The Blue Lion in Charnwood

After a long drive back home after a nice family weekend away, we stopped off for a rest bite and to freshen up. Upon entry asked the bar maid if we could use the lavatory, was told yes, and was helpfully pointed in the right direction. Upon returning however my old and disabled mother was set up on, what could only be described as an awful, spiteful, vicious bar prop, who thought it right to treat passer bys in the most awful and disgusting manner. Which is a shame, as we WAS going to stop for a hot drink potentially. But after the most rude women I've ever come across had verbally ASSULTED, us, only to also be Proved wrong by the bar maid about her VILE attack, we thought best of staying on, and just carried on home. Truly awful despicable customers ruining what was hoped to be a nice stop off, wouldn't recommend any outsiders stopping off her, seems to be expected that it's a "local pub, for local people".

Absolutely disgusting behaviour from the owner when a child needed to use the rest room, I could hear her shouting at the mother of the Child from the other room, the lady explained she asked her staff first and they had said yes, she continued shouting that her staff wouldn't say yes to that, when the staff member spoke up saying she said it was OK for the young child to use the rest room no apologie was offerd to the woman! The owner continued with her vile rant large glass of wine in hand as the shocked woman and upset child walked out! Disgusting

Booked last Saturday for this Saturday young girl asked for my name and telephone number turned up this Saturday and the manageress said we weren't booked and the kitchen was closed as they had a funeral but she was extremely rude but went to a pub up the road who were absolutely welcoming

Nice friendly staff cosy country setting thank you

We wanted to try somewhere different for an evening meal, and this pub came up. There was a nice atmosphere with locals enjoying a Friday evening drink and get-together. A simple food menu but we decided to try one of the pies on offer - the steak and stilton. It was delicious! I had mash instead of chips, which was great. The staff were attentive and friendly, and the bill very reasonable. I'd definitely come again. Thrussington seems like a nice village by the way, worth doing a walk or two to get to know the local area.

Staying local for a few days and went to the Blue Lion for quick eats and a beer. This is not a pretentious pub like some but like pubs used to be. Good beer and a decent menu serving proper pub food. And here’s the best bit, not a rip off. Reasonable prices and food nice and hot, what more could you wish for. By getting the pricing right people will return, simple really and a mystery why so many places don’t get it. Well done Blue Lion.

Great local pub! Good food, honest prices

Very nice. Locals friendly, staff professional and welcoming. Beer was excellent and wine good. Proper locals pub and menu looked tempting and not over gentrified which is rare nowadays. Some people still want a pub,not a restaurant and this is exactly that. Will be back on a regular basis. Well done.

Escaped to here after making a grave error of booking an awful hotel on the A46 (never go the OYO)! Was welcomed by a couple of regulars propping up the bar. The banter was good and the atmosphere inclusive and friendly. I went for the steak and Stilton pie for scran and it was the right decision. Full of filling and flavour and the chips and peas were spot on too. If I could ask for anything more, it'd be a bigger gravy pot. Had a guest bitter with dinner, which was decent.

Found this pub after dropping my daughter at brooksby college. It was so lovely, staff were very polite and helpful, food was really nice and fresh, especially loved the garlic mash! Would definitely recommend, I was happy with the choices on the menu. We would definitely go back if in the area. Thank you :)

Group of 6 went here for an evening as staying in nearby hotel. The pub has recently opened with new owners so its only running a small menu. We had the blue lion burgers which were locally produced bison burgers and myself being a vegetarian had the vegan version. Fantastic burgers all round. Plus great service. So much we came back the next day and had bacon baps to cure us of our hangovers from the drinking the night before. Again fantastic for me as a delicious vegan bacon bap was available. Can't wait to come back to try more when they have a bigger menu.

A super warm welcome in a village pub that serves very decent beer. Watch this space...

Was recommended to me by a friend in the area when visiting recently. I believe recently under new management. Great local pub with a good atmosphere. Simple but good menu but i believe this is a reduced menu for Covid measures. Good choice of beers available. Will go again when in the area for sure.

Lovely pub with great charm and atmosphere staff polite and friendly, just taken over by new landlady so menu a little limited but was very tasty and local , good selection of beers wine and spirits at reasonable prices. Had a very pleasant even and will definitely be coming back .

Popped in to the newly opened Blue Lion on Saturday, my partner loved the house burger made with local bison. I had a vegan burger it was amazing. Really freindly staff and even though its just getting started we can see this will be a fantastic place to eat and drink.

Just had the best home battered fish and chips with homemade Tatar sauce at the Blue Lion for just £9:00 - stunning!!

We visited today for a family lunch after a recommendation from a neighbour. The food was outstanding and reasonably priced. Not a huge menu, but personally I prefer this as I think this shows the food is fresh and not boil in the bag rubbish. Even the children’s food off of the the kids menu was of a high standard (which is often where high end establishments let you down). I will definitely be recommending the Blue Lion to all of my friends. I hope to visit again soon and try the amazing fish pie which I saw being delivered to another table!

We have now been three times for meals here, each time the food was delicious, hot and cooked perfectly, we had Sunday lunch, which not your usual run of the mill carvery, but much better, perfectly seasoned, tasty, and enough to fill you up, not an extensive menu, still early days, but quality over quantity, The atmosphere was friendly and cosy, got chatting to the locals, had a few guns from the large collection at the bar,. Went back three evenings later and had another homemade/ cooked meal, the tenderest gammon, the fluffiest chips, at last, a kitchen that can cook chips properly! No hard lumps, nice and crispy, my friend had the Steak and said her knife just glided through it, so tender. Can’t wait for the summer so we can go into the lovely beer garden/ patio area. Very pleased and we will be returning.. often!

Sorry, but have nothing good to say about the meal we had at the Blue Lion. 2 weeks ago, five of us went for a lunch time meal, I’m sorry to say, it was dreadful,two had hot sandwiches, and three had chicken dinners, the food was so over cooked, you couldn’t eat it, and the chips were even worse, we were all so disappointed and disgusted, will not be going back again. The one star we gave is for the landlord

To everyone who enjoys a 'proper' Sunday lunch with no frills, then pop in here and enjoy. We were served Sunday lunches consisting of 4 roasts and we all finished the lot. It's home cooked, nice and hot and served by very welcoming staff. Excellant value for money and would definately be back.

Lovely setting in the beautiful village of Thrussington, traditional English pub decor, very warm and friendly atmosphere, good traditional menu, dishes like plaice and chips, ham egg and chips, gammon and pineapple. Good selection of beers and very reasonable prices! Enjoy!

No es el mejor pub en el pueblo. El personal es agradable bebidas son baratos. Y sólo se puede pagar en efectivo ya que no hay máquina de tarjeta ten en cuenta que no hay cajeros automáticos en el pueblo o cerca de las aldeas. Bonito jardín del pub es muy viejo y no la escuela ha tenido una renovación de al menos el 80 pero no puedes equivocarte para tomar un trago barato.

Great place Mandy & Bob are publicans with lots of experience - great hospitality and a really good garden to sit out in - it's beautiful and not what a lot of other pubs have these days.

Este pub tiene todo lo que deseo en un local - el propietario (Bob) siempre tiene tiempo para charlar, y la casera (Mandy) hace más de trabajo y mantiene un ojo en Bob así. Ahora han estado allí por unos 30 años y es un gran valor añadido a toda la comunidad. Ahora estoy bienvenido en el bar local a pesar de ser un "extraño" y probablemente sólo visitar una vez al mes. La comida es buena y todo lo que desea con un par de copas y charlar. Las mejores características son el pequeño par de tijeras que viene con el tazón de sobrecitos de salsa, y la parada de autobús justo fuera.

Este pequeño pub familiar ofrece comidas sencillas pero bien cocinadas, recién preparado y a la orden. También se puede conseguir una cob generosa y un plato de patatas fritas por sólo £5 y la cerveza es muy buena. escapada mire mucho un paraíso escondido, pero el personal y los lugareños muy acogedor

Nunca nos ha hecho sentir tan distante en cualquier bar/pub/restaurante. El pub casera nos ignoró y era tan grosera cuando finalmente lo hizo llegar su atención. que nunca recomendaría este lugar a cualquiera, el personal parece discriminar a las familias con hijos (que tenían se comportan bien) y grupos de personas (es decir Cualquiera que nosotros no local o en un grupo de más de una persona!)

Fuimos al pub para el almuerzo y me dijeron que ya no nos local sólo nos podíamos pagar con dinero en efectivo. La comida era bueno, así que no hay quejas. El personal parecía cálido con nosotros hacia el final de nuestra visita. La joven camarera fue muy agradable.

Este es un pub del pueblo en la antigua tradición donde la comida es preparada por el dueño y el pub es dirigido por el dueño.

A smile to visitors wouldn't go amiss. Felt it catered for locals more than tourists.Pub closed in the afternoon and when we enquired about what time they serve Sunday lunch until we were told very curtly that it finishes by 5 or sooner if the food runs out!

So many pubs now try and sell complicated meals at high prices. The Blue Lion just sells simple Pub Grub, at very reasonable prices. If you are looking for fancy food, then head on down the road, but if you are looking for some great beer, and genuine friendly surroundings, and plentiful, good quality food, then it is worth making the effort to get to the Blue Lion. I had the simple sausage & chips, while my wife had a lasagna. For a couple of beers each, and a filling meal, it didn't cost much more than 20 quid.

Just back form the UK, we grew up in this area and the Blue lion is all thats good in a real local pub, good beer, local folks and real local owners, no frills this is a local boozer and all the better for it

We use this pub/restaurant quite often.,although we do not live in the village - Staff are ok - but not especially jolly, maybe because we're not local..!! However - the food quality is good and at very reasonable prices...but No Cards accepted - cash only & they serve between 7pm & 9.30pm.There is ample parking too..

Friendly locals, very welcoming pub - definitely the one to visit in Thrussington. Service with a smile and no hanging around waiting for a drink.

Good simple pub grub - my Wife enjoys the ham, egg & chips - while I usually go for steak, chips & peas with maybe a pepper or Stilton sauce. Make sure you bring ample cash though as they don' t take any cards. Small friendly pub serving a good pint of Pedigree bitter - lovely!
