Really good food - obviously popular as many people eating. Good prices and wide menu. Friendly service. Two bars at the pub - one side more drinking with a TV, but other larger area quiet for eating and sitting. Looks a bit unpromising from the outside and inside could do with some better lighting to make it a bit less stark. But friendliness and food makes up for that

This place is a hidden gem! Lovely relaxed and clean atmosphere, recently decorated and run by friendly and happy all Nepalese staff. The cheapest pint of Guiness in the area and you can still sit at the bar! The food is not only well priced but second to nothing in terms of freshness, fragrance and flavour. Perfectly cooked, each dish is exquisitely and individually prepared with fresh herbs and spices. A culinary journey into Asian cuisine with every mouthful. I regularly pop in for a pint and order a couple of takeaways but eat in for the best experience! The food is unbeatable!

Really impressed with the food here: the venue doesn't look much from the outside (even as a pub, never mind as a place to eat), and it's no-frills on the inside. But the food is very, very good, the staff efficient and friendly and the prices very reasonable. It describes itself as Nepali but there's food associated with other parts of the sub-continent - all of it very tasty. We're three-time diners, so have tried plenty of the menu!

Have lived in the area 45 years about half a mile from the pub and never used it. However we started with the takeaway when lockdown started as we had long given up on other takeaway restaurants in the area. We were so impressed with the flavours, service and quality. Each dish (we are greedy and buy five for two of us because making up our mind is difficult) is individual in its taste. Some (Dhansak) wonderfully sour with a subtle heat, (Tandoori King Prawn Masala) rich and creamy with plenty of enormous prawns, (Everest Lamb) in a sauce we adore. We would quite like to try the restaurant just to meet the people, but this food has become a real pleasure during these difficult times.

My parents are local so this is our meet for a drink place. Close to the train station and it’s dog friendly. The staff here are so nice. I was upset that they changed menus! I love Thai and not keen on Indian food. When we recently visited we just had some starters which were lovely but not as good as before but that’s down to my personal choice not because of quality. My parents ate and they liked it. With Hyns gone and now no Thai I think they should reconsider their menu as there is already an Indian in ascot high street! We still enjoy drinking here just will think twice about eating here unfortunately where as before we loved to order food. Staff are always amazing here though!!!

As locals we stopped going to the Swinley because we were fed up with the smell of old chip fat, the tatty carpets and the average food. Now they've done it up and got new management it's a great improvement once you get your head round an old pub selling Thai food - but that seems to be a popular thing to do these days. The food is really good, very high quality and good value, I would recommend it. It still feels like a pub though, they could do with still adding a few finishing touches such as some nice big plants and pictures, make it feel a bit more homely, especially the area that's tucked away at the back. All in all good value and would recommend.

We unfortunately decided to try the Swinley delivery service out on Sunday evening.I have got to say it has to be probably the worst take away I have tried to eat in the last 3 years. The quality of food is extremely poor, the flavours are non existent, and the food look like it had been re-heated after it had been left out over night from a wedding buffet. The quality of the ingredients was very poor. The ribs had been boiled to death and then dropped in a poor quality sauce, the satay chicken was bought straight from the oriental supermarket ready made and then completely over cooked to resemble rubber. The noodles resembled pot noodle, enough said. The rice was caked in starch, it clearly hadn't been washed and I dare say the rice cooker would have been the same.I can only imagined the normal chef had night off that night and somebody else stepped in who cannot cook to help out.The only positive was that the food was delivered on time and the person who took the telephone order was very friendly, polite and efficient.Avoid at all costs!!

If you are a local reading this that's been scorned by previous experiences in years gone by, I urge you to try coming here to eat under this management. I used to live in Ascot and came back to visit family. The Thai food is superb. 2nd time we've come back now and it's just yummy - loads of big juicy prawns in my pad Thai and it tasted really fresh. Of course, it's still a pub at the end of the day but the food really is brilliant - they do takeaway and delivery too if you don't want to sit in :) they even have a Chablis on the wine list (yes, they have a wine list, dizzy heights compared to the offering a few years back!). The staff are friendly and they seem to really care that you enjoy your meal and prices a very reasonable too. You even get a hot towel to wipe your hands at the end of the meal! And there's 15% off on collection - so if you're local and you ever do takeaway, try this next time!! :)If you're haven't been local for very long and have no idea what I'm talking about - just ignore the stuff about the past and focus on the big juicy prawns! :)

We've lived very close to The Swinley for years and have frankly avoided it like the plague. It has improved recently, but still has zero atmosphere and a tasteless standard pub menu. HOWEVER, the Thai food is really good and a much better value takeaway than Hyns, for example. The food is very fresh and tastes homemade - the sweet and sour chicken had loads of vegetables, and the prawn pad thai had lots of large prawns. Red curry also went down well, and the spring rolls were perfectly done, not greasy at all. They're now busy with takeaways on Friday and Saturday nights, and deservedly so.

Well, we tried to eat here before but were deterred due to the noise in the bar. Based on the recent positive reviews, we decided to give this venue another go HOWEVER we were thoroughly disappointed for the following reasons:FIRST IMPRESSIONS:Lady was friendly and helpful on the phone when I was making the booking I emailed to follow up, explaining that this was our second try but I received no replyWhen we arrived, no-one acknowledged us. We had to cough loudly for the gentleman behind the bar to put his mobile phone down and acknowledge us.For a Friday evening, the venue was nearly empty and had no atmosphere at allConsidering this venue was recently refurbished, the decor is very dull There us no set menu which ended up making it more expensive than it could have been.STARTERS: We ordered the mixed starter to share The food was nicely presented however the prawn toast had a strange gooey middle - I almost thought it was under cooked but we ended up deciding it was some kind of strange sauce in it. Not a prawn in sight! There was only a tiny amount of satay & sweet chilli dipping sauce so had to ask for moreMAIN COURSE:Bok choi / mixed veges are charged at £7.95 each! I have NEVER seen veges this expensive in my life - not even in central London! We ordered a red thai chicken curry and a prawn pad thai. The food was nicely presented and there were veges in the meals however the prawns and chicken were both over-cooked which was disappointingThe portions were quite smallDESSERT:We ordered the sticky toffee pudding - it came nicely presented however it had been microwaved from frozen so was hot on the outside but still frozen in the middle!VERDICT:Despite including a bottle of wine, we felt that £48 was VERY expensive for a pub with zero atmosphere and very mediocre food ! (note that this price was minus the half hot / half frozen dessert that we couldn't eat)

I would (and do) highly recommend people to try it.I hear they now deliver too for orders over £20 :)

Fantastic food and value. Freshly prepared, the Thai salad was hot and fresh, one of the nicest Thai meals I have had. The guy delivering got a little lost (we are tricky to find) and was so apologetic

I must explain before I review that the staff removed all food from our bill when we complained, but this doesn't change how disappointed we were with our experience. We popped in here as a family after hearing that this pub now offered Thai food. We eat Thai food a lot so were pleased to find out that this was available so locally. We ordered a children's meal for our daughter, some Thai starters and standard Thai mains. When the starters arrived I had a sinking feeling as they were no better than the frozen offerings at Iceland; it was glaringly obvious that nothing had been cooked fresh. All of that for £12.99! The mains followed in a suspiciously short space of time and nothing could have prepared me for quite how bad it was. The pad Thai had an unbelievable salt content, rendering it inedible. In addition, there was what I can only guess was a lattice-come-omelette-come-plastic mesh swamping it. I half wonder if it was a microwaving aid. Everything else was equally as dumbfounding. The sticky rice took fingers to prize apart and was volcanic, which hinted at a nuking. The sweet and sour 'stir fry' chicken was unrecognisable lumps of frozen meat chunks drowning in a heavily processed sauce. The flavour had an almost game-like quality to it and the texture was most unexpected. I must mention at this point that each dish will set you back nearly £10! It was reminiscent of all inclusive holiday meals. We actually could not eat our main and for this reason I complained to staff that we did not think the food was up to scratch, which was met with argument that they had never had one complaint before. I found this incredibly hard to believe and we accepted their offer to remove the food from the bill but at this point the experience was ruined.I can't express enough that the staff were very kind to us but unfortunately the food was the worst I've had.

Heard about the new management and, as locals that love thai food, decided to book a table and check out the food. As we approached, we could hear the noise from outside - when we walked in, we couldn't believe our ears as there a group of about 8 men who were shouting and cheering and chanting so loud that no-one else could hear anything - the people in the pub looked VERY fed up (unsurprisingly!) - my bf and took one look at each other and walked right back out. What a shame but there is no way we could have enjoyed a meal there... the new management should try asking the extremely noisy drinkers to respect the other patrons - especially those that have come in for a meal.

I got a leaflet through my door saying The Swinley is now a pub/Thai restaurant. Being a Thai food fan and having lived here for ten years and never set foot in the place before (it never looked that inviting) we decided to check it out. It's been very nicely decorated inside and the food was really good, and really good value. You can easily over order as the portions as are quite big. We had no room for dessert, but as we will visit again soon that's no problem. Highly recommended, good food at the price and good service.

We had a selection of Thai dishes from The Swinley (takeaway) and we were plesantly surprised. The food was of good standard, in particular the Chicken Panang was fantastic. Not much more could be expected from a local Thai pub restaurant. The curry was on par with food that I've tasted across Thailand earlier in this year, which is great! The pub itself has had a great internal refurb. It was empty when we collected our takeaway, I would imagine that most locals would not associate good food with 'The Swinley'. Maybe it's popularity and reputation will grow over time. One poor note was the staff welcoming. No effort was made by the three on duty staff to greet us or raise a smile, which is unusual for a brand new restaurant. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt this time though!

We went in the swinley on Monday evening to have few drinks as it was near to our hotel and needed some evening walk after a long tiring day ......we were welcomed by a cute smile from the barman ,it was well busy for Monday evening.... we sat in the side where looked like drinking side as boys in our group wanted to watch footy.... it also had other side where few people were dining, although almost all of us had eaten, the smell of the food made us hungry and decided to share something. Thai experience was the best thing to share as it had few variety in it and we wanted to try too many things but we were almost full so we ordered few stir fried dishes, curries and noodles to share. The man behind the bar offered us to open the tab if we are having food which was great as we were in confusion how much to pay perhead....(which we worked out later after getting the bill with mint chocolate) even though we were full we barely left anything ,sweet and sour pork, prawn pad Thai noodle and tamarind duck was my favourite of all but others loved cashewnut and chicken and green curries(which was bit spicy for me ) this is the first time I am writing a review but this place with great service and superb food made me write one.... another positive aspect of this pub is, it is a pub and not a restaurant where there are loads of varieties of drinks. Boys enjoyed their lager and ales and I enjoyed my GnT and other girls too enjoyed their selection of wines. After all the bill came to £25perhead including tip. overall we all had great nightout.....wish well to the pub!
