burger was dry, overcooked and cold. No relish at all. Salad and bun were fine. Automated menu ordering system is a good idea but also makes it impossible to discuss menu options, so was forced to select something I didn't want. Very expensive meal for something I didn't order or want. Beer tap on table a very good idea. Would never go back.

Me gustaría volver.
