We held our daughter’s 21st Birthday Party in the loft! From start to finish the staff were so lovely and really helpful, everything done with a smile and nothing was too much trouble. It’s a fantastic space and I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending it or using it again

When researching our trip to Loughborough I saw pics of Merv's food and had to book! My better half and I both ordered a full rack of ribs cooked in Merv's own BBQ sauce, and the portions were huge! The meat just fell off the bone, so tender and so tasty, up there with the best I've ever eaten. Recommended!

Caught my eye when I saw the all you can eat wings on Saturday. Ended up splitting a wing platter instead with my wife because it worked out cheaper. The wings were coated in plenty of sauce and tasted delicious. It's a great place for people who enjoy a good cold cider. Ended up ordering a rack of ribs as well, which I wished had more sauce on like the ribs, but they were happy to give me more sauce on the side upon request. The fries were a bit cold in places so it kind of might put me off on ordering them again. I ordered a homemade cookie sandwich which came with massive cookies and not as much icecream as I hoped for. The environment is calm and quiet but I would have liked a little music to liven up the place. Will probably return again for the wings and cider.

Attended a friend's wedding reception and have to say the face the taxi driver pulled when we told him where we were going didn't inspire confidence. Same when we walked in. HOWEVER the reception part was really nicely done out, the staff were really friendly and the clientell were a great laugh as well. Yes it's probably a little rough around the edges, but the overall standard was great. Don't judge a book by its cover I suppose.

Me and my Mrs booked a beer tasting Paddle + cheesey nachos for 2.We attended today on the 8th May 2018 in currently sat in the pub still here is my opinion... Astheticly there is alot to be desired from the outside view.. It's a bit of a dive. The staff are in fact friendly and did theire best.. Until the nachos arrived that is! The nachos to share was a nice accompliment to the craft beers we had chosen but they were really tight with the cheese! I travelled from Derby via bus for this and personally I wouldn't come back. The inside of the pub is pretty rough.. Back street boozer springs to mind!

Husband really wanted to visit here, so Good Friday seemed like a good time to visit?! We were surprised the pub was basically empty but viewed the limited menu and made our choices. I went for the warm bbq chicken chilli baguette with salad and chips on the side. Husband went for nacho's with added jalepno's. We were both disappointed. My baguette wasn't warm for a start, had been cut right through so impossible to attempt to pick up in any way! The salad consisted of three slices of cucumber and a few limp salad leaves. When I tried to eat it, the bread was old, dry and crumbly. The worst thing was the chicken! it was so cold, dry, overcooked and unrecognisable as chicken - so totally inedible, chips were ok as a plus!?! Husbands nacho's were basically out of a packet with a scoop of ok chilli, could barely detect any cheese and we were charged 50p for three slices of jalepeno. So disappointed, was it the chef's day off as our experience resembles nothing like other recent reviews? We wont be returning and I am sure although we didn't complain at the time (I cant be doing with confrontation) they must have known what we thought by the amount I in particular left! Not what we expected from a castle rock pub esp one we travelled specifically to, to try out!

Booked a room for family get together and asked for buffet for 18 at £10 per head. Also agreed to £50 charge for room and the bar to be staffed. The room was a good size and furnished well but cold, bar not staffed so had to go downstairs to the bar. The food was minimal not enough for 18, just one plate of dessert. Managed to get the £50 charged for the bar to be staffed taken off the final total but would not use again.

This traditional pub has a lounge and separate bar. There is also a quiet rear lounge and an upstairs function room with bar and a first floor roof terrace for summer outdoor drinking. The lounge has a real coal fire and no music so it is conducive to conversation. The bar is livelier hosting an interesting array of characters. The thing that rates this pub so highly is its selection of well kept real ale and cider. Consistency the best in town and the pub is incredibly lucky as the local CAMRA branch committee do not frequent it so the pub is full of unbiased real ale enthusiasts. Other drinks are available expecially foreign beer and single malt whisky. Food is served mainly in the weekday evenings and during the day at weekends. You've tried the rest in town now try the best.

Having visited this place previously and received decent food and excellent beers we were totally disgusted in what we had today. It took ages to be served, the food was foul, the cob I had was still frozen, my friends chilli was non existant on her dish of tacos and the beer tasted of glass washing fluid. No ambiance whatsoever. Won't bother again.

I arranged to meet a friend of mine here for lunch on Easter Sunday; he was breaking a trip up North and I said we'd have a pint or two in the Swan. I know it of old, been drinking in there for decades, but never having partaken of food.Whilst I have no issue whatsoever with the beer; great variety and kept very well, the same cannot be said of the food. We opted for two roast beef dinners which should have been subject to an "Easter Sunday two roasts for the price of one" according to the website; however, no sign of that. The place was hardly busy, only about 6 other customers besides ourselves in the lounge, so the kitchen shouldn't have been overstretched. However, when the meal arrived, it was mostly cold. The carrots were tinned, and the broccoli was "al dente" to the point of being almost raw. The beef was not sliced, as you might expect from a roast joint, but small irregular pieces which had the consistancy of shoe leather.I ate most of mine as I was starving, but we called in at another hostelry on our way back to the station for something else to eat.

We held our wedding reception evening bash upstairs at the swan. The room has been refurbished and is lovely. We had a band, the swan provided bar staff upstairs, buffett brought in on cue.....it all went very well. There was no hire cost just a minimum spend but the buffett appeared to help with that anyway. We had about 90 people which is about the max. The food was great as were all of the staff so I wanted to thank them for that. The beer selection is always great...they also have a massive whiskey selection if you like that. Its a proper pub downstairs but I like that. Anyway it is booked again for my friends 50th due to recommendation....

There are a large group of us who are friends from all over the country. This is the third year on the trot that we have decided to have a get together between Christmas and New Year. What we need as a group is some really good beer, a place we can relax together and chat without loud music, some reasonably priced tasty food and a place who will allow dogs in. Beer: No problems there, wonderful choice of well kept real ales. We had been in touch with the place in advance to ensure they were ready for us, The group organiser had even got it in writing that they would keep the bar open until midnight for us. So many people travelling so many miles it is important we get to spend a decent amount of time with each other. Place: The rear dining room is an ideal size for our group to relax together and socialise - but it is such a bare room that the accoustics are dreadful and it can be very hard to hear what others are saying unless you are sitting right next to them. Anyone of a certain age who may have abused their hearing over the years stands no chance as there is just far too much noise to filter out a single voice and listen. Perhaps some pictures on the walls would help? Food. It varies. We ate there 4 times over the course of 3 days. I had a stilton and mango chutney sandwich. Stale bread without any butter with some stilton crumbled over a spreading of mango chutney. Tasty but - just SO DRY!. We had pie on two occasions - they were all really lush. great variety of flavour combinations and pastry to die for. Not exactly cheap when you have to order chips, mash or gravy as "extras" but the problem comes when they run out of chips by 7pm on a Sunday evening ... but they had run out of milk too so a friend of mine was unable to have coffee! Running out of basics like chips and milk is just poor management! We also had a Sunday roast which was fantastic. Really good value with perfectly cooked vegetables. On Sunday evening at 11pm they rang the bell for last orders. The organiser from our group explained that we had been promised it would stay open until 12. It seemed the management never bothered to tell the staff! They were closing and nothing any of us said would change their minds. Three years we have met at this place at this time of year. Last year they made promises and did not keep them. We knew the management had changed and we were prepared to give them another chance based on the promises they made but no chips, no coffee and no anything after 11pm was the final straw. We are already discussing which venue will have the pleasure of our custom next year - there were more than 30 of us all eating and drinking over the course of 2/3 days. I am surprised anywhere can afford to lose that sort of custom these days but sadly there were enough negatives to outweigh the many positives for our group this year.

Food doesn't have to be fancy. You can do a great cob and people will love it. Unfortunately the younger members of staff haven't learnt that. Ingredients were not available, the cob was stale, and it was frankly inedible. Please The Swan, keep an eye on the attitude of your staff, and the quality of the food, because a traditional setting will only go so far until people stop coming. We want you to succeed.

I ordered a panini which was at best mediocre but my partner ordered the pea and ham homemade soup which was in edible. Having now completed 25 years as a Castle Rock pub, the former Charnwood public house was closed and seemingly unwanted before the company saw its potential, gave it a new name and re-opened the doors to a thirsty public. The Swan in the Rushes has remained an integral part of the Loughborough real ale drinking scene ever since, offering a wide range of ten cask ales at any one time, one of which is always a mild.In addition to its real ale pedigree The Swan also offers 40 single malt whiskies and one of the most extensive Belgian bottled and imported lager ranges in the area. The numerous rooms include bar, with jukebox and quiz machine and a quiet lounge with national and local newspapers available daily. There is also a dining/family room and an upstairs function room which doubles as a skittle alley.Outside areas include a heated smoking area and a first floor drinking terrace/roof garden in addition to a car park for patrons.
