The lady who seated us was fantastic, very friendly and helpful, however, after that service was terrible. We waited about 10 mins sat at the table before being asked what drinks we wanted, then it took over half an hour to get the drinks given to us. I went to the bar myself after that and it was absolutely freezing in there. Long wait again to order food and for it to arrive. The server who brought the food out was friendly and helpful and the food was nice. However, once we'd finally got as far as puddings, they came out cold or not cooked properly. The custard I had with my tart was cold and the three apple pies were soggy and uncooked looking. Didn't spoil our birthday meal out but could have been much much better.

Visited this pub for my mum's birthday and the whole event was very disappointing. Only one person greeting, taking orders and serving food, he also ran the bar and sorted the bill at the end. This meant everything was very slow and the food was not hot by the time it arrived. It took over 30 minutes just to get a drink. In fairness the gentleman tried his best and remained composed whilst operating under extreme stress.

We were served brilliantly by Liz (and Lucas!) who attended us wonderfully. The steaks we had were cooked perfectly, we loved the choice available for food and drink, and the sticky toffee pudding to finish was delicious! Liz especially was personable, hilarious and helped us with a telegraph pub quiz we were doing between courses, getting us a correct answer that meant we got 18/20. Love you liz, we’ll be back!

Had Christmas day lunch but unfortunately we had a terrible experience. Booked for this year as last year's Christmas day lunch was excellent. On entering the car park noticed a sign advertising for staff a bad omen on what was to follow. Although we arrived a bit early table Booked for 1.00pm for 10 people we were told to wait in the bar despite our table being ready.we noticed that every available space was taken up with tables. When the rest of our party arrived they were shown to the table luckily we spotted them. Waited quite a while for our starters and although our daughter visit the pub twice about the changes to mine and one of our granddaughter's starters I was given the wrong soup and our granddaughter received nothing I immediately told the waitress that this was wrong and she said that she would check with the kitchen my daughter went to talk to someone at the front desk about this by the time we got our starters everyone else had finished theirs. My soup was just luke warm i couldn't be bothered to complain although everyone's starters dishes were removed from the table for some reason my dishes were left and for some reason were not removed until we had finished the main course for which we waited for at least one hour and the plates and food were just warm. The desserts were no better. We realised that although the staff were working as hard as possible they were completely overwhelmed it definitely wasn't the experience we were expecting or should have received a a total waste of money will not be booking for next year . For such a small group of 30, Christmas food was served Luke warm, and prawns on a muffin with a fish sauce for starter didn't go down well, though I should have known better when selecting it. Portions were poor with one half of carrot, and parsnip. The 4 small spouts shivered on plate next to a thinly sliced turkey. It was only the warm gravy that improved the taste. Would not recommend this facility for a function. Very disappointed.

Come here 4 - 5 times a year when working in the area and have been satisfied enough in the past but. I can only think there has been a change of some sort, not the usual standard, the food served up did not reflect the menu description, it wasn’t far off but the Pork, apple & cider terrine with toasted sourdough and whipped herb butter came with warm bread and a standard slab of butter and the £24 lamb shank shepherds pie had more mash than anything else and the “cheddar crust” was a sea of melted cheese, the shank was nice though. For a meal at £30+ I’d expect more.

We were a group of 3 who visited to have a Sunday roast and was our first time going to the Sip Inn. Our food and drink order was taken fairly quickly. We received our drinks but after 25 minutes had still not received our food. We were then told that due to a technical fault our food order had not gone through. When our food did arrive it was cold and so we had to send it back. The second time we received our food it was hot and was tasty, however the parsnips were very hard. We also had to chase them for our side orders. Not a great first experience

One of my regular bus rides out brought me here on Wednesday 21st Aug. I seem to have a knack of visiting pubs for meals just before it gets busy - two groups arrived just after I had ordered! Gammon steak came with a good-sized portion of chips and garden peas and a nicely fried egg. Service was quite prompt, and importantly, everything was piping hot. Only drawback was not associated with the pub and was an accident in the hill between Alveston and Thornbury, leading to the road closure and buses being up to 45 minutes late! Hey, but I got home having enjoyed the food and a few pints of GK IPA!

We were caught in a horrendous traffic jam with our dog, so we decided to get some food & let it die down rather than keep her in the car for a few hours. On walking in we were advised that due to being short staffed in the kitchen they weren't taking walk ins but they'd ask the Chef as was just the 3 of us. The Chef kindly agreed to get us some dinner, and even agreed to cook our dog some chicken & sausages as we're were there for a few hours after a day at work so she was getting hungry, and didn't even mind when she wanted her own quiet moment ( since they had room, we wouldn't let her do it if the tables were needed of course). They went out of their way to make us & her feel welcome despite their staffing issues and we can't say how much we appreciated that. Thank you all!

We were staying in the premier inn next door staying in the area for a family occasion. We booked a table well in advance for 11 people and offered the saver menu alongside the main menu. Everyone pre ordered there meals and emailed to pub weeks before. We were seated at 7 pm and around 45 mins later started receiving our meals after much confusion to what meals we were having even though it was all emailed to them. My steak was lovely and most of our meals were great. My father in law was very disappointed with his sea bass. Said that the veg etc that went with it was all dry and like it had been sat on the kitchen side for awhile and reheated . We went back to the pub on our second night. Asked for the saver menu that does state on there website runs from May Mon-Thurs each week to be told that it wasn’t available so was given the full price menu only. I ordered the Duo of chicken after being told my first choice of meal wasn’t available because they’d run out. It arrived. The chicken breast was so dry I couldn’t eat it. The chicken strips and rice were cold very disappointing. I’m afraid I couldn’t eat it. I did complain and rightfully so I wasn’t charged for it. We have family who live in the area and visit regularly. We certainly wouldn’t return to this pub.

Tasty food in a pleasant if slightly dilapidated restaurant. This chain advertise that they participate in the blue light scheme and I always prefer to support businesses who value emergency service workers. When it came to paying though I was told that they weren't offering the discount today and had no explanation. The place was nearly empty, you would have thought they would be grateful for the trade.

Well what can I say... this place has seriously gone downhill and it is such a shame! I have been before previously a few times for food and a wedding and it is usually better. We had the triple roast dinner on Sunday evening and it was disgusting! For almost £17 you would expect a better quality meal. Everything tasted frozen and I could cook better at home. Unfortunately, we had to leave most of the food because it was just inedible, the only good thing was the big Yorkshire puddings. Staff were nice people but had no proper training and we sat waiting to pay the bill for 30 minutes despite numerous members of staff walking past ignoring us. Another table also made a complaint and once they had paid and left we heard the staff making fun of them and laughing. In the end we had to go up and pay at the door. Toilets were also really dirty. I'm not sure if it is under new management but it seems like a different place. Overpriced and gross food with a weird taste. AVOID THIS PLACE!!

The drinks took another 15 minutes to come. The food was good although one of our party ended up with the wrong meal. The rib of beef was very good , hence why an increased score on here. We had waited so long that we accepted the wrong meal just to save time and hassle. Getting the bill was also problematic and took an age. Weird especially as we were sat in the middle of the restaurant. Clearly the kitchen knows what it is doing but the front of house staff do not. A shame used to be excellent.. won’t be going back as plenty of other choices that do much better close by.

I did ask for some sauces, when our meals arrived and they never came back with any. Why don't these places, not just here but everywhere, not just have bottles of ketchup on the tables, is it too much to ask?

We had a meal here as a large party. Service was good, food was delicious. I can't speak to the atmosphere of the place in general as we had a hired room there.

Called in for lunch. No one at the main station so we wandered through to the bar. We have previously eaten in the bar area so did not think it would be a problem. Sat at a table, no menus on the table. Asked at the bar, barman a little short in telling my wife she should have got one on the way in? How were we to know that? However another diner had 2 menus which he offered and we gratefully accepted. We ordered the halloumi ciabatta, fish goujon ciabatta. Fries and salad. The food was ok the goujons were more batter than fish. Halloumi similar. I would have commented at the time however no one came to ask if everything was ok. The food was ok, the warm welcome promised on the sign outside was lacking I assume it must have been an off day as prior it has been fine.

Went here a few years ago, the staff didn't seem very happy, and the welcome was cold unfortunately. Cake was dry.
