Came for Sunday lunch. Earlier than table booked. No problem. All staff so friendly and helpful. So nice to have plenty of space between tables so able to chat. The Sunday roast, one beef one pork couldn't have been better. Delicious. Food delivered in good time. Coffees to follow. When we were leaving we were asked if all was well and encouraged to return which we most certainly will.

Lovely old stone pub situated in a small village next to church, idyllic setting. Park across lane and register car reg number in pub. Disappointed that the bedroom and bathroom were not very clean, especially the bathroom, toilet was pumped which was very noisy, when we flushed the drain smell was overwhelming and not what you expect for £180 per night. I dined at the Bowl Inn at Almondsbury. What more can I say, other than the table service was top class (friendly and not pretentious) and the food was divine. Their menu includes different food on it from the standard sort of pub menu, but it does also have things like fish and chips. My hubby had that and he enjoyed it. I had the tandoori chicken thighs with a nice salsa in a yoghurt dressing and it was lovely. We both had lamb belly bites in breadcrumbs with a minted pea puree as a starter. Very nice too and it was different from the norm. I had a chocolate delice and asked for a scoop of salted caramel ice cream with it - it was great and the ice cream was probably the best I’ve ever tasted, and I’m fussy! The Shiraz was nice (so my hubby says) and I liked my lime and lemonade in a different cut glass rather than the usual pint glass. That’s what they do there and the glasses are always pristine every time I’ve been. The pub is in a nice quiet village location but also very convenient for the M5. This is one of my go-to places if I want a good meal.

Wonderful breakfast of scrambled eggs and smoked salmon was the perfect amount and very reasonable priced for a brunch. Second time my wife and I have stayed, both times in Signature Plus rooms (King James and Blue). Booked a table for Sunday lunch and on both occasions the rooms and the food were excellent. The pub is very clean and cosy, as are the rooms. The staff were friendly and attentive and the food was delicious. The breakfast (full English) was also excellent. With breakfast served up to 10.00 and a 11.00 check out there was no rush to eat or leave. The setting by the church (no bells!) and churchyard is both quiet and very picturesque and there is also a roof top patio area overlooking the grounds of the church. Intend staying again and cannot recommend it too highly. Reasonable size P&D car park right opposite (free for patrons-need to put car reg into a tablet by the bar to avoid a ticket).

Well first of all no friendly welcome when you go to the bar. We ordered 2 steaks plus a burger and have to say the steaks were tough and very chewy, the pepper sauce was more like gravy no pepper taste, the burger should of come with onion rings but didn’t plus the cheese seemed to be a cheap plastic type slice not good. Very disappointed i live locally but will find it hard to return for food due to the quality served.

Roast belly pork was tough and tasteless, crackling non existant, roast potatoes soft and didn't taste good. They forgot the apple sauce. Roast chicken passable. All the veg was rather tasteless and mashed swede unpleasant. For £200 for 5, with drinks, over priced for the quality delivered. Have visited in the past and have had mixed experiences. Decided to try again. Booked a table and checked that the everything on the menu would be available. Was informed one light bite was not available. Arrived and shown to table all very polite. Ordered a bottle of wine that was opened and served, very nice. However when we came to order we were told both main courses we had chosen were unavailable and would we like to choose something else. As we had checked before arriving we were annoyed as they should have informed us when we were taken to the table. The main course menu isn't large especially if you don't want a burger. Unfortunately as there was nothing else suitable we had to leave disappointed again. We know things run out but it was very quiet so please let your customers know before they are seated and order drinks if things are not available.

We had a 1 night stay on Fathers Day en route south. Great location for a stop over minutes from motorway, not that you would know as the inn is in a quiet spot by the church. The gentleman checking in us was busy busy at the bar but managed to quickly see us to our room. The room was a good size, comfortable, clean and we slept well (randomly the toilet seat was not attached to the toilet so a bit awkward). Dinner was a set menu, and was ok. I had the chicken which was a small portion (very) and sadly dry, but we ate early evening so maybe that impacted as cooked earlier in the afternoon? Rest of the meals were fine and lovely big home made yorkshire puddings. We had the inclusive breakfast which had lots of choice plus tea/coffee and fresh juice. We opted for full english which was great and served with a smile. We would stay again, if you join the brewery membership scheme you receive 20% off so £87 B&B was good value. The inn also has food and drink offers too which were good value if there through the week. For us en route from the North a handy and comfortable place to stop.

We've started to become a fan of Butcombe pub/rooms as this is the second venue we have visited & stayed in, the last one was 3 weeks ago at the Crab & Boar (worth a visit as well) You can never measure each one against each other as it is not like comparing 'Apples to Apples' every venue is different, in staff, decor, building, location, even some of the food so each time you visit you will experience a different outcome. We had a 4 night stay booked in a Signature Plus room 14. The room is actually in the house next door which is connected to the main building but to be honest you would not know this from the inside (I didn't it took me 4 days to realise!!). The room is designed to give the impression that it is part of the old pub, king size bed comfortable, a small wardrobes with hangers, large TV, the bathroom is small and you might bang your head on the towel rail when you sit on the loo!! cubicle shower just big enough for a large chap like me. The room over looks the carpark and road, but the road is very quite during the day & night. Checked in at 3pm room was not ready so had a drink in the bar 20 minutes later good to go. Ate in at the pub on the first night food was enjoyable, drinks they have a good choice. Breakfast there is a good choice, you need to ask for pastries & orange juice as these are not put out, coffees teas etc all available. Ate out on the second night, third night we decided to eat at the pub had the Bar BQ which I saw on someone else's plate and look good and large the wife had the Fish & Chips. Fish and chips were good and the bar B Q I was a bit underwhelmed, 2 sausages, 2 ribs yes 2 with a bit of meat in between them!! and a piece of brisket , with slaw, corn on the cob and chips what was there tasted good but £25 not worth the money, the couple who previously had the same saw mine and said they hade been given more meat! I did mention this to the staff and was told that this was what was on the other plates, I think not, If I had gone somewhere and had a mixed grill for say £20 I certainly would have got better value for money. On the 4th evening again we ate out. It is a great location if you want to get out during the day Cardiff 50 mins, Cheddar 50 mins, Swindon 45 mins, Gloucester 50 mins (all times are approx. & you might be subject to delay :) ). Generally the staff were friendly but we have experienced chattier staff. One other beef is the dreaded service charge, which we had on the first night (not the third night!!) I know that it seems to be coming the norm in the restaurant industry now but if you are staying at the pub why should they charge you this surely as a resident it should be waived. We never noticed it until we paid our bill in full at the end of our stay so too late to query it but perhaps we never saw the small print!! Enjoyed the stay now on to another Butcombe in a few weeks but do give this a try.

Called into The Bowl for a lunch time meal, so can't comment on the Rooms hence 4 stars. Located next to the church this is the first visit for a long time, a very long time but what a pleasant surprise. A sunny day and it was busy, but not overly, with customers inside and outside on the benches. There is a car park opposite, customers need to register their registration details inside the pub to avoid a charge. Lots of on street parking is available though. A warm welcome at the bar and taken to the pre booked table inside, we were offered the option to be outside in the sun. We were given time to peruse the food & drinks menu's and not rushed. Ample non or low alcohol drinks available if required, and also several vegetarian food options. I ordered the pork rib eye and my daughter a the Za’atar crusted halloumi with fries as an extra. Complaints, absolutely none. They were both well presented and hot, I could have eaten the pork again. Although we enjoyed the mains we both fancied a dessert, but weren't sure of what, so we decided on the 'Nearly Full' options of mini doughnuts and After Eight ice cream. What a great idea, small enough to fill and end a nice lunch. Can I recommend The Bowl? Absolutely, wonderful helpful staff, great food and a lovely quiet location, I'm sure I'll have a return trip in the not to distant future.

We visited The Bowl Inn, Almondsbury for a family birthday celebration. I can honestly say it's the worst dining experience we've ever had :- - Staff unwelcoming - no smiles, we felt 'unwanted guests'. - Many menu items unavailable - despite being 6.45pm on a Saturday. We were only informed of this once our menu choices had been given to the kitchen. - One cocktail was ordered but it never arrived, eventually we cancelled it. - We had to wait over 1 hour for our food, not easy with a toddler. - When food arrived, some were only luke warm. It was then taken away to be re-heated but that meant we couldn't all eat together. - The stone sea bass meal was very small, and without the crab. - The pork ribeye was very tough.t On the plus side the fish and chips and the chocolate mousse cake were very good. Otherwise, it was very poor. No happy Birthday experience for us. I would've preferred to stay at home, done all the cooking and washing up myself and had a good time.

We enjoyed our stay in this lovely old pub. The room we stayed in (no 15) was comfortable and quiet and faced the rear overlooking a small courtyard which I imagine is quite noisy when the weather is good but it was cold during our stay. I deducted a star because the carpet in the room looked in need of a clean and there was no plug for the sink. The staff were friendly and helpful. The only disappointment was finding a reduced menu available on Monday evening due to staffing problems. What we had was still nice but not quite what we wanted, still these things can't be helped sometimes. We would definitely consider staying here again as it is so close to Bristol and the motorways for exploring the area.

Negatives- * Terrible roast dinner, shocking considering the price you pay for it. Worst roast dinner I've ever had. Came home very disappointed and hungry! Not one bit of the roast was nice. I had the roast beef, on the menu it said it was served 'medium rare'. Nope, was a overcooked thin slice of beef. * Poor service * Was sat near the door which was not pleasant Positives - *A nice building and bustling pub, they are obviously popular * The Lotus Biscoff donuts were nice

Fabulous to see this village pub brought back to life with a fresh new menu and a friendly team. The pork crackling with apple sauce was a very welcome addition. We’ll be back soon!

Fabulous stay at The Bowl Inn, Almondsbury. We stayed for 3 nights to watch England Women's 6 Nation's match against Wales at Bristol Ashton Park Stadium. Ideal location for Bristol, Wales, and surrounding areas. Accommodation excellent, bedroom good size, very well presented. Fabulous choices for breakfast. Would definitely recommend.

Great location in Lower Almondsbury. Friendly staff and good food but sometimes a long wait for it to arrive!

I don’t usually leave reviews, I read them. And reading them, I was shocked at the lack of accuracy. The Bowl has been an occasional stop for me and my partner since 2021, and it’s come on leaps and bounds. Our latest visit was epic. Food, timely, filling and up there with any gastropub in SW England! The room, packed a punch for the size and was immaculate. Breakfast… I’ve barely eaten since. And the team, manager and smiley chef made it all complete. I guess you could say we were Bowled over. See you soon, and thank you so much. H&R x

Always a warm welcome and nice atmosphere here at The Bowl. Service can be a bit slow, but then it is good to see the place busy.

One of the best restaurants I've been to in a long time, great ale and cider on tap and the rooms are of a high quality too. Plenty of parking - they have installed 4 electric super chargers but are not operational yet (as of early March 2024). Prices were very reasonable in the restaurant. I would recommend signing up to their loyalty scheme as you get many offers. Will definitely look into other Butcombe brewery inns based on our 5* experience here.

Lovely pub with good service, but poor vegetarian food. The squash carpaccio was very bland. The Jerusalem artichoke soup just tasted like cream, and the saag aloo also had a strange creamy sauce with very little spices detectable. The pappardelle was actually rigatoni, although it did come with a generous amount of tasty mushrooms. The best thing we had were the little Biscoff doughnuts, which were sensational. Given it three stars as our meat-eating companions thoroughly enjoyed their meal. Wouldn’t go again for the vegetarian food.

We ate here on Mothering Sunday and sad to say that from start to finish it was a shocker. When booking over a week ago I wasn’t advised we’d have a table in the bar. The courtesy of being told would have been appreciated. We were on small table for 4 right next to the bar pretty much touching those on bar stools. We weren’t greeted and shown to our table nor were there menus on the table either. I had to go to the bar 3 times to get a drink as it took so long for anyone to come to see us. I also had to go and find someone to take our order! When we did finally order what some of the party wanted had run out! By the time we got our food we’d been in the pub an hour and a quarter, I had to chase up the food and had it not arrived at 7pm we were simply going to leave. Worse to come as they got my sons order wrong so he didn’t get his food for a further 15-20 minutes by which time our 545 reservation had turned in to him getting his meal at gone 715. The table next to us who arrived after us had their starters before we got our food even though we’d order before them. The lady waiting on us was very unapproachable when you could find her which wasn’t often. In fact Rude is more accurate. An apology seemed very forced and far from sincere and other dinners had confronted her about this too. The food was very average. At over £22 for a roast I was hoping for something amazing. But mediocre was what we got. I had the beef which was nice but what little else there was on the plate was Poor. Hardly any Veg. Minimal gravy. Just barely roasted potato’s, a hardish parsnip again barely roasted and a smattering of cabbage with a drizzle of gravy. I ordered a side of cauliflower cheese which was a fiver and also under cooked. We actually ordered deserts whilst still on the main course due to the length of time it took to get our food. Needless to say it didn’t result in a prompt service. Order was wrong again. You couldn’t write it. When deserts did come they were very small. All in all this was an utter rip off. Cramming in as many people as possible, not being able to cater for them and not having staff that have the right character to do the job. Have been to this pub many times over the years and will NOT be going back again. Would strongly advise NOT eating here.

5 of us came here for lunch yesterday. We all had different main courses and none were a disappointment. The service was excellent. Plus, as it was my birthday and I’m a loyalty card member, we had a selection of drinks for 4 of the party. And as my birthday fell on a Wednesday we had 25% of the meal. An excellent treat.

One of the best pubs I have been to! The staff were friendly, attentive and all round just great! Food and drink was perfect i especially liked the Butcombe Rare Breed! There was a cosy atmosphere and all round just a brilliant pub. Even for a coffee in the morning it would be great! Will be returning again!

Sadly we we were disappointed after this lunch visit. We felt the food wasn’t up to previous standards and at higher prices (we understand price rises are unavoidable at the moment). Very disappointing vegetarian risotto (really tasteless and didn’t taste of anything) and pie was mediocre. Felt better after puds which were ok.

We stayed at The Bowl recently using the Sunday Sleepover deal and can honestly say that we thoroughly enjoyed our stay there, as did our friends. This is such a good deal and we look forward to going there again soon. This is a really lovely old Inn in the small village of Almondsbury, near Bristol. Highly recommend.

Came here before Christmas for lunch and were very impressed so thought we’d try an evening meal. We were not disappointed. The menu, though maybe a bit pricey, was well above what you would expect from a village pub. The place was very busy but everything worked - the staff were attentive and friendly, the food came promptly and was well-cooked and delicious. We will definitely be coming again.

We’ve met friends here for years, but today we felt things weren’t as good as they were previously. We expected an increase in prices, but we’re left disappointed by the quality of the food. The beetroot risotto was very disappointing - completely lacking in any kind of flavour - and a small portion (although we wouldn’t have wanted more due to the blandness). Can’t have cost more than £1 to produce - a big mark up at nearly £15. The pie was unremarkable for £17.50. The puddings were good. Sadly we’ll be looking elsewhere to meet up next time.

What a lovely village pub. Even though it’s our local pub, one of the things we do love is the fact it is so dog friendly. The staff always go out of their way to greet and make fuss of our pups. Loads of our friends bring their dogs here for drinks and can’t wait for the summer when we will all brings more dogs. Barking and all.

Stopped for a quick lunch and felt welcomed. First choices were unavailable, so chose the gammon. This was a huge portion, bigger than I've ever seen! Sadly the fried eggs were hard, but still very go
