I came across this place by chance during one of my travels and was pleasantly surprised. The food was much cheaper compared to what I usually find in London and Cambridge, yet the quality and quantity weren’t compromised. The service was excellent, and the staff were super friendly. Overall, I’m really happy with my experience at this place.

An absolute gem of an establishment. I’ve not been in over 20 years when my parents used to take me, and just this weekend I took my parents plus my family. The food was perfect, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. We had a 1700 reservation on a Saturday evening and the atmosphere was just prefect, the right amount of people. It wasn’t quiet and it wasn’t packed out, it was just prefect. We had a table for 6, and from one table to another it’s very spacious, you aren’t on top of each other which is great. Lovely bar, open fire. I will be visiting again shortly with my family as we enjoyed it that much however I think I will also drop by on the motorbike one time when the opportunity arises. I should also note the menu is available to view online which is excellent, with all the prices listed. Great parking and great for disabled access.

I have been to the Sun Inn numerous times and have never been disappointed with the service or the food. However, last week they did something I am not comfortable with. I went with a group and we ordered and paid for our food at the bar prior to taking a seat. However, at the end of the ordering process the lady taking the booking turned the screen to us and asked what tip we'd like to add before paying. Call me old fashioned, but I like to experience the service and food prior to considering whether to tip or not. I really hope they don't continue with this practice.

We moved to the area over a year ago (from the USA) and have enjoyed visiting a range of country pubs. Having been to quite a few now, we absolutely love The Sun Inn. They’ve got it all…great atmosphere, great location, dog friendly, great food (lots of menu options), friendly service and excellent prices. On that last point, the value is exceptional. It’s understood that many pubs have had to increase their prices to stay afloat, but The Sun Inn manage to keep it very reasonable. Great job Sun Inn and we look forward to many more visits!

Love coming here for family meals. Food always tastes amazing and hot and is so filling. Most recent visit was Friday 5th and it was really busy, busier than we've ever seen before, and there was quite a wait for the food (50 minutes). The carrots were quite undercooked (for everyone), and my custard was very runny for my dessert, and my cokes were both flat, but it was still absolutely amazing and I INHALED all of it. Cosy vibes but the fire can make it smell quite unpleasant which you don't want when you're eating. Staff super friendly and welcoming!

This place is about as authentic as you can get for a traditional country pub. The whole place oozes character and has a relaxing, homely atmosphere. The location is great, with several reservoir walks nearby. There's ample parking outside, along with a beer garden and a few benches. Inside, lighting is quite low and natural. Most walls are stone and characterful. There are a few open fires dotted around the rooms. There's a pool table in one room. Service was friendly and welcoming. We ordered at the bar, where there was an option to tip on the payment console. The food was good, kind of cheap and cheerful based on what we ordered (scampi, burger, chips). I have visited before, and do know the homemade dishes are very good. Other reviewers have highlighted this. I'll happily be returning.

Called in here after a walk around Fewston reservoir, and it was fantastic. It looks great from the outside and doesn't disappoint inside, it's a proper pub. I was fascinated by the history and the ladies behind the bar were knowledgeable about it. The original 18th century part is well maintained and large extension to the rear is well within keeping of the original style. There are some fantastic old photos on the wall too, well worth a look. Called in with my young family and the staff were really friendly and accommodating for my young family. The menu is perfect, exactly what you'd want from a British Pub, not trying to be anything it isn't and missing the mark but doing good British pub food. It delivered too! Food arrived quickly which was helpful with impatient little ones. The steak pie was incredible, big portion, full of tender meat and rich gravy. My wife had fish cakes which she said were really good, and kids were happy with theirs. Nice choice of beers too, Timothy Taylor's enough said, went perfectly with steak pie. It was also really pleasantly surprising in a pub like this to have such forward thinking baby changing options; separate toilet just for this, with creams, wipes etc provided in case you didn't have your own. Left very satisfied and looking forward to returning soon. Well done to all staff, and don't change or lose the fantastic identify and product you have that so many others don't.

Staying locally to the pub, booked this specific pub as it was dog friendly. Booked a table via the online booking system and said dogs were part of our party (there's yes or no question on the online form as to whether you have dogs with you) We were met by a waitress who did seem quite flustered. She told me our table was in the non dog friendly section, and I didn't put anywhere we had dogs. When I check my booking email, it says that I put Yes to the question, do you have dogs. She kept repeating that we hadn't booked a table with dogs. We decided to leave in the end, as we heard the waitress say to another member of staff "they definitely didn't book a table with dogs". Appreciate it could have been a busy evening for the pub, but really poor customer service. It was the constant repetition from the waitress that we hadn't booked a table with dogs that made us walk away.

Mao's Thai take away was a massive treat, but due to conflict between landlord and tenant closed now, a real shame.

Lovely staff--nothing too much trouble. Tried a cake similar to a fat rascal but more moist with lots of almonds/pistachios.

Service was really good. I asked for recommendations and was told the lamb shank was really nice. So I went with that and they were right. Came with mash, vegetables and mint gravy. Being from Manchester I'd have liked a little more gravy. But this was amazing. The meat fell of the bone, not to much fat which was a bonus. My wife ordered a steak, like she always does, and sometimes finds as issue.. not on the occasion which says alot. Definitely be visiting again. Only half another away from Manchester. The food alone makes the trip worth it.

Quite dissappinting that there are no gluten free options on the menu. I didn't expect gluten free pancakes as I know it may be hard to ensure no cross contamination but it would have been nice if they had some gluten free cakes instead. Their solution was that I could make my own meal off the menu using any ingredients which were gluten free or a salad. Which was pretty much a cooked breakfast with no bread or a salad which I didn't fancy in the morning!
