The person at the entrance asked me if I had any allergies, and I told them I did, but the black waiter with glasses who came to take my order didn't understand, so when I told him again he started swearing at me in English. The atmosphere and food in the restaurant were good, so it was a shame.

We really enjoyed our Sunday lunch at Roast. We had the beef and lamb, both of which were very good and the meat was tender. The roast potatoes were deliciously crispy and we really enjoyed the mixed vegetables too. The freshly made mint sauce with the lamb was an excellent addition. All in all, a very good roast. The restaurant is light and airy and the view is over Borough market. The entrance way is a little over the top, in my opinion, with all the floral instagram style decorations, but the inside of the restaurant is less so. The formal dining area is quite nice. Riccardo, our waiter, was charismatic and friendly making the experience even nicer. We look forward to going back.

The decor was beautiful. But unfortunately the service and food was lacking. I had the vegan afternoon tea, and all the sandwiches were underseasoned and very bland. The only good savoury bit was the sausage roll. They used cheap coconut based vegan cheese, so the cream cheese bagel wasn’t very nice and the cheese tart was inedible. The falafel was dry. They did put some apple sauce under them all, but it would have been better to have a bit more for the falafel. Although the menu said there would be clotted cream for the scone, I was given vegan butter instead which was very loose and sloppy, and a bit too buttery. If they couldn’t have cream, then having a more solid butter would have been better. The little apple tart was absolutely delicious though. Easily the star of the show. The vegan chocolate cake was very dry and dense, and I needed something sweet to cut through it such as vanilla icing or some strawberries. And it definitely needed a nice cup of tea to go with it, but unfortunately we were only given one pot of tea each and the servers didn’t come to offer us more and it was hard to catch their eye. I feel like you’re paying more for the location than the food, which is a shame because it seemed like they put thought into it but it wasn’t executed very well. As mentioned, service was lacking. We weren’t offered more tea or extra sandwiches, or even a top up of water. We were checked in on maybe once. We weren’t given a knife or spoon for the jam/cream, so had to use already used cutlery to put this on the scone. We were waiting ages for our plates to be taken away. And we had to remind the servers that we had asked for a birthday treat for two of our guests. Service charge of 12.5% was automatically added to the bill, and we reduced this to 10% (though I would have liked to reduce it to less than this considering the price). Very disappointing, I wouldn’t go back or recommend it.

I visited Roast with my mother this morning for breakfast, having previously regarded it as a reliable favourite for special occasions. Unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing, leaving us questioning whether there has been a change in ownership or management. The quality of the food has markedly declined — the poached egg arrived stone cold — and the overall standard fell far below what we once expected from Roast. Service was poor throughout: inattentive, indifferent, and lacking any genuine care for the guest experience. The dining room, once spacious and elegant, now feels cramped. Far too many tables have been crammed into the space, stripping the restaurant of its former sense of comfort and occasion. Despite ample room to spread guests out, customers were seated tightly together. Most shockingly, midway through our breakfast — at 11am on a Saturday — a member of staff began setting up a table directly beside us and proceeded to iron the tablecloth while we were still eating. This behaviour was completely unacceptable and showed a complete disregard for the dining experience. Despite our clear looks of disbelief, the staff remained oblivious. Roast once stood proudly alongside London’s best breakfast venues, easily comparable to the likes of The Wolseley. Sadly, it no longer comes close. It feels as though the restaurant has prioritised volume over quality, losing the charm, attention to detail, and professionalism that once set it apart. At £60 for breakfast for two, it offers neither value for money nor a memorable experience.

Our daughter’s 18th was a special event and was made to feel this way by the staff and their hospitality- which was wonderful. I felt like I was in different place to the hustle and bustle of Borough Market below us. The food was lovely and on the higher end but not as costly as some venues we looked at. A Perfect Dining Experience at Roast, Borough Market My family and I had the pleasure of dining at Roast in Borough Market yesterday, and I can confidently say it was one of the best meals we've ever had. From the moment we walked in, we were struck by the stunning décor — bright, elegant, and beautifully adorned with flowers, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Despite being a higher-class restaurant, the staff made us feel incredibly welcome. Their attentive and friendly service elevated the entire experience. Now, onto the food — simply outstanding. My wife and I both had the roast beef burger, and I can honestly say it was the best burger I have ever eaten. The combination of flavours was nothing short of a vibrant taste sensation. My mum ordered the Saddleback pork belly and was equally impressed, while my dad’s venison suet pudding left him wanting more — a true testament to the quality of the dishes. Thank you, Roast, for such an incredible meal. We will definitely be returning in the near future!

Had such high hopes, but this might have been the worst meal of our trip. Ordered a cocktail, and it never showed up. I guess one would assume that a 40+ dry aged roast beef would be tender, but had to saw through it. Overall taste was bland at best. Server repeatedly discussed tip despite never once coming to check on our lost drinks, meal, etc. I think they market an experience to tourists that they don’t even come close to living up to. Place looked nice, but I found myself wishing I was at the street food location I could see out the window.

We used to come here often when we lived in London and thought we would come back. Sadly gone are the cafetières of coffee (Blue Jamaican mountain was always my favourite). Waiter was unsure about GF options and said the chef asked him to ask us what to put on as replacements. GF sausage isn’t hard to find, bacon seemed cheap and streaky. No extra egg or mushrooms? Not sure why we were asked and then ignored. Butter portions were enormous however red/brown sauce portions were tiny in comparison. Was ok but sometimes you shouldn’t go back to places as they’re not the same.

Utter chaos! Made a reservation for 3pm. Arrived 10 minutes early, fair enough, table wasn't ready. But then all of the other 3pm reservations arrived. With no real waiting areas it was "Lord of the Flies" on who got a table. Hostess station were simply dreadful (especially Astor). Now, I'm not sure if that's because she's had everyone complaining at her all day long, but giving minimal (bordering on rude) answers when we asked questions when our table might be ready at 20 past 3, really wasn't helpful to anyone. We were seated at 3.25pm and we immediately ordered a bottle of Rose (Pinot or something similar). We were bought a bottle which was apparently the "only rosé" they carried. Utter bemusement ensued, only to find (at the back of the wine list) a comprehensive Rosé wine list?!? Service from that point did get better, but not receiving our mains for an hour and a quarter after being seated, it is very obvious that 10% less tables would have not only made our dining experience much nicer (we were trapped in like sardines) but it would have also made all servers life a lot easier as well. Less haste & more speed springs to mind and something I feel upper management should take under advisement. Less tables would mean happier customers & servers. Period.

We went for afternoon tea at 2.30pm on a Saturday afternoon. The food was good but wasn't anything special. We really liked the idea of having an extra savoury layer to the afternoon tea. However the atmosphere was very loud and busy, not the ideal setting for an afternoon tea. When we arrived they sat us down at a table that had not yet been laid even though we had booked in advance. We found the service to be exceptionally slow and unobservant. We had to wait 25 mins before we had to ask for our order to be taken and then another 35 mins until our food arrived. The table next to us had come for lunch and had had a starter and were half way through their main before we received our drinks. At no point were we offered refills of our drinks and it took a while for them to clear our plates. They still put a 15% service charge on our bill with no acknowledgement to how poor the service had been.

This is a beautiful restaurant in a lovely, feminine setting above Borough Market. The prices are very high for small servings, but I will say the quality of the roast chicken was delicious. For fine dining prices though, the wait staff were very inexperienced which was very annoying; I.e I had to ask for chicken gravy for roast chicken three times as they kept bringing beef gravy, the young server (lovely, but...) being confused by my ask and kept telling me 'gravy is gravy'. £7 for bread. My partner ordered his lamb medium rare and it came out totally pink at a cost of £36.00 (and literally about 3 mouthfuls of meat). I would skip a roast here and maybe try the high tea if you want to experience the setting without being let down by food/experience with an extortionate price tag.

Dreadful Sunday Birthday Lunch experience. Arrived a few minutes before our reservation and spent 15 minutes queuing from the lift/stairwell before we got to reception. Queue was formed all of diners with reservations. Zero recognition of the delay from reception staff. Also had to ask several times when we would get our table. Sat at our table, drinks order taken and we requested bread for the table… that never arrived. 4 starters ordered, only 3 arrive. Not noticed by waiting staff. We ask where is the 4th starter to which the response was “sorry I forgot to add that to the order, I will get it to come right out”. 15 minutes later, still waiting and all other starters now finished. Main courses arrive and 2 of the 4 are tepid bordering on cold. At this point we ask to speak to the manager. After explaining the catalogue of errors he is defensive and makes little attempt to redress the situation and just says “what do you want me to do… take something off the bill”. The bill is discounted, could have and should have, with hindsight . requested for more - but just wanted to get out. A thoroughly disappointing experience. The restaurant was too busy, lots of waiting staff but with no attention to customers, or any apparent cohesion/order, all very transactional and abrupt. Roast leverage a high price point but the service would not have been acceptable in your local pub. A really poor experience.

To start with the positive the food was really good. We both ordered roast beef which was extremely tasty, excellent roast potatoes & lovely veg. Deserts we had the champagne strawberry cheesecake which was delicious and one of the best desserts I’ve eaten. However would not recommend this restaurant due to the overall experience. Arrived early which was just as well as joined a huge queue in a narrow corridor so ended up being seated a few minutes after our booking time as spent 20 min in the queue. Also only 2 woman’s toilets in a restaurant this size is ridiculous and meant a very long wait. Our first table we were seated at was so close to the group next to us we were almost sitting with them! There was barely 10cm between the tables so we asked to be moved. As other reviews have noted they have crammed in so many tables it is loud & over crowded. Service was quite slow & waited a long time for drinks. The wine hardly covered the bottom of the glass but Guinness was very nice. Overall amazing food but sadly would not return.

Let’s start with the positives. The staff were very attentive, the scotch egg starter was very nice, the coffee’s and drinks were very nice, especially the ‘old fashion’s. The restaurant itself was very pleasant Now, the downsides My main meal of roast beef was awful, the beef itself resembled two fried slices of beef, edge with fat and gristle. It was almost as if the kitchen had sliced of two 1/4” slices of beef and fried them, they tasted strange and greasy. The same as the ‘roast’ potatoes. One carrot accompanied the plate along with one small croquette and a small tub of horseradish cream. The Yorkshire was cold and hard. The gravy was thin, watery with a greasy film £36.50 worth of disappointment My friend burger just looked a mess sandwiched between two blackened halves of a brioche bun I definitely won’t be returning. Photo below of what I expect of a roast dinner

The restaurant had lovely Christmas decor, creating a festive ambiance in the heart of London’s Borough Market. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t live up to expectations, especially given the high prices. The pork belly was very fatty, and the crackling was tough and inedible. The beef Wellington was a generous portion but overly rich, paired with a strong truffle mash. Vegetables had to be ordered separately, adding to the cost. The turkey roast was better value, served with vegetables and all the trimmings, but I’ve had equally good, if not better, roasts at other pubs for half the price. The service also fell short. Small spillages on the table were left uncleaned before the next course, which was disappointing. Additionally, the hygiene of some waitstaff could be improved, as a couple of them left a noticeable body odor smell as they passed. I understand that busy service can be fast-paced, but this occurred just 30 minutes after the restaurant opened for lunch, which was surprising. To top it off, the wine portions were very small for £11 a glass. While the decor and location are appealing, the combination of expensive prices, underwhelming food, and service issues makes it hard to recommend.

If you're in for a Sunday roast or an afternoon tea, this place is just great. Situated in and above Borough market, it's perfect for some fine food, good wines, very friendly staff and, depending on your taste, the decoration is just beautiful.

It is a lovely setting with a great atmosphere but it seems terribly overpriced. The food was OK but it was nothing special. The service was great. We paid £174 for one starter, two main courses and one of their cheaper bottles of wine which was nearly £70 and, of course, subject to their standard service charge. I checked retail price of the wine to find that it is £14.50. This seems like a totally unreasonable markup.

Food was just ok for the price. There are two different types of chairs and the wooden chairs are extremely uncomfortable. Staff was nice and attentive, didn’t feel rushed and refilled water etc. Feels a little cramped in there, and it gets really busy. Food was not it. The wellington meat was great, but crust and mashed potatoes weren’t anything special for what they charge. Prawn cocktail is a joke, tiny pieces, more salad and sauce than anything. I wouldn’t go back and there are much better places in the same area. A shame because it has potential.

We went for Sunday Roast. Location was in the heart of Borough market (restaurant overlooks the market) Food was excellent - the roast potatoes were devine, the meat tender etc The service was excellent. Seems very well staffed and they were helpful regarding allergies (in our case lactose intolerance). What surprised us was how good the cocktails were (almost as good as some of our favourite cocktail bars). (see pics for recommendations). It would have been an easy 5 stars except for 2 small oversights on their part - so this is intended as feedback:- 1. They forgot our carrots and we had to ask for them. 2. The prices on the bill were slightly different from the menu - although worth the prices, still misleading and needs improvement on this kind of attention to details Overall excellent experience and not too pricey for the type of food, service and location. We will return soon.

I had the beef Wellington and chips with truffle sauce and it was all very good. Service was solid with a lot of attention which was great considering it was very crowded. Meal and drinks came out very quickly. I’ll definitely go back. Returned to bring my wife for a romantic Valentine’s dinner and it was delicious with solid service. We started with scotch egg and oysters, both very good. I had the halibut and my wife had the filet cooked medium rare with peppercorn sauce. The steak was cooked correctly and the sauce on the baked fish was great. We shared the broccoli with with black garlic sauce and for dessert we shared toffee sticky pudding. Everything was wonderful and ambience was very romantic.

We visited on Valentine’s Day dinner. The restaurant seemed well prepared and we got seated straight away. The service was friendly and quick but had a clear agenda to get customers out the door as soon as possible. We were seated in a corner next to fire extinguishers when there were plenty of open nicer tables available. Multiple times they offered to take food and drinks away when it was clear we had not finished. They charged the wrong amount, which were apologetic for. The atmosphere was well done, with a floral interior. The food was excellent and we were satisfied.

Very good food and service. I really had no expectations, never heard about this place before, and now l can actually recommend it or go back again. Very good size for the portion, despite l went for the set menu (usually other places tend to reduced it). The service was professional and impeccable. Highly recommended.

Rushed all the way through, stuck in the corner and constantly bumped into while eating. Then they had the cheek to try and add £100 to the bill something we didn’t have. Booked this in advance to be told when we arrive they need the table back in and hour and 30. Had two course no time to relax within 3/4. We won’t be going back

I was ending my eurotrip and I wanted to give myself a little last treat and OH BOY what a great choice it was to pick Roast. I did my research before choosing where to do an afternoon tea and I’m so happy I stumbled across this place. First, all the staff were super nice and kind💖 Second, it was BEAUTIFUL. To have such a nice place and eat on top of the Borough Market was a nice experience. And last but not least, the food was 100/10!!!! I’m very picky when its about food, but everything was on point! I really have to thank the girl (I don’t know her name :( ) that helped me choosing my tea, because as a big tea fan and having a huge amount of teas to choose from, she guided me with her favorites and even gave me a cup to try another flavor. Overall, my first afternoon tea was a 10/10 experience!✨

We got the halal afternoon tea. Even tho it was pricey, we couldn’t eat all the food. Some of the pastries were too sweet. The scones were the best!! The sandwiches weren’t that good. I’ve had better sandwiches at less expensive places. They also add a service fee. Atmosphere is great for pics and service is a little slow but tolerable.

Very good food, beautiful location! The only issue that lets them down is upon arrival you come out the elevator and are meet with crowds of people. Some have reservations, and others are there just for photos. The restaurant needs a member of staff to great guest as they arrive from the elevator, and turn those away who don’t have reservations who are just making the already small, tight entrance, even more crowded.

The truffled cauliflower cheese and roast potatoes are to die for! Will definitely be coming back when we are in London again - got to try the Afternoon Tea next.

This was for my husbands birthday and I called in advance to inform them and request a nice table on a sofa area. None of this was acknowledged when we arrived. We ordered the chateau brand and sides which were over priced and small in size. The staff were rushed and not paying attention to the order. I had to ask for sauces ordered for the steak as they were not served with the steak despite being ordered. A 15% service charge is added to the bill which in our case was over £45! Not worth it in any way. For someone who has been a regular and spent thousands here, the service has deteriorated dramatically.

Saturday dinner. Seated straightaway, nice table by the window, less crammed than in the middle. Attentive waiters, drinks came quickly and were good. Pleasant starters, scotch eggs a highlight. Roast dinner generous and wellington very tasty. Meat a bit cold as it seems to be cooked for the evening and stay under heated lamps. Good wine at decent price point. Not cheap but good overall and better than what some of the reviews suggest.

Starting from poorly dressed maitre- too small clothes, not ironed, to waiter who hasn’t brushed his teeth for a long time to dish (sea bream) so overpowered with flavors of butter, lemon and capers you couldn’t taste the fish to waiter who took my drink without asking… The place pretends to be stylish but it’s really rough, would need a good clean and definitely up scaling their waiting staff - teach them hygiene and grooming.

I asked for a matcha which is simple to make and the staff member couldn’t make it properly and added too much milk. I was not satisfied with the experience. Staff have no barista skills and don’t have a variety of soft drink options and horrible hygiene as toilet door is left open and not cleaned.

Entered the pub on a quiet lunchtime with my Japanese guest whilst on the Thames Path heading towards Greenwich. There had been light rain and I had closed a small compact umbrella at the threshold. Barely seconds later I was aggressively accused of shaking out my wet umbrella on the floor! When denied, the landlord claimed he said no such thing! My guest and I were both shocked by this rude man - it was not the welcome we were expecting - so we turned tail and continued our journey to a decidedly more friendly, and therefore busy, local establishment where we had an excellent lunch and a good few drinks.

40 min queue for blokes toilet and the worst bar staff ever. It is a sink pub near the station in London. Go only if no better option.
