The very best pub ever!!! The first proper boozer I’ve been to. Come her with my best friend all the time. Regardless of the fact I live quite a while away this is the one and only proper “Royal Oak” incredible staff and incredible punters. Would 100% recommend! Ignore the negative reviews, they’re just lightweights! Brilliant pub! If you’re up for a laugh this is the place for you! Also, incredibly fair prices too! Lots of love, always and forever, Taylor x

Visited the central pub in Rothley for some lunch with my partner. There was no menu. The landlord aggressive we had 2 diet cokes and went to the Woodies at the end of the road instead. Is this pub owned by a brewery? Missing a trick in the centre of Rothley. Would not visit again.

Whilst the pub opens at 12:00 noon they have a coffee van available for hot drinks and snacks in their car park from 10am. What they don't tell you is, if you drive into the car park between 10am-12:00 noon you will receive a fine from the PCN camera. I contacted the pub to ask they cancel the fine and I provided proof that I'd made a purchase from the coffee van. They completely ignored the request and after reading other reviews it seems they are well aware of the issue and just trying to cash in. I've been in the pub a couple of times and it's a scruffy place to say the least. Save yourself the disappointment and walk 2 minutes down the road to The Woodmans Stroke, which is a lovely pub.

I visited The Royal Oak on a random Thursday night & same as the last time I visited we were treated like we wasn’t welcome from the locals & even the woman serving wasn’t happy we were in their pub. The biggest joke was someone was eating pie & chips out of the wrapper on the bar from the chip shop across the road!! With the amount of people & money in the area with its great position it should be packed but it’s ran into the ground by local dead heads.

We were desperate for something to eat after spending about 3 hours driving round trying to get hold of some medicine for our poorly daughter - finally got this medicine in Rothley and came in to this pub starving. Asked the barman if we could sit anywhere when we wanted to order food; literally all we got was a grunt of "don't do food" and that was it, nothing else. Went to KFC instead. Maybe it would be a good idea to take down all the signage outside saying they serve food. Also, smiling more and grunting less would be nice.

We arrived about 2.40 on Sunday and ordered a Sunday lunch of roast pork and a gammon from the very poor menu. We finally received our meal about 3.40 after hearing a member of staff complaining about the chef when we asked where our meal was she snapped its on its way. I thought the long wait might be redeemed by the meal itself but the Sunday roast was microwaved. Nobody apologised for the long wait and nobody asked us if everything was alright. It wasn't!, I don't think they care at all whether we ever return (which we won't)

Table of 18 pre-booked. We got seated at our designated time 2.30, some of us had starter which was fine all came out all was lovely. We waited until 4.30 for our dinner (mainly Sunday roast) three people who had a different choice of food came out and was eaten by the time the others started to get served dinner. One person asked for sauce and received it after the dinner had been eaten. Ordered a meal to be told they had ran out to then be told 10 mins later actually we've got some left. No veg was brought out until asked so people who had dinner served finally could start eating before it got cold. Child's meal came out 3rd but last meal and when asked for the child's meal a not so pleasant waitress said hold on it's coming! All the family didn't eat at the same time. Complained to the owner and she came up with a bunch of excuses! Finally ordering pudding..... To be told you can't order pudding off the menu but of the board. They had ran out of the pudding the majority of us wanted. We decided to order different pudding for the manager and other 2 waitresses to send the chef up to us to say they had ran out of other puddings we had ordered! By this time (5 o'clock ") we had all had enough! They didn't care about us and I will not being going again and will advise people to stay clear. We got asked by the man who works there if we had a good meal on the way out the door, told him it was awful! Did he care no.... Too busy slurping his pint!! Disgusting!

Visited this place with a wowcher on Halloween night. The deal included a 2 course meal with a bottle of wine. (not house wine). We were very impressed with the food and friendliness of the staff and clientele. On the night we went they were holding a kids birthday party, which was outside and they had paid for a disco for a Halloween party so it was nice to have a bit of entertainment whilst we were eating. We were even offered some birthday cake. We will definitely visit again because the food was so good and a nice friendly atmosphere

My partner and I visited this place for a meal on a wowcher deal. We were looking forward to it as overall the reviews seemed good. We had booked our table for 7pm. On arrival we stood at the bar and waited to be served as well as inform the bar man we had a reservation. We were treated as if we were invisible in fact someone else managed to get served who was behind us. The bar man couldn't even manage a smile when serving customers and seemed to resent being there.Eventually the waitress served us and then showed us to our table. Our wowcher came with a bottle of wine which we did receive. At about 7 15pm the waitress took our order my partner had wanted a mixed grill that was on the menu but was told that they no longer did mixed grills so he ordered something else. Our starters were just a soup of the day and a pate. We were very hungry because we hadn't eaten since breakfast as we didn't want to spoil our 2 course dinner. We waited to be served our order watching whilst other people were being served and hoping that the waitress would eventually get to us.We waited and waited and waited...the waitress seemed to have disappeared!By 8.15pm my partner had had enough we were starving there was no sign of the waitress so he said come on leave the bottle of wine we are going! We left with nobody even noticing we were gone.We ended up having to eat elsewhere costing us more money as our wowcher was pre paid.I work hard as does my partner and have a young family, this was a rare date night as a treat to ourselves and was completely ruined by the horrendous way we were treated at this pub.I can honestly say this was the worst experience I have ever had when eating out or in our case not as we never received any food anyway. This is a terrible way to treat customers especially new customers, Avoid at all costs and go elsewhere.

My parents celebrated their Diamond Wedding Anniversary here at the Royal Oak.in Rothley in March. There was a party of 16 of us and we had the small private room which was brilliant as we were able to mingle around and chat amongst ourselves without causing any disruption to other diners. The landlady who is fairly new was so helpful to us and nothing was too much trouble for her and the lovely waitresses who looked after us so well. The table was beautifully set and we had a side table for the celebration cake and also plentiful jugs of iced water and glasses were left on a sidboard for us.We didn´t have to preorder which is unusual for a party of this size and we all were able to choose from the main menu. The food was excellent, portion sizes were huge and everyone was delighted with their dinner, it was just a lovely evening and I can´t thank the staff enough for giving us all a wonderful celebration which we will have in our memories for a long time to come.I will definately be back on my next visit to UK and would highly reccommend the restaurant here, you won´t be disappointed

We called into the Royal Oak by chance as we were passing. We weren't expecting much - it is a brewery pub (Everards) and you know these can be hit and miss. However, we were pleasantly surprised. The young lady who greeted us was really genuine and warm and we were quickly seated in the quieter restaurant - away from the garden of wasps! There are fewer choices on the menu for hot food than the average pub but you could tell from the descriptions that the meals had been chosen carefully. No doubt following the Gordon Ramsay approach of do less, better! And they did! We had the special of fish pie - home made and excellent - and a roast. All the roast trimmings were fresh, crispy roast potatoes and veg which had been well steamed and not at all soggy. Puddings were also home made. What really impressed me was the young waitress told us the chef encouraged her to taste the home made rice pudding, which she was telling us was great. It was. But, a chef who insists the staff try the food is a clear sign of a chef who is proud to make great food and staff who can then tell customers honestly how good it is. I hope they hang onto both the waitress - who was a gem, and this talented chef. Brilliant food and service. Well done. We will be back. Don't be put off by the traditional frontage of the pub and the brewery label - it is much better than this.

Myself and my partner popped into the Royal Oak a week or so ago on seeing their "2 steaks and a bottle of wine for £20" offer outside. We are local to Rothley and know the Oak as a decent place to drink but have never tried any food there. Now I don't expect a lot for £20 but I was amazed with the food we received! We each got a beautifully cooked steak on top of a big pile of tasty chips, and to top it off the wine included in the offer was very decent. All in all it was a cracking meal for next to no money. Top marks to the Royal Oak.

Being fairly new to Rothley we decided to try the advertised Tuesday evening "2 curries for £10" deal at the Royal Oak. We were absolutely amazed at both the quality and quantity of the food - a choice of two different delicious curries, served with rice, a mini naan bread and a side dish of small samosas, onion bhajis etc. The pub itself is clean and pleasant, the staff friendly and welcoming. We were offered a choice of eating in the bar or restaurant area, and having chosen the restaurant were sad to see that there was only one other couple dining, although there were a few people eating in the bar. This is a lovely village pub that is clearly trying hard to offer a pleasant eating and drinking experience, with good food at very reasonable prices. Highly recommended!

I took my mother and wife here in the early evening recently and was very surprised at the whole experience. After an outing with my mother who lives in this area my wife and I decided we wanted a change from the usual carvery we have, and spotted this place. On arriving we were welcomed and shown to our table which was not overcrowded (I hate being crammed in).We ordered drinks, which were served whilst we studied the menu which was limited to, if memory serves about eight items each for starters and mains, plus about 3 items on the specials board. We decided not to have starters, I’d already spotted the dessert menu, so the mains as expected with freshly cooked food took a while to arrive, but when they did…Presentation in my opinion was spot on, not pretentious and not dumped on the plate it was just right. Everything was cooked with care and tasted just wonderful, mother said the carrots were under done, but she always did cook everything to within an inch of its life, they were perfect. The only criticism I would make, and it is minor, is that the pork I had was a little dry, but the sauce absolutely stunning. The salmon my wife and mother had was beautiful, I snuck a bit. There was a choice of style of potato with each dish.Desserts were chocolaty or crumbly or spotted dicky and totally irresistible.Price wise, I would say very good value, and I doubt the carvery will be seeing much of us in the future. If your passing I suggest you try it, if your local and you haven’t tried it your missing a treat.
