Called into this cafe this morning and I had a big breakfast. Lovely prepared & presentated food and piping hot. Lovely service and atmos 👌very impressed at a very reasonable price.!

First time visiting with my partner. Gorgeous food and lovely staff.

Huge portions of traditional food. Steak pie and Sheppards pie both served with 3 veg and either mashed potatoes or chips, plus large cheese and tomato sandwich and a very large chip butty for my daughter. A great place that feeds local people cheaply and without any pretentiousness at all.

Basic traditional street cafe no frills. Cheap as chips or should I same spam and chips which is on the menu. Outside seating available weather permitting.

This cafe is the best homemade food always served piping hot and taste lovely and really good value for money nothing is two much for the staff I don’t know how the owner found so many lovely staff a warm atmosphere sat out side today and lovely lady brought bowl of water out for the dog only problem we have is that we live in York we wish it was nearer

Not been here in years,it is still great. The food is homecooked. Still propper chips,you can tell how good it is because it is nearly always busy. The prices have gone up a bit but still not too costly and well worth it to eat good food. The staff are very friendly and they tend to stay working there which shows it must be a nice place to work.

Rude staff and expensive for what it is. Very cramped. Not kid friendly. Maybe they're nice if you're a local or a regular?

Great food and staff. Very clean. Only issues are no Ash browns with the breakfast and that the chairs are fixed in place

The food is excellent, they have loads of your old favourites such a spam and horlicks and lemon and lime which you don't see in cafe's often. Staff are friendly and polite and the restaurant is clean. Could only find 2 negatives. First are the tables as the chairs are fixed to them with metal bars so you can't move them back to create more space so for larger fellows like me, they are uncomfortable. Second is their breakfast. Like the rest of the food it is on the expensive side but not over priced but it has no hash browns and non are offered. This is a big omission for me. The best thing they do thou is their Jam Sponge with Custard! £3.60 and its gorgeous!

A very busy cafe, great service, food was excellent and exceptional value for money. Very clean. Would recommend anyone to call in and try anything on the menu.

Purchased my friend a chip butty the other day as well as our tea and hot chocolate, we have never had a problem before, but the chips tasted so grease that she left nearly the whole sandwich. She even tried to mask the taste with vinegar, but even that didn't help. I was so disappointed that we left, saying that we would not return. We have been going since we were 17 and are now both 68. So we have eaten a lot of meals over the years. It's a shame, don't know what happened on that day. We all have one offs. But they cost you customers. Thank you, Mrs, susan Smith.

Wanted decent fish and chips for our visitor from France and we were not disappointed. Best chips ever ,and super fresh beautifully cooked fish. Friendly staff completed a very pleasant experience, definitely be visiting again !

Popped in after dropping my van down the road. This is the best greasy spoon I’ve been to in nearly 10 years, phenomenal breakfast and lovely staff. To call it a greasy spoon is almost a disservice. Slightly disappointed now that it’s not closer to where I live. 👍🏻

Have to give this 5 stars, the food is delicious. My wife and I both had quiche, chips, coleslaw and salad. Really enjoyed it also excellent and friendly service by Nicky.

Excellent home cooked fresh food, at good prices. Well established long running cafe with it's regulars and long standing staff. Staff are always busy but friendly and helpful. Had a breakfast recently which was fab, but have eaten several dishes, their chips are homecooked and wonderful.

Gorgeous food. The only downside is they don't have a card machine for you to pay but theres a hole in the wall a 2 minute walk away so it's not that bad.

Everyone we go to Castleford we.come here. We love it it's small busy and tightly spaced but it's good grub for little money. Not.kuch veggie options though

Busy cafe next to the market hall. Full of families out for a shop or meeting up. There is a good choice of items on the menu, not trendy but traditional, good value food from breakfasts through to roast dinners. Coffee and tea are good too.

First time I've been here in 30 years! It's a nice, budget, cafe. I had a sausage and bacon sandwich, it was massive and delicious.

I usually call in here if i am in town at dinner time as the steak pie is excellent,all the food is really good and also good value.

I've been visiting this cafe since being a little girl with my family. Food it always lovely, atmosphere great & service fast considering how busy it always is. Prices are starting to grow a bit but you are getting home made fresh food everytime

Been coming to this cafe since I was a child, so holds lots of nostalgia/find memories, and it has never changed in that time!! Most main meals are £5.50, served with chips or mash and come with 3 veg, all home made. The chips are proper chip pan chips, which are my fave!! Usually get a roast pork dinner, which is strange as I don't usually eat pork by this is thin sliced meat, covered in gravy with a Yorkshire pudding & stuffing. You get carrots, cabbage and mushy peas, all cooked like my mum used to (slightly overdone - old school!!) The homemade pie is really lovely too. Portions are large but I can never resist finishing! If you want quick, good old fashioned, home made comfort food, then you can't go wrong with the Tartan Cafe!! Just wish it was open on a Sunday as would be there for Sunday dinner every week!!!

What a lovely find this place was after a busy morning shopping. It is clean and comfortable and the staff are very friendly especially the red headed waitress, I am sorry I did not get her name but she was very friendly and also very efficient, she really made us feel welcome so thank you to her. We both had haddock chips and peas and it was delicious and at £6.50 it was very reasonably priced too. We do not come to Castleford very often but will definitely come back here for lunch on our next visit. I would recommend this place to anyone.

The Tartan's been going for years, which is always a good sign. Goos businesses survive and thrive. It's clean and well kept and the food is nice. Sure it's not the cheapest in town but you get what you pay for. The service is fast and friendly.

Called in here this morning for my breakfast and it was really good,i had a full English that had bacon,sausage,egg,beans and fried bread all of which were cooked very well and there was plenty on the plate,my partner had a egg and bacon sandwich and she said it was also very nice.

Call in here regularly for lunch as the food is alway's great.the prices are reasonable and the steak pie is really good.

Went to the Tartan about 12ish on the 8th feb and to be honest the food was shocking by any means,the roast pork dinner was at best just edible.the pork was stringy and wafer thing and my wife's baked potato was cold and crunchy.the topping of savoury mince and cheese was a light shade of grey and tastless,microwaved I think.
