We stayed for the May Day bank holiday weekend. This is a great location for walking in the Yorkshire dales. Room was nice but the jacuzzi bath was amazing. Suzanne and her husband clearly work really hard to produce nice food and look after their customers. My only thoughts is that they need more help and support. I don't think this is an independent pub .I think they are working so hard for someone else and I hope it's appreciated, they made are stay really good.

This is a cosy old fashioned pub with beautiful surroundings. If you are looking for luxury - this is not the place. However if you are looking for pet friendly rustic ramblings with amazing food and good beer, then this is the place for you. We will definitely return.

Visited wutn my husband and brother. Many years ago we visited this pub when we were kids, in those days it was a busy pub filled with farmers, hikers and climbers from the crag. We as kids would be out side with pop and crisps. In today's climate it seemed souless, one or two dining and maybe 5 others, gone was the atmosphere and the hustle and bustle such a shame.

Ate & stayed here in October & had an overall bad experience which was reviewed on their hotel tripadvisor siteIn summary our room was cold & basic the window was broken & there was a crack in the bathroom sink The shower curtain did not fully fit round the roll top bath & as a result it leaked onto the floor & soaked it I slipped & fell on getting out The food is advertised as being of a high standard but was poor to say the least I had fish pie which is the worst I’ve ever hadThe staff were friendly but not well trained & they had a cold buffet at breakfast time which is contrary to COVID guidelines Only one member of staff wore a mask Other than that there was no face coverings at allThe reply to our review on the hotel reviews from the owner suggested to me that the shower curtain goes INSIDE the bath & also mistakenly said that it did fit suggesting it’s was my fault that it leaked which I found very condescending!!!All other parts of the reply were excuses I would tell anyone thinking of staying not to expect any boutique hotel or gastropub or you will be very disappointed

Don’t believe the write up on their website, or the delicious offerings on their online menu and social media. On our visit there was an extremely limited unexciting menu of which some items were unavailable. 3 different sorts of pie, fish, burger or steak was our choice. The food when it eventually arrived was mediocre, my main course had to be returned. When my meal reappeared my husband had finished his meal. It still wasn’t that good but as we’d already been sat there 90 minutes I ate as much as I could minus the chips which were rock hard. I ordered a dessert and my husband ordered a coffee. By the time my dessert arrived 45 minutes later (after reminding the waitress) my husband had finished his coffee and was nearly asleep. The pudding, chocolate fondant was awful, extremely sweet with no chocolate flavour, the espresso ice cream was actually peanut butter semi fredo and the chocolate soil was missing. On mentioning this to the waitress along with the long wait she just said it was a different chef. Still not acceptable. By the time we were ready to pay it was 10.30pm, we’d been there 2.5hrs, there was no one senior around to raise our concerns to so we paid the young waitress and left. I emailed the Tennants Arms the following morning but sadly they have declined to reply. Please see the pic of my sad excuse for a pudding, then have a look at the stunningly pretty desserts they are showing on social media....

We had eaten at the Tennants Arms prior to lockdown and as the tables were well spaced we thought it would be a safe bet post-pandemic. How wrong we were! A one-way system with separate entrance and exit were the only reminders of the current guidance for the hospitality sector. The staff were not wearing masks or visors - particularly worrying as they stretched right over customers when serving food, instead of leaving the dishes at arm’s length. Service was very slow and somewhat disorganised. My wife was served the wrong sort of pie and the advertised vegetables (plural) amounted to a very small portion of uninteresting cabbage. We did not stay for a dessert or coffee and would have left earlier still was it not for the very low incidence of Covid-19 in Craven at present.

We went on an “eat out to help out” night. Got the feeling they were short staffed and feeling the pressure. Staff were friendly enough but not very professional. Two stood near us and said “do you want to serve them or shall I?” Food was pretty poor especially the fish pie which was approx 10cm across and 2cm deep. Could have been a starter. Served with a small scoop of limp vegetables. Not even worth the half price we paid for it. The food took ages to come. They forgot to take our dessert order. Which was eventually served late at 10pm. We did get a complimentary round of drinks for our wait. We did not return and wouldn’t recommend. Go to the Queens Arms in Littondale instead.

Food was okay if glorified basic pub grub is your thing. Not cheap for what it is. Service was unbelievably slow and poor given not many customers on a nice, warm Friday evening in August.Dessert took 45 minutes NOT to appear before being fobbed off with no excuse and a refund. From order to delivery took 2 1/2 hours for 2 people - 1 starter; 2 mains and 2 desserts (failed to turn up). Empty Glasses left out on tables in garden for more than 2 hours. No sense of service and poor customer ethos! Staff were surly and sloppy. Little attempt to respect COVID-19 protocols even after a reminder. Clearly understaffed; poorly trained and poorly managed. Overall impression was poor! Someone needs to take a grip!

What a shame this restaurant has changed hands. We are local and have eaten here many times. The roast dinner was dreadful. The gravy was black and greasy and tasted of soy sauce. The accompanying vegetables as described such as cauliflower cheese, roasted vegetables and roast potatoes were missing and it came with stir fry kale and carrot shards. The beef looked like a cows tongue curled up in a ‘c’ shape it was that dry. We were starving after an 8 mile walk but even then I couldn’t eat the leathery beef. We offered some polite and constructive feedback to be told we could have a complimentary cup of tea! It’s a shame they didn’t offer us a chance to visit in the future for a second chance. We paid our bill and will probably not return. Very poor customer service.

There was a mix-up with the starters that meant two of the dishes did not turn up with the others, they did eventually arrive, but after the others had finished. An apology was made and the two originally missing starters removed from the bill. All in all the food was pretty good, not outstanding but certainly worth a visit. My garlic mushrooms were divine and the main course steak and ale pie good. We skipped puddings. At some points the service could have been described as a tad frosty, we were constantly having to remind staff of our reasonable but forgotten requests. Worth a visit, reasonable value

Booked a meal here with my wife for our wedding anniversary. I ordered steak and asked for it medium rare, it came out completely over cooked and tough as old boots. No one came to ask how the meals were like they normally do, and even when collecting the plates the waitress didn’t ask so I had to tell her about the steak. She just said “okay” and walked off! Waited a while longer to see if we were going to be asked about desserts but no one came so gave up. Asked for the bill at the bar and the person in charge didn’t know about the steak issue, I also mentioned the waitress’ poor attitude. He also failed to apologise and offered to remove the charge of one starter to compensate. My starter was nice, wife said her meal was average - not what you expect for the prices.

Highly recommended for a pitstop, for an evening or for lunch or dinner. Nice setting, lots of outdoor seating and a beer garden too. Although not as extensive as modern pub menus, there is a good selection including steak, lamb, fish, suet pudding and a vegetarian option. A two course meal will cost around £20 as this is home cooked traditional food and not a fast-food venue but there are signs advertising eat-in or takeaway pizza.

We have passed the Tennants Arms many times but have never tried it. Recently they have advertised pizza to take away so we thought we would give it a try. For £7.50 we were expecting at the very least an authentic Italian pizza but instead we were presented with a burnt very small meal with not a bit of mozzarella in sight. It reminded me of the cheap frozen type that would cost a pound or less. We will not be calling again. We stayed two nights along with other family members. Although the location is very beautiful, the hotel is substandard. My English breakfast had several hairs in it. The bedroom was nice and had a good view, but on a closer turned out to be less than ideal. There were patches of inexpertly applied polyfilla that no one had bothered to paint over, peeling wallpaper, a bathroom door that didn't close with a long-rusted-shut mechanism, and a population of dead flies trapped between panes of glass. Outside was a staff smoking area, where we heard them complaining about the guests. This typified a dank atmosphere of unwelcome, and it felt very much like the hotel owners were just interested in doing just enough and making money, with no actual hospitality ethos (of course businesses have to make money, but also with some genuine customer focus and desire to offer the service they are supposed to). On our second day we returned to the room to find it hadn't been cleaned. Instead, there was a plate of coffee and milk sachets outside and a laminated card saying that the cleaner had no spare key to get in. Now, if you can go to the trouble of getting a laminated card done, then it seems to me that you can get yourself to Timpsons and have a key cut instead. This looks like an actual investment in sub-standard service. The main (male) staff member was helpful at first but later on was quite rude, poorly dressed (gym wear) and clearly both untrained and unsuited for the hospitality industry. The whole place was suffused with a lackadaisical couldn't-care-less attitude that made us guests feel both undervalued and eager to leave as soon as we could. It's a really beautiful location with great walks and scenery. We'll return there, but not to the Tennant's Arms.

My wife and I were staying in the area and fancied fish and chips for our tea. Never having sampled the food at The Tennants Arms before, I looked on the website to check that they served fish and chips. They did and it would cost £12.95 each. We duly arrived, easily found a table in a very quiet pub and were told where to find some menus. To our surprise, the price on the menu was £14.95 per portion. When giving our order to a woman member of staff I pointed out the discrepancy. Her reaction was “nothing to do with me, I only work here”. I suggested she mentioned it to whoever was in charge. She came back and told us that it was an oversight and would be corrected.

Firstly to start with the drinks, I ordered an appletizer to which came in a warm glass, the bottle had been picked off the display shelf as there was none in the fridge, it came with no ice so was particularly warm, we then went to order our food we ordered a small fish and chips with mushy peas, and a small scampi with fries and garden peas as stated on the menu, when it arrived it was a small fish and chips with garden peas and a small scampi with fries and salad, we didn't make a fuss as we were starving and ate the food to which was adequate. We then waited for someone to clear our plates, the pub was clearly empty and the waiterS (may I add) had both seen we had finished yet continued to avoid clearing the table, we then prompted them to ask about desserts and they finally cleared the table and we ordered the salted caramel profiteroles, when they arrived (clearly bought in) it then became pretty apparent the cream was off as it tasted of eggs, The waiters didn't seem to have any clue as to what was going on what food they were offering or which menu to use, no uniform- one of our waiters was wearing adidas shorts trainers and a sports top as if he had just been to the gym, one had an apron on others didn't, no one came to check our food was ok etc.. it was all a bit of a shambles really to say we stopped off as we heard that it had recently been taken over and the menu offering looked lovely upon first glance,

We ordered the fish and chips which were excellent as the batter was crisp and light, the fish firm flaky and moist; the chips nicely cooked in all the nicest fish and chips in while. Will definitely be calling in again.

Stayed for one night with my wife using a wowcher. Firstly I never leave reviews but felt our stay deserved one. The hotel itself is located in a beautiful, scenic location and the property oozes character. We found all of the staff to be very friendly and accommodating and an e-mail enquiry regarding a meal reservation was returned with a confirmation phone call the same morning. Our room was clean, spacious and very warm. The bar area had a good range of ales as well as an open log fire, which added to the ambience. Now onto our meal. Can only say it was fantastic! We had between us goats cheese bon bons and duck rolls for starters followed by steak and lamb as mains. All perfectly cooked and presented. We then shared a warm chocolate fudge desert (couldn't eat any more) and again delicious. After a good night's sleep we had a full English breakfast, with cereals available if required.

We booked a meal for 34 people for a friend's birthday after walking from Malham Tarn. We were warmly welcomed and the room was nicely decorated for us with Happy Birthday banners (even with the right age!). All of the food came out on time, 34 meals within a few minutes of each other, all hot and delicious. It was a lovely party and we appreciate all of the effort they made for us.

Stayed for 2 nights and couldn't of had a better time if we tried. The people that rate this place like 1 star are those sour saddos who aren't happy with anything in life and feel the need to complain about any and everything cos they don't have anything better to do i think. Chris and Pete were great hosts - catered to our every request and made us feel like family. Lots of great walks in the local area if your into that. It is very welcoming of dogs and the food was 5 star. To top it off it was very cheap for what we had. Id recommend for anyone to come here!

Possibly one of the worst places I have ever stayed. We had been greatly looking forward to a night away in what looked like a lovely place from the website. How very misleading. We should have guessed when asked to pay up front on arrival. Had we seen the room first we would have left. We were in a 'Premium ' double room. On entering the room there were marks clearly visible on all the walls and dirty finger marks all around the light sockets and door handles. General dust and cobwebs. The mattress was lumpy with springs protruding and bizarrely just a sheet over it....no mattress protector or topper. The pillows were as flat as pancakes. Even with two it was still not sufficient. The room was cold, there was no hairdryer (a standard item), and no bulbs in the unbelievably ugly bed side lamps...4 bulbs missing in all. The plate on the shower mechanism was hanging off and there were no toiletries.

We ate as we stayed in the hotel and they allowed us to have our Pomeranian inside.

We visited on BH Monday, it was very quiet but the welcome was warm and friendly. The beer was well kept and the food excellent. I had the sausage and mash and my wife opted for the beer battered fish. For desert, we both went for the apple tartin which was absolutely delicious. We would definitely return.

We stopped at this restaurant on Sunday afternoon about 4pm. It was not busy at all nice and quiet, great window views. Ordered 3 drinks and 3 sandwiches. It was all going so well until we realised that we have been waiting for 3 cold sandwiches with chips almost an hour! Everything after that turned around significantly. The waiting time for a sandwich was unreasonable long. I would understand if the restaurant was buzzing and hectic but there was only another couple sat next to us and they got wrong order as well. No apology! We won't come back for sure.

We (myself husband and two children aged 7 and 5) decided to call for Sunday lunch on our way back home from a weekend in the Yorkshire Dales as we have been many times before and has always been good, and also they are dog friendly which with our new puppy was also a must.

We arrived here after a long walk from Grassington. Immediately the lady behind the bar offered our dog water and biscuits. It was a little dark inside and very warm, but very welcoming. My husband had soup which he said was delicious. I opted for the cheddar melt which was a posh cheese on toast, Also served with it were well cooked chunky chips and a salad. It was delicious and set me up for the return walk to Grassington. A very friendly hostelry.

We went to eat here after a walk, looking forward to a pint and some food. We used to visit the pub regularly years ago but it has been a long time since our last visit. The decor is a bit dated now but the service was acceptable and the beer we has was nice, glasses were clean etc. We ordered sandwiches and have never been so disappointed with a meal.

Called in at the end of a strenuous walk on the dales around Kilnsey. Its a little dark inside but the Tetleys Cask and good selection of sandwiches more than made up for that. Dogs and walkers are very welcome and we would call again if we were in the area.
