Lovely traditional meals for a mid range price. What really impressed me was the Lovely waitress who was SO welcoming to my dog. She brought out a 'plate of ham' which was basically the size of a gammon! the staff were very casual and friendly and the food was clean and lovely. Would definitely go again!

My husband & I popped in for a coffee & ended up staying for lunch…… We both had a fish finger sandwich on brown bread which was simply delicious & really touched the spot! Everything was fresh & well presented - fries & a side salad with dressing. Vast choice of drinks, the staff were warm, friendly & approachable- in fact nothing was too much trouble. Lovely, clean, light, airy atmosphere- a joy to dine in your establishment = We will be back for sure! Thank you very much.

Booked to have Father's day lunch today. We have been a couple of times before and the food has always been great. However 4 mains ordered two of which were Fish n Chips. This was pretty shocking, the actual fish was thick and tender, however the batter was completely soggy and soft. Pressing down on the fish with my fork caused a serious amount of liquid to come out. Both dishes were the same. Clearly they are bought in frozen and then heated, they were not freshly dipped and battered, this was obvious from the uniformity of the batter they looked like supermarket bought. Both were sent back, and I was given something else, however the other dish was not refunded as my father had eaten most of it (because he's too polite to complain). When we said we were unlikely to be back the waitress wasn't bothered, rather than apologizing and trying the make up for it and entice us back again. Pretty poor show considering the place only has a handful of table full, on what should be one of their busiest days. Shame as we liked this pub and always recommended the food to others.

Well if there is a race to the bottom this is it. From entering the pub and first engagement with the staff we knew we were in for an interesting visit. This was a first time visit as we were staying at an adjacent hotel. We were asked if we had booked, we said no but as there is table for 4 free could we sit. We collected our menus and asked what was a recommendation to eat and were told the traditional fish&chips and lasagne were good. So bolstered by this 3 of us chose the fish and chips and 1 lasagne. The food arrived and the fish seemed an odd shape, sort of flat with a not very fluffy batter, this definitely was not cod or haddock, the fish was slimy in texture not very flaky and had a strange musty taste and seemed not fresh or freshly battered. - we all wondered what sea it had come from. We all left a large portion of fish. The lasagne was bland, not inspiring and small in size. On leaving we asked what the fish was, we were told they didn’t know but it came from the cash & carry. We rest our case.

Last minute decision on a Sunday morning to take my Mum for lunch and as we live locally, The Swan was ideal. Arrived at 12 for our booking, the bar staff were so incredibly friendly and smiley which was so lovely! Ordered drinks and were shown straight to our table. We ordered our roasts, I had glazed ham and Mum had the lamb. The food came out within 15 minutes and there was so much of it. Cooked to perfection. Once again, the staff were so nice and couldnt do enough for us. I absolutely cannot recommend this venue more. Great experience, amazing staff! Looking forward to going back

Recently attended the Swan for a family Sunday lunch and we were pleasantly surprised. We had a table of 10 and the menu offered a range of traditional Sunday roasts. All food was brought out at the same time, as expected, although there were a variety of different dishes. The rare roast beef and lamb shank were particularly enjoyable although the feedback for the turkey and pork were equally positive. There isn't a large range of ale however the Courage Best bitter was clear and looked after. The pub itself feels like it could do with a bit of a freshen up, the toilets are tired and a bit smelly, only the urinals working in the gents. The staff were ok but it didn't feel like a warm welcome and they didn't go above and beyond the call of duty with service, despite still applying a 10% service charge to a £300 bill. Its not a cheap menu and although you don't mind paying for good food you are also paying for the experience of going out and the ambiance. I don't mind music in a pub but it did feel like to chef had their iPod plugged into the rest of the pub as we went from the likes of S-Club 7 to Drowning Pool - Let the bodies hit the floor, which isn't really what you want on a Sunday lunch with your 70 year old parents after attending a nativity at the local church! They have the hard bit off to a tee (the food) it wouldn't take much to sort out the rest.

This place has the cheek to call itself a hotel. It's more like a doss house. Rooms are filthy, in a separate building, Neither bedside lamps worked, Radiator (not working) lying on floor, furniture (I use the term loosely) cheap, shabby junk. Bathroom, horrendous, Carpets, dirty and stained, Bed-No sheets. NO BREAKFAST!!!! Despite this not being mentioned on the website. Then the bar area....grubby, dirty stained carpets, sticky dirty table tops, no where to sit if your just having a drink, what a really horrible place, how it's allowed to operate is beyond me.

The place feels like it has potential however this isn't being utilised. It feels like it needs a good clean at the very least. The children's play area feels extremely tired and gruby. I was also disgusted to find at least 4 dog poos around the bottom of the slide and by the seating areas. When I mentioned this to the bar tender she looked a bit vacant. I reiterated that it wasn't just disgusting but a hazard to children and could effect their sight. She said she would feed it back to management. I expected for someone to come out and clear it up or close the area and perhaps offer us a drink on the house or at least an apology. This did not happen, despite us being around for another 45 minutes finishing drinks.A friend visited a week ago and found exactly the same. What is going on. In my view the pub is lacking care and direction from management. The garden should be regularly checked, also the play area desperately needs replacing or at the least tidying up.

A terrible experience staying overnight at the Swan in Almondsbury, Bristol. Opening the room door was like entering a 1930s film set. The smell of stale cigarette smoke hit me. It was 11 deg C, so I turned on the wall heater. No luck there. A small oil heater was supplied, hopelessly inadequate to the task. I went to hang my suit up; alas no coat hangars. The bedside light didn’t work. A spare gave off a minimal glow. No plug in the sink. Luckily I had my leatherman with me and I managed to coax some warm water out of the shower. It sorted with a noise like a 50 Cal machine Gun. Reception and bar service were terrible. For those seeking a Fawlty Towers theme experience, this is for you! In pythonistic terms, if there had been a bidet, no self respecting lizard would have graced it with a visit! An experience, never to be repeated! Roly.

We had a team meal here at the start of September which was very average for 10 people. A colleague used a business card to pay and gave me the receipt which I looked at when doing expenses the following week. To my surprise we were charged 50 pounds on top of our meal for two steaks that we never had! I have tried to contact the Restaurant on several occasions who's response was that they would get back to me. They have now simply ignored my many follow ups and have kept this 50 pounds over payment. Terrible customer service. We will not be attending again!

The hotel is a bit underwhelming from the outside as you approach it from the M5 motorway. The small gravel car park left me wondering what sort of venue we had booked for an informal business meeting. However, once we were at our table the food and service were very good. I ordered the mussels to start with and the Brixham Crab risotto to follow. Others in our party had the soup and the ham, egg and chips. The food was excellent and the service was prompt and attentive. Overall, a very good experience that I'm pleased to recommend.

We were allowed to check in early which was good but no breakfast provided due to Covid, which I feel was a bit of an excuse to hide behind as all other meals are offered. The price we paid was cheap, but the valance was filthy and the edges if the carpets had a think layer of dust. There was a sign on the bathroom window saying do not open as it will fall out! Two bedside lights neither of which worked. There were a number of people arriving to one of the rooms at 6am and they played loud music and talking/screaming . Obviously the hotel cannot control who stays here and what they chose to do, but I wanted sleep and hardly got any, so was not impressed with the noise disturbance. I wouldn't stay here again.

This pub is so underrated! Been coming here om and off for 8 years. Since new management took over couple years ago the quality of food has improved massively.Visited today for Roast Lunch. Served rare beef and hands down best roast dinner ive ever had in a pub. Perfect pink beef, fresh vegetables crunchy not boiled to death like some pubs do, massive yorkshires. Didnt once moan when we asked for a plate for our youngest to share a meal with us instead of buying her one. Asked for extra veg and a new bowl was sent out straight away.Only gripe is the automatic 10%sService charge added on to the bill. I note review below stated about it and the bill doesnt say its discretionary. We paid it anyway as the service was great and they had accommated a short notice booking. However from someone who worked 6yrs in hospitality a tip should be based on how well think the service is not automatically added..it causes awkwardness for those who then have to ask to have it removed . The customer should determine the tip and how much not the establishment.

Pre lockdown, we use to visit the Swan frequently, at least 4 times a month. Today we my wife and I visited for the first time after a number of months. It seems that the Swan has changed ownership. We found that that there is now a 10% automatic service charge added to the bill.It is a shame that mandatory 10% service charge is now applied. We will now go to The Bowl at Lower Almondsbury. Very disappointed for this culture of imposing service charges. Totally understand the impact of COVID, however, we haven't experience such service charges merely for a pub Sunday lunch. We normally tip an optional if we receive good service.

We actually ended up going here by mistake, as I thought I had booked a different pub. I was however not disappointed, I can honestly say they served some of the nicest pub food I have ever had. Even my child's portions were a decent size and good quality. Three of us had the Lamb rump which just do die for, simply melt in the mouth. My wife had the tuna steak which was a special, she has had a lot of bad tuna steaks, this did not fall into that category, she said it was one of the best she has had. The deserts were also amazing, best sticky toffee pudding i've had by far. The only thing I could fault really was that the we had to ask if there were specials, the waiter did not offer this up until asked. Staff were really friendly, and the food came quickly. They also offer a great steak menu, including a Tomahawk which at £34 isn't cheap, but if its like all the other food, then I am sure its worth it for a special occasion. We will definitely be back.

It's a funny phase we are going through now & not the best of times for anyone really. We've been enjoying going out again & eating out at various old favourites so decided to try the Swan again, which we always enjoy. It was marvellous! On arrival I was pleased to see everything in place for CV19. No chance of missing the hand sanitiser & other items at the door. The same with the Track & Trace book. Pubs are for adults. It is not necessary for a business to waste money in these hard times to employ a staff member to police the book on a full time basis, you can see what is required of you, just do it. We'd booked a table which I feel is better in these strange times. All was in place for us & we were shown to our reserved place. I noticed how busy they were (first week of the Government's ten quid deal) & worried how they would cope, especially with more to do with CV19 etc. My worries were unfounded. All followed smoothly & timely, drinks, food order taken. Our lovely waitress Cat couldn't do enough for us, she was running around fetching & carrying & served everything delightfully. Now the food, that was amazing, we've been out for lots of dinners post lockdown, making the most of it & this was the best we've had. He had the Cornish Hake & I had the Pressed Lamb shoulder. Both were fantastic, so much taste & fresh as fresh. The accompaniments perfect. We had our wine by the glass for my husband's health reasons & his Rioja Crianza & my Argentinian Merlot were exceptional, served at just the right temperature in lovely goblets. Cat looked after us so nicely & was friendly & kind. I wanted to be sure to mention her on here. I find the reviews moaning about CV19 arrangements to be woefully ill-informed. They are doing everything that is required of them & more. I felt safe, relaxed & well cared for. And we shall be back very very soon. Thank you to the Swan & to Cat x

My visit to The Swan was the first time I had been out since March so I was feeling a bit vulnerable. There was hand sanitiser just inside the door but the pump on the wall had dripped all over the wall and not been cleaned up. The book to sign yourself in also had a hand sanitiser but no one was checking that everyone had entered their details. We were told to sit anywhere as it wasn’t busy and that someone would come with menus . We sat for about 10 minutes and a drinks order was taken , we got the drinks then waited a further 10 minutes whereupon a young lady asked if we were ready to order, after our food order was taken we then waited approx 30 minutes for our food. It didn’t help that people who came in after us got their food before us. I did notice that salt & pepper pots were not disposable so was not confident to use them . I saw no sign of any table cleaning even though there was a dirty table near us. I have been to The Swan on a number of occasions but won’t be going back . I have to say the food was very good. It would have helped if the staff had been wearing some form of PPE even though it’s not a regulation .

I had the crab cakes as a starter and the chicken Caesar salad for my main course, both were delicious. Not sure why there are some comments on here regarding lack of PPE..?! If you asked any of the staff, they all said there were no government regulations regarding PPE but that they were sanitising everything and taking the necessary precautions. I spent over two hours there and I constantly saw tables and door handles being wiped, and there are sanitiser stations as well. I’m sure the people complaining about lack of PPE aren’t wearing any themselves! If you’re worried about covid a pub is not the place to be! Overall very impressed, will definitely recommended to my friends and family!

I recently stayed at this hotel for 1 night, the room was quite dark and gloomy, the bathroom floor vinyl had ridden up and was a trip hazard, the taps to the sink were really difficult to come on and then when they did come the water spouted everywhere, the corners of the shower were thick with black mould. The bedroom was ok but the bedside tables were stacked on top of each other? and pulled forward so you had to scoot down the bed to get out of it.The room did have a fan which was a saving grace as I was unable to open the window due to the noise of the traffic (not the hotels fault). The food was quite nice, tasty and laid out pleasantly on the plates. The vegetarian options were lacking I must say, thank goodness it was curry night otherwise the menu choices were scant, and no vegetarian options for a starter?Breakfast was again quite pleasant but it did say on the menu that the juices/pastries were all self service, this turned out to be incorrect and you had to order everything from the waiter which was a bit odd.Veggie breakfast was ok, never had halloumi for breakfast though??I would stay here again though, for the food only. Unless of course they refurb the rooms which is greatly needed!

Went to the Swan last night with daughter and 2 grandsons, we were a bit early and were shown to our table which was laid out for 3 people not 4! Noticed that in the window on the large round table a couple were sat just drinking, would have made more sense to have sat us on the larger table as it was quite a squash on the smaller table, (especially when the food arrived). Ordered drinks and had to ask for menus. The place was quite busy and once we ordered we waited for our food. Food came and there had been a small mix up with sauces, but this was rectified, grandson asked for a cocktail and was told they were far too busy to make up a cocktail (he did get one later). Food was fantastic, couldn't complain at all, cooked to perfection. We ordered desserts and was waiting and the young waiter came up and I said we are waiting on for our desserts, he quickly went and got them. One small query the steaks were 2 for 1?? I have been working out the bill at home (grandson paid and left the bill on table) and I don't think the 2 for 1 was applied, maybe I am wrong? You desperately need more staff for your busy nights, there were only 3 of you on last night and to be honest you couldn't cope very well, the young lad needs a lot more training in my opinion.

Bar and atmosphere was nice on arrival. Two in the group ordered roasts, which in fairness seemed great value and looked great when they came out. We ordered two kids pizza meals, the waitress informed us that it was a ciabatta pizza as apposed to pizza base.....not a problem. When the kids meals came out it was two chunks of french bread with a hunk of cheap cheese melted on each and a slice of tomato....essentially cheese on toast. Between us we ordered three beef and blue burgers, one of which we asked if could be made dairy free. When the food came they missed a burger off the order, and the dairy free burger came out in a gluten free bun but still had blue cheese on it. Partner didn't realise until he was partway through the meal. So we had to wait for an extra burger, and another had to be made from scratch to be dairy free - he started his meal after all of us had finished! Food wasn't really as described - the burgers were served in basic seeded baps (not brioche buns) and very little extras with just a few scattered chips for £13....really poor value.

The food I would give a 4, the room 2, so 3 the middle score. Once all the rooms are refurbished I'm sure it would be a solid 4. The room was clean but very in need of refurbishment. The food both in the evening and at breakfast was of good quality, really enjoyable, quick service, I'd eat here again no problem.

We are a group of 9 friends who meet up a couple of times a year for a meal out. In 28 years of meeting up this was the worst experience and meal we’ve ever had. We decided to miss starters and go for a dessert but out of the 9 main courses only 2 were any good, (2burgers) so we didn’t bother staying for dessert. Here’s our catalogue of problems / complaints. We did raise them with the server and manager but that just irritated us even more with their responses.

I'm sorry I have to write this but the whole meal and attitude of the manager was appalling. Three of us ordered the chicken in cider and tarragon, the chicken was so tuff we could hardly cut it let alone chew it. The manager was fair and asked us to choose something else,so we all chose a Beef burger. After a long wait 3 chorizo and chicken burgers arrived ( why would we order chicken again?)we didnt complain until I put my first mouthful in and pulled out a hair, I then put mine to one side. To our complete shock my friend found another hair in hers( different colour and size). The manager was very rude to us and kept saying" so what do you want me to do about it" in a horrible manner. To top it all he then came back with a long blonde hair saying it was mine!!!! ( the hair I found was short) I could go on and on about his attitude but all I can say is dont waste your money the food we had was not good at all and the managers attitude was absolutely appalling.

Visited The swan this evening to have a meal. The member of staff was very attentive and his customer service skills were excellent. My wife had a really nice steak pie with all the trimmings but I unfortunately had a rump steak, I ordered it medium but as I started to eat it it became evident that it was not in fact a rump steak but more like a piece of brisket. I have never eaten such a poor piece of meat in my life. I highlighted this to the server but he advised that it was a piece of rump and that they serve a lot of them like this. I didn’t wish to make a fuss but it was evident that the piece of meat that was served was not Rump steak. We paid in excess of £50 on a couple of meals and drinks and to be honest I don’t think we recieved value for money.

We had a few drinks and took up the offer of the two for one steak. I don't usually go for steak as frequently end up with it cooked to well done or worse whilst I prefer it rare. I asked for medium rare and had pink steak just off bleeding which tasted divine. The rest of the food was also just as good how do you you make a slice of tomato and mushroom taste so good. We had amazing chips and halomini fries too. It was very busy and the staff ran around looking after everyone all night without complaint or signs of weariness. It's too good and we will want to go everyweek. I will be dreaming of that steak for weeks. Thanks guys.

We had a family booking for Sunday lunch to celebrate a birthday. We arrived and were shown directly to our table. We arrived first and the waiter ask what we would like to drink. We put our order in and waited for the rest of the family. We found the waiting staff to be very good and when we were all seated and all had drinks our food order was taken. The food arrived quite quickly and I must say was very tasty and plentiful. Lots of nice veg and well cooked meat . My grandson had a small meal as he’s only a toddler but it was quite big and he tucked right in . Nice service and good selection food . We will be back .

This pub has certainly been through some ups and downs over the recent years and based on our visit recently looks to be on the down again I’m afraid. The outside painting on the building was the high point of our visit on a sunny Friday evening where all seemed set fair but although there were about a dozen or so people drinking outside during our visit only three tables were in use inside for food which could be due to the overpricing and small portions. Some furniture looked past its best, the wallpaper was coming away from the walls in places and the windows well let’s just say that Windolene is not a friend of this establishment. Why you would spend so much on the outside and so little on the inside is anyone's guess! Added to this the fact that only two people were serving which a for a Friday early evening seemed like maybe they were used to this kind of attendance. Wouldn’t take much to get it back on track but probably wouldn’t rush back or recommend.

Met with family as we do and this time enjoyed a Sunday roast. It was simply amazing, lots of yummy food all cooked to perfection. It was a warm evening and we enjoyed drinks outside but ate inside as we also had a birthday cake to enjoy and didn’t want the candles to blow out- outside. There seemed only one waiter as it wasn’t busy but boy he was in gear, we were never kept waiting with anything. We will be back, it’s our half way off the M5 meet up. Well done team, keep it up. All the best, the Sandersons

Visited last Sunday with family for lunch. Choice of drinks was very good, from real ales and ciders on pump. We chose roast lamb which was delicious. Fresh vegetables and home made gravy accomponed the well presented dish. I recommend this pub to anyone looking the staff where very welcoming and friendly. 5 stars

Food was reasonably good. Presented well, but while the food cooked to a good standard, some very basic errors were made. Main meal wasn't warm enough, compounded by the plates being cold. Conversely, our cold pudding were served on warm plates. Food lacked flavour, but elements of it demonstrated thought. Appears that the menu has been well thought out, but that the execution of it was left wanting.

In the last few years we have eaten here about 5 times before, mainly on a Sunday, and the food, whilst not cheap, has always been exceptional. Unfortunately today we fell it has taken a bit of a backward step. I'm not saying it was bad as it wasn't but when you have been used to excellence, average to good just doesn't cut it. I had the beef at £13.50 and my wife had the nut cutlet, (lamb is £16). The beef was tasty but 2 smallish slices was a lot less than I have had here before. We paid £3 extra for cauliflower cheese which was hard and appeared to be cauliflower with a bit of melted cheese on with no sign of a proper roux cheese sauce. The rest of the veg, which unusually included beetroot was again a bit on the hard side. The 3 roast potatoes we had were average and not a patch on the crispy, fluffy ones we have been used to. The Yorkshire puddings are great, as was my wife nut cutlet and the staff polite and attentive but unfortunately where as this pub was a shining star it has now become a run of the mill eatery.

Had to stay near Aztec West, but didn’t want to pay the price of the Spa. Arrived late, in the dark and found it difficult to find the entrance to the car park. This was out the back and was not very well lit and very uneven. This brought you into the back of the pub to check in. The accommodation was in two separate ‘houses’ with a front door which was open and the your own door. This didn’t make me feel very safe as there was actually no staff actually in the building and the door was kept closed when I went out.

we arrived as a party of 10, after making a booking some two weeks previous, we were ushered to our table as the "kitchen was ready". Of the 10 meals served 6 were roast beef, all of these were inedible. The beef was grossly undercooked and the vegetables cold, all meals were taken back to the kitchen to be changed, when they were returned most of the beef had been grilled. The manager was surly to the point of being rude and the waiting staff disinterested. We made a small underpayment and will not be returning. As regulars we were disappointed.

We arrived at a restaurant in Thornbury to find it flooded on an 18th birthday party . We called The Swan who at a moments notice arranged a table for 11 , all the trimmings and stepped in to make the evening special. Our family regularly visit and the welcome is always warm . The service is first class. The food is excellent and beautifully presented and there is a range of real ales and a huge selection of gins .This pub is well worth a visit , it’s location near the interchange of M5 /M4 makes it convenient and there is loads of parking . Highly recommended.

What a joy to eat in a friendly, welcoming pub restaurant with excellent roasts, great veg all at a cracking price. With a roast and a fruit crumble pud for £10 I’m really not sure I could cook it for that! Besides, it tastes SO much better when you’ve not had to cook it

Have been here three times before in last year and food and service generally excellent. Latest visit was less good. There has been a revamp with part of restaurant now a slightly strange lounge area and huge A3 menus a bit like a beefeater. It proved really quite difficult to order and get a wine list and then a bottle of wine which seemed to cause much confusion. For our party of eight overall impression of food was it had gone from good to average but 2 of party had the chicken korma special which was poor. This turned out to be a roast chicken leg with korma sauce on top. And some rice. When the waiter collected the plates at the end of the meal one of party told him they had never had korma with chicken on the bone and that it was really bland and asked for chef to be told. Waiter gave no real response and no one came back to us or offered anything in recompense. All a bit of a shame as this was the third visit we had made as a group spending c£250 each time and the consensus is to go somewhere else next time as things had clearly changed for the worse at The Swan.

Myself and my family have been using the Blue bowl in Hanham regularly for about 2 years now which speaks volumes, the staff are always very friendly and hard working, the standard of food is very good especially for the price we pay. We always look forward to our night out there and have no intentions of changing anytime soon. Keep up the good work.
