Lovely meal good service nice atmosphere if there was any criticism it would be the lack of a dedicated car park although there's one across the road and the co-op car park 5 minims oway

Wow. What a great day. A quiet Bank Hol with no sunshine was brightened up by a lovely lunch- loved the food, drinks were free flowing and attentive, friendly staff. 10/10

Had a bad experience here last night, I was ID’d for my first alcoholic drink of the evening and on presenting my driving licence (which I obtained 5 years ago) I was told that the ID “wasn’t me” and was “a fake license”. I was told by the bar manager that because I have an old driving license that these are no longer accepted as a valid form of ID according to the government, which is the most bizarre and false information I’ve ever heard. She then told me she was not giving my ID back to me and she was keeping it as it was “fake”. I clearly stated that I needed that as it is my driving license, showed a photograph of my passport and 3 bank cards I had all in my name, however she was only interested in looking at one bank card, I suspect as there was an element of embarrassment. Nonetheless, I got my license back however I won’t be attending here again for a drink with friends - I wonder how many licenses they are taking off innocent overaged people and what they are doing with them? Reply to the owner - I believe suggesting a person possesses false identification and is breaking the law is a serious allegation. I can confirm that the request of my bank card was not required for a second valid form of ID, as you would know a bank card is not a form of identification, but was requested to obtain my driving license back into my possession as the bar manager stated “I’m not giving you this back because it is fake”. I was happy for the police to be informed and my identify checked as they would’ve been able to confirm that I am overage and have a valid driving license, however your staff obviously didn’t think this was required. Could I suggest some further training to your bar staff members, as they seem to believe that “old style driving licenses are counterfeit according to the government”?

Love it here, the place is beautifully decorated with a modern vibe and a lovely atmosphere. I ordered the loaded fries and they were very filling and yum. Definitely would come again.

I would recommend this place. No issues with the service or meals. Plenty to choose from with a mixture of different types of cuisines. Lovely plates and glasses with a generally relaxed environment.

Really lovely restaurant, extensive menu and all food cooked to perfection. Generous portions and quick turnaround. Visited in a group of nine and service was brilliant. Atmosphere was great but then England had just won on penalties! Busy bar to the front and restaurant in the rear coupled with outdoor seating too makes this place perfect for all. Very pleasant evening...I had pollo a la creme which was delicious my husband and my friend had lamb shank which they thought was a tad salty but still very enjoyable...fabulous staff...Excellent service...wine a bit pricey but non the less a fabulous evening 👌well done x

Went on Tuesday lunch with two close friends,celebrating the life of our other dear friend.it was lovely,waiter couldn’t do enough ,nothing too much trouble,one of my friends doesn’t eat any spices,they cooked her a dish from scratch with no garlic in.food was glorious,everything eaten,very unusual.wont hesitate to go again.

Fabulous food all round. I had a giant Yorkshire pudding with a bowl of Camembert in the centre. Pigs in blankets, red cabbage, stuffing and roast potatoes. All one dish!! Gosh what a lot but I loved it! Staff attentive and friendly. Great atmosphere too.

If I could give this place 0 star I would, but unfortunately that's not an option. We dined yesterday with a group of 10 of us - waiting outside for our table to be ready - the lady called us in and then gave our table to someone else? 🫠 We ordered food and drinks at the table and it was just total chaos - not enough staff for the amount of people in the resturant. I originally ordered 'falafel burger' and when it arrived they said 'jackfruit burger' so I immediately said to the girl serving that I didn't order this and I would try it but not 100% sure I'd like it. However, after having a think its not something I actually ordered so why would I eat it? Apparently they don't do falafel burger anymore but the server failed to tell me that....... So they came over with a new menu and I ordered chicken teriyaki bites and chips. The lady said she would rush this through for me as obviously the rest of the party had their meals. The food arrived and I'm not sure how you can get chicken covered in sauce wrong, but they did. The chicken tasted reheated, dry and just generally awful. The chips were undercooked due to been rushed I suppose. When I went to complain the young girl said I would have to pay for the food as I ate it and because we had a check back and everyone said it was fine (WHICH WE DIDNT MAY I ADD) that I would have to pay for the food minus the burger.... I said no I will not be paying for the meal as NO I didn't eat it and NO we didn't have a check back otherwise I would of mentioned it. You would of thought since we spent 280 as a party with them that they would quickly knock the food off, but it took me going backwards and forwards to actually get to the end goal of me not paying for the meal. 0 star for me. The staff have NO customer service skills, very rude and not people I would be employing if I ran a restaurant. I will never come back here. Shocking service

Been meaning to try this place for a while and finally got around to it....absolutely did not disappoint. No negatives whatsoever. Great menu, we had prawns and mussels for starters, stuffed chicken and JD brisket burger for main with sides of onion rings and truffle/parmesan fries. Presentation was wonderful, taste was amazing. Friendly and attentive staff. Background music was good and we were treated to a live singer! Lovely vibe and decor. Brilliant selection of cocktails (we had passion fruit punch and a cheesecake dessert cocktail). A little gem in Horbury! We will definitely be returning and soon!

Excellent all the way round. Nice outdoor area, with outdoor heating. Visited a few times for lunch and have not been disappointed. Quick service and tasty food at a good price. Recommended!

11 friends and I enjoyed a bottomless brunch here today to celebrate two birthdays. We had a fantastic party. The table was lovely and by the front window, the food was absolutely delicious and I can recommend the JD BBQ Brisket burger. I have to say that Summer was absolutely amazing, keeping us supplied with our never ending cocktails. I can heartily recommend this venue.

I collected a large Sunday dinner and a Yorkshire Pudding wrap at probably the busiest time on a Sunday. I ordered in advance and it was ready at the time I requested. Huge portions for both items and even on arrival home they were still hot. Plenty of gravy too! The Sunday dinner was for my husband who is intolerant to gluten and cows milk and it was perfect with everything labelled. Allergies are no problem here. I ordered the wrap because I didn’t think I’d eat a full dinner but I couldn’t even manage that! We’ll definitely be back very soon!

Only been in twice and what a lovely place service was good and the young ladies who work there are so pleasant alway a smile ,who highly recommend this bar.

Friendly staff, nice looking restaurant and good menu. Unfortunately for me the food wasn't up to standard for the price and menu description. The starter of 'Korean Fried Chicken' which was supposed to be 'fried chicken' in a bed of 'asian slaw' was literally some cut up chicken breast that had been cooked and tossed in a sauce. It hadn't been fried and certainly wasn't fried chicken. The asian slaw was clearly a few strips of cucumber and tasted like maybe a few strips of spring onion. For £8.95 it's extremely poor and expected alot more. For main myself, i had lamb shank. The lamb was ridiculously fatty and had little to no meat. When you found the meat it was just over cooked and just not what a lamb shank should be, it should be falling off the bone. It was also supposed to come with 'spring vegetables' , a few green beans and a few slices of courgette is again just poor. On a high note your gravy is absolutely amazing , so your on to a winner with that but I'm sorry again for the price of £16.95 it was poor. Rest of our table got Sunday roasts and thought it was very average, roasts tasted reheated and even the yorkshire puddings were soft and not crispy and just not much going on for the price. Having done reviews on so many restaurants at different times I just felt and you got the vibe the food came and tasted like we was one of the last for Sunday dinner. We was told there was only 2 dinners left when ordering and was even asked if we wanted our bill without asking. All felt rushed and of little quality. I'd rather be told its not available then be served poor quality food and not to the description. In conclusion , if we are being honest for what we was expecting and for what we paid, we expected more but I can only write an honest review.

A nice local restaurant with a great selection of dishes. Staff very friendly, plus lots on hand d to help and serve. This is also a very popular bar that attracts a bustling crowd of drinkers. Food was very tasty, combo starter was very generous and would fed 3 to 4. Wines and beer not cheap but affordable. Can get a little noisy with the pub crowd but the glass partition really helps.

Excellent food and service. The Sunday roast is the best we have had eating out. We are usually disappointed but it was lovely. The service was amazing. We walked in and the restaurant was full. The lady serving us told us we could eat in the bat area. Not an issue as it was lovely sitting there too. We will be back. Thank you

2nd time for Christmas dinner and bitterly disappointed. Sat in the bar area which was turned into part of the restaurant but felt secluded from the atmosphere. The tables didn’t even match up one was higher than the other so didn’t feel like one table as a family. Food came out at separate times, 2 family meme era had finished the desert whilst we were still waiting for ours. No acknowledgement from the owner after complaining and asking for a call back. We was also over charged £80 which we wasn’t told, I only realised the day after and had to ring to get refunded. Very disappointed will not be going back next year

Amazing choice, beautiful food, great atmosphere and the best staff.

Disgraceful behaviour today 26.12.23 boxing day, after being booked for weeks, we were left without food which I ordered from the Xmas menu from a male employee. I offered our choices and to pay the deposits but he told me that wasn't necessary as their were only three of us. When we arrived the waitress told us we couldn't have the Xmas menu as it hadn't been booked in as that. We were given the normal every day menu! Who wants a normal menu on Boxing Day Appalling, she didn't offer to help in any way shape or form. I will never go to this establishment again after walking out without our meal today.

Excellent Christmas Day meal, superb food, staff were great, very professional chef and kitchen staff. This was a huge success as catering for so many people in one sitting cannot be easy but everything was first class. Well done Bistro 42👍

Mixed emotions on our 2nd visit there for our annual Christmas meal/ We are all friends who met up at the former Thornes House Grammar school in 1964, almost 60 years ago. This review is a combination of a 5 star report and a 1 star report. On the positive side, the food was excellant. the reason why we organised a return visit from last year. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about the organisation (or complete lack of, on behalf of the inept management) Our party numbered 16. However, as we took our seats, there were only 15 place settings. On more than one occasion, we brought this numerical deficiency to members of the staff team. Our first course was duly brought to the table. The waiters served us as if there was nothing wrong, despite the fact that 4 of us were rather cramped for space. We (the 4 of us) attempted to consume our starters in a very uncomfortable state. Finally, a member of the staff team noticed that we were not happy, and them proceeded to move 3 of us to an adjoining EMPTY table. we finished our starter course on a different table, separated from our friends!!! Despite this unforgivable mistake, we did manage to enjoy the rest of our food, and began to laugh off the abominable plaanig of the seating arrangement. I am filing this report, 12 hours after our nightmare experience. i purposely did this because my observations on last evenings fiasco would have contained many expletives. The sadest part of the whole evening that The "manager" failed to offer an apology for their shameful lack of organisation

Had a Christmas lunch there. Food was hot. Service was good and for a Christmas lunch involving 30+ covers everything was great. Can't recommend it more.

Taken by my son for my birthday,first visit but really enjoyed the experience, excellent food by two very polite and helpful servers, charcuterie platter to start followed by moules frites, no room for dessert, but looking forward to second visit.

We booked a family Sunday lunch based on strong recommendations and travelled over from Barnsley having booked in advance with a deposit. It was relatively quiet when we arrived but filled up quickly. The young staff were great, friendly and very efficient and our food order was taken quickly. Or drinks arrived soon after ordering and we waited an acceptable period of time given how busy it was. The menu is great with plenty of options without being overbearing. There are some great quirky options based around Sunday lunch which I will definitely explore next time we go. Overall the food was excellent and fairly reasonably priced given the quality. We ordered a range of dishes between us including Sunday lunch, stroganoff, and Gyros and the kids menu is great. Overall a really lovely afternoon and we will definitely return soon.

Ordered fish and chips for 2 of us. The haddock was perfectly cooked, not greasy at all. The fish was really large. Absolutely delicious. Definitely would order this again. Servers were brilliant. We haven’t eaten here for souplike of months but food tonight excellent

Great atmosphere but food took over an hour to arrive and when it did the chicken was soooo dry. Gyros not authentic and pizza was unusual.

I have visited a few times now over the last month or so and have been really happy. The staff are all very friendly and helpful, the music and overall atmosphere of the establishment is great too. The food is also fab - we've been several times during peak hours and haven't been let down by any aspect of our meals. The cocktail menu is also varied and I'm yet to try one I don't like. Overall very positive experiences, and we will continue to come here in the future!

Bank holiday weekend so some drunken idiots spoiled it. Server don't very engaged, didn't ask if we wanted wine list or if any dietary requirements. Overall a lovely meal at a decent price!

We went for lunch to celebrate a birthday yesterday. What a wonderful place this is! The starters were were so tasty, from Burrata and beetroot to garlic mushrooms with crostini, just so beautifully presented and dishes you didn’t want to end. For mains the chicken dishes were exquisite and made two people very happy. A truffle burger went down extremely well with one of our party. The wild mushrooms and pasta were amazing and superior to anything I’ve had for a very long time. This place uses quality ingredients has good portions and a chef who knows how to please, just brilliant food. The front of house staff looked after us so well and are a credit to this establishment. Went for Sunday Lunch. As usual, the staff & service were excellent, but the food (although tasty) was a bit tepid. I know we could have asked for it to be rectified, but it was one of those borderline things. The place was extremely busy at the time, so maybe the kitchen was a bit overwhelmed. It won't stop us going back though as it's the first time we've ever had an issue. Thanks all!

Came to celebrate my niece's 30th 8th January 23. It's absolutely spot on here food gorgeous even the vegetarian option was very good. Service attentive but not over bearing. It was just fantastic. Very highly recommended

Never been here before, normally venture into wakefield. We went for a meal elsewhere and decided to enter here for a quick drink, what a surprise. Glad we popped in, stayed a little longer than expected and will be back for food. Great service, fantastic atmosphere.

Very nice and reasonably priced for a family meal.

We’ve eaten at Bistro 42 several times now and can honestly say that we’ve always been really happy with the food and service. The meals, especially the Sunday roast, have always been delicious - the mash potatoes alone are amazing! The service by Abi and her colleagues is always prompt, friendly and professional. The choice of drinks is good and even includes gluten free lager which very few bars and restaurants supply. This is a small but significant addition for a gluten intolerant customer who loves a beer! Bistro 42 is also one of the few places that make Margarita’s - the manager Jamie makes one of the best classic Margaritas I’ve ever had. We love visiting this place and highly recommend it.
