No idea what Explore820600 is talking about. Popped in on my way through loose. The staff are absolutely brilliant - very attentive and courteous. Pimmy's pizza which is located in the pub is phenominal - I've been to a fair few restaurants in my time and the pizza I had is hard to beat. Price wise the pub is excellent and they have a variety of well chosen and well kept ales on tap/hand pump. The pub itself has a cosy and welcoming atmosphere. Definate thumbs up in my books.

My son in law had his 30th birthday here as a private function in a section of the pub, which worked really well; the buffet was really good with lots of freshly cooked food, generous portions and all very reasonably priced. Recently, I paid twice as much for half as much food for my Dad's 80th. Great selection of beers, again, reasonably priced. The regulars were welcoming and the atmosphere was relaxed. I always look up places on trip advisor and had some misgivings about this place from past reviews, but, we would have no hesitation about going back to this place for a drink or pub meal based upon this experience. Thanks for a great night out staff at the Swan!

We came in with friends for a Sunday carvery last week. When we entered the girl on the bar showed us straight to a table in their restaurant area. We had to walk through people at the bar to get there but they all seemed very friendly. The carvery was delicious, I had the beef and my wife had the lamb. Excellently cooked and the roast potatoes were AMAZING! It was lovely to get a proper sized plateful and it tasted great. I would book next time to make sure we get a table as it was quite busy, best to get in early maybe!!? The girl who served us was very attentive and told us that the pub had recently been taken on by new management, perhaps that is why it was quite busy. Would definitely come here again.

Went in with my mum for lunch, nobody at bar so was told by one of the locals to ring the bell and someone would come! Took a while before landlady appeared who seemed pleasant enough at the start, she gave us a menu and directed us to a restaurant area away from everyone else. When i gave in my food order I asked if they did brown baguettes, she barked 'no' then I asked for a small glass of wine with lots of soda she said ' give me a clue! Red white or rose' to which I ordered white.

My family and I popped in here for lunch and we all quite enjoyed our individual meals. Good value for the food which was well presented and plentiful.I personally wasn't very hungry so went for soup and sandwich. The soup was Carrot and Coriander (actually homemade) and the sandwich was ham. The sandwich was made of thick very fresh bread and plenty of ham. Thoroughly enjoyable. My family chose steak and chips etc, and liver and bacon. All of which was thoroughly enjoyed. The order for drinks and the meals was taken by a very busy, very pleasant and competent barmaid (I am of the era that still uses that term with affection). The toilets were clean. All in all a very welcoming pub which if I am ever in the location again will definitely re-visit. I recommend this pub restaurant.

Four of us came for a meal,we did book in advance as it was a Friday, but we probably wouldn't have needed to. The menu has a few choices on for under £8, and then there is the specials menu, I went for the steak and kidney pudding, it came with a separate disk of vegetables (cabbage, carrots and green beans), I changed my potatoes to chips and they were happy to do this, the gravy was delicious. All of our meals were lovely and reasonably priced. The only thing I would have liked would have been that my steak and kidney pudding was home made but it wasn't and therefore there was not a huge amount of filling, although adequate and tasty. The staff were nice, not pushy and left you to eat in peace.

In recent months I have been to this establishment on many occasions, as the carvery is very good. I have recommended it to many friends and family but am sadly withdrawing my custom and future recommendation. I have only ever judged where I eat based on the fayre on offer, as I have been fortunate to only encounter those in hospitality who have endeavoured to deliver a pleasant dining experience, even if the food didn't measure up!! This is the first time I've been put off returning to a pub / restaurant due to rude, inhospitable staff. All but one that work here have a great attitude but it only takes one to ruin it and this came in the form of a cook, serving with the worst attitude I've ever encountered, bossing customers around, barking at children and dictating what could be selected from the self service buffet. Sadly never again

From 5.30pm onwards, they catered for just under 200 of us, with a hot and cold buffet, including a whole salmon, beef and chicken platters, roast potatoes, hog roast, and an ice cream truck for desserts! Later in the evening the top of the pub was turned in to a dance area, with a band playing great music. The pub had been decorated with twinkle lights, voiles, and greenery making it look amazing. From the planning, to the actual day, every thing ran smoothly and with out a hitch.Again, Thank you Michelle, Wendy and all the staff for making the day special.See you soon Jason & Jill

I went here recently with my family, and had a decent carvery. Good portion of meat ( a choice of 4 available), and well cooked veg ( ie not over-cooked), and good gravy. We all enjoyed the meal, but I have a few minor criticisms: the Yorkshire puddings (not crispy enough) and stuffing (too moist) could have been better, and there was no crackling with the pork (and that's a crime!). Despite these comments, I would still happily go back, and thought it was reasonable value at under £8.

What a nightmare pub! As soon as we walked through the door the barmaid welcomed us by saying we would have to pay with cash as the card machine wasn't working! One of our party changed their order but the original order was still brought to the table. When we queried this the landlady said she would have to go and check her cctv as she didn't believe they had made a mistake. She was a very rude woman and had no concept of customer service - all for the sake of about £8. Have never experienced anything like it. The barmaid who was serving us then got very snotty, followed by the land lady's sister who came to our table to ask why we were being horrible to her sister. Unbelieveable! No wonder there was hardly anyone else in the pub! It won't be long before their business goes down the pan if our experience was anything to go by!

After driving past The Swan many times my husband and 2 other friends decided to go for the Sunday carvery last weekend. I phoned up to book a table and told this wasn't necessary, just turn up which we did and were warmly welcomed and although busy, there was plenty of room for us. We ordered a bottle of wine very reasonably priced at £12.95 and sat down ready to eat. There was a choice of beef, pork, turkey or gammon. The beef looked more med to well, than rare so we politely asked if it was possible to have rare, immediately the chef went to the kitchen and returned with a stunning rare to medium joint of beef. Delicious! Loads of fresh vegetables including lovely roast tatties and parsnips, carrots, peas, greens, cauliflower cheese and stuffing. All the condiments you would want including good hot horseradish and lashing of gravy. After eating we made a point of speaking with the manager Michelle who was friendly and happy to chat with us. I found myself in this pub at lunchtime after having the day from hell. Car had been smashed into and this was as far as the recovery company could get me before the next one could pick me up. Obviously this took many phone calls etc to organise so while sitting with my cup of tea I plugged in my phone charger. The manager had overheard my situation and was far from compassionate. She said did you ask to charge that? Take it out!Not friendly or helpful at all. Left a woman alone without a phone for help. Can't believe it! It's not as if I wasn't a paying customer.

We decided to visit the swan for lunch for the first time midweek. We were the only ones there and it was a hassle right from the start. Took ages to sort a table, we went from one part of the place to the opposite side? All sat down ready to order for 4 adults only to be told no food for children unless ordered on the menu. (We all had packed lunches for them as usually we stay at the ymca) Absolutely no lee way around this jobsworth management decision. We asked for it to be a one off and we'd order off the menu next time. The answer was a resounding no so we all left on principle. You've just lost yourselves 4 valuable customers and as the summer is coming up its always nice to know of somewhere that is child friendly but we'll go to the pepper pot at the 20/20 next time as they have a climbing frame outside too and they make you feel welcome which is important when you have children

My friends and I decided to go to this pub as it was near to a playgrouo we attend every week. Four adults and 6 children. We were first met by a bar member who didn't really know where to sit us as don't think they really wanted is there. We were taken to a table that needed to be re arranged as there was a lot of us ( 10 aswell as a small baby ), the bar member then took a phone call which was the landlady telling us they wanted us to sit at the other end of the restaurant so we were out of the way. We all had pushchairs ( some of them double )and hungry toddlers so just wanted to get sat down and get kids sorted so we could eat and drink ourselves. We were put at the back in a separate bit of the restaurant, which suited us as it was out of the way. The staff then waited until we were all seated and wanted to get the childrens lunch out, bringing your own lunch for children has never been an issue in any restaurant I've eaten in before, and I dine out a lot. When the children started eating we were told they had to put there lunch away, was nit allowed to eat it there ( informed they had camera's to see what we were doing ) and had to order them a childrens meal of either chicken nuggets or fish fingers ( no veg/fruit on offer ) for £4.94.When we tried to reason with them, explaining that we understood these were the rules, but all adults would all be eating two courses plus drinks send asked politely if they would allow it just this once, especially after the effort it took, we were told NO. We all decided to leave and on our exit we were scorned at by a lady who looked like she had just got out of bed, the landlady I presume, who was only too pleased to see the back of us. I totally understand rules, but this is the most un friendly, un family friendly run pub ever. Don't be fooled by the play area outside, apparently children aren't allowed any of their own snacks or drinks there either. Vile place with very rude staff.

13 of us visited on a Saturday evening for a family meal to welcome our Australian cousin & his partner. We chose the venue as wanted something intimate where we could all relax & let conversation flow. The food was excellent, the service was outstanding and we met & thanked the chef. We could not of wished for a better evening & would recommend to anyone. I enjoyed the experience soo much I am going again the following Saturday evening as a venue for a meal out with the girls!!!!

Visited The Swan this Sunday lunchtime to celebrate a family engagement. We've visited on a number of other occasions and have always been very pleased with the food and the service from all the staff. Today was no exception and despite the pub being the busiest we've ever seen it we were served efficiently and politely as always. We were a party of 15 and another large party were also booked in. This presented no great headaches among the staff and everyone enjoyed their meals and drinks. The Swan is a lovely pub with a super atmosphere which is entirely due to the efforts of Wendy and Michelle and their staff; everyone is made to feel welcome. We're going back in a couple weeks for birthday party for my mother in law and are looking forward to it already.

We have lived in the area for a number of years and have frequented the pub on a number of occasions. We have experienced a variety of managers but can honestly say that the 2 lovely ladies who run this pub have made it a great place to drink & eat. The food is always of a high standard with a good selection. The carvery is second to none. The welcome is always friendly. The landladies make it their aim to personally get to know you which is very nice. They don't take any crap and will not tolerate bad language or badly behaved children, which I agree with. I have a son and when we are in a public place my expectation is that he will behave and appreciate that he's in an adult environment. This makes ours and others dining experience more pleasurable cos no one wants a screaming child when trying to enjoy a meal out. A great place

We are local people who didn't use the Swan for a number of years before Wendy and Michelle took it over as it didn't have a family atmosphere or offer good food. The pub is now well used and there is always a 'buzz' on a Sunday when lunch is being served. Being dog owners, it's good to have a local pub that allows dogs (in fact, they keep a goodie jar for regulars)! We often meet other family members on a Sunday afternoon including our four year old grandson who is made most welcome - and has had some treats for good behaviour! The Swan has really had a turnaround thanks to the hard work put in by Michelle, Wendy and their staff.

Paid a visit to the swan again today the 6 September had lunch with family a great visit again. Have been here now about eight times and enjoy every visit sunday lunch is a must. Landlady has a wicked sense of humour and my 9 month old grand daughter and her seemed to have hit it off well. She always comes up to see if everything is all well and makes the visit a pleasure to go. I wish we had a pub like this wher we live in Horsham sussex. Thanks once again

Today was my 40th birthday, so I decided to treat my family to Sunday lunch. Following on from recommendations from a number of friends, I decided to drive to the 20 or so minutes to the other side of town to visit the Swan in Loose. What an absolute pleasure. The owners were on top form throughout the day, cooking and carving for families of all ages and sizes. The bar staff worked seamlessly and efficiently, and never once looked phased or out of control of the busy bar, managing a excellent work rate and an effortlessly dry sence of humour which completely made our visit. To cut a long story short - excellent food, excellent service. Cant reccomend this cosy village pub enough for quality of food and value for money.A return visit guarenteed.

Nice friendly staff, pleasant to chat to as a solo visitor.Looks like they've had a bit of a revamp out the front, it's nice to be able to sit outside and have a drink when the suns out and be able to have a read. They have a play area for the little ones, not used it myself, I'm a bit too old. But it looks grand.Would highly recommend

Dear all, due to my families treatment at this establishment today I felt moved to join trip advisor today to warn people of the treatment you can expect there. First I should mention that I am not normally a person to complain and have left many situations where maybe I should have complained, but today the way we were spoken to pushed me over the edge. Today was our second visit to this establishment to have their carvery Sunday lunch, the food I have to say is ok........ but the staff, oh my, that is a totally different matter. The bar staff are pleasant and well presented, you pre pay at the bar for your carvery lunch and go to the counter to get your meal, where you are greeted by an overbearing rude lady, who we later found out is one of the managers, our first encounter with this lady (for want of a better word) we thought we had caught her on an off day, to which every one is entitled, but no, this appears to be her normal demeanour our 2 yo daughter, who I admit is a bit loud and excitable got shouted at by the rude lady and promptly started to cry. We stayed (god alone knows why) but my daughter didn't want to go anywhere near the restaurant area because this is the domain of the rude lady. We went up to get our food at the carvery, by this time our daughter was quiet and subdued and sat down and ate, again the food was ok. But after the meal Bethany was again a little excitable and as I was telling her off, a man who appeared to be another manager came up and said that people were complaining about our daughter being too loud, now I am a pretty observant person and I hadn't heard or seen anyone speak to this man, so the only person who could have complained was the rude lady behind the scenes. I said loudly so that everyone could hear "fine we won't be coming back again, obviously this is not a family friendly restaurant" to which he replied "not if your child is squealing like that" I then told him I was going to leave a review on trip advisor and we left. Now this really is a shame because this pub is walking distance from our house and has been nicely "done up" but the thing that let's it down is the management, who are blunt if you are being polite and rude if you are being honest

Tonight was my first visit to the pub and I must say I was very pleased with The Swan, the barman greeted me with a smile and let me know that he'd be with me in a tick as he was a bit busy with customers ahead of me, to which I didn't mind. When he got around to me he again smiled and asked what he could get for me this evening, I ordered a glass of Pinot which was very tasty and then the barman pointed out that there were food menus on the tables and also a couple of specials boards as well.I ordered the rack of lamb (one of the specials), when it arrived I was surprised at the amount of food you get for money, a lot, halfway through both land ladies came out to check if my meal was ok which of course it was, well, it was blooming marvellous actually, after finishing my meal,my plate was cleared, again the barman was smiling, then he brought over the dessert board for me to look over, he recommended the rocky road ice cream as he'd had it before, so I obliged, and he was not wrong, again I got a lot for my money.I can't recommend this establishment highly enough, very clean, warm and inviting, and you can see everyone who works and frequents there get on like family, I will defiantly be back soon.

What can I say ! We have been to the swan on numerous occasions over the years living very locally . There have been many landlords/ladies and each time we give the next lot a try to see if they can make it any better . Well on first sight we thought these had nailed it , tidied up the outside , nicely fenced areas and a brand new play park for the smaller people . But, whilst a lot of effort seems to have gone into making the initial appearance look inviting , the service was still it's shocking same ! Bar staff that were smart but totally stupid and bordering on plain rude , if we hadn't been before we wouldn't have expected how we were greeted , but , it's the same old swan habits die hard .So , onto the food , we ordered mains only as we weren't too impressed so far , we shouldn't have bothered, as our plates were dumped on the table we looked at each other and without a word laughed, it definitely is the same swan , hey why not put the fish stall back and reintroduce the great idea of the Indian again as I very much doubt there food was any worse !Now we're not adverse to a bit of rowdiness in a pub , afterall that's what we're all there for , to have a good time be a bit loud and all that jazz but some of the language was a bit extreme , no doubt the landlady doesn't appreciate this but the bar staff had no control and didn't manage to take charge at any time .So to wrap up, even though the exterior has had a good attempt to be made more attractive ( losing 40' of the huge car park wouldn't hurt) at the moment the swan is the same old pub . No doubt in time problems will be weeded out ( I am optimistic) but locally there are far better pubs , ( a short drive or fair walk ) but I would for the moment rather pay for a taxi and enjoy my afternoon out than go to the swan .

Exactly 6 months ago, my wife held her 60th birthday in this establishment. Despite letters to Mr Boniface of Penguin Pub Co Ltd, which he has not had the courtesy to respond, the issues we had are still unresolved. So should you wish to book a buffet for 40 at £10 per head & receive mediocre food on paper plates, this is the place for you.

We recently went for Sunday Lunch, WHAT A MISTAKE!! The portions of meat served we're not only sparse but dry. The land lady serving the food we found to be rude and un-welcoming, we will not be returning! We have since been to The Cock at Boughton Monchealsea just up the road what a delight. You get what you pay for in life!!

Michelle & Wendy create a pleasant and warming atmosphere to this traditional inn. A mixture of fine ales, good food and a Sunday dinner that is of the highest quality. Soft furnishings complimented with an open fire add to what is best described as a haven for the social drinker with all the comforts of home.Dog friendly and able to deal with the most frantic of families needing refreshment it is on my doorstep and frequented often for a pint of Doom Bar or Harvey's ale.I can't find fault with the food, service or the excellent atmosphere provided by the ladies of the house.Large car park to the rear and beer garden for the family are most welcome in fine weather.

Phoned the day before and was told that we didn't need to book a table in order to eat, yet the following day we turned up and was refused food as we hadn't booked a table, even though we were told not to book the day before, wasn't able to book one there and then either, staff weren't accommodating and actually quite rude. We ended up going to the fish & chips

Chilston Manor hotel is a lovely hotel with friendly staff but I and my husband were very disappointed with what they call a luxury afternoon tea…we had three little finger sandwich's with hardly any filling in them….dry scones…what was nice was the sausage roll,we had to ask for the tea as it didn’t arrive, when it did it was stewed & strong…will be returning NO !!!!

UPDATE… This store has been run into the ground, the lovely staff members have all left, one very nice young man “sacked” for a pathetic reason. We now go to Sainsbury’s and buy large rolls and fillings and make our own. What can one say.... it’s a big roll with filling. Staff mostly friendly. Can run low on fillings towards the end of the day.
