Had such a lovely afternoon. Very warm and friendly welcome, had a delicious 3 course meal on saturday afternoon, and our 4 legged friend was spoilt with his water bowl and many treats and fusses. Our fish and chips was 1st class with service to match. Such a cosy and friendly atmosphere, we will most certainly be back. Thank u for a lovely afternoon.

Went over the bridge to the Boars Head this Monday evening for a birthday meal with the wife. This was my first visit after many recommendations from friends and neighbours. Our welcome was very friendly & accommodating (we arrived extremely early) as were all the staff, the environment & atmosphere is super pleasant, with the meal & service being exceptional. Many thanks to the Boars Head Team. We will most certainly be back & we won’t be on our own.

Came here as a table of 9 for a special 60th birthday. We were seated in the snug area which acted as a nice private dining area. We had my young niece with us who also happens to have a birthday soon, and the staff made a lovely gesture to bring out some balloons for the table which she loved. Most of the table opted for a roast which was scrummy. You could tell the roast potatoes had been cooked fresh and they were a solid 9/10. We also had a side of the parsnip crisps which were insane. There was a few delays in getting drinks but we were happy to wait given how busy the place was (although I will say it wasn’t uncomfortably busy at all!) Right at the end the staff came out with 3x desserts and sang happy birthday which we were not expecting at all and was really sweet of them to do. Generally a very positive first visit and will return in the future!!

The welcome, communication, and food were all good on the day. Sadly, a mistake was made on the bill and noticed afterwards. The service has been a lot less fine since: An unanswered e-mail, a "we're looking into it" response from a follow up call, and another email sent two months after the fact, and we're now at the point of disillusionment and a bitter taste being left after what was a very good on-the-day group meal.

I meet here with my ex Army colleagues every other month. There are quite a few of us and we have a section of the pub to ourselves. Menu choice is vast and have never been disappointed with any meal. The owners and staff are so warm and friendly it's always a pleasure to dine there, they work very hard to make sure that your dining experience is first rate every time and cheerfully accommodate any needs you may have. You are never rushed and yesterday stayed over 4 hours just eating and being with friends and chatting after our meal. I had no idea how long we were there due to the relaxing atmosphere and no urgency by staff for us to leave. Great food great owner great staff

Not impressed with the food here or how it's priced! ham egg and chips £16.95...chips not cooked properly and much of the ham inedible! steak and ale pie and mash at £18.95, is overpriced again and all vegetables served 'al dente' at best 'simply not cooked properly at worst' along with lots of gristle in the actual pie. It's a shame, because whilst people are prepared to pay a little more because of the location...I wouldn't think the restaurant will get much repeat business. along with 2 soft drinks =way over £40, for what was essentially, largely inedible meals. AFTER A VERY TERSE FACTUALLY INCORRECT REPLY RECEIVED TO MY HONEST REVIEW AND FEEDBACK! IT READ WE TRUST YOU WON’T VISIT AGAIN. very aggressive response!

So pleased we got recommended this little find whilst staying at the Travelodge down the road. All the staff were so lovely and gave you time for a nice chat. We loved hearing about the history of the pub over the years. We’d had a long day travelling down from Hull and walking the offas dyke walk so ready for some good hearty food. It was so delicious. Well done for running a great pub with a fab team around you. I think you need to do some classes on how to run a good pub.

After a long walk from Severn Beach Duke the spaniel and myself received a big welcome from the team at Boars Head. Whenever we get within half a mile of The Boars Head Duke stands up and gets excited! It has been out pub for many years - sometimes alone and others with friends. The pub has a lot of character and is always friendly and loves dogs especially Duke. Today we walked to the Boars head from Severn beach on a wild weathered morning walking the two bridges loop. The weather was throwing everything at us and when Duke recognised where we were he yanked at the lead. The food was lovely as usual and Duke enjoyed his sausage in gravy which set us up for our walk back to Severn beach. I live in Thornbury and unable to drive at the moment however when I stay with friends in Severn beach the walk to Boars Head is something I look forward to.

Having recently moved back to the area after more than 20 years away, we were eager to explore the local pubs and see how they’ve changed (or stayed the same). On a whim, we decided to visit Boars Head in Aust, and honestly, we were absolutely blown away by the experience. This place is a gem that truly stands out from the rest. Let’s be honest, walking into a pub on a Monday at midday can sometimes feel a bit… underwhelming. Many pubs tend to be quiet, cold, and lack atmosphere at this time of the week. But from the moment we stepped through the front door at Boars Head, we were greeted with an entirely different vibe. The roaring fire immediately created a cozy and inviting atmosphere, and a lovely member of staff welcomed us with a genuine smile. Despite not having booked (and noticing that many of the tables were reserved—even on a Monday!), they were more than happy to accommodate us. That level of ease and hospitality is something we don’t take for granted and instantly set the tone for what turned out to be a fantastic visit. One of the standout features of Boars Head is its quirky, character-filled interior. It feels like a refreshing break from the cookie-cutter, overly modernised pubs that can feel a bit soulless. Instead, this pub has a personality—it’s warm, inviting, and has that perfect blend of old-school charm with thoughtful touches throughout. We couldn’t help but notice how much care and thought had gone into making the space feel both unique and welcoming. It’s the kind of pub that you instantly feel at home in, whether you’re visiting for a quick drink or a full meal. Now onto the food! The menu was extensive, with a wide variety of dishes to suit all tastes. Since we’re not the biggest eaters, we decided to share a curry, and the staff couldn’t have been more accommodating. Without hesitation, they offered us a spare plate so we could easily split the meal. And let me tell you, that curry was absolutely superb—hands down the best pub curry we’ve had in years. The flavours were spot on, and it was clear that great care had gone into its preparation. It’s rare to find food this good in a pub, and it left us eager to come back and try more dishes from their impressive menu. Throughout our visit, the staff struck the perfect balance between friendly and professional. They were attentive without being overbearing, and it was clear they genuinely cared about ensuring every customer had a great experience. We also had the pleasure of meeting the landlords, who are absolute characters in the best possible way. Their passion for the pub and its community shone through, and they’ve clearly created a space where everyone feels welcome. Before leaving, we took a quick look at the beer garden, and it’s safe to say we’ll be back in the summer! The outdoor space is beautifully set up and even features a Tiki bar, which adds a fun and unique touch. If you want to know how good a pub really is, visit it first thing on a Monday, when the weekend rush has passed, and the staff might be catching their breath. Well, Boars Head absolutely nails it. From the warm welcome to the delicious food, the quirky interior, and the fantastic staff, it’s everything you could hope for in a local pub—and more.

I am giving this place four stars even though I didn't actually go into the pub (we had our meal on the patio) The staff are both thoughtful and helpful. One server even brought out a bowl of water for our dog without us even asking. Lovely food. Went again recently.. when in this time the only thing I can add is that although the food is good quality it is a bit pricey. Over £17 4 vegetable lasagne with a tiny side salad. All desserts were over £7. On the plus side you can order ice cream at £1 for scoop 😉

(3.5 really) Local pub serving pub grub. Warm welcome and they kindly found us a table as we hadn't booked (unfortunately right by the toilets but we had had a long walk and popped in on the off chance of a table so took what we could!). Unfortunately the food wasn't really that great. We both had sandwich and chips (you can have it with salad or chips). I had the gf option but even by gf standards the bread was dry. Normal bread option was good and a very generous portion but the chips although plentiful were average - tasted of old frying oil. Sauces were just packets so chips were not helped by the very cheap ketchup and mayo sachets. Bit of a shame as they were full and some slightly better quality would be a significant improvement. We are likely to go back if we do the same walk as there are not many options and Aust is a mid point.

We had 4 roasts, one trio of meats, two beefs, and one chicken. Portions were good, and the meat was beautifully cooked. It came with two Yorkshires, extra gravy, and lots of vegetables. The other meals we had were two hunter's chicken, a kids nuggets and chips, scampi and chips, and two portions of cheesy garlic bread. All good portions, all lovely. We had desserts also and again, all lush. A lush afternoon, and we will be back!!!

Used the Boars Head as a stopover last night and it didn't disappoint. Nice atmosphere in the pub, with great food and plenty of choice on the menu and bar. The camping field is great and special bonus points were awarded by the kids for a bouncy castle in the beer garden! Will definitely use again.

We enjoyed being in the garden and the music was very nice. We've been to this pub many times over the years but it was an unpleasant surprise to find that all beers cost six pounds, including the same beer that we paid four pounds for in another pub in the area.

Absolutely wonderful Sunday Lunch. We were informed upon arrival that there would be a delay of around an hour for food. The staff communicated well and after a couple of drinks and a catch up with friends, dinner was served. All freshly cooked and delicious. Thank you Boars Head. Will definitely be returning

Writing this before we've even left! We have stumbled across a gold mine, the most friendly service, welcoming atmosphere and delicious food. The addition of a bouncy castle is amazing for the kids. The staff were the kindest and so attentive and we can't wait to visit again. Thank you!

10 of us turned up here yesterday mid afternoon and spent over £300 ,lovely welcome ,lovely atmosphere and lovely to see camping available in the back garden free if you are going to spend time in the pub and restaurant, all positive🤗 only two little complaints, plastic from a tupperware pot was found in one of the puddings 😬which we were offered a refund for but declined as everything else was exceptional, unfortunately we all left nearly all the amazing looking chips ,whilst plenty of them and very chunky, very dry in the middle ,hope this helps others wanting to visit here ,only posted a couple of pics as too many of us and too much food to describe ,overall lovely and well done 👏

Outstanding Service at The Willy Wicket! I had the pleasure of dining at The Willy Wicket with a party of five, and I must say, the service was absolutely exceptional! From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel welcome and well taken care of. A special mention goes to the assistant manager, Leaghanne, who truly went above and beyond to accommodate our needs. Her attention to detail, warm demeanor, and willingness to ensure everything was perfect made our visit all the more enjoyable. She checked in on us regularly, made excellent recommendations, and handled everything with such professionalism and care. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was cozy and inviting, and the overall experience was one we won’t forget. It’s rare to find such attentive service, and Leaghanne’s dedication truly set this visit apart. If you’re looking for great food and even better service, The Willy Wicket is the place to be! We will definitely be returning soon. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
