This is just a fantastic pub whether that be for a family meal or a drink with your mates. Lance is a brilliant landlord and always makes you feel welcome.

Lovely welcoming pub with great food! Visited for the first time due to a recommendation. Had the pleasure of dining upstairs. 🍽 Deal - Fish Friday 2 x Haddock & Chips with mushy peas & tarter sauce - Total £14.00 (12 noon - 8:30pm). Free Parking situated on nearby streets. Excellent pub. I found myself stranded waiting for a lift after delivering a customer's vehicle. The service was second to none, and with friendly locals, I wanted to stay longer. I didnt eat here unfortunately, but the food that came out of the kitchen looked fantastic. Keep up the good work.

A well run warm and friendly atmosphere from the moment you walk through the door. Bar staff are friendly and polite. We had the Sunday roast, value you for money is unbearable at £16 x 2 for the price of 1. Food was excellent and presented by equally excellent members of staff Worth booking a table so as not to be disappointed The 👍😀 from me

Food really good but not what we expected. Went for steak night, £30 for 2 steaks and bottle of wine. Arrived 7pm for our pre booked table. Waitress advised us no steaks left. We both had chicken skewer starters, fish and chips, bottle of wine and a further drink. Cost us £80. Much more expensive night than planned. Feel like we have been ripped ofc. Beware if you go for a meal deal as if not available its very expensive for pub food

I had a burger and my friends had a chicken burger and a salad. All 3 meals were brought out quickly and well cooked. The price was reasonable. All in all worth the trip

Good pub for a drink and meeting Excellent

The staff and owners were on the ball all night. Never stopped as soon as a glass was empty or a plate finished it was cleared away. Always checking everything was OK and if you needed a another drink or anything. Food was very good compliments to the chef. Will definitely be going back.

Honestly nothing to change or add to this place, everything was perfect. Food tasted and looked like it had all been properly home made. Drinks choice is vast and of great quality. Staff was lovely and prices were reasonable for the quality

Wow! Not what we expected. This is a really smart pub, the staff were really nice, the other customers were nice and chatty. There was a pub dog, called Boris, cute as they come ... and as for.the food, just superb! Good portion sizes, great quality and a sensible price. 100% the perfect pub meal.

I visited the Sun Inn last Wednesday evening with my husband and 2 friends. We were seated quickly and given menus and drinks order taken. So far so good. We got our drinks, not quite correct but almost, and ordered our food, starters and main. They were a little slow bring the food but it looked OK. The batter on the king prawns was pale and soggy as was the batter on my brie. Mains arrived before the waitress had cleared the table so she took them back to the kitchen. Table cleared, food arrived. Cajun Chicken came in a bun, like a burger and the batter on the fish and chips again was pale and soggy. We queried the chicken dish and was assured it was correct. We decided to have a dessert, lemon creme brulee came as a cheesecake and the actual creme brulee was just whipped cream. Very disappointed in the whole experience. The bar was noisy with no social distancing, 16-20 people drinking and shouting around 2 tables. When we mentioned it the waitress said it's always like this on Wednesday. Needless to say we will not be eating there again. The service was slow and the food was something we all wanted to forget

Went to this pub / restaurant tonight, service first class, really friendly staff and reasonable priced, good music etc.Food horrendous order the fish totally inedible sent it back got a fresh one this time the chips were awful, trully dreadful food and for that reason and that reason only I shall NOT return.

Had Sunday lunch once again 3 courses. Wonderful meal starter was Brie with onion relish. Main. Roast beef roast potatoes mash veg and Yorkshire pud. Best gray I have ever had and sticky toffee pud and custard. Very tasty lovely mea could not fault it

Visited here for Sunday lunch having been here several months ago.Quality of food and service still as good as ever.Deep fried brie and peppered stilton mushrooms were to die for. The roast beef main was delicious with the best cooked veg I've had in ages.The pub was v busy but the service was excellent with additional requests for drinks to the table, no problem for the waiting staff.Will definitely be back before 2020!

We visited for the two course Sunday lunch, absolutely beautifully cooked, Starters so fresh and tasty, Roast dinner with a lovely selection of fresh vegetables served separately, and cooked to perfection. Staff polite friendly and attentive,Will definitely be returning.

I went there yesterday for the Tuesday steak deal, well worth the visit, Great food, and service, with a good selection of hand-pulled beers and lagers. The steaks were cooked to perfection and a choice of rib-eye or sirloin with all the trimmings.

The first Sunday in December was bright and cold and the warm welcome from Lance and his team at the Sun Inn was the start of a wonderful Sunday afternoon lunch.Starters of black pudding fritters stacked with beautifully 'runny' poached egg was the best way to fire the appetite for what was to come. Soft and meltingly delicious slices of pink roast beef atop buttery silky smooth mash and perfectly cooked seasonal veg.To round off a sweet, crunchy topped apple crumble with custard was the perfect ending to a meal I would recommend to anyone.Marcus, the head chef and his team in the kitchen deserve all the plaudits due to them.I'm the words of Strictlys Craig Revill Horwood, A-MA-ZING!

All the veg was really hard management was ignorant and rude.meal was awful.and cold manager was really ignorant. Charged me 50p for tap water.

Fish and chips to die for. Massive portions. Best book table as busy especially 5 o'clock onwards. Staff friendly and very helpful.

Had an excellant Sunday lunch 2 courses for £14. Good choice. I had battered. Brie with onion relish and salad two large pieces. Tasted excellant. Then. Roast beef homemade Yorkshire puddings roast potatoes mash potatoes and large dish of vegetables and jug of gravy. Food all freshly cooked tasted excellant plenty of choice service excellant. Surroundings the same. Choice of sweets these were extra but very good value for money. Sorry forgot the photos. There was nothing left on my plate. So that shows how nice it was

We are fairly regular customers now, the food is consistently good, service is excellent, and prices range from modest to almost give it away, especially on the offer days.We have been for Sunday lunch a couple of times in the past and it was good, yesterday was exceptional, we don’t remember ever having roast beef as good as this, pink, soft and tender, delicious!If they can maintain this sort of quality at the price getting a table isn’t going to be easy.

Friends recommend the Sun Inn to us, we decided to give Sunday lunch a try. We both has roast turkey dinners it was delicious. I managed to squeeze in fruit crumble. Food and service was spot on. Would definitely go back

I came with my 2 children and their dad we had starters and then did the 2 steaks and wine for £25. It was beautiful! The food was perfect the only slight complaint I had was I like my batter on onion rings crispier but that’s a personal preference so didn’t mention anything. My son had black pudding croquettes and gammon as main. The size of the gammon was bigger than his head! Then their dad had a belly pork special to start and then ribeye steak. I had Brie and then sirloin steak. We added the onion rings as a side but only had one each as portions we’re generous.All washed down with a bottle of red wine. My youngest son had chicken strips and chips then a chocolate brownie for pudding. I couldn’t squeeze another thing in but my eldest had a cheesecake. Again the size of his head. It was that lovely I’ve booked for Sunday lunch! Such a good find I highly recommend a visit.

We had been to the pub before for drinks but decided to go and have a meal.We went for the steak and wine deal it was very nice, the steak was cooked just right and a very nice sauvignon wine to go with it. After we had eaten we found out there was options to the steak deal, you could have had either a chicken dish or gammon steak. My wife would maybe have gone for one of the options if it had been offered. So it means we will be going again.

We visited for the 1st time on Sunday 4th August & absolutely loved it. Brilliant staff, superb food & great prices, we even had something, due to a fussy eater, that wasn't on the menu! Will definately be returning, loved it, well done to all.

We called in for Fish Friday. 2 fish and chips with peas for £10. Great value and not long to wait. Slightly dry fish but still enjoyed the place and atmosphere.

Have had few visits here and have had the steak deal 25 for 2 steaks with bottle of wine. Steaks come with a sauce if you wish triple cooked chips and massive home made onions. Fab not what to like. Lovely pub and friendly as well

My mum and I decided to try the 2 for 1 fish and chip deal on a friday. It's not really a deal, it's all its worth.Wine was expensive and this is just a pub, NOT a restaurant. Music was far too loud too.Nice pub to call in for a drink after work but only enough parking for 4 cars. We won't be going again.

Popped in on Friday Tea time, the pub is nice, friendly and comfortable and recently refurbished, ordered Fish n Chips for 2 which cost £10, food arrived promptly, the fish was fresh,the batter was crispy and the chips were good, washed down with Saltaire Blond ale, absolute heaven.

Was highly recommended by a friend so decided to give it a go.Sunday tea-time, 4 adults and 2 kiddies. Children go free so that's a big bonus.Menu isn't big but what there is good quality with good portions and reasonable costs.You have to bear in mind that this is good pub grub and not a restaurant.Due to its popularity we would say that it is best to book a table, which can be an annoyance but what the heck the place is popular, which says a lot.It can be a little noisy downstairs (which we recommend) but they have an upstairs area which will be quieter.Really nicely done out, facilities are good all in all a really good place for a meal and a drink.Only one downfall, car parking is extremely limited so you will have to use local roads.

The food here was lovely - honest home cooked with good portion sizes too . Red pepper and feta quiche was delicious and then the Bakewell tart was lovely and a very generous portion too ! Staff were so friendly and helpful and the atmosphere was chilled and relaxing- a great place to eat !

You will not be disappointed in any of the choices.We had a starter, main and dessert, main so good we forget to take any pictures!2 for 1 between 12 and 2pm on a Sunday make this affordable (£10 main course only) but well worth paying for if your outside these hours.

We have been meaning to come here for a while now so we booked a table for Sunday tea time. Me and my son arrived early and asked to see if our table was ready so we could be seated. We were told there was a table at the top of the stairs. We didn't know there was an upstairs so we had a wander and took ourselves upstairs. Upstairs was empty and none of the tables were actually set up.Not long after, our full table arrived and we ordered. Food was really nice. 4 empty plates. We had to ask for cutlery and had to ask again for pudding menus. We were not asked how our food was or if we wanted more drinks. We felt like we were forgotten about upstairs.It seemed like families were sent upstairs whereas downstairs was aimed more at adults. Not sure if I would return. Shame really as the food was nice.

I was recommended by a neighbour to try the Friday fish & chips. This was my first visit and I wasn't disappointed. A good selection of beer and ale to choose from and the food was delicious. Would recommend and will definitely visit again.

I booked for myself and 12 friends to enjoy a meal at the Sun Inn. We had the use of the space upstairs (which can seat 24) to ourselves, which gave us opportunity to hold a couple of quizzes during the evening. It also allowed me to float some balloons as decoration. The delicious food was served by a cheerful and helpful waitress, and the night went without a hitch. I would definitely recommend this venue to anyone. I will certainly be returning to take advantage of some of their food offers.

We recently visited The Sun Inn twice while in the area. Both meals were delicious and excellent value for money. The service was also excellent. When asking about the ingredients of a dish the waitress was very helpful and asked the chef about it. Great atmosphere, lovely décor and lots of delicious food to choose from. Perfect!

We came upon this place by chance whilst staying locally to help clear an elderly relative's house. After a hard day's work a perfect place for a family meal. Good quality food at sensible prices and all served with a smile. So good we went back next night with more of the crew - including Grandma!

Really enjoyed! Early evening treat, beautiful fish, chips and peas, great beers to chose from and super service. Lovely pub, nice decor, varied menu and specials board. Good value, can't fault, recommend.

My husband and I booked a table online a few days in advance but did not receive a confirmation so had to ring the night before to book. We had booked an early Saturday tea and I cannot recommend visiting at this time as there was a large party of pub crawling drinkers in who were very noisy. We were about to leave before ordering but luckily the party moved off. The seats around the perimeter of the pub were very stained and the condiments were also dirty and the serviette my cutlery came in was wet. More attention to detail is needed. The food was ok but we ordered a main course intending to have a dessert. We were never offered a dessert! There was no waiting staff on only bar staff so perhaps service is better in the evening. We didn’t bother trying to ask for a dessert and went to the supermarket on the way home for one instead. We won’t be going back which is a shame as it used to be our local years ago when it was just a drinkers pub.

Fantastic meal in a fantastic environment. Fish and chips lovely and the red wine is great. Lovely meal out with family. Always great no matter what day or time of the week we come.

Great pub food, great prices -what's not to like? We had 9 eating and the staff were friendly and attentive. We had starters and main and both were excellent. A number of people had the garlic mushrooms, which they loved and I had fish and chips which again were really good. Steaks were cooked well and everyone enjoyed their meal. We would definitely return.

Went for Sunday lunch as a group of six. The pub has a lovely warm feel and a good atmosphere. The decor is great. We were warmly welcomed by friendly staff and the service was good. All the meals were excellent and sensibly priced. Would definitely recommend.

Went here with my partner,read reviews from local paper,the staff not the best,the food was ok we both had Sunday lunch one turkey one beef the beef was chewy and so thin the turkey was fatty,the gray was like water not good,the Yorkshire puddings had stuffing on top but was a bit hard.

Tried here after seeing a review in Examiner. I have to say it was fabulous. I had spicy chicken skewers with yoghurt sauce to start, the hubby had the confit of belly pork - both were delicious. I had roast beef for Sunday lunch, the hubby had turkey. Again, both excellent. The home made Yorkshire pudding was tremendous but the roasties were even better! It was so good we’re going back in 2 weeks. Faultless food, faultless service.

Went back again tonight for Fish Friday. Great value with two lots of beer battered fish, thrice cooked chips and mushy peas for only £10. Had an amazing white chocolate tiramisu to finish. Great quality, great service and atmosphere. 11/10 from myself, partner and two kids. Can’t recommend this place enough.

Very enjoyable lunch had to wait a while as it’s was a busy Friday lunchtime, but was worth the wait highly recommend a visit and we will be visiting again soon

This is a stylish pub situated a short detour off the M62 but is also very popular with locals.The pub is stylishly decorated but has a warm and welcoming feel to it with friendly staff and a pleasant open interior.We visited recently for an evening meal and found the menu to offer a number of well priced options. However they offer a Steak Meal which is two steaks and a bottle of wine or two pints Monday to Thursday evening.We went for the Rib-eye and Sirloin to try both and both were excellently cooked and were well done. These came with garlic butter, salad and tomato however they also came with some of the best chips we have eaten and were a perfect accompaniment !For dessert we had the Sticky Toffee Pudding and a special of Rice Pudding and both were excellent and good value at £4.50The wine we chose was a very good Malbec which came with a screw cap so we could take home.I also enjoyed an excellent pint of Taylors Ram Tam which was very well-kept.The pub also has other food and drink offers so iy is worth checking out their web-site to see what is on offer.Cant wait to go back !

Booked my family in for my fathers 75th Birthday, have to say couldn't fault the staff, the venue, the food or the service. My mother who is a huge pudding fan declared her sticky toffee pudding as the best she has ever had! Decided to visit after the favourable review in the Examiner. Booked a table through the online system on the pubs website, but when we arrived the proprietors didn’t seem to be expecting us. That said, we had a table fairly quickly after arriving, We ordered from the set Sunday menu, but my daughter was set on having garlic mushrooms to start and this was kindly accommodated. For our mains we chose 3 roasts - sampling all 3 meat choices - and fish and chips. All was nice, maybe a bigger portion of veg would have been nicer. The only criticism I do have is the absolutely awful Yorkshire puddings, stodgy and undercooked.

The fish and chips are the best I’ve ever had would definitely recommend this pub ,the atmosphere is very friendly for everyone.

Moving to the area and decided to try the Sun Inn. Two of us enjoyed the fish and chips for only £10. The hand cut chips and homemade batter made the meal that little bit more special. The kids meal of fish goujons was huge and could easily have fed two small children. The only reason I can’t rate this as 5 is because the service could’ve been improved by having more staff so they were able to be more attentive to each table. We will definitely be back to try some of the other menu items and offers.

Popped in here for an early dinner, staff were very welcoming and the bar clean and nicely decorated. Food was exceptional, especially the chefs curry. I have travelled extensively on the sub continent and this was as good as any. Prices very reasonable.

Stopped here driving back up to York after friends recommended. Only 1 veggie option which was not helpful for us, seeing as my wife is a fussy eater and vegetarian, but the staff were helpful enough in finding something she would eat. Live music was pleasant and the atmosphere was overall nice.

First called into the Sun shortly after the refurb and found the lighting far too bright. We were tempted back for the fish and chips Friday offer, at two for £10 it seemed worth a try. First thing we noted was the lighting had been toned down and the place was much more cosy, a definite plus. There were also a couple of well behaved dogs in the stone paved area of the bar, we do like a pub with dogs and an open fire.We were advised on ordering that there would be a delay as the fish were so big they could only get two at a time in the frying basket! The ‘delay’ turned out to be 20 minutes which for piping hot food freshly prepared isn’t a delay in our opinion. The food was excellent, good batter on the fish, chips sprinkled with herbs of some sort which was interesting, mushy peas just right, really couldn’t fault it.We’ll be back!

Visited after phoning to reserve a table in advance, also checked if the 2 for 1 early bird Sunday lunch offer was available but was told it had to be ordered in advance the day before. We were welcomed, ordered drinks at the bar and were directed to our table .A friendly member of staff brought the Sunday lunch menu which consists of a choice of starters, roast meat dinners, homemade fish fingers and chips and a couple of vegetarian options. We ordered our starters and they arrived within an acceptable time period. The spicy chicken kebabs were the favourite of the day served with a mint and yoghurt sauce and a side salad. Mains followed soon after the fish fingers were actually a large piece of battered fish served with chips, mushy peas and tartare sauce. The roast ham dinner was delicious with plenty of ham and the accompanying yorkshire pudding, mashed and roast potatoes and vegetables were all cooked well. The beef although thinly sliced was tender and tasty and again all accompaniments were delicious. Two of our party succumbed to desserts the sticky toffee pudding looked and smelled delicious and was pronounced excellent whilst the salted caramel tart did not stick around for long! Sunday lunch was priced at £10 for 1 course and £14 for 2 courses.

Great selection of gin the drink of the moment. On top of that there was plenty of choice of beers for the boys both on tap or bottled. The food menu is just what you'd expect from a pub with burgers,fish n chips and the usual favourites. A little disappointed that there was only one veggie option as we had two veggie lovers with one of them having a dislike for mushrooms and with that option being mushroom stroganoff well it just isn't good enough in this day and age. To be fair the staff did say they would cobble something together and it was a noted fact that the staff are all friendly and helpful. The Saturday we visited they had a live singer on with just the right volume so you could hear and enjoy the music but not too loud that you couldn't still chat. All in all a top evening for our first visit and we will be visiting again

Was a little shocked to find that the pub had completely changed! Food was great and they have a huge selection of Gins which are all 2-4-1 on a Saturday which was a little disappointing as we visited on a Wednesday evening. Staff are very friendly and recommended a few places of interest and all in all it’s definitely a great stop. Definitely worth a visit and I highly recommend the Fish & Chips
