The Thatched Inn in Mid Sussex

Just returned from a family meal. A cracking good quality meal and excellent value for money. Lovely attentive staff. All the the meals I saw being brought out looked good and of good sized portions. Definitely worth a visit and we will be returning. Well done👍

We go to the Thatched Inn fairly regularly for family meals as it offers such excellent value for money. The meals are massive, so we never go away hungry. The staff are always so happy and the dessert board has some fantastic desserts. The menu caters for vegetarians too. Last night I ordered the Vegeterian Lasagna with chips. I was so hungry and it was so tasty and piping hot. My wife ordered the Haddock and Chips, which again, was a massive serving. We can’t recommend this restaurant enough.

Wonderful place. Recommended it to friends who have messaged to say thank you because they loved it too. This is not a shiny gastro pub. It's a proper local pub , dog friendly, lovely staff, and excellent food at good value prices. This is not haute cuisine. It's the sort of food you'd cook at home, and done well We were there for Sunday lunch and the meal was huge but we ate every bit. Well done to them for doing this old fashioned thing so very well.

Sorry about this but the meal not up to your usual standards. Chicken and bacon pie lacked enough sauce. Also the puff was so fine that a strong breeze would have blown it away! It virtually disintegrated on touch! On the plus side certainly ample portions and pleasant staff.

Pleasant Sunday evening dinner. Not overly busy, plenty of front of house and service was quick. Food appeared quickly, generous portions and everything cooked and seasoned well. Good value for money, pleasant surroundings, toilets very clean. A decent venue.

We’ve been coming here for years and for good reason. If you’re looking for amazing pub food in the area, or just a drink with your friends, this is the best place to come. The service has always been great and the staff are still friendly, talkative and efficient. There is a lot of variety on the menu and it’s very reasonably priced. Most mains are served with your choice of potato and salad or veg, so it’s very difficult to leave hungry. The Sunday roasts are another highlight though definitely book in advance for that. My go to is usually the veggie lasagne, which is the best example of this I’ve ever had in a pub. There’s also the specials menu that changes every week and is always worth a look. Last time we were hear I ordered the mushroom and Stilton pie from with menu which was fantastic, my friend ordered the bacon steak which also looked lovely. Reasonably priced, great food, good atmosphere and friendly staff, you can’t go wrong.

Superb food at reasonable prices. Plenty of gluten-free options. Staff were helpful and friendly. Drinks reasonably priced too. Well worth a visit, make sure you book first as it gets very busy.

Wonderful food. Generous helpings. Plenty of home made food to choose from. Staff levels are good and extremely well organised. The atmosphere is nice. Bright and airy in the main Restaurant which is pleasant as i am visually impaired. Pricing is fair making for a wonderful experience.

Booked this on the strength of previous reviews as we were visiting the area. Queue outside before opening so were hoping for good things. Booked for 1200 and were told that table was only good till 1400. This would have been OK but we were still waiting for our food at 1245. Told by manager that because the food is freshly cooked that it is usual for a 45 minute wait - not that this is mentioned on the menu or the web site. Helpful hint... pare the menu down on a Sunday ( not two pages and a page of specials ). This would give chef a chance to prepare something in the allocated sitting time. Could not comment on food quality as we gave up after 45 mins. Restaurant noisy with utility furnishing, all a bit cheap. Best aviod

Great food and kind efficient staff. They have a dining room, bar with lots of seating and another bar with pool table, also outside seating in the nice weather.

Booked Sunday lunch for a family meal. Although busy service was good, as was the meal. Activities books and crayons available for the grandkids while waiting for the meal to arrive. Overall a pleasant lunch.

Had the most delicious beef cheeks with horseradish mash. It was so soft and delicious, cooked for 10 hours I’m reliably informed, that it didn’t even needed to be cut, it just fell apart. Thank you Thatch Inn

Went with Husband for a trip down memory lane as used to go to this pub years ago when dating, didn’t book but managed to get a table for lunch in bar area, restaurant was fully booked. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal lovely large portions , large and varied menu including daily specials which we enjoyed the trio of fish was yummy while hubby enjoyed the jacket with chicken tikka. The staff were attentive and friendly will certainly plan another visit sooner rather than later

David was able to accommodate our funeral party at short-notice and we were so grateful. Not knowing the pub we were taking a chance but we really couldn't have been made more welcome. It is a delightful pub and the staff were wonderful. The food was very well presented and excellent. We had a thoroughly enjoyable lunch and would certainly not hesitate to return if we find ourselves in the area again!

Another enjoyable visit to the Thatched Inn and no change from previous visits. Good food , good ales and friendly staff. We all opted for the rump steak as we hadn't been for awhile and all agreed it was top quality. well worthy a visit if you are in the area.

Although still a little nervous about having meals out, in spite of being fully vacinated, my wife and I wanted to meet up with a family friend before she moved to her new home in Edinburgh. We saw The Thatched Inn on a internet search, liked the look of it and booked. We were not disappointed. The staff were exceptional - welcoming, friendly, attentive and really professional. The selection of food was brilliant, with something to please everyone, service was prompt and when our food came it was well presented, hot and plentiful. Overall, The Thatched Inn did everything to make our evening enjoyable and motivate us to return again soon.

Bored with cooking for ourselves we decided to treat ourselves to a Sunday Roast. Have to say it was one of the best we have had. Beef was tender, vegetables were good. There was plenty of it and more than enough gravy. Very highly recommended.

For New Years Eve we decided to support one of our local pubs and we are so glad we did. What lovely food for a takeaway. Felt like we brought the pub home with us. Food was packaged so well it was still piping hot when we got home and sat down to eat. Highly recommend

The Thatched Inn recently became my local when staying in Hassocks. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The food was excellent quality and plenty of it, with a good selection on the menu plus a Specials menu. All Covid-19 requirements were in place and adhered to. Definitely recommend.

Delicious food with lots of choice from both the main menu and the specials board. Staff here are always friendly, helpful and welcoming. It must be hard for them with all the new Covid 19 restrictions but they dealt with it all really well. 1/2 roast BBQ chicken was very tasty and tender, served with great chips and the best onion rings ever! The Mexican burger gets a big thumbs up too. We'll definitely be back!

This is my most favourite pub/restaurant. It was my Mum’s 90th Birthday treat and we had an excellent meal as always. The food was superbly cooked and served by very attentive and friendly staff. I have been to the Thatched Inn at Hassocks on numerous occasions and it never fails to deliver. I highly recommend it for excellent food and value for money.

A friend & I ordered ham/eggs/chips and asked whether the ham was "real." "It's butcher's ham from the bone" we were told. When the meals arrived, it was very thin cut "plastic" tinned ham, saturated with water .We both ate very little of it but the eggs & chips were nice !

As usual the food was just excellent with fantastic service, we come here once a month as we find there is no other pub or resteraunt in the area that can match this place. David the landlord is extrmely helpful and attentive, the porton size is brilliant and considering the prices aren't expensive the food is top quality. Been coming here for years and each visit just gets better. If you have never been, then make it a priority because it's top notch and you won't be dissapointed!!!

I’ve now ordered takeaway from here a couple of times and I’ve been so impressed. I sent a message earlier in the day with my order and a preferred pick up time. Then just turn up and pay. The food has always been ready and is piping hot when I’ve got home. Good size portions and delicious, I especially love their ‘Thatchers’ chicken! We have also eaten here in the past and always received excellent food and a friendly service. Now I would easily recommend eating in or taking out.

Had a quick visit to this pub, I found the staff to be, very friendly and welcoming as I walked through the door! It's a nice pub, with a friendly atmosphere and most importantly very clean and well maintained toilets.

We recently ordered takeaway from the Thatched, Cajun chicken with chips and salad twice. The food was delicious and ready at the time I requested. I live a 10 min drive away and the food was still hot when we ate, which was impressive! The team were friendly and helpful when I arrived and I felt safe whilst collecting my food with the Covid adjustments in place. I have eaten in before previously and was equally impressed, I highly recommend the Thatched for dining in and take away.

Booked into the thatched inn yesterday lunchtime for 12:30 shown to a table left for 20 minutes before someone bothered to ask if we wanted a drink we ordered drinks and immediately ordered food . 3 adults and 2 children . Drinks arrived after 10 minutes!So some 40 minutes later as we asked where the food was it arrived , pub grub was expected but this was the poorest food I have been served for many years.Children’s macaroni cheese covered in dried parsley, child could not eat it , child's burger bun burnt. Adults food fish covered in thick stodgy batter , burgers of poor quality one with end bits of chips the other had overdone chips .No one came to ask if the meal was alright, staff were running about else where and as we were placed out of the way totally forgotten . Eventually managed to get a member of staff to get the bill, still no “how was your meal” had to ask twice for the bill Never again will I venture past their door, I suggest you too should avoid this place , it’s a shame as the pub looks nice with plenty of parking

Finally ‘braved’ going ‘out out’ last night to one of my favourite eateries to celebrate a birthday & an anniversary & we were not disappointed! The food, as always, was absolutely delicious, fresh & plentiful. They were also extremely accommodating & flexible with kids options/portions & vegan options/choices & their desserts were amazing! Thoroughly enjoyed the experience, albeit a little different at the moment but extremely well organised. Thank you to David, Leisa & the team for a lovely evening

First time attending a meal since lockdown and it was such a great experience! Easy and clear one way system with sanitiser on the doors, staff very careful and cautious whilst serving you. The food was amazing! Three of us had the chicken burger and really enjoyed it! One of us had the lasagne and said it was Delicious! Of course we all had a dessert and throughly enjoyed them as well! Thank you so much for making our visit safe and enjoyable! We will definitely return!

We had an amazing take out,the home cooked food was delicious especially the steak and ale pie. It was so good we had one the following week.

Enjoyed an excellent meal with my friend. We enjoyed freshly cooked plaice, chips and salad and chicken, bacon, sausage pie, mash and vegetables ( a special). Service was excellent with friendly attentive staff. We also enjoyed Torte Religious and Salted caramel fudge cake. Will definitely be going back. Definitely receommend.

Visited recently with friends for lunch & we weren’t disappointed. With an extensive menu to choose from, it took us a little while to decide what to have! The food was freshly cooked, the service was excellent, suffice to say, I’ll definitely be going back! Highly recommend a visit.

We use this venue of a very regular basis and never come away disappointed. The food is home cooked and there is nothing to complain of in terms of portion size, furthermore the Special Board ensures that the choice varies from one week to the next. The beer is always well kept and more importantly there is ALWAYS Harvey's Sussex bitter on along side other beers.If there was one criticism and it does not detract overall, it is that the decor is begining to look tired and in need of a deep clean at least. One look at the brass bar fittings will lead the eye to a number of indicators that some TLC would go a long way.But that said we keep coming back for more and reccomend others to do the same.

Love coming to the Thatched Inn and we had a lovely meal for my hubbys birthday. They had a large group in at the same time but the food came quickly and was as great as ever. Never go away disappointed from here - look forward to our next visit.

The food and service are always 100% Last night we enjoyed Cajun Chicken, one of the nicest meals I’ve had in a pub for a long time. Excellent cheerful staff in spite of being incredibly busy and the final bill was excellent value for money. Well done everyone.

I have visited the restaurant on numerous occasions , with and without friends and I can honestly say the food and service have always been first class. If you keep doing it, I'll keep coming.

Not a 15th century thatched ancient building in the West Sussex countryside but a modern re-creation in urban Hassocks. Good large car park. Cheery and bright interior, big gas effect "real" fire in the area where we were seated. Friendly efficient young staff. Wide choice of reasonably priced food and more than adequate choice of drinks including real ales. Accent on food was on quantity at a good price in starters, mains and vegetables but more mass catering quality rather than locally sourced, the roast potatoes for example were poor maybe of the "frozen"type so not a venue for fine diners.

Me and my boyfriend picked this place because of how cute it looks on the outside, plus it was the same on the inside too- we enjoyed a drink next to a giant fireplace. The food is good, with very generous portion sizes.

My friends were already seated in the restaurant but I had to wait at the bar to be served being watched by two waitresses just standing around. Only one person in front of me yet took ages. My friend even remarked that I was still waiting when she used the little room and I was still waiting when she came out! I went to pay by debit card but £10 was the minimum spend. So I had to pay £10 and then gave me change of £8.50 in change! Even though I asked if I could open a tab as I was eating I still had to go through this rigmarole! I wasn't happy with standing around and waiting and now a pocket full of small change. The chairs were uncomfortable and my friends remarked at how their backs were aching. I ordered plaice and chips and it arrived with a small bit of salad, very dry plaice in breadcrumbs and a lot of chips. Nothing else. It was so very dry and by the time I had finished the fish I still had a heap of chips left with nothing to eat them with. I was very disappointed and for the price of over £9 I would have expected some peas and tomato with it. The others had vegetables and I had nothing. The desserts were very expensive and we declined them because of the cost. We weren't offered any drinks at the table just tea or coffee after the meal. Disappointing meals considering the cost and hassle of drinks. Not my idea of a relaxing lunch!

Booked for a Saturday family lunch - table for 8 including one person in a wheelchair and 2 kids in highchairs. Received a warm welcome, table was ready, set out as per booking. Service was good, attentive and helpful. Meals were good, freshly cooked, wonderful chips. A good dining experience.

A group of seventeen ladies met and had a delicious lunch. We had chosen our choice of menu before arriving. The menu was very varied with light or more substantial meals available. This enabled our meals to be brought all together without any long waiting period. The staff could not have been more accommodating in every respect. Nothing was hurried or too much trouble and they were all very attentive to our needs. The food was well presented and delicious. There was a great variety of dishes to choose from on the menu. Nothing was too much trouble fir the ladies serving us.

An ok meal that is reasonably priced, I would have prefered it served without gravy and being able to add if required. A good friendly service from the girls working there. A decent portion size which is always important. A great location in Keymer with an attractive thatched roof.

the staff couldn't have been more helpful about the vegan options, including encouraging me to have a dessert and then insisting I had ice cream in it because they had got it in specially for the vegans. everyone at my table agreed it was better than the normal ice cream. 10/10 for effort, thank you.

We came with four friends to celebrate a special birthday. They had booked a table which would be essential as the place was packed. There is plenty of parking. We had a wonderful evening. The food drinks and service were excellent. The menu is quite large and we would recommend looking on line if possible to get an idea of what you want to eat. The portions are large. Everything was hot and there were plenty of lovely vegetables. Thank you for a memorable evening.

Very good mid-week lunch with friends - excellent food and casual, unpretentious atmosphere but with attentive and pleasant staff. Would strongly recommend the Speldhurst Sausage with Jacket Potato with Baked Beans, Salad & Coleslaw, This was my last meal in the UK before heading to Gatwick Airport and the lunch kept me full all the way across the Atlantic!

Went yesterday for a lunch to take mum out, there were 5 of us and we were early for our booking but it wasn’t a problem we were seated quickly and served prompt with drinks. The menu is quite big and then there’s a specials menu which is also big so it took a while for us to choose. I chose ham, egg and chips and it was a really decent portion. I couldn’t finish nor could mum who had the same. Hubby had the thatchers chicken which is basically hunters chicken and the piece of chicken was huge but he did say there was too much BBQ sauce as it made the dish quite sweet. My brother has Cumberland sausage with onion gravy and chips and was pleased to get 4 sausages. My SIL had the ploughman’s which looked lovely but was also huge. We sadly had no room for pudding but we will def go back there. The staff were all friendly and nothing was too much bother.

Went for lunch unexpectedly with a friend yesterday who rang in advance to make sure they had availability. I have visited many times & David + the staff are always courteous & helpful. The quality of the food here is always excellent & the portions are very generous. The menu has something for everyone, including gluten free options. Their desserts always look delicious but unfortunately I didn't have room for one yesterday, but my friend had the apricot bakewell tart with ice cream & said it was lovely. I will look forward to visiting again in the near future.
