We stayed overnight having spent the day at (a very wet) Kilnsey Show. We were welcomed by the two staff who had clearly had a busy day but were helpful, smiley and flexible. Our evening meal was delicious - cauliflower soup and prawn cocktail followed by scampi and pie of the day. Sadly having thoroughly enjoyed our large starters we couldn't finish our mains - we should have paced ourselves better! Our twin bedded room was comfortable, in-room refreshments plentiful and the bathroom clean with loads of hot water. NB. this is an old inn - it is quirky and interesting but not sleek modern luxury so give it a miss if that's what you want. The panelled breakfast room was a lovely place for a relaxed and plentiful Full English. The staff could not have been more helpful and welcoming - we very much hope to be back next year.

Wow. What a lovely old building, loads of lovely features. 2 couples run this place and they work so hard to make your stay enjoyable. Room was clean, comfy and big. Breakfast was really tasty, well cooked and presented, enough to keep you going all day. Evening meal, plenty of choice. Steak pie, delicious, loads of steak. Cagun chicken really tasty and the Scampi was delicious. The service these people give is first rate, they never stop working, always a smile on their faces. You go as a customer but leave as a friend. Highly recommend.

We stayed for the May Day bank holiday weekend. This is a great location for walking in the Yorkshire dales. Room was nice but the jacuzzi bath was amazing. Suzanne and her husband clearly work really hard to produce nice food and look after their customers. My only thoughts is that they need more help and support. I don't think this is an independent pub .I think they are working so hard for someone else and I hope it's appreciated, they made are stay really good.

We've been eating at The Tennents on and off for several years with mixed experiences mostly really enjoyable. On this visit, the pie was very full but the pieces of meat were on the chunky side and, as a result, not so tender. (Small issue. It wasn't a true pie because it wasn't fully encased in pastry). The pastry was bit on the pale side. The cumberland sausage filling seemed a bit soft compared to previous experiences. The broccoli and carrots were undercooked, but that might be personal taste. Overall the meals were filling and reasonably tasty but it wasn't a great dining experience. The service, though, was excellent.

This hotel does not deserve the bad reviews. It is a lovely old hotel some of it dating back to Jacobean times. It's set in lovely countryside. Our room for the price was very good a nice big bed Comfy mattress and clean bathroom. Ok so the doors looked as though they could of done with a wipe down and behind the secondary glazing the old stonework was very marked but it is an old building. Downstairs was very pleasant and the gentleman who runs it worked really hard. Breakfast was good and served by a lovely lady and didn't have to wait long for it. All in all a very good experience.

Called in on our way home after trying to get a meal at several other pub style venues, some of which didn't appear over busy. So the Tennent-s Arms was the last attempt (there are only so many pubs you can walk into and get turned away) Anyway we were welcomed here and had great friendly service, great food. We had Ribeye steak which was not served in the usual pub style steak and chips, it was really good., loved it.. Yes, perhaps the decor is in need of some tlc and it is quite dark inside, due to it being an old building, but we enjoyed our meal and would call again.

Dark, gloomy, empty bar rooms. Lots of old dark furniture, bare walls. Needs a total revamp. Suggest bright cushions, pictures on walls, fresh flowers, spotless cleaning. Totally devoid of customers. Food more costly than same at all local pubs. Food just so so. Fish n chips "small" portion was extremely small for £10; ripoff. Menu so ordinary and yet expensive. Why don't u actually try to entice customers in? See menu of Masons Arms Gargrave for a good example. No manager around and obvious lack of management. Serving girl however very friendly and helpful. In a nutshell - update decor, stage it with a theme, make menu interesting and reduce prices to vie with local pubs. Advertise heavily, offers such a free pint with main meals, free glass of wine,. Become known for unusual and interesting menu items -? Woodfired pizza, satay chicken skewers, paella, as well as sensibly priced staples.

We visited The Tennants whilst visiting family in the area. It was our 2nd choice of venue, but next time it'll be our 1st ! An older style Yorkshire restaurant/inn, serving classic pub fare with a contemporary twist, elevating flavours just enough to tweak above the norm. Trout 'from down the road' (or was it 'next door' ?) with a Cajun Crust, and Tennants Burger with Bacon & Chorizo are 2 fine examples. So, good quality, locally sourced produce in the hands of a very competent Chef, make for a taste experience. Portion size and price were spot on. Service was extremely welcoming and friendly, we were looked after efficiently without imposition. Well worth a visit.....As we will again !

So many good meals eaten at The Tennants over 50 years....but gosh it has dropped off a cliff. I can't blame the young staff they try so hard to make it work but if the microwave broke down everything would cease. A coat of grey paint alone cannot solve its problems. The website surely must be stretching the truth within an inch of its life.....food is no better than bang below average but certainly not good (but at least hot). I strongly dispute the claim that food is locally sourced unless you think Birds Eye is based in Skipton...Please can the current owners sell it to someone within enough money to drag it back to where it was...and then throw away the microwave to resume a level that might resemble a country pub that cares........so sad, I know its tough out there for hospitality but this completely misses the mark. Sorry but!

We had an enjoyable dinner a little pricy but good food & staff are good at their jobs. The bar was busy & had a roaring fire & a good upbeat atmosphere, mixed ages. We love the dales and have visited the Tennant’s Arms over many years, particularly enjoying what we considered to be the best carvery anywhere. So as a treat for my father’s 80th birthday we eagerly booked for a Sunday outing. On reflection it has been a few years since our last visit and oh dear, what a disappointment our visit was.....Gone is the carvery with three or four meat offerings in plentiful supply, accompanied by around 10 different veg options and help yourself fresh meat gravy. Instead what we found was a three option hot meal choice of roast beef, fish and chips or steak and ale pie, at a relatively pricy £14.95 per person. Served on tables covered with cafe style cheap plastic tablecloth (and not particularly clean), there were small portions of veg (carrot, broccoli, cauliflower and mange tout) shared between two, and what seemed like standard packet gravy. In all honesty a very average pub meal spoiling the previously wonderful reputation of this establishment. Very sad!!!!!!

We have been visiting this pub occasionally for several years now and would have rated it 4 or even 5, but our most recent visit was somewhat of a disappointment. Quality of the crag burger was very mediocre, meat was very dry, as was the bun. The other meals were ok. When we came to pay we were charged more than the price stated in the menu and were given the excuse that it must have been an old one that had been missed when they were updated. No attempt was made to adjust our bill and the implied comment was 'tough'.

Today we went back with the whole family and initially was disappointed to find menus on the table as we were looking forward to a repeat of last time but, that didn't last long. There was a choice of three roasts, (beef, turkey & pork) pie of the day ( peppered pork) lasagne, & fish. The food arrived hot and plenty of it. Visited the Kilnsey show this week and popped into the Tennant Arms for a pint, it was a nice day so normally we would have sat outside, however on this occasion the management at the Tennants had decided to use what i could only describe as a mobile disco based in the parking area to the front of the pub - we couldn't hear ourselves think and the outdoor seating area was all but deserted ( the DJ appeared to be the only one enjoying it, bopping away with his headphones on, by himself). So we went inside to get our drinks and found a seat as far away from the noise as possible (still very loud even inside) another couple came and sat near by, also complaining that they had come for a quiet drink. Anyway we had one pint and left - not everybody wants disco music blaring out at full volume, especially in a country pub, i would go to Leeds on a Saturday night if i wanted to listen to that rubbish.

A lovely old hotel in a gorgeous spot in the Wharfe valley. However, it looks and feels like it's stuck in the 1980s. Ordering our food was the strangest experience for a long while. Even after having having gone back to confirm my outside table number I was asked by the barman to order my food from the waitress who was about 5 yards away. I duly did and was presented with a chit to return to the bar to pay - very odd! I was then presented with a small tray of cutlery and a few sachets of vinegar, salt, pepper and tartare sauce. I enquired if they had any ketchup and was told that this would have to be served at the time our meals arrived (and it was!) - again, just odd! To be fair the food was perfectly fine and we ate it all - good scampi, decent steak and a big helping of sausage and mash for our son. Although we ate outside in the perfectly pleasant garden, the inside of the pub/hotel looks like a flash-back to the 1980s. The layout of the bare and varnished tables is so unappealing. It wouldn't take much effort to lift the place to match some of its nearby rivals (Fountaine, Angel, etc). I'd go back again in similar circumstances (ie for a no-nonsense pub-grub offering) but it wouldn't be on my list as a "venue" place to take visitors. Shame, because it should and could be one of the best in the area.

Wanted to stay in a pub in the Wensleydale area with good beer, food and accommodation (in that order). The Tennant Arms definitely fitted the description so booked it for a weekend and wasn't disappointed. Would highly recommend.

Food tasted good, bread and butter pudding was delicious. However the servings are MASSIVE and I find that takes my appetite away! Service average, more bar than resturant. But good food for the location.

We stayed here for one night. The rooms were really lovely and the bathroom we had in our room was amazing. We ate in the evening and the food was excellent. Especially the slow cooked pork belly!!!! Breakfast in the morning was first class. The staff were friendly and there was a generally cosy atmosphere about the whole pub. We were on our way to Scotland so will definitely remember to stay again on our halfway stop.

......................we walked in for some lunch and stood at the bar for 5 mins with nobody in sight, eventually a man who looked like a chef came into the bar to pick up the post, my partner asked him if they were serving, he replied "yes " and then walked off. We stood there another couple of minutes, still didn't see any staff, so decided to leave. We were glad we did as we had a lovely lunch up the road at the Blue Bell in Kettlewell.

This was by far the best carvery we have ever had. I didn't know whether to eat my meal or climb it. I think there was at least three different meats. We just happened to stop there on the off chance they were still serving. They were very happy to serve.

stayed here last minute , the hotel room was excellent . the best we have stayed in in some time bathroom fantastic marvellous views from bedroom. the staff were very friendly and helpful from the barman to the manager, but best of all was the chef Paul .the kitchen was closed when we arrived .Paul gave up his day off and made us a meal it was superb his home made deserts were delicious. he is a very talented young chef. I believe this is a new manager and team running hotel now they certainly work very well together .not forgetting the cleaner who is doing a great job. looking forward to our next visit

Absolutely awful. From the moment we arrived, the barstaff gave the impression that we weren't wanted. There were ten of us and we were in there for three hours or so. Unfortunately the next pub is miles away and we had to go the Tennant for a second night. If this pub didn't have a captive audience it would go bust.

Excellent carvery meats and a huge selection of delicious vegetables made this Sunday lunch well worth waiting for (we had been searching for somewhere to eat for a couple of hours!). The deserts were wonderful (if a little indulgent!) too. Well worth a visit if you are in the area. Good value at £9.95 for two courses.

Wouldn’t recommend booking Craven Heifer as it was cancelled 3 days before my visit. It had been booked for 8 weeks. Phoned up to be told renovation work going on. But had an email to say they had overbooked. Drove past and the pub was open with no sign of work going on. Very disappointing!!

We had a lovely couple of nights in this charming pub/hotel. Our room was comfy, spotlessly clean and warm. The food in the restaurant was excellent both breakfasts and dinners. The staff friendly and the place had a lovely cosy friendly feel. Would definitely return and recommend.
