The Swan at Tytherington in South Gloucestershire

Stayed locally and thought we'd give this little gem a try! We are so glad that we did, we came back the following night. Fantastic food and drinks, amazing service and dog friendly. We will definitely be back again

Wow. We’ve been to The Swan several times now and cannot fault the food and service on any of our visits. The team are always friendly and welcoming and can’t do enough for you (even at the busiest Sunday serving times). The food is exceptional and my father-in-law declared it the best roast dinner he’s ever had!!

What incredible food! We came here a few times for dinner whilst on holiday and every meal we had was simply outstanding. The pies are just so good! The mushroom soup was just divine and the fish and chips was the best I've had anywhere. Absolutely loved it. The staff are lovely and even though I'm not local, I'd drive back. You can tell they care about the food they serve. It really was just perfect! Thank you.

Just had a fantastic roast lunch. Generous portions, delicious cheesy leeks and extra gravy! The puddings were also delicious. Lots of options for those with intolerances. The staff were very friendly and service was excellent. Very much enjoyed our meal and would recommend.

Had Sunday lunch here whilst on holiday in the area and it was fabulous. Delicious food, great portions, wonderful staff, and our dog was welcome too. A proper lovely pub. We came back for dinner later in the week and it was equally as good. Recommended.

There were 7 Humans and 5 dogs in our party, which we specified when booking. Having the dogs were important as we were saying goodbye to the foster doggie (guide dog). When we arrived the landlady rolled her eyes to a colleague and said loud enough for us to hear ‘we should have agreed to no dogs’, which obviously made us feel uncomfortable. The waitress was miserable and it just felt like we weren’t welcome. Food was 10/10 for me, only complaints were it wasn’t hot enough for some and the veggies were lacking, which was communicated to the land lady when we’re were able to give feedback, there were 2 bowls of leek in cheese sauce and 2 bowls of mixed veg, probably could have done with another 1 of each as we had to halve broccoli so everyone could have a little bit. The roasts do come out with an extra gravy boat but we asked for another which wasn’t brought until we asked again. When this was mentioned to the land lady she was quite defensive, instead of listening. Hoping it was just a bad day and will give them another go but, with low expectations. * staff did not try to make conversation * booking was done over the phone and asked if the venue was dog friendly etc. We did not at any time specify ‘one dog’ as per stated in other response.

The Swan told my grandson that the pub was dog friendly but when we arrived we’re given the cold shoulder. The meals weren’t very hot, the vegetables weren’t very plentiful. I have never been to The Sawn before and I will not be back. There were six adults and one teenager……And it wasn’t cheap!!!

What a wonderful surprise. A pub with good interior decor, nice garden with play equipment AND excellent food and service. I had the GF Fish and Chips, no sign of horrible over used oil, the batter, fish and chips had a lovely fresh taste. The ham, egg and chips and the faggots were also highly praised by my family. GF sticky toffee pudding was enormous so I cut it into thirds and shared it. Can’t recommend the Swan enough. Prices reasonable too.

Grown up kids and the dog - lovely food and great service . Recommend the nachos starter . Table a bit small for 5 of us but not a problem as we did ask for a table near entrance due to my wife’s mobility. Will return defo

My wife ordered the curry pie, and asked if the peas that came with the meal could be exchanged for an other vegetable as she does not like peas. Waiter said that they could offer a side dish of vegetables but there would be a charge. When the meal was presented the side dish was a small portion of cabbage on the plate, on getting the bill we had been charged £3.50 for a portion of spring vegetables which equated to a bit of cabbage, on paying the bill I challenge the waiter regards the portion size and cost but I still had to pay the £3.50 The waiter said he would pass on my comment to the chef, must admit we both enjoyed our meals but thought the service and customer relations was very poor

We go a few times a month, but last night a bit disappointing, belly of pork was a bit dry and crackling was soft , faggots were tasty but very dry , hardly any graving so I ask for a little bit more , but it didn’t arrive at the table , Overall not quite as good as it normally is , and there weren’t that many customers.

I was one of a large family group at a wake at the swan in tytherington earlier this month. I would like to thank the staff of The swan at the way they looked after us for the whole of the afternoon. The food and service were exemplary throughout. It could not have been an easy group for the staff to manage as some of the people just staid for a drink although the majority of us were there for a lunch. The staff were attentive and yet at the same time allowed us to have space to talk as a family group. I cannot recommend The Swan highly enough and would not hesitate to use them again. Thankyou to everyone at The Swan!

I booked for a table of 5 for Sunday lunch at The Swan as the in-laws were visiting for the day. I haven't eaten there for probably a good 10 years and it certainly didn't disappoint. Arriving just before our 12.30pm booking the place was packed. Seeing the size of the roasts on other tables we decided to forego a starter and go straight for the main. Our order of drinks and 3 x Roast Turkey and 2 x Roast Beef was taken by a lovely waitress and despite the pub being very busy both arrived promptly. The roast beef was melt in the mouth delicious and the turkey not at all dry. Lovely roast potatoes and huge Yorkshire puds accompanied by a big bowl of cheesy leeks (yummy) and another bowl containing a mix of cabbage, carrots & broccoli. Enjoyed by all. Desserts eaten were lemon tart, double chocolate brownie, apple & gooseberry crumble and a selection of Marshfield ice creams. All in all, one of the best roasts I've had in a long time eaten in a great village pub. We will definitely return, if not for the roast then midweek to see what else this great pub has to offer...

A friendly welcome to this pleasantly decorated pub/restaurant. We booked for lunch at 12.30 and there was hardly anyone there but in 30 minutes it almost filled up entirely. Food was excellent - chicken and chorizo pie. And all at a reasonable cost. Well worth a visit.

Enjoyed a fantastic meal (ox cheek in stout with ox cheek croquet for me, belly pork with bubble and squeak for himself). Food was delightful, beer was great and the service was lovely. Really nice feel. Will go back. Also, lots of gluten free options available.

Surprises at the recent reviews as our experience of a cosy atmosphere and great home cooked fish and chips together with an exceptional pie was excellent. To top it off my bakewell pie was excellent 👌. The ale could have tasted better for the great brands on offer but that’s being picky but mgmt may take a look . Recommended

Disappointing Sunday Lunch for Mothers Day for a family of 4. Roast potatoes arrived burnt and overdone - when mentioned to a staff member nothing was done about it. Incorrect drinks delivered. Staff members just standing around and not asking how our food was, or whether we wanted any drinks during our meal. Cappuccino arrived cold.

Have visited this popular and lively Pub on several occasions with a very favourable experience. Two couples went for a 7pm booked table and we had what can only be described as an excellent meal. The young Staff were really on the ball with friendly service and knowledge of the menu and wines etc. Two of us had the Steak and Mushroom pie, this was first rate in quality and texture. One member had the vegetarian lasagne, again another thumbs up. Lastly the gammon was really something, very large slice with great chunky chips etc. The Pub itself is really well laid out with a sensible distance between the tables and a clear bar area for service. Return visit, you bet.

We came here for somewhere different to go to celebrate a big birthday. Sadly we didn’t have a good time. The food was alright, unfortunately the homemade birthday cake we bought in to have after our meal wasn’t allowed!! We were not allowed the birthday cake due to it being the pubs policy!! Also they said at the end when we queried it that it’s a family pub! Clearly not when we were not allowed to eat some birthday cake! Also they said they give a free dessert! We were not shown any dessert menus and we were not told this until after the bill came: clearly don’t like having a party of 7 fully grown adults! Also the waiter with the pony tail in his hair cough and sneezed into his polo shirt a few times with a tea towel over his shoulder: how germ infested could that be? Unfortunately we WILL NOT BE RETURNING!! Do not go to this pub if you want to celebrate birthdays!!

Very impressed with the interior and atmosphere. Our first visit, meeting family for Sunday lunch. Food was very good and arrived quickly. Extra gravy without having to ask is a welcome touch. Portions are large. Just not as good as our local, but nevertheless, we would eat here again.

We visited the pub for a family meal a party of seven adults. A very nice pub, the staff were nice and friendly, we had a meal booked for 8pm but sat down at 8.20 due to the previous party over running. The waitress kept us informed and was very pleasant. We had three starters followed by various main meals, followed by tea, coffee, and alcoholic drinks, competitively priced. All in all a five star evening all round, we will definitely visit again.

The 1st time we came to The Swan was on 1st July 2023, the day we laid my wonderful MIL to rest at Woodlands, we were a very large group and we all said upon leaving how lovely the food was! And the welcoming friendly staff! On Sunday we came again 6 of us this time! For Sunday Roast! We had a Bottle of wine! 3 soft drinks! We all had a starter! Followed by a Roast! We chose Beef, Pork and Turkey! Myself and my Son had a Children’s Sunday Roast Meal, and again the portion size was great! We all had an extra portion of stuffing balls and crackling to share! The Roast came with lots of vegetables & leeks and a boat of gravy! Once again the Food was Hot and Tasty! And great portion sizes! We all especially loved the Gravy too! We had no room for dessert 🤣 The staff were very welcoming and friendly! And we will most certainly be back! Highly Recommended ❤️

Not been here for many years and very surprised to fine it be excellent. Great food and helpful/friendly staff. Booking is definitely a must as all tables were full with a good atmosphere. Its obviously just been decorated/refurbished.

Travelled up from Tenby to stay at Tortworth Court recently. I am very aware that although Tortworth Court accept dogs if you have one you are treated as second class citizens at meal times. Consequently we drove to The Swan for a meal. being a Monday evening I saw no reason to bother booking a table, big mistake very, very busy for reasons that soon became quite obvious. They were extremely helpful & accommodated my wife & I plus our fat Golden Retriever with out any fuss. We had an extremely pleasant evening, the food was both cooked & presented to perfection, the entire staff were efficient, polite & very friendly. Yep, travelling up to Tortworth Court again very soon & will be returning to The Swan for our evening meal, however, I will book a table in advance this time.

Went with friends and paid £27 .00 for a steak that was so tough I took it home and fed it to my dog.unfortunate as the other 3 in our party enjoyed their food. I should have complained as soon as the steak arrived but as I was in company it would have been awkward. We’ve eaten there before but alas not in a rush to return. If they had not charged for the bad meal I think it would have made a difference.They could see clearly that something was wrong as the meat was barely touched.

Excellent food and excellent service . Staff could not have done more for my family and specifically my wife who is recovering from a medical issue and mobile only with a Walker . Also very accommodating with our dog , lots of room at table . Menu very good - we had fish and chips x 2 and a bbq chicken sandwich- all very good . Will defo return soon .

We cannot fault the food at the swan at all but the attitude of the management leave a bit to be desired. We arrive as a table of 5 and were given a table by door which had a hard bench on one side. As one of our party has a bad back we asked if we could have a cushion for her to sit on and was told they could no move cushions! We asked to move tables but no more were available. There was a table of 2 who left shortly after which remained empty for rest of evening ,with 2 chairs with cushions which we could not have!!!

We stayed in our RV in the car park of the Swan at Tytherington. The deal is you stay for free but book a meal for the night. The staff were so accommodating and helpful from the moment we arrived. When we went for dinner we initially took the dog and they were so friendly and helpful. Ultimately we took the dog back and left him in the RV just to be safe. The food was absolutely fabulous, really authentic and certainly had that home-cooked quality. We would highly recommend the Swan for both its hospitality and the quality of its food.

Best pub meal we've had in a long, long time. The onion rings are literally the best ever, made fresh with the most amazing batter. Steak and ale pie is succulent with massive chunks of meat! Go now! Highly recommend 👍

The place we had earmarked at Cromhall was closed for food, but we were pointed towards the Swann by one of the locals. Great pub food, nice ambience, excellent service. I had the pie of the day - Asian (spicy) pulled pork, with mashed potatoes, mushy peas and a small jug of good gravy. Sounds very basic indeed, but boy, what a fantastic pie! Served piping hot and on a hot plate. Just perfect.

We'd actually gone to another pub close by for an early evening meal after a day out in Bristol. They weren't serving food. It was the lady behind the bar that recommended The Swan, as that's where she and her husband eat! We did the usual fury friend thing and checked online that they were dog friendly. It was indeed, so we were off. The pub itself is a very well presented country pub with a number of seats inside and out. We chose to eat outside as it was still warm and dry. We took out drinks out with the menus to choose food, before heading back to the bar to order, We went for sharing nachos topped with brisket. It was suberb! we polished it off and wondered if we still had room for main course. Michelle went for fish and chips, which were delicious, and I went for the burger with brisket. I can honestly say, it's the best burger I have ever tasted. So if you're looking for a well presented, honest country pub, with great food and service, look no further.... We were part of a wedding celebration party, the welcome we found when we arrived was warm and inviting and first impressions was this place is well kept and spotlessly clean even the Gents toilet was pristine and fresh.The main meal was a roast dinner mine was Beef and was cooked to perfection with generous amounts and more than enough fresh veg for everyone, I liked the fact that each tables guests had their veg and gravy sent out first then their main meals before going onto the next table so everything was hot as it should be.The staff checked with everyone in our party that everting was okay which I have found with large parties sometimes doesn’t happen and we will be eating here again in the not so distant future.

I have been here a few times with my friend.Haven’t been here for a while through illness. Found the staff very surly and rude not welcoming at all. Turned up on the off chance for a lunch time sitting . We were quite late and had our fingers crossed, they would still be serving. They were. Nothing was a problem. We were seated, the light bites explained to us and drinks fetched very quickly and with a smile. I had welsh rarebit, which was very tasty with a nice salad and some chips. OH had club sandwuiches which he said were very tasty. Plenty of food on the plate. Couldn't fault any of it. Thanks for the meal. I will be back!

We ordered drinks which never came had to order with another waiter,my wife's belly of pork order was not hot enough,we ordered a jug of water twice eventually found it had been left on the bar,disapointed as we have been a customer for over 25 years.

Visited for a family birthday, for Sunday roast. All our roasts were excellent with probably the best cauliflower cheese we've ever had. All of our meals came at the same time, which is often a failing of so many pubs and restaurants, so everything arrived piping hot as it should be. Puddings were also tasty and nice generous portions. Service was efficient and attentive without being intrusive. We all appreciated a lovely meal. Thank you and keep up the excellent work. We will be back.

Booked a week in advance, arrived on time to be told no booking was taken. Only two of us but the best offer we had was to wait and see if there were any no shows. Poor service right out of the Basil Fawlty school of customer service

Saturday night 26th had a table booked Yes we got to the pub early but we were told our table was ready only to be really dirty and food all across the floor. The waitress then moved us to another table a nicer spot then told us we could not have a mean till 8:00 to look look out. ( I understand that want to put less pressure on the kitchen) but this was just poor….,,,The young staff did the best to accommodate the whole restaurant, but you could clearly see they could not cope.Unfortunately the food was just ok. The place has definitely changed over the 18/24 months. I won’t be going back and was just a poor experience. If you enjoy being sat next to the toilets and a dirty table with poor over run staff then this place is perfect for you. Very disappointing.

Food was very good but table 14 was like sitting in a busy corridor. We did not enjoy our meal. Although seated at 12 O’clock it was apparently the only available table and to move us to a table booked for later would have messed up the seating plan. Consequently we only ordered the Sunday lunch, no starter or desert!! We were in and out within 3/4 hour.

Arrived at 6pm for a meal and noticed on the board was discount of 20% off food between 4pm and 6pm. i pointed this to waitress and she said it was 20% off all tonight anyway .i paid my bill and not until i got home did i notice no discount was given .when i paid i took them on trust and only checked properly when i got home

Lovely village pub, food excellent, staff friendly and excellent service, plenty of parking, socially distanced tables. Will definitely be back.

My wife and I returned to The Swan for the first time since Covid hit. The food was as lovely as ever. I had pie (made on site), mash and peas, with a jug of gravy, and my wife had the Red Wine Lasagna. Both were superb and the girl looking after us made us feel very welcome. Name escapes me, but she was telling us she had returned to The Swan in recent months after a break. We’ll be back soon.

Walked in to the bar, not a great vibe! We felt the food was mediocre. No real choice, looked at us in an odd way when we asked for Vegan menu.

Another lovely night at this relaxed and friendly pub. I had the pub classic - lasagne - and my husband, who it turns out has been married to me for 30 years tonight, had a beautifully cooked duo of lamb. Prosecco was on the house in honour of our special night and we sat in romantic happiness by the fireplace. You don’t have to wait for service and you don’t have to worry about cleanliness in this superbly run establishment. We asked for calorie free deserts and were assured that the sticky toffee pudding and winter fruit pavlova were guaranteed to be healthy haha…well done guys and thank you!

Booked a table for the Wednesday night, very accommodating lady on the phone.Arrived for are meal, 4 of us. Greeted by pleasant lady and shown to our table. Welcomed by our waitress for the evening at our table, cheerful and courteous, the service was excellent. Food was very Nice, as was the drinks that we had also ordered. Definitely worth another visit.

A pleasant pub, in a nice location, that did not meet its full potential in either ambiance or food. Service was fine but the whole atmosphere a little cold even with the log burning stove. Foodwise, the pub classic was badly cooked and presented and the other dish under-seasoned and bland. All in all, the experience could be a whole lot better. Coasting along as average is not going to cut-the-mustard in the long term ... we will not return and .... although apparently busy with surplus income OAPs ... they will vote with their Zimmer frames eventually.

You will never get a bad meal here. The staff were absolutely brilliant, quick, polite, on the ball, they are keepers for sure.The meals: I had the pork chop, simply the best one I have had in a very long while, I couldn't help looking at the rest of the parties meals. I could have eaten every one! The pie looked lovely, the trio of sausages, yummy, chicken burger, oh yes. I could go on. Sadly our 2 hours were up and we had to leave, glad to do this and let others sample this fantastic pub.

We came here on a sunday evening while on our weekend break. We had a starters main and dessert from a classic pub menu, which were all presented beautifully and very tasty. Would definitely spread the word about this place in a lovely little village

We were extremely impressed with the whole experience, friendly and attentive staff, great atmosphere, nice surroundings, and the food was absolutely delicious. I had discovered that my salad contained mushrooms which weren't on the menu listing, and the staff immediately offered a new one free of charge. Although I didn't change it, we discovered when we got home and read the bill that we hadn't been charged for it which was a lovely thing to do. Thank you to the team and particularly the lovely waitresses and the chef! Will definitely return.

We went after a long walk nearby and the place is wonderful. Just right place on a hot day outside . The staff excellent and so was the food. Nice outside garden and good for families. The children’s swing needs oil as so noisey ! Otherwise all worth coming here.

Had lunch here with my daughter and granddaughters, Lovely pub in a great setting. Food was great, service and staff were fantastic - well worth a visit. Excellent!!

Thanks to Nikki , Shane and all the staff. Came here as a family of 16 for a Sunday roast. Everything was amazing, the service, the food, the atmosphere, all of it. We have had many meals here and this pub is our favourite by far. Can’t fault it if we could give six stars we would.

Stopped off here on our way back to Cardiff, and so glad we did! Lovely option of vegan and vegetarian meals and the service was brilliant. Would visit again.

This was our first proper date night out locally since rules have relaxed, and we were not disappointed at all! The staff were very attentive and we were sat down straight away and drinks orders taken. The atmosphere felt very relaxed and comfortable although the staff were busy and looking after all the tables. For starters my husband had the pulled pork balls and I had the halloumi with salad and it was so tasty I forgot to take the obligatory photo! We didn’t feel rushed in between courses and then for main hubby had steak, chips, salad, mushroom and peppercorn sauce which he said was lovely and looked amazing and I had gammon without any potato side and I was quite glad that I didn’t as the portions were very generous! My whole meal every element was super tasty! I’m not the biggest mushroom fan but my word I was converted! The mushroom was really tasty and the gammon had a chargrilled kind of flavour and was probably the best I’ve had! Definitely be returning to the swan and I can absolutely recommend to anyone! Thanks for a lovely evening!☺️

For me, The Swan at Tytherington has become everything that a local village pub should be; it’s warm and welcoming, the staff are professional and attentive, the food and drinks are great (as is the menu) and it’s all good value. Sadly, The Swan is everything that the equivalent pub in my own village is not, and I’ve have happily drove past that particular “gastro pub” several times over the last few months to spend my cash in The Swan. I’ve found myself going out for Sunday lunch more and more lately and the Swan’s Sunday lunch (I was in there again yesterday) is excellent quality and simply head and shoulders above all the others I’ve been to recently. This place is a real gem, long may it continue.  

Lovely peaceful stopover in our motorhome. We had a delicious meal in the pub and all of the staff were helpful and friendly. We will certainly visit The Swan again on future trips in the area.

Ages since we have visited this pub which used to be a cherished favourite. Pleased to say that today's experience put it right back at the top in our eyes. Relaxed environment. Covid aware. Excellent food and wonderful service. We shall return .....soon!

Turned up early for once, but our table and chairs had already been sanitized for us. Friendly staff served us drinks whilst we viewed their extensive menu. `We ordered the haddock on crushed potatoes in a béchamel sauce with a poached egg and snow peas. It was wonderful to look at and eat! My wife had the lemon tart which was a little disappointing but my ice cream was delicious! The coffee was from Clifton Coffee and was superb! It would be worth going to the Swan for the coffee alone! Served in heated cups with a rich cremma it was how coffee should be served! Our two waitresses Ellie and Lottie looked after us extremely well and yes, we shall be returning!

Exceptional food, great gf options & childs menu. Despite being busy, great service & lovely staff. Would recommend roast but all meals and desserts were enjoyed.

I thought the selection of starters was excellent but let down by the mains. Chips were awful, not a pleasant taste. Fries served with the burger were much better. Had ham egg and chips, because that is not something I would have at home and just couldn’t decide. Ham good quality, egg yolk hard which was very disappointing and as I said chips awful. My partner agreed about the chips. I just chose wrong on the day. An ok meal but nothing to get excited about. The pub was nice, clean and tables well spaced. Staff pleasant but chose not to do anything about the egg even when I had specifically asked that the yolk be runny on ordering and highlighted again when served.

We arrived here after having booked a table. But the staff seemed confused as to which table we were meant to be sitting on. Then once we had sat down at the table it was sticky and wet (which we were later told was because they had just varnished it, why would they use that table?). After sitting down it took about 30 minutes for us to be given menus (normally get them when you arrive). Then we could finally order our food. We got a sharing nachos for the table and asked for side plates when it arrived but these never turned up. The cheese was congealed on the nachos as they had obviously been left on the side for too long. Then my main was pork loin with mustard mash and veg. The pork was tough, the mash had a skin on it and the veg was cold, the only nice bit was the cheesy leek sauce. Someone else on our table had the red dragon pie, which is topped with mash, this was also hard and had a skin. Two of us felt a bit sick the day after the meal. To top it off the waiting staff kept blaming the problems on the fact it was busy, but that's not our problem. I certainly won't be eating here again any time soon.

This was our first visit to the swan for a long time. The food was great and there was plenty of choice. The atmosphere was lovely and the service was superb. We will definitely be going back again soon.

Had family staying so chose The Swan ... they deliverer excellent service and fabulous food. Really nice atmosphere and very COVID safe.

When lockdown 2 was announced its fair to say that we were a bit glum in my house. But, then we remembered that the Swan did the most amazing beef noodles last time in lockdown, after a quick check we confirmed they were happening again-spirits immediately lifted! The best bit was that there was a choice of flake cheesecake too. So delicious and beautifully cooked. Can’t wait for more. Recommended to anyone.
