We had not been to the Tea Room for over three years and were delighted to find it is homely as ever, with good tea and delicious cakes, all provided at bargain prices. This is a real gem.

Chose to end a long run with friends here, and we were not disappointed. Warm welcome and excellent home made cake. We say in the shady outside garden and were very pleased for stopping here. Recommended.

We've been visiting Dorchester Abbey tearoom ( aka Lettice's) for about 30 years now and we still love it. In the old days you sat inside with anyone who happened to be there at a big round table and helped yourself to whichever cakes you fancied and totted up your own bill on a slate at the end. We loved that! It felt so trusting! Nowadays it's more like an ordinary tearoom and you order and pay before you eat but the homemade cakes are just as good as they always were and so is the tea. The volunteers are helpful and friendly and there is plenty of room to sit outside (and a decent toilet). I recommend walking from Wittenham Clumps across the fields and over the river to look at the Abbey at have tea at Lettice's...

We stopped off here by chance after seeing a sign in front of Dorchester Abbey. The place was just about to close at 5pm but we managed to quickly get a slice of the lemon icing cake and some hot chocolates. We were not disappointed. The slices well slabs of cake were very generous indeed and so lovely and fresh too. Well worth a visit if you like to try lovely home made cake

We've visited four or five times now, usually a pleasant experience if very busy of a weekend afternoon, with everything laid out communally and with pretty china and decadent cakes. There isn't always gluten free provision, and our last visit put us off rather after the guy serving us made several jokes about how we could just have vegan cakes if we were that "fussy". I couldn't stomach staying for tea after that, but hope to pluck up the courage to try again next year. Generally the volunteers are able and friendly, but the last experience was pretty offputting.

Still a nice place and setting but the quality of cakes was not the best ! Tea was great and the rooms fantastic but the cakes were dry at the edges as they have been left out too long! Still great value, dogs only allowed outside.

We have been visiting the tea rooms since 2001 when we moved into the area and always loved going there. However, things have really gone downhill and we will not be returning. I was there today and ordered a piece of lemon drizzle cake and all was well until it turned up at the counter. I could hardly believe my eyes, the portion provided was so thin you could see the plate though the holes in it. I complained about this and got no reaction which annoyed me. The lady behind the counter disappeared and was replaced by another so I raised the same complaint. Their reaction was to sell me another equally thin place thus doubling the price. This was followed by another lady appearing at the counter that started telling me off for complaining about the portion sizes on the grounds that they were running a charity. Couldn't help noticing the tables were virtually empty, perhaps other people have avoided confrontation and just voted with their feet. Charity or not, their attitude to a paying customer and portion sizes for what they were charging was outrageous.

We saw this lovely Tea room on a visit to the Abbey, unfortunately it was closed on Sunday morning. We looked through the window and it looks very quaint inside, the tables laid with traditional crockery. Hopefully will return and sample when they are open.

I visited on a Saturday afternoon, for afternoon tea. Warmly welcomed to this oasis of home baking and lovely atmosphere. Tables are shared and many cakes, scones and a fruit pie or two are displayed. Prices are very reasonable, the food is all baked by, and the café is staffed by, volunteers. My cream tea was delightful, cold clotted cream and jam served along with the scone. Friendly service and the staff were attentive and helpful as I asked for a few glasses of cold water on such a hot day. My thanks and appreciation

To my knowledge the tea rooms are only open on a Sunday 2.30 5.00 pm. It is the best afternoon tea and cakes I have experienced. Once again my wife and I took some friends to the tea room, and once again a great experience. All fresh cakes baked by members of the community, and the people working there are completely volentery. You have the option of inside where there are 2 large tables, which you share so great experience meeting like minded people, or outside in the abbey garden on wooden bench, where you are served through a hatch. Prices are minimal, and all proceeds to local charity. It really is old England, and feels like time stopped in a magical village in the heart of Oxfordshire. if you are Visiting from another country, you will be mesmorised.

Went for tea with two friends to these tearooms. Fortunately for me, my friend has recently moved to Dorchester and had made a gluten free cake, knowing I was visiting. The tables were full of lovely cakes and scones, all very reasonably priced. Now my friend is there, my fellow coeliacs will definitely be catered for. Well done one and all.

We decided on Sunday morning to try the Red Lion for lunch, and booked a table for 1330. We arrived and were met by efficient staff who were expecting us and offered us a choice of table. Drinks were ordered from a knowledgeable waiter and arrived quickly, mine being a very well-kept pint from tge local Amwell Springs brewery. We both chose beef from an extremely well thought-out menu which again arrived after only a short wait. The meat was beautifully cooked and presented on a large plate with very well cooked greens, carrots and a freshly-made Yorkshire puddings. Sides of cauliflower cheese and roast potatoes were excellent, probably the best roasties I've had, and the horseradish was similarly delicious. We both cleared our plates and the side dishes. Utterly gorgeous, go and see for yourself.
