Don’t drink the hawkstone lager, tastes like an IPA pretty sure they get their lines mixed up. Refused to give me a different beer when I went back to the bar after 3 swigs lol

I was in Chipping Sodbury overnight and was recommended The Horseshoe. What a place. Heaven for a real ale drinker with SEVEN handpumps. The guy who was behind the bar also looked after the cellar and from the first sip of the first pint it was obvious he knew exactly how to look after real ale. It was relatively quiet when I was there, late afternoon, but I can imagine that it would be very busy at prime times. It isn't difficult to see why they have been awarded recognition from organisations such as CAMRA. A proper drinkers' pub. Absolutely fantastic.

Been coming to The Horseshoe one or two times a month for the last few months. Usually welcoming staff and a nice atmosphere. This evening, however, came in and bought a few drinks, wasn’t looking to go too heavy being a Monday evening and all. The main bar area got a bit loud so we moved round to the seating area with the board games to continue chatting and mind our own business. After a while a lady came over and said “Are you going to buy any more drinks or…” we stared at her a little perplexed, and she added “This isn’t a social house it’s a business, so…” I get we didn’t buy the amount we normally do but very interesting move to attack the paying customers. We won’t be back to this “pub” sadly. Even though it might be small business we bring I am sure one of the other pubs would appreciate it more and recommend you take your business elsewhere too.

Can’t thank Matt and the gang for arranging a super 70th birthday celebration for my husband. Very low key just as he wanted, we invited 25 friends into the marquee at the back of the pub, patio heaters at the ready, but not needed. Les, Karrie and Kate worked so hard to supply everything that we had asked for and we were well supplied with fresh sandwiches, chips & drinks as ordered. There was no pressure on us to leave and we made the most of the afternoon sunshine. Thank you all.

Sadly this once proper pub has now become a cross between a sports bar and tribute band venue. There is now a screen in every part of the pub which seem to be turned on all of the time with the sound down, which you can't avoid having to look at unless you go outside. The beer selection is still good so I am looking forward to being able to visit again without having to look at a screen.

Well what can I say !! Where shall I start? We were shown to our table but it wasn't the one we had booked. There was a lot of fuss about moving us , even though we were the only ones there at that time. The music was like something in a funeral parlour. We did asked for it to be changed but was told they couldn't do that. (Why I don't know). We were there for Sunday lunch and as we often go to the pub thought we would give it a go. Big mistake. The glasses and cutlery were dirty. The meat was dried up on the top as if it had been warmed up in a microwave. The mash potatoes tasted like smash. Everything was tasteless and bland. The horseradish sauce was the best thing on the plate. Sorry but you need to go to the Royal Oak and try there Sunday lunch. You might pick up some tips. The young girl that served us was lovely so can't falt the service. I'm sorry but I don't think I will be recommending Sunday lunch there. Needs to improve a lot before we eat there again.

Good food and excellent service in a relaxing and peaceful setting. The garlic mushrooms starter was superb. My pint of Butcombe Bitter was very good but I understood that they cannot usually provide cask conditioned beer in the restaurant as it has to come from the pub underneath the restaurant. They were very kind in doing this for me on our visit as they were not too busy that evening. As the Horseshoe is one of the best real ale pubs in the area, this is a pity and hence my reason for not giving the visit 5 stars. Perhaps they would reconsider this policy in future but of course I thank them for serving me real ale on this occasion!

Food and service great at lunchtime last Saturday. Very friendly ambiance and nothing too much trouble. Dog friendly too. Bigger than it looks when you first enter as meanders around different corridors to multiple spaces that you can hide away in if you so wish. The food was great, proper decent home cooked food and lots of it. I had the cottage pie and my other half had the Davesaka - he was so chuffed with it - he rarely clears a plate but he wolfed the lot. A treasure of a place. We stopped in for only one drink while passing through the town. After peeking in we thought it looked great, like an old fashioned pub with big fireplaces, real ales, and every wall surface covered in something. We were right but what really sets this little place apart is the gorgeous garden. It's a long thin plot so not a big open space at the back but they've crammed in plants everywhere, there's shelter for dark days, colour everywhere. Such a nice environment and lovely staff. For such a small group of 30, Christmas food was served Luke warm, and prawns on a muffin with a fish sauce for starter didn't go down well, though I should have known better when selecting it. Portions were poor with one half of carrot, and parsnip. The 4 small spouts shivered on plate next to a thinly sliced turkey. It was only the warm gravy that improved the taste. Would not recommend this facility for a function. Very disappointed.
