The best rooms in the area at the best price, the pub has some fantastic food that is prepared with skill and care, black pudding salad is a triumph, staff are all excellent and the owners are very welcoming. Cant wait to go back.

Came over to visit family from hull and we decided to go out for lunch and my family picked this local bar and restaurant to have our lunch.. Nice entrance to the bar, which we was met with a warm smile and welcoming. I the lady showed us to the table , there was 7 of us, so she just pushed a table closer so we had lots of room to sit and enjoy our meal, the child got 2 sheets of colouring paper, which he stared to do straight away.. We got given menus and drinks orders were taken. Fabulous warm log fire and beautiful ombré about this place, cosy and impressive all in one place. Once we looked at the menu we made or choice, all picking different kinds of meals and helpful information when asked for details. All the food came within good time, and cooked freshly, hot and full of flavour. Kids meal was of a good size and good price for the quality. Not one of us could fault the delicious food presented to us. The lady serving and looking after us was tentative but not over powering. ( sorry didn’t get her name) We often come to visit family and would differently call here again, we even might stay in the on site rooms. Car park to the rear and on a summer time you can sit out, which I’m sure just adds to this wonderful experience.

Had lunch today food was absolutely delicious we have been to many pub restaurants in the area but the food here was the best and the lovely lady that served us was amazing really bubbly and happy. Elle I think she was called. Having staff like her really makes a difference to a company.

I cannot speak highly enough of every member of staff that we met. They were all so welcoming and friendly. The food was an extremely good standard. I would definitely recommend to anyone.

First time visiting on Christmas Eve and had a lovely time! Despite the pub being so full, the staff were so lovely, polite and attentive. There was a great selection of food (not just a set festive menu like most places do on Christmas Eve). The food is well priced, good portion sizes and came out piping hot! My entire party had a great time, we will definitely be returning 😊

Great food. I was pleasantly surprised with the really good vegan options. Was offered arguably the best vegan options for breakfast, outside of the places that are 100% plant based.

Great atmosphere and service but let down by the menu choice which was limited and not well balanced in terms of choice. Fish and chips were good but the curry, lasagne and pie were very average. The lasagne was very rich and lacking in pastas, more like a bolognaise although all fresh. Cheese and biscuits were very good, plenty of variety and portion size was excellent. ala carte priced food but over priced for a pub dining experience.

Exiting and delicious tasting menu! Me and my partner are both foodies and love trying something new, this did not disappoint!! Everything was perfect, from the friendly welcome at the door and service from the staff, cocktails, wine list and food. Great quality and value for money for such a fabulous experience. Can’t wait to come back and already planning our next visit!

We called in for a quick drink and were shocked at the cost especially considering one of the 2 drinks was a small soft drink from a pump on draught. Totally understand everything has gone up post pandemic however over £10 for a half draught Cola and a glass of house red is really too much for a country pub frequented by locals in a small quiet village. Pricing yourself out of the market springs to mind.. We won’t be back for a quick drink after this.

It’s next level eating!! Nathan and his tiny little brother Matthew create an absolute storm in the kitchen. Most definitely on par with Babel in Budapest, this restaurant is a must for any foodie. Turn up early for a drink and be greeted by the delightfully energetic FOH/bar runner/Woman in charge who will make you feel like you’ve been a local for many years and take some time to appreciate the well appointed bar. This place is an dream. I’m almost loathed to tell anyone about it. I want it all to myself. 🤫

The night after the wedding of our son, my family and I went here for breakfast. We had booked in advance as there were 11 children and 18 adults. There was coffee, tea and juice waiting for us as we arrived and our tables were already set and they Brough hot today to us straight away. We received a full English breakfast within 15 minutes of sitting down and we were all served together. Food was delicious and hot. There was asmuch toast with jam or marmalade as we wanted and constant hot drinks. I could not fault this place or the staff. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. What a perfect ending to our perfect family wedding weekend. Thank you so so much. We will definately be back. 😍😀

This is a must visit venue for quality food and an exceptional dining experience, especially the monthly tasting menus. We have visited many times and it does not disappoint. My wife and I have also stayed in one of the venues rooms and made a full night of the dining experience on a number of occasions, well worth it with a full breakfast included the following day. Great value for money with quality food.

First visit, a birthday celebration, excellent food, friendly excellent service, a good quality house wine will definitely visit again.

Visited for the March taster menu and Matthew did us proud, We tried the March 5 course taster menu & the food was magnificent. OYSTER, FENNEL, APPLE, CUCUMBER, GREEN HERBS SMOKED DUCK, RADISH, WALNUTS, ORANGE TUNA TARTARE, JACK DANIELS, COCKLES, SHALLOTS 82˚ BRAISED LAMB LEG, PEAS & CARROTS, TARRAGON, TRUFFLES THE GIN & TONIC Over the last 20 years I have always had good food at 1885 Matthew, Nathan & Victoria have done great things with the restaurant and pub. Keep up the good work your food and place is amazing.

We enjoyed the seasonal taster menu, not generally an oyster fan, but these were crispy fried and delicious! The duck was absolutely fantastic, a superb blend of spices, to be fair, we enjoyed each of the 5 courses and finished off with an additional cheese plate. Not been for ages, couldn’t fault it, will definitely return soon!

I stayed at 1885 on Saturday 29th January 2022,i booked a room for just 1 night as i was on a business trip, I was absolutely amazed at the extremely high standard of the room, the food was excellent and the staff were so polite and friendly, I will defiantly stay at 1885 again, I recommend 1885 to all, a great place to stay and excellent food and the prices are excellent. Well done guys i will see you all again soon.

Haven’t been for several years, the new restaurant design and decor is superb! The tasting menu was delicious, interesting tasty dishes beautifully presented. Unfortunately they really need to up their game with the finer details. They could have done with at least another two servers, they were running around obviously stretched. They need to be more vigilant offering water, removing used wine glasses etc. We opted for the wine pairing and the pours were not very consistent! Also when you have wine pairing, you expect a bit more description and introduction of the wines….where it’s from, what year, description and be shown the bottle…a bit of a chat about the wine adds to the enjoyment of the experience! The wines sometimes arrived half way through the course too. In summary, really good food but if they are selling the restaurant as tasting menu and wine pairings, they need to up their game and train their serving staff better.

It might have been 18 months since this team had to suspend their duties, but they are back better and stronger. New staff and a complete dining room makeover make the fact that the magic is still there, even more remarkable. Perfect friendly greeting and shown to our table without any fuss. A big smile and two champagne cocktails arrived, a fine start to our new tasting menu experience. 5 ample courses of fine dining quality, fresh and tasty throughout A perfect night ended with the chaps coming from their new visible kitchen area to enjoy a few minutes reflection with their customers before clearing up.... a great way to round off the evening, well done everyone We will be back next month for the French themed taster, and deffo join you in summer for the “live band experience”

Please ignore the management food pictures from 2013. That chef is evidently elsewhere. Portions are simply too large and the food waste must be a problem. A rice dish was stodgy and over-salted. Having said that, the side vegetables were all cooked correctly and the beef was fine. A shame we could not face dessert. Coffee less than average quality from a lovely sparkly machine.

I took a trip to 1885 with my family and partner for my birthday in May. We ordered the meat platter which is just divine! It's a sharer for two but there is SO MUCH FOOD and it's all delicious! This place comes highly recommended.

Really friendly staff, comfortable atmosphere and excellent food. I can personally recommend the chicken with crab and pear - it really works! And the cheese selection was amazing. And the assiette of desserts. And the wine. Innovative flavour combinations, - great use of gin and rhubarb. Lovely evening

Had Sunday lunch here with my wife, the meal portions are large and really well presented. We managed three courses but were absolutely struggling to finish the pudding. The price is excellent, just over £50 for two including drinks. I think booking is essential and we will definitely be going again.

La comida era excepcional; teníamos el menú degustación - que la verdad es que es una indulgencia para el paladar pero así merece la pena. Cada plato era delicioso y con las bebidas elegidas para acompañar cada uno nos sentimos como si estuviéramos aprendiendo así como disfrutando de una comida. Si sincero lucha para beber todas las bebidas (nuestra culpa para visitar el pub primero), pero estoy contento de que me sentí muy satisfecho con mi comida. El restaurante es un lugar relajante perfecto para cualquiera que quiera una buena comida y un excelente servicio al cliente, que por desgracia se está volviendo muy raro estos días! Otro galardonado de noche- gracias 1885! Estamos planeando nuestra boda el próximo año y recomendaría aquí también para bodas pequeñas como me imagino la atención al detalle sería insuperable.

Lugar agradable con un personal muy acogedor. La decoración era perfecto para un pub británico y estaba lleno de gente a mediodía. No podría elegir un estupendo menú de empanadas de carne con cerveza, pescado y patatas fritas a las hamburguesas increíbles. Aros de cebolla y patatas fritas servidos con la comida una comida en ellos mismos. Todo por un precio razonable. Recomiendo encarecidamente una visita si estás en la zona.

La última cena la noche tenía con tres amigos, compartimos un tablón de pescado para el arranque y había una gran variedad de pescado (abadejo, gambas, maltratado, vieiras, rape) y suficiente para cuatro para un principiante. Se sirve con lechuga, col y limón cuñas.

Lo que una noche de placer para el gastrónomo más exigente! Opción de menú de precio fijo o incluso a la carta no eran lo suficientemente fuertes que nos refresca con el menú de degustación con una bebida cada campo cuidadosamente seleccionado para hacer la noche perfecta de comida y vino peleón que te puedas imaginar.

Primero de todo me gustaría decir que los alimentos no es normal, es bueno, pero no me dejaba poner 3. 5 estrellas. Yéndose de que podría haber sido mucho mejor, pero para algunos errores es imperdonable por el chef. Lo positivo es que las bebidas estaban bien juego con los platos aparte de quizás el Sherry. 2 de los platos eran excepcionales (plato de gambas y pez espada) la salsa con el pez espada era para morirse y pide que en un abrir y cerrar de ojos. 1 muy bueno (escalope) muy bien preparado. 3 promedio (Venado, perdiz, tabla de quesos), el venado estaba muy bien preparadas, pero la salsa de chocolate con leche no funcionaba en absoluto, la perdiz paté era pasable, y la tabla de quesos era sosa y aburrida. Ahora a la 1 plato principal, el terrible desierto era un fondant de chocolate. Uno de mis favoritos y tener preparado este en casa, sé que no es tan difícil. Entiendo que quizás más difícil hacer múltiples cubre todos a la vez, pero estas son destinadas a ser profesionales. Lo que nos sirvieron fue una torre estrecha de seco, pobre pastel de chocolate. No una deliciosa salsa que irradie de chocolate para ser visto saliendo de la abominación. Realmente no puedo creer que deje que se salir de la cocina y el Chef debe avergonzarse por hacerlo. Cuando se paga buen dinero por este tipo de comida no esperes principiante hora. Cuando me quejé de la camarera se disculpó y luego volvimos y nos dijo que el chef se disculpa y aquí está un poco de salsa de chocolate. No era lo suficientemente buena, especialmente porque era tan recocido la salsa no podía salvarlo. Fue una pena ya que este menú con un poco más de pensamiento y habilidad podría haber sido excelente. En el otro lado no experimentar algunos excelencia aquí así que estaría abierto a probar el restaurante nuevo.

La comida es perfecto. El personal es excelente y muy amable. Muy cálido y acogedor restauran. Recomiendo el Brie frito y también el almuerzo de domingo

After considering several options for our Golden Wedding lunch we chose 1885. From our first discussion of the menu through to the end of the meal everything was perfect. We were offered a wide choice of dishes to preselect, but a last minute request for a vegetarian dish presented no problem. The large square table in the private room made it a very social gathering, with everyone involved in our reminisances, while the service was efficient and unobtrusive. !885 has a reputation for high quality food and the meal was of the anticipated hgh standard, bringing favourbale comments from our happy guests.

We held my birthday celebrations at 1885 The Restaurant on a Saturday evening, having booked the Restaurant for our exclusive use for around 50 guests. The food was very, very good. We planned ahead with Nathan and took his recommendations. The fish platter looked stunning and tasted fabulous, the hot courses were excellent, lasagne, chicken curry and macaroni cheese. As for the creme brûlée, it was to die for. All in all a fantastic night, with very attentive service, I cannot fault it. Victoria was the hostess on the night, good job done, Victoria.I can only heartily recommend anyone considering this location as a venue for a party or wedding.

The restaurant has a comfortable waiting area to have a pre drink. We decided on the Prix Fixe 3 courses for £24.95. The 3 courses were all excellent. The10 oz flat iron steak was superb, perfectly cooked. The only criticism is why serve macaroni cheese with heaps of broccoli and then give a side dish of vegetables with even more broccoli?. I love broccoli but that was too much.We were seated near the swinging kitchen door and on reflection we should have requested one of the other vacant tables as the door was non stop with staff constantly going past, so don't accept or choose this location if other tables are free. First class, attentive staff. Recommended.

We held a family and friends buffet lunch at 1885 The Restaurant to celebrate our Golden Wedding and our grandson`s christening. Everything was just perfect. The buffet was exactly what we wanted and everyone without exception was very complimentary about the food. Victoria was front of house with her staff and never once did we have to think about everything being done, because the staff were so attentive to people's needs. We would highly recommended the venue for any family or friends gathering confident that if at all possible all needs will be met. Thank you 1885.

I had previously overlooked this restaurant as i initially thought it would be expensive as it offers the 6 course taster menu.However, after seeing it advertised through the gourmet dining card, offering 25% off total bill, i thought this the ideal time to try, and booked a family meal for 4, to find that it had a wonderful menu choice for 2 or 3 courses between £18-£20 per head in the restaurant, or similar choices in the attached pub.We chose to dine in the restaurant which had lovely decor and ambience and were well attended to by the staff. Tasters were provided in the bar seating area before being taken to our table in the restaurant.The food was outstanding.I am so pleased to have discovered this little spot and will certainly dine there again

Our first visit to the restaurant, but hopefully not our last. The setting is lovely, and the food and service are fantastic.Two of our party had pork chop which was tender, tasty and really well cooked, others had fish and said that was excellent. The service was first class and the bill very reasonable. Certainly worth a further visit.

Went last night for the tasting menu. They are still turning out fantastic dishes at great prices. Who'd have thought salmon and coconut would taste so good together?

Took my mother here for the Mothers Day roast deal on Sunday. The restaurant is lovely inside and nicely furnished. The staff were absolutely excellent, its hard to think of a time I've been so impressed.Food was delicious and just enough time was given between courses. Very reasonable for the high quality food we ate. We will definitely be returning.

My gravlax starter came warm, which I have never come across before and I found it unpleasant. The steak that I and another party member went for was amazingly taste free and the vegetable portion was tiny. Maybe we were just unlucky but I had expected more from 1885's reputation.On the upside the wines are well priced.

This is a great themed night. We returned once again to experience this meal which was well supported. As usual the food was first class as was the Beaujolais. The wine was an excellent accompaniment to the food. Service was very professional headed up by the attentive Vicky.

We stopped of at 1885 The Pub on our way back from the cinema Saturday early evening. Even though it was wet, dark and windy outside, inside was light and bright and airy. The menu was pub grub with a twist. We both fancied burgers but there were other pub favorites such as fish & chips. My partner ordered the pork & chorizo burger and I had the mushroom & brie one. We didn't have to wait long until they arrived, served on a wooden board - the centerpiece was the burger, piled high with fillings and on either side a tower of crisp onion rings and a tub of chips, all homemade. What a delight! We were silenced whilst we ate the tastiest burgers we have ever had. We are definitely going back! What gem to find on our doorstep - wish we'd visited sooner.

Table for 6, 3 generations, had a great time. Greeting always friendly, drinks and a relaxed start. Managed to book the "round table" and find a perfect menu choice for everyone. Not been here before...decided to go somewhere we'd not visited previously. Very nicely turned out restaurant with extremely pleasant and efficient staff. Nice simple menu...not overwhelmed with choice. Both courses excellent, and rather substantial, no room for dessert sadly! Surf n' turf highly recommended...the steak was perfectly cooked (rare). Definitely coming back.

We have visited the restaurant many times and always enjoyed the food and atmosphere. We were disappointed to find that apart from our group of four that there was only two more people eating. This lead to a poor atmosphere. We were looked after the ever professional Vicky and staff. The food was not up to their usual high standards, The main course was barely warm.

Sunday lunch, there was no-one to greet us on arrival, no staff at the bar. The menu choice seems to be less than on previous trips. The starters were fine, the portion size of the main course is good but steak knives were needed to cut the beef. The ice cream for desert appeared to have been left out, as it was already melting when it was served. Not the usual high standard!

This was a really amazing night. We have seen this tribute night here previously and never tire from watching this act. There was three sets with one of our food courses between each set. The food was up to 1885's usual high standards. We were served by Vicky and her team who as ever are friendly and professional. Excellent value for money. We will be back.

Living Social half price 7 course taster menue offer but so good we will be back and happy to pay full price. Lovely staff, great food and very accomodation of our little dietary 'quirks'.

Stayed here with my partner . Brilliant. Second time we booked was a prob(not the hotel but the agent we booked through) but the owner was so apologetic and arranged a further booking at our convenience . The food, rooms , service . Everything is first class and at at fantastic price . Nothing is too much trouble. Cannot recommend this place enough . Superb !

After an initial drink in the bar area we enjoyed the taster menu with added drinks per course. Nathan, Matthew, Vicky and staff were fantastic and showed that the art of customer service is indeed not dead!!!The food was outstanding and couldn't fault a thing. The taster menu encouraged you to try tastes but did not disappoint with a wide range to suit all. The drinks came alongside every course and we never went thirsty!Could not recommend this restaurant enough and we will definitely be back again and again. Well worth the visit! I visited at the weekend to have the groupon tasting menu. The food was delicious, refined but comforting but really the atmosphere and surroundings let this place down. We added the wine flight which was a nice touch but felt the surroundings were not worth the £65+£50 that we paid. Overall a little disappointed with the experience but cannot fault the food.I would return for more of a casual dining experience but not really for a posh celebratory meal.

If you ever want to impress someone , but keep their feet on the ground, take them to 1885. The staff are friendly and so welcoming, so relaxed yet professional right down to the minutest detail. Have a drink, take as long as you want over the vast creative menu. We had a great meal, such brilliant service - a cool blend of fun, humour and accuracy ! Bought the groupon deal £65 for 2. Went with friends who hadn't bought the deal but the restaurant agreed to do the same deal for them. Booking a table was a little difficult with the restaurant only opening fri, sat and sun lunch, however that was the only blip. The food was delicious, beautifully presented and each course tasted lovely. The service was excellent we were asked if we wanted a break between courses which was very welcome. The Turkish delight dessert was the course which we left a little of, not being our favourite but the sorbet was very good. My favourites were the sea trout with crayfish and the lamb spring roll and fillet. Having said that the belly pork was fab too with perfect crackling. Had a good Malbec or 2 and a lovely sauvignon Sat down at 7.45 and left at midnight a leisurely and perfect evening.

Been a while since we dined here, but continues to be excellent food, Prixe Menu offering good choice as well as a la Carte. Excellent young staff from a great welcome to efficient pleasant service. Lovely ambience and whilst in no rush to leave at the end of the evening we didn't feel pressured to.Must return sooner than later!

We went to their fish night a few years ago & it was really nice so thought we'd book again for this year. We were not impressed this time, 5 courses with a wine reception for £35 a head. An amuse bouche of Vichysoisse (a soup of creamed leeks, onions & potatoes) which apart from the chef sticking a lump of smoked salmon in it was not fish related. A starter of mackerel three ways followed by a main course of sea trout with king prawns & crayfish tails and that was it for the fish. Obviously I don't expect a fish related dessert but there were another two courses, a chocolate dessert followed by cheese & biscuits, both of which were to share. We have eaten at 1885 several times & have never been disappointed but we thought this was a poor choice of menu, only two real fish courses out of five & both similar types of fish. No complaints about the actual food but we would have liked a third fish course (perhaps shell fish) instead of two dessert courses.

Just outside Halifax is an elegant dining experience. White tablecloths, silver service and a fantastic tasting menu at a reasonable price. Not just for but would ideally compliment a special occasion. Must be formally recognized soon.

1885 kindly squeezed us in at the last minute for a Mother's Day meal. We had an excellent value for money three course meal. The staff were friendly, and accommodating. My daughter was suffering with toothache and would only eat soft food. The staff were happy to speak with the chef to provide her with something easy to eat. I had a white chocolate mouse for dessert with a dark chocolate truffle.....wow it was the best dessert I have had in recent months. We have visited here a number of times and once again we were not disappointed

An excellent lunch time meal in a great restaurant. The food was to their usual high quality served by friendly professional staff. The beef was amazing cooked to perfection.

Have eaten here a few times and enjoyed the pub, however ........ We took two friends who had never been and we're looking forward to the great food we promised them but what a let down. The first course, the fish sharing plank,was amazing. Our friends were then looking forward to their second course, of which, both had ordered the scampi. When it arrived the food was a terrible colour. All chips,and scampi were the same colour and that was a horrible dirty brown, in fact it was hard to distinguish the food from the wooden plates they were served on. I had ordered the chicken burger which I did not eat as I felt the chicken tasted to be on the turn and the batter was so oily and greasy, it was terrible! When the waitress asked how we enjoyed our food we all pointed to our almost full plates and said no, the food was really bad and the colour horrendous. She just sniffed, collected our plates and left. .. There was no apology, no mention of we will do better next time. We felt badly let down and will never take anyone here again and we shan't be recommending it to anyone either. Maybe it was the chefs day off but we deserved an apology instead of a sniff when we gave the waitress back almost full plates.

I've just returned from a catch up with the girls over a meal at 1885 The Pub......... I've eaten here quite a number of times and I can honestly say I've never had a bad meal unfortunately I can't say the same about the service I received especially from the owner ......... It's as though you are a inconvenience to him and he's very abrupt, he makes you feel very uncomfortable, it's as though he can't be bothered and begrudges you turning up to his pub. Though the food is very good I don't think I'll be returning the whole dining experience is about the food and service and one shouldn't be compromised for the other .

1885 has a restaurant, a pub and some stylish rooms for B&B - all are really lovely. We went to the restaurant on boxing day and have returned. Service good and yet relaxed, food sumptuous and ambiance just about perfect. The same can be said for the pub next door, obviously more relaxed and more family friendly and a bit cheaper, but the food remains the same high quality and the service still excellent. To give you an idea of cost in the pub it's about £50 for three main courses (and you really don't want much more!) including a couple of drinks each. My friend from Canada stayed in the rooms and thought they too were were really nice. The breakfast let it down a bit and she wasn't that impressed but hey I'm scraping the barrel to find anything negative. Definitely worth a visit and if you want to stay somewhere good near to Halifax then go there.

Stayed here with my partner and we had a fantastic stay. Meal was lovely, staff and food was lovely and the accommodation was lovely. Beds really comfortable and the breakfast was presented nicely in a basket. We had a lovely stay and will definitely be back.

Pub food how it should be, wholesome, hot, good sized portions and friendly staff. Went on New Years Eve afternoon and my wife and I had two drinks each, mains, sweets and coffee for £40 and we were full. Definitely going back soon.

Went for a family celebration, as usual the staff were superb. Most of our food was excellent, however, the fish pie left everything to be desired, watery sauce, looked most unappetising. When mentioned, this was taken on board and the cost removed from the bill. I think this was just a small hiccup at an otherwise superb venue.

Myself and my partner visited 1885 on 6th December 2014. We were both impressed with the place, food and staff. Very welcoming when we 1st arrived, great atmosphere and amazing food!We both had the roast chicken and it was very nice! and great valueWell worth a visit!! and we will definitely be going again.

A very nice and clean bar, restaurant and small hotel. The selection of beers although not extensive was very good. I did not eat here but after seeing the food that was being served to the tables and the comments from the recipients I certainly will next time.The bedroom was excellent, good facilities good size lovely comfortable bed and a great bathroom and shower and very reasonably priced, I will definitely stay here again in fact I am next week.

We love this themed night. We returned with our friends again for this themed night. We all loved the experience. As usual the food was excellent. The regular staff were the usual friendly selves serving our food professionally. The Beaujolais wine was amazing. We are now waiting for next year's themed evenings events so that we can make our bookings.

Pleasant setting, comfortable restaurant, attentive waitresses who all had a smile.Living social deal, 2 x 7 course tasting menus for £60.Disappointing start with an amuse bouche of a mushroom pastry, pleasant but not overly exciting.All savoury courses that followed were lovely and well worthy of a high rating, the tuna was by far the stand out course for me. Scallops and a brave duck main (not to everyone's taste) were also highlights. Very disappointing dessert, really looked forward to the banana tarte tatin, but it's preparation lacked, with not particularly pleasant pastry that appeared to have been cooked separately to the banana. A well selected cheese board finished things off where the accompanying pickled grapes were oddly moreish!!!5 out of 7 very good dishes isn't bad though and for the price there were no complaints.A £17 Pinot Grigio was good and I felt this too was good value. Generally a super meal with a couple of points for improvement. At this price I would certainly return.

We had a meal here (at the pub) on Saturday night, we had reserved a table so were shown to it straight away. Although the pub was busy we ordered and the food arrived promptly. I have Bruscheta starter and Scampi & chips and my husband had piri-piri chicken starter and pork chop main (from the grill special board).I enjoyed the food, however my husbands looked amazing and he said it tasted fantastic.Prices were reasonable and would reccommend

We have been to the restaurant twice now and have really enjoyed the food and the service both times. You do pay a bit more, but in my opinion you get what you pay for. Great a a special treat!

This restaurant, attached to the pub of the same name (1885 The Pub), is a supurb dining experience all round - no negatives at all. Wonderful staff, setting, food etc. Not cheap but you definitely get what you pay for.It's where I always ask to go when I'm being treated. Good parking too.

We had another enjoyable visit with our friends to their themed "Game Night". We all ordered different meal selections and they all proved excellent which we enjoyed with a great bottle of wine. As ever the atmosphere and ambiance along with the service is first class. It is nice to be served by the regular professional friendly staff.

We went on Friday 24th October and had a truly great experience.I've been a few times before & each time the service, food & ambiance have been second to none. I can't fault the place.The restaurant is laid out well with room to breath between tables which, even when full, makes for a more private dining experience.There were a number of menu options to choose from, all reasonably priced. I had a la carte & my partner went for prixe fixe. This visit we skipped the starters & went for a main course & sweet. I asked for medium rare venison & it was cooked perfectly. The portion size was very generous. Both sweets were delicious & presented extremely professionally.We will certainly be going back again & again & I recommend it to all my friends.

A group of us came on Saturday for lunch we ordered from the pub menu and the food was excellent I had the Buffalo Mozzarella and goats cheese salad it was devine lots of flavour and lots of walnuts and hazlenuts, another friend had the moussaka and that too was excellent. I then had the berry crumble and custard again it was delicious. I'm looking forward to eating hear again and would recommend it. Will try the restaurant next time.

Came to the 1885 with a group of four and thought we would see if we could eat in the restaurant on a busy Saturday night, even though we hadn't booked. We walked in to a full and buzzing restaurant and we're told there was unfortunately no tables available however we would be able to eat in the pub, which serves the same menu so this wasn't an issue for us. On our arrival we were greeted by smiling, friendly staff and we're shown menus as we ordered drinks. All of us ordered starters which were on our table within 5 minutes. I ordered the risotto to start and it was cooked to perfection. After we had finished our plates were cleared and our mains arrived shortly afterwards. Everything was excellent, everybody got what they ordered and it all tasted and looked amazing. By the end we were all too full for deserts but seeing other tables who managed to fight through the food barrier and order some they all looked fantastic. We will definitely save room for them next time. It's worth a mention that throughout the night the atmosphere was brilliant and even though the pub was heaving all the staff were smiling away and carrying on in a very professional manner. Would massively recommend this place and can't wait to return. Although next time we will make sure we book. Keep up the excellent work guys.

It only few minutes away from my house but I've only been here for drinks. It's slightly expensive for drinks but worth calling in to see what it's like. Quite a lot of locals go in.

Eaten here twice recently and cannot find fault good choice of food, friendly staff, speedy service and delicious food which are huge portions :-) can't wait to return

Our first visit here was with friends and there were 6 of us, we hadn't booked as we were told we didn't need to. We waited a long time for our food and the waitress wasn't very sociable, we asked for some more drinks to be brought to our table and were told that we had to get our own but then 10 minutes later delivered a tray full of drinks to the table next to us. We found it expensive for what we ordered. It seems to be a place where regulars go and they seem to get preferential treatment.

This is the second time that we have seen Elvis at this restaurant. This is one of the best nights entertainment that we have see. "Elvis" worked very hard doing three slots with short breaks to allow us to eat our food. He is amazing with a fantastic voice. The food was up to 1885's usual high standard served by the friendly professional staff. We will definitely return.

Visited on 22/08/14 with a family group of 6. Excellent service, very pleasant restaurant and ambience. It was meant to be a treat from me for my family. My family enjoyed the parma ham and main course lamb and fish. However I drew the short straw with my scallops starter and pork belly main course from the grill. 3 rather uninspiring scallops with 3 battered whitebait was followed by a crescent of pork belly which looked as though it had been deep fried. It was hard and chewy with no crunchy crackling. Not wanting to spoil the occasion I didn't send it back, but commented on my disappointment to the waitress after my plate was removed. The vegetables served with other guest's meals looked rather sparse, just one and a half new potatoes plus a few greens. I received apologies from the chef (via the waitress, ) (twice) but no other compensation (e.g. free pud!) This restaurant is known to be quite expensive, but I recommend a careful study of the menu before ordering! If you guess right you could be quite pleased with it.
