Great dinner here on Monday night, I’d never been before and left smiling and very full! ALL the staff were so friendly and attentive. We came for a work dinner with some guys who wanted to experience a ‘proper pub’ and we were not disappointed, warm and cosy inside, great atmosphere and all the food was exceptional. My pie and mash was one of the best I’ve had. Thankyou to the team at the Boards Head!

After visiting this pub several times during the summer and experiencing some wonderful sandwiches my wife and I decided to book a Sunday Lunch, all I can say was we were left feeling disappointed. The bland vegetables, thin gravy and roast potatoes that were not crispy. It left a bad taste in the mouth so to speak. From the phone call to our leaving, the service was fantastic. Even though they were obviously busy, the staff were incredibly welcoming and friendly. The decor is lovely and warm. The food...yum. We had 4 roasts, one trio of meats, two beefs, and one chicken. Portions were good, and the meat was beautifully cooked. It came with two Yorkshires, extra gravy, and lots of vegetables. The other meals we had were two hunter's chicken, a kids nuggets and chips, scampi and chips, and two portions of cheesy garlic bread. All good portions, all lovely. We had desserts also and again, all lush. A lush afternoon, and we will be back!!!

We have used this pub for nearly 40 years, but today’s visit means that it is now off our list forever. Had booked as a party of 6, so we didn’t walk in on the off chance. The menu isn’t a huge one, and first choice of starter was not available. Ordered second choice and waited considerable time before some starters arrived. Waited longer for remainder to be served. Eventually asked where other starters were …. Waited a bit longer only to be informed that second choice stater ( chicken goujons) also not available. Gave up on the starter. Main course arrived after another wait. Roasts were ok, but the chicken and mushroom? pie was served in a bowl with everything piled on top of each other. Had to ask for an extra plate to be able to deal with it. Pastry was too thick and difficult to cut. Felt sorry for the young staff who had to deal with all this. At no time did the “manager” come to deal with a clearly unhappy table. We did get a reduction on the bill, but we left knowing that we will never return. Many memories of meeting at this pub over the years. Chapter now closed.

After hearing great things about the place, was sadly set up for disappointment. Promptly greeted with my family on arrival (6.30pm last night) and shown to table, asked for drinks within 5mins. One other table dining in the small area from what we could see - can only assume outside garden area was busy for what was to follow.. Seemed to take too long for drinks to arrive for what I would deem prompt. All staff were friendly enough and you could tell it was a very local pub with that ‘click’ of conversations going on with patrons and I guess one of the owners. We had only ordered mains for myself, husband and two boys, but time kept ticking away.. After about 40mins there was interaction from a manager/owner who seemed to ott joke about the situation and said “thanks for our patience”..without further explanation as to what’s happening. After a further 20mins (1hr now) and random side order of garlic bread arrived, perhaps in the attempt to appease but should have been part of our mains - so thought yes finally.. kids were starving and thought Mains must be on the way. But no.. a further 20mins mains arrived. Food was good all round - tad overcooked steak to my liking and hard egg yolk, but by this point didn’t mind we were all hungry. Though perhaps providing steak knives would be helpful in future as I did leave half of it as simply couldn’t cut. We were checked back on no less than 4 times whilst trying to eat , where was the interaction & explanations during the last 1hr20mins? Certainly didn’t seem be a front of house staffing issue as a good 6 members where busy embarrassing the lady with happy birthday singing next to us. Something had clearly gone wrong in the kitchen, nearby table who must have arrived just before us had their starters, mains, desserts and paid the bill before we touched a bite. As we were nearing end of meal it was prime time and was busy, other diners being sat and overheard them being told of delays. Would have been nice if we were told of any delays or rather any explanation at all, but simply ignored. Not sure what we were expecting, but no real apology for crazy wait, no offer of a free drink or any sort of discount on the bill. Kinda left a sour taste about returning. I understand things can go wrong, kitchen staffing issue / unexpected delays but don’t leave customers hanging without a word, give people an informed decision at the start if there is a wait and we could have made an informed decision about staying or going. I’m an ex chef and restaurants manager of 25yrs I know the industry inside and out, just be upfront and honest and I know the tricks - the charm & smiles don’t wash with me, it may be embarrassing for the younger servers to have to deliver bad news to tables - but it would have been more a forgiving review

Made no sense and customers who will never return. Reply We were at the bar and ready to order the food required if there was a table. We were offered a table with high bar stool type chairs with a disability and limited mobility it was not suitable, the outside seating also not suitable as I have an allergy to insect bites, one very nice couple offered their table (we would not expect anyone else's table!) The lack of understanding comes from having 2 tables that were not being used! And wouldn't have been by the 3pm cut off!

Absolutely amazing place to go for a drink or food or both! My sister and her husband have been frequenting this place for years and highly recommended it.. Now I've been here myself I can see why! Everything about this place couldn't be any better and it's refreshing to know somewhere like the Boar's Head still exists in this day and age! The food is great, the drinks are reasonably priced and the entire team are just so welcoming and friendly. This is quite frankly the best place I've been to eat out in at least 20 odd years! 🙏

We went here for the first time as a meeting place to pick up the grandchildren on Good Friday . We were travelling from and back to Wiltshire , my daughter and son in law from the West Country en route to Wales . The staff could not have been more helpful and obliging both during the a telephone booking and whilst we were there. Due to heavy traffic my daughter and her family were more and more delayed . We ate at leisure and we were able to order their food and told , just let us know 15 mins before they are due to arrive ! Delicious, hot food arrived at the table , once they had arrived , toileted etc and were settled . This was much needed after a long family journey on the M5 on a bank holiday !! We were not hurried in anyway and we will definitely be going back. The pub is easy to find and very convenient for getting back into the M48 in both directions. It is by lovely quiet village setting so good for a dog walk too.

Lovely food and varied menu, but the desserts were very slow, had to chase them up and then they arrived promptly. Needs to get a bit better organised as it was busy but not absolutely full.

Garden Ctr is worth a visit. We went there to get some tropical fish from Parkers 🤔 Sadly Parkers are no longer tradeing.

Watch out for the excess car parking charges payable at the till on your way out if you dare to get comfortable and have more than one drink. The toilets were utterly disgusting. I definitely would not recommend this place.
