The food was average to poor. The meat trio was not generous in portion size. One drumstick, one small slice of beef and a small portion of pork. The beef was tough. The Yorkshire pudding dry and cold. The veg were ok. The gravy was the best bit. For the £23 price it was poor value and disappointing portions and quality. The staff were friendly and attentive. Let down by the kitchen.

Superb pub, with a great menu, lovely staff. It is situated on many walkways. You will need to check in your registration number behind the bar, due to the number of walkers you get here, but it’s well worth it.

I can’t speak for the rooms, but the pub was fantastic: if only all pubs could be like this! Great Butcombe beer, truly excellent food, great service from a cooordinated, smiling team, real cloth napkins (I know that this seems like an odd thing to single out, but it’s reflective of the sheer class of the place), and dog friendly to boot. My friends tell me the mushrooms on toast were divine, but no-one in our group of nine had a duff plate.

The Swan Inn is a Butcombe Ale pub, so great for fans of the Butcombe brand. The wait staff were really helpful. As soon as we arrived, they told us which entrance was better for disabled people, because we had mentioned in the booking that one of our party had mobility issues. The staff were also friendly and attentive to us throughout our meal. There were some problems we had at The Swan Inn. There was nowhere to park when we arrived, which meant we had to drive up hill and park in a lay-by. If you are visiting on a Sunday afternoon, don't presume there will be a free space in the car park. Also, the pub is quite cramped and noisy, which made it difficult for those with hearing problems in our party to engage in conversation. The last criticism I would make is that the pudding was a bit disappointing, although everyone was happy with their mains. I realise that some of these things it would be impossible, or at least very difficult, for the pub to rectify, which is why I gave it 4/5 stars. In general, it's a very nice place for a meal, and I'm sure it satisfies most people's requirements.

Stayed 1 night & ended up with a court summons for using the car park. .. Charged £500 to keep out of court. Booked 1 night stay with evening meal. Staff had my details & car reg. On first demand I contacted them & was reassured it was resolved. It wasn’t.. they sold the debt to a collections agency. Fleece & rinse operation being run from a pub / guesthouse. It was supposed to be pleasant stay in the countryside. I knew this pub from my childhood & had been looking forward to going back. No steak pie is worth a £500 fine (.. on top of the charge for a nights accommodation) .. the procedural default of court action to a genuine paying customer was clinical. Utter filth.. don’t go !

Had a wonderful meal with my wife. Staff were professional and friendly. Food was great. Only a small downside was that my wife’s steak was a tad underdone. Not enough to warrant a complaint or a return to the kitchen. Was really looking forward to trying a sweet but was full after 2 courses. The Malbec was wonderful and the Goram Zero meant I could have a drink and drive home. It was on tap which in my opinion is better than bottles or cans of zero % options.

We stayed at The Swan Inn the night before our wedding at nearby Coombe Lodge, and it was an experience we’ll always cherish. We booked out every room the pub had for our friends and family, and from the very start, the team was incredibly helpful, making the entire process seamless. The rooms were beautifully decorated, very comfortable, and had all the amenities you could wish for. But what truly sets The Swan Inn apart is the exceptional service. We had quite a few additional requests, from accommodating hair and makeup artists coming in the morning to setting up extra beds for children, and the staff handled everything with ease. The staff went above and beyond to make sure our stay was special, not just for us as the bride and groom, but for everyone in our party. Nothing was too much trouble, and they made sure everything was just right for us. The entire team was so welcoming, friendly, and helpful, but a special shout-out goes to Luke, who really went the extra mile. On the morning of the wedding, the breakfast was fantastic, and once again, the staff made everything so much easier for us. They even brought the bridal party’s breakfast to the room where we were all getting ready, which was a huge help. If you’re looking for a place that combines beautiful surroundings with outstanding service, The Swan Inn is it. They made our stay so memorable, and we’re incredibly grateful!

Stayed the one night for dinner and breakfast. Check-in was swift and informative.  The chap even took our suitcase when he showed us to our room. We were given a voucher for a free drink each as there was no mini bar in our room. I much prefer a pint in the bar than anything from the mini bar. Varied menu for our evening meal which included some unusual items rather than the standard stuff you can get.  Waitress was very pleasant. Slept well. Breakfast was great much better than the week before at a 4 start Mecure hotel. Checkout again was swift and we were even offered a complimentary coffee to go. Highly recommend this inn.

The main courses were good and there was an ok selection GF options. However, the same cannot be said for the GF desert selection. There was little (apart from ice cream) that was GF. This situation appears to be across the board of Butcombe pubs. It is worth saying that Veganism is a food choice but GF is a dietary requirement. I love Butcombe pubs but they clearly need to up their game, and in addition it would be helpful to mark GF on the menu, as they do vegan options. Update: We have returned more recently to have an early evening drink at the Swan, and whilst it’s a lovely looking pub, the drinks prices and akin to London prices. By this I mean a staggering £12.75 for a glass of wine, now to be fair it was a large glass but even so! So if you’re rich and money is no object, then don’t hesitate, if you’re like me and not particularly well off, find another pub, there are several within a mile or two which are equally as nice but not as expensive.

Three night stay 8-11 June This was our second stay at the Swan Inn (we stayed three nights in June 2021. It is a great base for exploring the Mendips although this time we spent most of the two days in and around Cheddar. The room was great and the bed comfortable. A couple of criticisms: If you are going to put a plastic rubber plant in the room make sure to dust its leaves. The one in our room certainly hadn't been dusted. Most seriously, the toilet seat was very loose almost to the extent that it was dangerous. We mentioned it to staff when we arrived and had to say something again the following morning. It was fixed after that. However this should be picked up by cleaning staff, assuming they clean the toilet. Breakfasts were ok. I don't think we should need to ask for butter to go with our croissants, or sauce with fry up. I had eggs benedict and eggs royale and on both occasions the poached eggs were hard. The first time I returned the meal and the second attempt was perefct.. The second time we were in a hurry and I left most of the egg. We had two evening meals at the Swan Inn. The beef sunday dinner was so so. Might have been better at lunch time. The second main meal we had was excellent. So it was a mixed experience at the Swan Inn. There are a few things that should be improved, but we would happily stay there again for the great atmosphere and polite staff.

The Swan was recommended to me yesterday by my pal and after checking out the menu immediately, my other half and I made an impromptu visit to the pub for tea last night. The pub was easy to find via satnav although it is up a lane but it's location in The Mendips is part of its charm. Parking was very easy and please be aware that you do need to validate your parking or risk a ticket but this is widely signposted. We hadn't booked but the lovely manager seated us in a charming table near the fire giving us menus and specials and taking drinks orders. The food was divine, I highly recommend the mussels with fries and the pie of the day. A 10% service charge was added to the bill which saved us scrapping around for change and was totally justified as we received wonderful service. For the dog owners amongst you this is a very dog friendly place with its own dog menus plus the varied walks around the pub. Cannot wait to go back.

A fantastic little country pub. Amazing Sunday Roast, service was really good from the minute we walked in, right up until we paid. Sam it’s nice to see you back to your old self, and enjoying your new pub. Best of luck, we’ll definitely be back. Best wishes BDW’s

So, man google reviews are brutal, stars?! What am I Michelin reviewer? No. But saying that. I am cold. This place is cold, radiators on, but my coats on. Food, good but small plates. Ok. Men’s, no mirror in the men’s toilets. I’m not massively vain, but seems kind of standard.
