Great atmosphere and really nice aesthetic but unfortunately the food was a little lacking in some areas. We got the afternoon tea set and whilst the savoury and sweet options were fine the scones were really off. They had an incredibly weird aftertaste - like too much raising agent perhaps? Although it all looked great the portions were also a little small for the price point.

Very good looking aesthetics. Super clean toilets. Food is mediocre. And very very expensive. A beef burger was charged at £29 ... with beef shavings well hidden. And it was horrible tasting. Ate it as i paid £29!! Also potatoes they truly mean it's triple fried. David could have used them on Goliath to shoot with the catapult. Way overpriced for everything...and tasteless food. Sorry

I had roasted halibut, served in a creamy, delicious sauce. I didn't get starters or dessert because I was too poor. Everyone also dressed fancy or at least sorta fancy... except me because I just walked in from the borough market. The waiters are super nice though.

A Perfect Dining Experience at Roast, Borough Market My family and I had the pleasure of dining at Roast in Borough Market yesterday, and I can confidently say it was one of the best meals we've ever had. From the moment we walked in, we were struck by the stunning décor — bright, elegant, and beautifully adorned with flowers, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Despite being a higher-class restaurant, the staff made us feel incredibly welcome. Their attentive and friendly service elevated the entire experience. Now, onto the food — simply outstanding. My wife and I both had the roast beef burger, and I can honestly say it was the best burger I have ever eaten. The combination of flavours was nothing short of a vibrant taste sensation. My mum ordered the Saddleback pork belly and was equally impressed, while my dad’s venison suet pudding left him wanting more — a true testament to the quality of the dishes. Thank you, Roast, for such an incredible meal. We will definitely be returning in the near future!

Had such high hopes, but this might have been the worst meal of our trip. Ordered a cocktail, and it never showed up. I guess one would assume that a 40+ dry aged roast beef would be tender, but had to saw through it. Overall taste was bland at best. Server repeatedly discussed tip despite never once coming to check on our lost drinks, meal, etc. I think they market an experience to tourists that they don’t even come close to living up to. Place looked nice, but I found myself wishing I was at the street food location I could see out the window.

We used to come here often when we lived in London and thought we would come back. Sadly gone are the cafetières of coffee (Blue Jamaican mountain was always my favourite). Waiter was unsure about GF options and said the chef asked him to ask us what to put on as replacements. GF sausage isn’t hard to find, bacon seemed cheap and streaky. No extra egg or mushrooms? Not sure why we were asked and then ignored. Butter portions were enormous however red/brown sauce portions were tiny in comparison. Was ok but sometimes you shouldn’t go back to places as they’re not the same.

Utter chaos! Made a reservation for 3pm. Arrived 10 minutes early, fair enough, table wasn't ready. But then all of the other 3pm reservations arrived. With no real waiting areas it was "Lord of the Flies" on who got a table. Hostess station were simply dreadful (especially Astor). Now, I'm not sure if that's because she's had everyone complaining at her all day long, but giving minimal (bordering on rude) answers when we asked questions when our table might be ready at 20 past 3, really wasn't helpful to anyone. We were seated at 3.25pm and we immediately ordered a bottle of Rose (Pinot or something similar). We were bought a bottle which was apparently the "only rosé" they carried. Utter bemusement ensued, only to find (at the back of the wine list) a comprehensive Rosé wine list?!? Service from that point did get better, but not receiving our mains for an hour and a quarter after being seated, it is very obvious that 10% less tables would have not only made our dining experience much nicer (we were trapped in like sardines) but it would have also made all servers life a lot easier as well. Less haste & more speed springs to mind and something I feel upper management should take under advisement. Less tables would mean happier customers & servers. Period.

Gorgeous restaurant overlooking Borough market, swathed in fairy lights during the evening. As per its namesake they do a lot of roasted meats and veggies but the menu felt varied, and the Beef Wellington was divine. On the pricier side but not unreasonable for the area or for their fare - certainly worth checking out for a date-night for tourists and locals alike.

Booking is essential as this place is usually packed, which accounts for the wait time for food. The dishes are absolutely delicious, though the menu offers a limited selection. We went for afternoon tea at 2.30pm on a Saturday afternoon. The food was good but wasn't anything special. We really liked the idea of having an extra savoury layer to the afternoon tea. However the atmosphere was very loud and busy, not the ideal setting for an afternoon tea. When we arrived they sat us down at a table that had not yet been laid even though we had booked in advance. We found the service to be exceptionally slow and unobservant. We had to wait 25 mins before we had to ask for our order to be taken and then another 35 mins until our food arrived. The table next to us had come for lunch and had had a starter and were half way through their main before we received our drinks. At no point were we offered refills of our drinks and it took a while for them to clear our plates. They still put a 15% service charge on our bill with no acknowledgement to how poor the service had been.

Though most gluten-free scones are…We found the service erratic ; it was a busy Friday afternoon, but the waiters were impersonal and borderline rude- a smile costs nothing , and might even get you a tip- and the cloak-room attendant , who was not there and appeared a few minutes into my hanging up our coats - was very rude indeed , snatching the hanger out of my hand and saying ‘no no no ‘. It’s a pity the level of service does not come up to the quality of the product , and falls very far short of the prices.

Was all good until the food arrived. 2 thinly sliced heavily fatty raw/super rare and strangely powdery lamb (medium rare apparently). Beef gravy with the roast chicken. Staff undertrained/unaware. £7 for bread. Extortionate pricing for a below average meal. it's a conveyorbelt of roasts.. how do you fk it up? Potato's were OK and the carrot was good. First time I've ever asked for the service charge to be removed. Plenty of much better options around town.

This is a beautiful restaurant in a lovely, feminine setting above Borough Market. The prices are very high for small servings, but I will say the quality of the roast chicken was delicious. For fine dining prices though, the wait staff were very inexperienced which was very annoying; I.e I had to ask for chicken gravy for roast chicken three times as they kept bringing beef gravy, the young server (lovely, but...) being confused by my ask and kept telling me 'gravy is gravy'. £7 for bread. My partner ordered his lamb medium rare and it came out totally pink at a cost of £36.00 (and literally about 3 mouthfuls of meat). I would skip a roast here and maybe try the high tea if you want to experience the setting without being let down by food/experience with an extortionate price tag.

We went for Tea Time at the Roast. Great setting within Borough Market, very educational and attentive waiter and not very expensive when you taste the quality of the different "mini-dishes" (9 in all: 6 savory and 3 sweet) to which is added the famous scone with its cream and jam (both excellent) accompanied by a liter of tea per person to choose from a dozen. Definitely the place to have Tea Time. (Doggy Bag possible if too full).

Food was extremely average, and comically overpriced. No greeting upon arrival or goodbye upon departure - staff just blanked us. It made us laugh. A two hour wait for our food. Menu is small and all the food is sat under heaters like a school canteen, so not sure what took so long. When one of the £45 chateaubriand’s arrived, it was cold and chewy, it was sent back but not without some awkward pushback from the waitress/manager? Went for a Sunday roast. Food was lovely but no better than the roast you could get in a good pub. It was very busy and the wait for food was long which didn't bother us, but the waiting staff were either rushing us or completely absent. It didn't feel very relaxed for a Sunday lunch. It felt like they were trying to hurry us to make up for the slow kitchen and big queue. Pudding was cold and when sent back, arrived exactly the same again. Not worth the price.

Dreadful Sunday Birthday Lunch experience. Arrived a few minutes before our reservation and spent 15 minutes queuing from the lift/stairwell before we got to reception. Queue was formed all of diners with reservations. Zero recognition of the delay from reception staff. Also had to ask several times when we would get our table. Sat at our table, drinks order taken and we requested bread for the table… that never arrived. 4 starters ordered, only 3 arrive. Not noticed by waiting staff. We ask where is the 4th starter to which the response was “sorry I forgot to add that to the order, I will get it to come right out”. 15 minutes later, still waiting and all other starters now finished. Main courses arrive and 2 of the 4 are tepid bordering on cold. At this point we ask to speak to the manager. After explaining the catalogue of errors he is defensive and makes little attempt to redress the situation and just says “what do you want me to do… take something off the bill”. The bill is discounted, could have and should have, with hindsight . requested for more - but just wanted to get out. A thoroughly disappointing experience. The restaurant was too busy, lots of waiting staff but with no attention to customers, or any apparent cohesion/order, all very transactional and abrupt. Roast leverage a high price point but the service would not have been acceptable in your local pub. A really poor experience.

To start with the positive the food was really good. We both ordered roast beef which was extremely tasty, excellent roast potatoes & lovely veg. Deserts we had the champagne strawberry cheesecake which was delicious and one of the best desserts I’ve eaten. However would not recommend this restaurant due to the overall experience. Arrived early which was just as well as joined a huge queue in a narrow corridor so ended up being seated a few minutes after our booking time as spent 20 min in the queue. Also only 2 woman’s toilets in a restaurant this size is ridiculous and meant a very long wait. Our first table we were seated at was so close to the group next to us we were almost sitting with them! There was barely 10cm between the tables so we asked to be moved. As other reviews have noted they have crammed in so many tables it is loud & over crowded. Service was quite slow & waited a long time for drinks. The wine hardly covered the bottom of the glass but Guinness was very nice. Overall amazing food but sadly would not return.

Food tasted okay, but took a long time to arrive. Some got their food before us even though they came after us. My wife's toast and eggs were cold when they did finally arrive- they must've been sitting there for a while. Didn't bother asking for a remake on the eggs as we were hungry and didn't want to wait a long time again. The male staff members that served our table were great. Let’s start with the positives. The staff were very attentive, the scotch egg starter was very nice, the coffee’s and drinks were very nice, especially the ‘old fashion’s. The restaurant itself was very pleasant Now, the downsides My main meal of roast beef was awful, the beef itself resembled two fried slices of beef, edge with fat and gristle. It was almost as if the kitchen had sliced of two 1/4” slices of beef and fried them, they tasted strange and greasy. The same as the ‘roast’ potatoes. One carrot accompanied the plate along with one small croquette and a small tub of horseradish cream. The Yorkshire was cold and hard. The gravy was thin, watery with a greasy film £36.50 worth of disappointment My friend burger just looked a mess sandwiched between two blackened halves of a brioche bun I definitely won’t be returning. The restaurant had lovely Christmas decor, creating a festive ambiance in the heart of London’s Borough Market. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t live up to expectations, especially given the high prices. The pork belly was very fatty, and the crackling was tough and inedible. The beef Wellington was a generous portion but overly rich, paired with a strong truffle mash. Vegetables had to be ordered separately, adding to the cost. The turkey roast was better value, served with vegetables and all the trimmings, but I’ve had equally good, if not better, roasts at other pubs for half the price. The service also fell short. Small spillages on the table were left uncleaned before the next course, which was disappointing. Additionally, the hygiene of some waitstaff could be improved, as a couple of them left a noticeable body odor smell as they passed. I understand that busy service can be fast-paced, but this occurred just 30 minutes after the restaurant opened for lunch, which was surprising. To top it off, the wine portions were very small for £11 a glass. While the decor and location are appealing, the combination of expensive prices, underwhelming food, and service issues makes it hard to recommend.

It is a lovely setting with a great atmosphere but it seems terribly overpriced. The food was OK but it was nothing special. The service was great. We paid £174 for one starter, two main courses and one of their cheaper bottles of wine which was nearly £70 and, of course, subject to their standard service charge. I checked retail price of the wine to find that it is £14.50. This seems like a totally unreasonable markup.

We went for Sunday Roast. Location was in the heart of Borough market (restaurant overlooks the market) Food was excellent - the roast potatoes were devine, the meat tender etc The service was excellent. Seems very well staffed and they were helpful regarding allergies (in our case lactose intolerance). What surprised us was how good the cocktails were (almost as good as some of our favourite cocktail bars). (see pics for recommendations). It would have been an easy 5 stars except for 2 small oversights on their part - so this is intended as feedback:- 1. They forgot our carrots and we had to ask for them. 2. The prices on the bill were slightly different from the menu - although worth the prices, still misleading and needs improvement on this kind of attention to details Overall excellent experience and not too pricey for the type of food, service and location. Staff was nice and attentive, didn’t feel rushed and refilled water etc. Feels a little cramped in there, and it gets really busy. Food was not it. The wellington meat was great, but crust and mashed potatoes weren’t anything special for what they charge. Prawn cocktail is a joke, tiny pieces, more salad and sauce than anything. I visited on January 31, 2025, for my annual birthday breakfast. Unfortunately, the greeting I received at reception was underwhelming. While the breakfast itself was pleasant, I had to request brown sauce twice, which was disappointing given that the restaurant wasn't busy at the time. My dining experience was further disrupted when staff began setting up the adjacent table, inadvertently bumping mine in the process. I also noticed that my table was unstable and had been wedged with a roll of paper to prevent rocking – an unprofessional solution. Overall, the service fell well short of expectations. The staff would benefit from additional training to improve their attentiveness and professionalism. Given this experience, I'm hesitant to return and will likely choose a different venue in the future.

The food selection appeared slim however I was in awe of the dishes on arrival. Extraordinary good food, impeccable service and made quite a difference from the peculiar treatment I received from a wine bar at the National Theatre the night before. I will be back.

Great service. But food was very average and didn't match the price tag.

The food was nice but the service was very poor and it spoilt our experience. I wrote an email after our dinner to express my disappointment (very polite!) but I haven’t even received a reply (sent 30th Jan). I don’t usually write public reviews but after such a bad experience and lack of care to even acknowledge my comments, I felt compelled to. I’d avoid this place - there are better restaurants in the area

I'm not usually one to write reviews but felt the need to today. The food was good but the service was awful; we waited over 20 minutes to be seated for a pre-booked table, while I'm stood there with a 1 year old in my arms. Front of house were not taking note of who was stood there waiting to be seated, which allowed people to push past and bully their way to the front. The front of house also kept walking off leaving the front desk without any staff, which created unnecessary tension with everyone queuing up. Once we were seated we waited an additional 10 minutes for menus. Mains turned up and we didn't have any cutlery. Overall the whole experience was just disappointing for somewhere you'd expect to be high end.

Very disappointed with the experienced. They have crammed so many tables into the restaurant that it feels like eating at an airport fast food cafe. When I have to move, while eating my meal, so that another diner can get to their seat something is terribly wrong. We were on the end table so while I could not move my chair back or left I could get out on the right. The couple next to us had less than 6 inches of space on either side of their table and the middle diner (as mentioned above) could not get out or in without asking other diners to get up. If they want increase numbers and turnover to improve profits by cramming people in then don't charge top end prices. When I made my observations to the staff their response was 'I'm really sorry, it's not us - it's management, we have told them and we have to deal with lots of complaints like this everyday'. When your own staff won't defend you then you have definitely got it wrong. As a consequence of all this the experience was terrible - normally we would have had 3 courses followed by tea and coffee - this time we had a main course then left. I seriously think you should revisit your business strategy. The food was OK but there wasn't a lot of roast beef and it was a little fatty but we could have lived with that if the experience had been better. We have been going there periodically since 2005 when they opened - I doubt we will go back.

Recommended by a friend, we decided to have dinner here during a weekend stay in London. And that was a hit. A beautiful location, and a beautiful restaurant. Welcoming staff, and a exciting menu. We had the croquettes and scotch egg as a starter, and the Beef Wellington as a main. It was all delicious. As said, the staff was very welcoming and friendly. Apart from the waiter serving our main course. He was clearly not having his best day and was going through the motions with a clear indifference. I hope he feels better now. If you are in London, this is certainly a restaurant that won't disappoint. Make reservation beforehand One thing I would like to say about that last thing:the Open Table tool they use at their own website is quite pushy in messaging. As we do not live in the UK and don't have a UK phone number, it was quite frustrating to get a text with a request for conformation that technically did not work for me. My suggestion for roast is to find a different provider or change some settings.

The food was good, although the gravy was a bit watery and lacked taste. The wellington beef was nice, it arrived a bit cold, many of us also had the roast beef - no complaints there and the pork belly was marked as 10/10. Needless to say the service did not meet our expectations. Nobody was checking on us, food arrived very slowly so as the drinks. Everything is a bit on the pricey side so you'd expect better and far more attentive customer service.

An occasion place that has lived up to the hype twice now. Dinners are deceptively filling and beautifully cooked. Have had both the lamb and chicken and eyeing up the Beef for our next visit. Service is friendly without feeling forced or rushed. Book ahead as your unlikely to get a table, in this (I would like to say hidden gem but was packed) Borough Market Restaurant. Definitely coming back again.

The food was wonderful but the waiting staff let you down. The service and atmosphere does not reflect the high London prices. Being charged for bread when it has not been ordered and tap water !!! Is unacceptable. I would not recommend Roast as the experience was very disappointing as a special place to celebrate our anniversary. Stella Alesbury

The food was definitely the best part of our experience and did not disappoint, it was delicious, so our compliments to the chef. However, we paid for bottomless Prosecco and we were only filled up once by the server, despite the fact we were there for over 90 minutes - this aspect was very disappointing. When we challenged the server about this at the end of the mean he said he’d give us another bottled, but failed to understand and answer why we weren’t served throughout our meal. With that being the exception, the food was delicious, the restaurant was clean and beautifully decorated and the seating comfortable.

Great food, although it could have been warmer. The service wasn’t great and we noticed the floor manager bullying several members of the staff (maybe that’s why the service isn’t great!). By the end we felt sorry for the team and even asked if they were ok. Perhaps a review of the upper level restaurant floor manger is required ?

Phenomenal food and ambiance. Terrible service. Waited 20 min for my server to take my order even though the restauarant wasnt busy. Never received the drink I ordered. Server didnt check in on me one time during the meal. It seems like a great place so maybe i just had terrible luck/server.

Beautiful cocktails before our dinner, a corner table with sweeping views of the city, the well-timed serving of 3 delicious courses as the sun set, a friendly and efficient waiter who also didn't balk at taking our photo, and a loo with a view -- what more could we have asked for from this occasion?! Very impressive and enjoyable -- thank you for a wonderful evening for my husband and me and, more importantly, for my brother visiting from the States who said the whole experience would be very hard to beat.

Piacevolmente sorpresi. Tantissimi oggetti artigianali in vendita molto interessanti . La sala dove potersi sedere molto bella.

Came here with a couple of church friends for supper to celebrate their birthdays after we had spent the day at the Tower of London. The food was excellent as always with Wetherspoons, but the app stopped accepting our table number, causing us to have to go up and order partway through our meal. While we are all fully mobile, I have an old and dear friend from primary school who uses a wheelchair, so that would made the pub totally inaccessible for her.

Went for Sunday lunch, 3 of us. Ordered 3 dishes, 2 pork Sunday roast and 1 schnitzel & fries. The 2 roasts turned up after an hour waiting, & it wasn’t hot. The schnitzel didn’t turn up atall! They forgot!! Asked for a refund twice as I’d been there an hour & half & needed to go. Didn’t get my refund but told I’d get the food in a takeaway box. An apology from the owners would have been nice but that wasn’t forthcoming either. Very disappointed. A waste of time & money. Won’t go there again
