Amazing staff. We were passing by and needed to use the toilet and the gentlemen outside, who was one of the staff members, was very friendly and polite and told us we are welcome to use the toilet. Thank you for your kindness.

First time we have had a carvery from here and it was amazing food

Stopped here on our way from the west coast to the east coast along the M62. We arrived at around 6:45pm and the Lounge was empty - finding a table was easy! Strangely, the bar staff had to make a phone call to determine if the Liver & bacon on the menu came with mashed or chipped potatoes. Anyway, the food turned out well. The Timothy Taylor Landlord ale was very good but they did not have any Sauvignon Blanc. The decor is very old fashioned -almost 'Victorian' in feel and quite worn. The gents toilets smelled of urine and the lounge was comfortable enough.

This was our first visit since the new landlady and landlord took over. Great Sunday lunch and the staff and management were friendly and efficient. We will definitely be visiting again.

Booked for 5 pm on a saturday 24th aug 2024. Aware that pub recently taken over by new Management .However, there is no excuse for the Ladies Toilet to be filthy--toilet bowl in both cubicles were brown ! After we alerted the staff who was apologetic, she tried her best to do an impromptu clean----she was also the Server! Orders taken and 2 KALEFTIKOS Lamb meals, 1 Liver n onions and Shepherds pie arrived. Generous portions noted with tasty mountain of mash. Plates were not heated Vegetables very cold and the rest tepid warm. Generous tasty gravy Chef needs to improve his plating and speed. Noted no other customers eating during our visit. Some locals bought takeaways. We are not returning. WE should have walked out after noting the poor state of the threadbare carpeting!

Booked for Sunday lunch Staff are lovely and obviously it's under new management, unfortunately for us it was definitely a big let down. The place really needs a good clean cobwebs everywhere, the food was very disappointing Shop bought Yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes the whole food was dreadful no taste at all. Sorry guys.

Great friendly place that made you feel welcome as soon as you walked in. The 2 course Sunday carvery was good value. The carvery was excellent with plenty of fresh vegetables and tasty meats. Good selection of beers. The desserts were delicious my wife loved the chocolate orange cake. Will be back to sample the normal menu.

Carvery food was under heat lamps in the conservatory, but the doors were wide open, so food was barely warm by the time you got back to your table

We always call in here for Sunday lunch whenever we are in the area. Simply the best value, home cooked Sunday lunch you will find anywhere in Yorkshire!

Not been here for a few years, called in this aft' for a Sunday lunch, glad to see the quality of the food, the friendliness of the staff and the value for money hasn't changed at all. A smashing little pub and at a tenner for a Sunday roast and a pudding you can't go wrong. (They keep a cracking pint of landlord also) and it's good portions, the chap carving the meats isn't shy with his knife one bit! What I would say is the place hasn't changed at all since I was last in, and I do mean at all, a lick of paint and a spruce up is coming up due. It was rather hot in there as well which when combined with an above average sized plate of food makes for a slightly sweaty experience. Lastly.. there were quite a few flies buzzing around the food area, I know there is little that can be done about this but perhaps investing in a few of those blue light insects zappers would reassure the punters they are making an effort. But these last few points are really trivial and don't take anything away from the good food, good beer, good prices, friendly staff and nice place. Will definitely be using more for my Sunday roast!!!

Lunchtime visit. Chatted with Steve before we’d walked into pub and when we did walk-in Chris chatted to my dad from behind bar so you can’t complain about the welcome. I’ve mentioned before that Steve can cater for gluten free although it’s not obvious that he can. Meals of gammon and chips and liver and onions, both gf and both decent portions. Good ‘old fashioned’ pub grub and delicious.

Nice food. Good range of drinks. Parking next to the pub. Nice outdoor space with plenty of seating. Dog friendly....in parts. Definitely go again.

Had the mixed grill sirloin perfectly medium.rare and a good portion My wife had the gammon.again cooked very well it was very quiet when we went Only comment the gents toilets where a bit smelly and one cubicle was out of use

Been for meals many times good food good value for money but tonight very disappointed order salad ask for no onions or coleslaw but I got full plate of lettuce tomato and peppers sorry that not a salad where was cheese beetroot egg so sorry to complain but dissatisfied

Great place for a Sunday carvery. The staff are really friendly and polite, great selection of beers, wines etc. The owner really knows his customers and customer base. I've not eaten here during the week but if the carvery is anything to go by you be quids in.

Food great and plenty of it. Beer good too. Dog friendly in the public bar side.

Regrettably there for a wake. However, the venue is great with views over the valley. The food provided was good and imaginative and beer excellent. There was one small problem which was quickly resolved.

Another good steak night visit. Two fillets served as ordered, tasty, pink and tender. No gristle waste which is always good as you can clear your plate!. Visited lots of times, will continue to do so.

Good beers on hand pull are kept well. The food is not gourmet standard but it IS good value. Steak pie with veg and mash was tasty and there was plenty of it.

Just had the Sunday carvery. Great value for money. Tender turkey and a great choice of veg and roast and mash potatoes and an assortment of sauces. Pudding also included in the price. A bargain

Nice friendly pub. Food was really good. Had chicken and ham pie. Would have this again. Accessible access and good parking. Very clean and tidy.

We keep going back because Steve does a really good steak. Obviously more expensive now than it used to be when I started reviewing here for the first time, but the potions are generous and the steak is cooked how you like it. Two fillets, potatoes of choice, veg or salad and a bottle of wine for less than the price of one steak in other grill driven pubs. Been lots of times and will continue to do so.

Nice family pub nice staff as well the Sunday carvery is one of the best around this area not like your chain run pubs you actually get meat that you can call meat none of this wafer thin stuff you get elsewhere.£9.50 for 3 meat's, Yorkshire puddings and all the usual fare from a carvery you also get a choice of 4 desserts all within the price.

Visited today and the landlady kindly gave up her seat, staff are lovely 😊 We had the carvery with mixed meats. Meats were perfectly cooked and there is plenty of choices of vegetables. Roasties were perfectly crisp and fluffy. Highly recommend a visit for dinner. Beautiful views out the back, ample seating outside and its got a Pokémon stop 😊 We got our free deserts to go.

Lunchtime visit. Doesn’t say gluten free on Tripadvisor, but Steve aware and food can be made gf. Liver and onions with mash and veg and gammon and eggs. Good prices especially if items off lunchtime specials list at £6.95 for two meals.

Visited many times usually for steak night. Steve again proved why we go back. Quality steak cooked as you asked for it and healthy portions. Always been good and no exception on this visit.

Turned away from a chain pub up the road - for being a single diner, being a visitor from Ireland, I was starving. I thank the chain Carvery pub near Oulton Hall for asking "to wait an hour" Because just up the road to Normanton I found this gem. The lovely barman quickly found me a seat, a pint of Guinness and a ticket to the carvery. And what a delicious Sunday Carvery it was. Just like my wee mam made back in Ireland Less than twelve pounds for a Guinness, a plate of the most beautiful food and after that...... wait..... INCLUDED in the price a lovely bowl of apple pie and custard. If this pub had bigger premises, they'd wipe the floor with "Toby" up da road. Thank you so much for the lovely food and service!!!

I called today for the first time at the traditional pub on the edge of Wakefield. I was greeted like an old friend and the experience just kept getting better. The carvery was generous with a capital 'G'. Lots and lots of perfectly cooked roast beef, turkey and gammon. The roast potatoes were divine and the gravy finished it off perfectly. Sometimes as a lone diner it can be uncomfortable. But that was never an option in this friendly, cosy pub. Having a post-meal cigarette, I was pleased to meet Steve, the owner, and we had a lovely chat as I puffed away. In the end, I was reluctant to leave and will definitely return. I almost forgot to mention that a pudding is included in the very reasonable £8.25 price of the carvery. And there are plenty to choose from!

Visited for Sunday carvery. Generous portions, asked for GF gravy and was provided again with more than I needed. Price also includes sweet so good value. Another winner.

It’s been a while since we’ve been for food but we weren’t disappointed staff always friendly great beers and the freshly cooked food was well cooked and flavoursome good size portions and not overly priced so if you’re looking for good fresh cooked food give little gem a try you won’t be disappointed keep up the good work Steve and staff

Eaten here for both Sunday carvery and steak night. Carvery good value as you help yourself to veg and the meat covers your plate. Asked for gluten free gravy and was provided with more than needed. Dessert included in price as well. Steak night is £20 for two with bottle of wine and £1 extra for sauce or eggs.

Good food and excellent value for money, visited with friends for lunch they have a limited specials menu but two courses for around £6 faultless

I’ve visited the Thatched on numerous occasions over the years and it never fails to impress. It’s a decent, traditional pub which keeps good beer and serves great food which is very well priced. Always great service from the staff and regular events going on. The Cajun chicken is a particular favourite and if you try the mixed grill then make sure you’ve got enough room because it’s enormous! The carvery is fantastic value for money and always delicious. All credit to the landlord and staff for keeping a great pub running and maintaining some character, such a breath of fresh air and a change from all the soulless chain pubs nowadays. Keep up the good work!

An olde worldie pub with good old fashion music but the food is superb and cooked to order. Make sure to get in early at dinner time but the wait is worth it. Love it to bits.

The setting is rough the table clothes appear to never have been ironed!!The carvery is dreadful......My partner had to ask what the stuffing was as it was literally unrecognizable!!I daren't touch the veg as it looked so gross, frozen Yorkshire puddings and roast potatoesThe jam roly poly was clearly frozen and I have never seen custard the colour it was

We visit this pub every other month or so the food is excellent. The value for money always amazes me, with the portion sizes and quality also a great pint. Well worth a visit!!

Visited this pub for Sunday Lunch again as it always gives good value. It did not disappoint the food was outstanding with plenty of freshly carved meat and vegetables. The only thing that was disappointing was the knifes. They were not sharp but they cut the meat because it was so tender. It would just improve the meal with sharper knifes.

We have eaten here many times as it's within walking distance and really good value. Steak night especially is great as two people get a steak meal with a bottle of wine for under £20!!

Lovely Sunday roast and a pudding included in the price.the only thing that let it down a bit was it wasn't warm enough a big hug bear with me I like my food hot. The staff are excellent .

Just a nice little pub with lovely hanging baskets and at the moment a awesome Christmas tree, when you go in it's so warm and cosy.

Have passed this place hundreds of times and seen a queue of people waiting for it to open at 12 o'clock on Sunday's, so reckoned it must have something good to recommend it.

Had breakfast and apple pie and enjoyed both, good value for money. Place its self is quite old fashioned but also very quaint. Would certainly return.

Ate here lunchtime with family. Couldn't believe the size of the portions or the prices. Really big portions for about a fiver and beer only £2 a pint. Oldie worldly and friendly pub.

Hemos visitado aquí anteriormente y decidí llamar de nuevo para el té. Pedimos 4 comidas. Las comidas eran servidas y Tomé algunos bocados de mi lasaña cuando me di cuenta de que estaba hecha con carne Misa del gallo. Nos dijeron que la casera y ella no era muy servicial. Como no he comido carne en más de 30 años no fue impresionado con esto. Después de esta falta de atención y preocupación, no volveremos.

Grew up in Outwood but couldn't recall visiting The Thatch in the past. We decided to call in one evening just for drinks. There wasn't a soul in there, such a pity as it is a very old pub, just like the old pubs used to be, not a modern sports bar with televisions blaring. It has comfy seating and had that cosy feel. I bet it is fantastic in the winter with a roaring fire in the grate. The bar lady was very attentive and told us that the pub was independently owned, hence the ability to keep the old charm.If I lived here permanently I would definitely make this my local...too bad the locals of Outwood / Stanley don't!

Came here for a bite to eat as we have pretty much exhausted all other restaurants in Wakefield. Ordered our food and drinks and was told they dont take cards so had to go and get some cash - suprised with anywhere that doesnt take cards these days. My partner asked what was in the shepherds pie and they said just comes with peas and onions- Unfortunately it came with onions, some sort of peppers, tomatoes and sweetcorn in it which if they would have known what it included i wouldnt have ordered this. Although i must say it was tasty - could have had quite a bit more mince in as it was sparce. My partner enjoyed his lamb and the kids meals were reasonable in price and you do get great portions. Another point to mention is that in quiet times its okay but theres only around 20 seats and when it fills up it feels like people are sat almost on top of you and you cant hear your own conversations. Also the mixed grill advertised is actually just a full english breakfast and not a proper mixed grill as one would expect.Would probably return as the food was nice, service okay and prices reasonable.

Came for Sunday lunch with our daughter .... The landlord is very welcoming and is a traditional landlord not many left like him.... Delicious carvery followed by very tasty desserts we will definatly come again 10/10 the hospitality,food and the scenery .... Thankyou

We found this pub to be really delightful , the landlord was most welcoming and really friendly. We sat on the balcony with lovely county side back drop. The food was excellent, we had liver & onions which was really reasonable at £5.00 each. Portions where more the plenty , lots of lovely tasting mash with plenty of tasty liver and lots of lovely veg with really nice gravy it was a traditional dish which we both enjoyed and tasted delicious. The choice on the menu was plentiful with a wide verity of choice to be had which would cater to all tastes. From start of food order to food to arrive was quick. The larger and wine where normal price , very nice atmosphere all in all lovely pub and really tasty/ enjoyable food at a truly affordable price. Would recommend. Kind regards Malc

We called in here with family on a Thursday (steak night) and what a great night we had! I agree with another reviewer that it is an old pub and could do with a little updating, however, the wonderful food and excellent service more than make up for the decor. The food is freshly cooked and delicious, with huge portions for your money. The staff are extremely friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Will definitely eat here again!

Called here on Sunday afternoon because it's much easier than cooking. Now first off, let me get this out of the way... This is an old pub! And as such you will be sat in an old pub, don't expect contemporary decor and lavish seating... It's an old pub, it was painted once! So aside from that you are here for a pint or a bite to eat.. Or both! And you can be sure you won't be disappointed! A smashing beer and cracking Sunday roast, plenty generous too. Staff are all lovely and to top it off.... You get a pudding with your Sunday lunch ! Can't knock that

Busy little gem this pub. Value for money with choice of 3 meats, fresh veg and lovely veiws over Stanley. We had a lovely relaxing meal and they have a well stocked bar too! Great service with a smile. Well worth a visit, can always tell if it's good food with full car park.
