I stayed one night. Staff were friendly and efficient . Room was comfortable and well equipped. Pub was was very busy and lively but no issue. Major issue. Room I was given was without en suite bathroom. The volunteering of the reason and comment that whilst not made obvious it is in the l small print was all too smooth and practised and suggests many complaints. I made do but far from ideal. A shame. Otherwise good value for money and friendly and helpful team.

Have to say, absolutely awful service. Long wait on meals ordered. When finally arrived, food was very overcooked or had been sitting under hotplates for absolutely ages. Even witnessed other customers ordering food and waited so long they demanded money back and left. Plus another lady even commented on my food and said .... that looks horrible! She wasn't wrong.

Unfortunately we were forgotten about after we ordered our food. We waited 50 minutes for our food and the waitress walked passed us and went ‘oh sorry have you not got your food yet’ after 35 mins. Then, we still hadn’t received anything 10 mins later. Another prompt was given to the kitchen. When we received our food there was go side (naan). We had to ask for this. This took 10 minutes to come out and by the time it came we had finished our curry. Really disappointed as just moved to the area and wanted to find a local pub. Also the website had advertised Tuesday main and desert for £11.00. This was not the case on arrival.

We came upon the Swan by chance and so very glad that we did. The service was second to none and so was the food. I cannot recommend The Swan highly enough without swearing :-)) Just go try it out for yourselves and see. An ideal location in a very nice safe area. If you live in Bristol it isnt far away. ***** five stars from me. Also Thornbury is a very walkable little town, plenty of charity shops too...... just be aware.....park sensibly in the car parks 2 hours free, they do have travelling parking wardens unnecessarily lurking in the shadows waiting to pounce.

I had a wake here recently with lots of friends and family, from far and wide, meeting up to pay thier respects. The staff had gone over and above to make this a smooth and memorable experience. The buffet food was absolutly fantastic. The pub was tranformed for a few to hours to make this a special occasion, putting up many photos and a black board and table of memories and flowers, a lot of organisation had gone into the event by staff. The staff were so kind and accomodating and the venue was very fitting.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

Firstly it’s important to say I’m disappointed that I’ve had to write this review, as I’ve had numerous excellent visits here and still rate them as my favourite tasting burger around! Why then the 2 star review and a review that replaces my previous 5 star review? Visited with friends expecting the food to be up to its usual high standards. After a few rounds of drinks and nearly £100 spent we ordered our meals. My friend and his g/f ordered their food first (identical to what we ordered). Ours arrived a good ten minutes before theirs leaving us hanging about waiting so we could all eat together. Having poured out my chips I noted I had half of everyone else (6 and one black one!). Onion rings on both of ours were also cremated. Rather than make a fuss in front of friends I chose to politely speak to a young gentleman at the bar. I politely expressed my disappointment at such a meagre portion for £10.50 and the fact I’d received half of all of my fellow diners (and much less than previous visits). He apologised, saying he would bring out some more. 5 minutes later he came out to say that was a standard portion and I wouldn’t be getting anymore. That’s great if my fellow guests hadn’t ordered the same dish and received double what I had, with all their chip pots full! Despite being embarrassed I remained polite but stated I wasn’t impressed and not at all happy about it all and couldn’t promise I wouldn’t be writing a review. A young woman came out from the kitchen slagging me off to her colleagues saying “I don’t care, he can do what he wants!”. In the interests of courtesy to my friends I wasn’t going to bite! What is puzzling is the fact that the burger comes swamped with cheese (always has done). Cost of cheese clearly outweighs the cost of a handful of chips! Rather than give me a few extra chips to match my guests portions or to simply shut me up the rude lady chose to abuse me to her colleagues instead! The complete lack of customer service and disregard for how much we had spent with you as a business was appalling and cost you the extra £150 we spent on other food and drink elsewhere! Was it really worth standing your ground over what must be pennies? I attach pics of two of our previous visits where the normal portion of chips is clearly shown, compared to the insult that was served to me on the day! As noted on most negative reviews I appreciate this might generate a sarcastic response. Most of these responses say “had we been made aware at the time, we would have made efforts to resolve” I can categorically say zero effort was made to try and resolve the complaint. No one even had the courtesy to come and speak with me other than the male staff member who was apologetic throughout, seemingly embarrassed having agreed how few chips had been served. I certainly left resenting spending so much with you as well as supporting your business many times before. I fully appreciate at times things go wrong and a certain situation totally unrelated to me or my complaint may have influenced how I was treated at that point in time. All I can say is that having been polite throughout I neither deserved it or appreciated it - All for the sake of a few chips!

The only fault we could pick with the place is the shared bathroom for the accommodation but don’t let this out you off! The showers are as good as any premier inn/ travelodge. I found the beds extremely comfy! The food is spot on and very good value for money especially in this day ‘n’ age. Plenty of choice on which ever beverage tickles your fancy. Relaxed atmosphere within the bar area. Friendly staff. Friendly German Shepard. 🐶😊 Well recommended by ourselves. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The booking via the Swan’s own website was easy and cheaper than the Booking.com site. The staff and Manageress were wonderfully friendly and welcoming. Even the pub’s Alsatian was very welcoming and very calm, my own dog, roughly the same age, was happy to be introduced to him. Having returned after the kitchen had closed, the Manageress was happy to prepare us a delicious chilli con carne, and even provided a bowl of chicken and rice for our dog. That’s going the extra mile. Whilst the ground floor has been beautifully refurbished, there is still refurbishment continuing. The letting rooms on the upper floors are in need of attention, which we understood. I would be very happy to go back. It is a very warm and welcoming place.

It's a few months since we've been to The Swan for lunch which we always enjoyed, and so decided to give it a return visit. We were slightly disappointed though, as the cod, although beautifully cooked, was quite small, more batter than fish (probably the countrywide cost-cutting). However the chips were perfect, crisp outside, fluffy inside. It was quite busy when we visited and the staff seemed to be slightly impatient, not in their usual relaxed mode. Anyway, we did enjoy our meal. But when I paid a visit to the ladies' loo, oh dear, I couldn't help but notice it really needs a deep clean, thorough redecoration etc.

Immediately on entering one gets the atmosphere of a successful town centre pub - no silly pretensions. However, I found the main menu card unreadable with colour on colour print and not exactly bright lights. There is an alternative lunch menu in black and white, so that was simple and I had very good fish and chips at a very reasonable price, though I can't really recommend the apple pie. Apparently they think it's all right to microwave it which ruins the pastry. This is a great pity as I am sure it would be very good put in a hot oven for a few minutes.

No volveré prisa!

PERSONAL PARECE AMABLE.

Stopped here for a quick bite to eat, we ordered two roast dinners, one pork and one beef along with two lime and soda's. Bill came to almost £23 and as I sat down i thought that was dear. The two roasts were £7.95 each which meant that i'd been charged about £7 for the drinks! I queried it and not only had we been charged for large glasses but we'd been given flat lemonade not soda.......fair enough this was rectified once realised. The food came out, plated and te beef looked good, however on further inspection what my wife thought was a mound of meat turned out to be a field mushroom so the actual amount of meat (whilst tender) was very poor, my pork was ok but again not much meat. Veg again was ok but I have had much much better. We wouldn't be in a rush to return I'm afraid.

We had a not so good experience food wise - A party of 7 - (6 adults 1 child) - Starters - One had prawn cocktail , the prawns arrived warm! One had soup it arrived with a burger roll not the granary bread as stated - we ordered 2 sharing platers one was forgotten and did not arrive and had to be cooked . The platters were completely different with one containing two types of fish as one of our party has a fish allergy this was highly unacceptable - we had to ask for the dips- Mains arrived and a raw burger had to be sent back and re cooked - the food with no problems was nice but overall a not too good experience at all

This pub is such a cracker of a pub. Not only does it look fabulous, the food is delicious and the staff are always welcoming. This place also does a huge amount for the community and for charities. Brilliant.

More than a dozen of my walking group popped in for lunch today and The Swan coped admirably. I chose Lasagne (with garlic bread and Chips) for £7.95, it was very nice and there was plenty of of it, other members of the group were pleased with their meals too, there was no undue delay. We had eaten here previously but today's experience seemed even better. We will certainly use The Swan again.

A family trip to a pub local to the new house we are hoping to move in to. Thought we would try the local pub for lunch. The pub is a traditional pub (horse brasses and brass ornaments). Good range of light bites and lunch time meals. 2 bacon and brie Pannini ordered. (£4.95 each) and a children's lasagne, chips and beans with free ice cream (£4.95)Food arrived. Looked good, but peas with the order, not beans. Asked if we would like sauces etc. But they never arrived. We then had to go on a hunt for cutlery. 1 serving staff on a Saturday is probably to few. So far this was heading for a 3/4 star review. However, after tipping the child lasagna out on to his plate I stole a mouthful, to find myself chewing on pieces of glass. Two small chunks of glass that could have come from a Pyrex dish or something similar. Called over the waiter and let him know. They offered to change the lasagne for a new one. Fearing a contaminated batch - we opted for sausages instead (which were great by the way)I enquired at the bar if a person of authority was in the building. Apparently "Sandra" was in the kitchen and too busy. When I said it was about the glass we found in the food, and I wanted to ensure she was aware of the issue, the bar person went to speak with her. A message, rather than person, came back that she was aware of the issue and was sending the glass off to the makers of the lasagne. A verbal apology offered. No discount or money off offered (but then none was asked for).

Such a shame. Really want a cosy tasty lunchtime meal but the food was awful. My faggots were so dense you could sink a ship with one and the mash potato served with them was solid gloop. The children had chicken tikka Paninis which were over rich and sweet. I really think the chef has no taste or skill. The menu is too large leading to reheated unfresh food. Simplify your menu guys and aim for quality. Dissapointed even for the price.

We tend to visit Thornbury every Saturday and on this occasion decided to go to the Swan which looked a lot more welcoming than the White Lion opposite. In total there were four adults and two children (aged 7 and 9)The pub was nice inside and had a friendly feel and the large alsatian walking down was very friendly and docile. We did have an issue with the service though which was dealt with very poorly by the staff. One of the meals ordered at the bar was a small fish and chips with peas. After a few minutes a young waitress came over and asked if we wanted peas or beans with the fish and chips, and then before she'd even left the room came back to ask the same question again. PEAS!! Anyway, that wasn't really a problem, just amusing. The first meal that the waitress brought out was fish-fingers, chips and peas, which we hadn't ordered. After walking round with the plate for quite a while she kept trying to give it to us, and then after checking at the bar told us that we had DEFINITELY ordered fish fingers and therefore we should have it - she justified herself by saying that we had ordered this because the price is different to fish and chips. What?? We hadn;t even paid by this point . That was very rude - why would we have ordered a meal that we didn't want? The other meals came out - the burgers were excellent, but the carrot and coriander soup would be better described as "carrot puree" and didn't have any taste of coriander. Ten minutes after we had all finished, we were about to give up on the fish and chips but it finally came and was ok.The final insult was that when we came to pay the bill, they'd included the fish and chips but also added TWO extra fish-fingers and chips to the bill which felt like they were being petty and trying to rip us off.The burgers were good, the rest was a terrible experience and we won't be returning.

Their menu online is much different than what we got. Little effort to detail. This should not be confused with a gastropub. It is ok if nothing else is available. And besides they said they never got anything from opentable for reservation. So don't bother.

Although we had booked a set time we ended up sharing a table with two other diners. The dining room was small and was occupied by some unruly children. The food a carvery was best average and not value for money. We are not the sort to pile as much food as possible on a plate as demonstrated by other diners. Perhaps a carvery is not for us?
