The Honest John Bar & Coffee Tavern in Calderdale

Excellent atmosphere and great staff, Sally was really approachable and made sure to attend to all needs!! We were a big rowdy group but the atmosphere was fun and there were smiles all around x All of the staff were great which made our night special!! Great decor - Cocktails were yummy - not too sugary -highly recommend

Delicious food and a relaxed atmosphere.

Visited this lovely place for lunch. The decor was welcoming, the place was clean, the staff were friendly and the food was magnificent! Due to the set up, a main dining area and a side room, you have little buzzers that allow you to call for staff when you are ready to order or want to pay. I had a hummus salad with chips and a mint tea with lemon. My friend had a tuna toastie with a side salad. Will certainly come back and definitely recommend this place.

Had scrambled egg on toast with bacon. And it was perfected eggs were done spot on soft and fluffy. Seems very sad I no but best eggs on toast I have ever had lol 😋

Really nice atmosphere and friendly staff

One of my favourite spots in Todmorden. Great food, drinks and vibes always. I've been for breakfast, lunch and dinner and have never been disappointed. The staff are really lovely, it's a dog friendly place and they'll always have a treat (or 5) for our dog!

Interesting building. What was it's purpose in the past? Love the menu...all that Greek theme! Such a shame the Italian ethos has overtaken the Greek...both cultures have have made such strong influences on life

Good place to know about in Tod. Coffee was good and the homemade scone excellent. My only dislike is its rather dark and gloomy. I prefer the Old CoOp over road for its lovely bright dining room on the 1st floor.

Went in for a few drinks, staff were great and drinks were spot on. So we decided to go in the day after for food, the staff were just as nice and food was really good. Will definitely be going back

Service was great but I think the hanging kebab could have had more pieces of chicken on. I have been to other places and the hanging kebab was a lot bigger. I lived in Greece for many yearsand know how to make tzatziki. The tzatziki here seemed to have hardly any garlic in. I asked for a slice of feta cheese separately but they said they couldn't do it. So all in all quite disappointed.Also I love animals and the bar allows dogs but unfortunately one dog was barking a lot after about 20 mins the owners left and it was a lot quieter.

It was okay, but I have to be honest. I've had better meze. A couple of dishes were very good, a couple not very tasty, and not hot. We had to wait quite a long time to be served as well, maybe that's why it wasn't hot. In reply, to below, it was last night at 7.30. Big table of us. It really wasn't bad, just I had to give my honest opinion. We didn't eat much of the gyros it wasn't hot, and not very tasty (my opinion). Overall it was okay, and everyone else who had hanging kebabs thought it was great. I will try again and have the kebab. The place itself is a nice atmosphere 👌

Had a fantastic meal today, excellent staff and atmosphere.

Booked a 1 1/5 hour slot at 5:30 Sun but couldn’t have desserts as the kitchen had closed! Food was just ok to be honest but the meat dishes were somewhat over cooked. Pretty disappointing as it was recommended to us. Not sure we would return.

Great spot, met friends for coffee and a snack. I had the scone which was huge, great value for money. Pleasant and helpful staff. Give it a try you won't be disappointed!

Wheelchair accessible only to the outside area

We found this place purely by accident and glad we did. I thought we should check out the menu before sitting down as I wasn't sure from the outside as to what they were offering. You could even be forgiven in thinking it's another Wetherspoon given the nature of the building. I wonder if a menu by the door would be a good idea to advertise their wide ranging choice of meals including Greek dishes and a full bar. In addition you will be able to see if it's within your price range. What we had was very good and reasonably priced, and the service was quick and pleasant. It's an impressive dining room but feel a little "tidy up" would give it a more upmarket vibe.

Seems closer to a cafe than a bar but the service was very good, and I still got what I wanted so what is there really to complain about? Incidentally, you have to leave the establishment, and walk around the side of the building to get to the beer garden or outdoors area that doesn’t have a door to get into it — kinda awkward but is what it is

Nicely presented food in a very nice setting. Need to come back again to try out the cakes (main was so many carbs I couldn't move).

Good place to eat ,Greek food which was very good tasty and plenty of it. We ate outside had to order by going inside on arrival .would have been nice if staff came to check on you to see if you need more drinks etc. but service was good otherwise.We had the luck of going on a sunny hot day which is rare ! some of tables one half of tables were in bright hot sun which was uncomfortable to sit and eat in and needed option of shade ie parasol .The other half of tables in shade which was better for us to be honest .But how many of those days do we get . Didn’t eat inside so can’t say how that was

What a hidden gem this is. Our first visit we called in for cake and coffee and was amazed at the selection of drinks , cakes and food on offer in a relaxing old bank building. We’ll be back asap to try a breakfast or other meal and the young people working there were very friendly. Give it a go 👍

We just happened upon the Honest John by accident how glad we did.! We sat outside in the small but lovely beer garden, and enjoyed a lovely meal we both enjoyed a delicious meal of pie + peas .The staff were very attentive and polite.Honest John we will be back. Thank you.

Great food and really friendly staff. The seating area outside is lovely and relaxing and the inside is very modern and clean.

Food was tasteless. Chips tasted like baked in water (how would that be even possible). Burgers were same, no flavour what so ever. Staff clearly didn't feel like working either. @Response: guess you are right, we must be used to better quality food... Apologies for the bad review. We will make sure to choose better establishments next time!

Had a mediocre to poor meal and underwhelming service from tired-looking staff who's response to our feedback about one dish being stale and inedible was total lack of care. Shame as it was my birthday supper and we chose to eat here after a previous positive experience. Won't be rushing back again😐 Thanks for your reply. We too were surprised by the difference in service. We were in yesterday evening around 6. Staff accommodated us though we didn't have a booking which was great but would expect a more conciliatory response to a complaint about a dish which we found to be poor other than 'i haven't had it before' and still charging us though we didn't eat it.

Decent food and friendly staff. The food service was extremely slow but we were warned before we ordered. Prices reasonable.

Super personable and wonderful bunch of people with amazing food. The ultimate Todmorden experience. The food was outstanding. The Cypriot breakfast was done with perfection and so was the flatbread. I'd like to also state that the hazelnut oat milk latte and the caramel cappucino is something that I still think about today and I am going to come back for, even as a flying visit. It's not even one of those artisan pretentious coffees, it's just a really amazingly well made inclusively brewed coffee from 2023. Thank you also for accommodating my dog. While my dog is not a Labrador, he looks like one and seemed to have turned up at the same time as four other black labs. What a meetup ❤️ thank you for everything. Will be back again soon!

Had the feta Greek salad and Anthony had triple cheese and ham toastie. Absolutely gorgeous, good portions, tasty and really friendly staff. Love the idea of the call button when you want to order. Would definitely recommend it, and the amount of cocktails and gins!

My food was delicious, I'd definitely have it again (a pork and chicken toasted Greek flatbread thing, fantastic!). Churros for dessert with chocolate sauce, fabulous!

The food here is so good, we chose a selection of Meze dishes to share and everything was delicious. The whipped feta dip was incredible! We were only passing through but wish we lived closer or we’d be there all the time. Staff and atmosphere lovely too.

The decor is lovely, plenty of space between tables the staff are really nice and friendly and the food was lovely. We had our office Christmas do here and everyone loved their food....mmmm the cocktails too!

My friends and I had a lovely time. We booked the lounge at no extra cost to us, we only had drinks which they had a huge selection of. Table service was perfect just ring a bell and someone comes straight away. Definitely recommend

Nice cosy restaurant. I like interior. Service is quick and effective, you have a small ring on the desk, whenever you need to order, or pay just ring and the waitress is coming. Food was tasty and worth the price.

Honest John's has become weekly favourite of ours for a lovely coffee and snack.

An honest review for the Honest John. Food, ambience, service generally very good (save for the young lady with the blue hair streaks) Lighten up love.....you work in hospitality, not a funeral service. A smile and an acknowledgement that punters are paying good money to patronise your workplace surely wouldn't go amiss. Look at your co-workers....they seem to enjoy their work! The surroundings are great, converted from a bank with relics of the building's past, preserved.....well done for that. Some of the higher surfaces are significantly covered in dust and cobwebs and really need to be addressed....as do the toilets. While functional and superficially clean, they really need a bit of a deep clean. Corners are neglected everwhere in this establishment. There's a lot to like here, especially with the quirky yet very well attended ordering/paying system. A little attention to the housekeeping would work wonders and afford the star i omitted
