Mao's Thai take away was a massive treat, but due to conflict between landlord and tenant closed now, a real shame.

Excellent customer service and delicious fish and chips.

Very delicious fish and chips, the price is right, and many local residents come to buy it. The boss is very enthusiastic and there is no place in the store, but she I was given a chair to sit down and eat.

I’m a regular visitor to Aragon. The chips are always tasty and scraps always available. I tried the homemade spring rolls with sweet chilli sauce today which were absolutely delicious, very impressed and would like to see some other Asian dishes on the menu for something different.

For many years and after many changes of owners, we have always considered Aragon Fisheries to be the very best in Knaresborough, however after visiting this evening 06/08/21, sadly we no longer consider it to be the best. The chips that were of any reasonable size, were very dry, the rest of the chips were very small, and hard, and sad to say crunchy, more like scraps. The fish batter was nothing like it used to be, it was flat, not in any way crisp, as the fish batter always used to be used to be. While we fully accept that potatoes at this time of year are not the best for making chips, the chips today were by far the worst we have had in Knaresborough in many years. What a shame the quality from this fish and chip shop has declined so much, so quickly, since changing hands.

All cooked beautifully, we had fish n chips , battered sausage, curry sauce and mushy peas. Fish was large n golden, crispy and fish moist, v tasty. Big fat chips, crispy on outside, soft potato inside. Every thing was perfect and the portions were very generous. Staff very friendly, thank you 🙏

Must say very disappointed chips soggy and batter on fish far to thick and not cooked enough. The staff sre very pleasant but your going to have to step up if you want repeat customers. Previous owners were amazing bring back there standards.

Efficient service. Good portions. Really good fish. Only disappointment was that chips were lukewarm. In the description it says cash only but they do take credit cards. Popular with the locals. Very good value.

Bought today,the food was very cold,worse fish and chips we have had from there,will give them one more try as this could have been a one off.Will request the frier to make sure that they hot and not luke warm.

Don't normally leave reviews, but feel I must on this occasion, been to Knaresborough a few times and was recommended drakes fisheries but to be honest wasn't overly impressed the few times we visited, so we decided to try Aregon fisheries, and I have to say I'm glad we did, it is one of the best fish and chips we have eaten over the years, the owners were really friendly and the prices were very reasonable £5.30 and its a fair old portion as well. Definitely go there from now on.

We're locals and we've been to all the chip shops around town - Aragon is the best taste, price & service by far. If you're visiting and want to taste real Yorkshire fish, sausage, chicken & chips, this is the place to go!

First time visiting Aragon Fisheries, our first thoughts were, wow the customer service is amazing! Very friendly owners. Took our chicken, sausage and chips to the castle and my goodness was it yummy!! 😊 Lovely and fresh! Fantastic portion sizes for the money as well! Highly recommended.

We had fish and chips from Aragon Fisheries on Friday evening 14/03/2020, a very unlucky day its said, but not for us, the we had the pleasure of the usual fabulous large portions of fish and chips, which as always were mouth wateringly good, a very welcome treat for both my wife , myself, and our granddaughter.

The best fish and chip shop in Knaresborough by a country mile. The fish is fresh and beautifully battered and it’s such a friendly place too

Early evening dinner of fish and chips takeaway, very good gf batter which was reasonably crispy, chips and mushy peas, salt and gf vinegar, spot on. Served by a cheerful lady. If you require gluten free you need to phone before they open to ensure the batter is made up, the fish is cooked in a separate fryer so there's minimal risk of cross contamination. No nasty affects afterwards, great stuff. The only down side is the short opening hours and only open 4 days a week.

The batter was to thick and the fish was tasteless, even the chips were white in colour and soggy

I visited here with my husband and 3 children this week. We were visiting Mother Shiptons and staying overnight. I was diagnosed coeliac in February and havent eaten out or had take away since then. I was too worried about contamination and anxious about asking and feeling awkward. We needed to keep costs down being a family of 5 and didnt want to go to any fancy restaurants for gluten free. You cant beat fish & chips to eat at the park! I had sought advice from coeliac groups on facebook and a few people recommended a certain fish & chip shop in Knaresborough & Harrogate. But when I messaged them they told me although the batter was gluten free, it was cooked in the same oil as gluten food. This is not suitable for coeliacs! I found Aragon Fisheries by searching TripAdvisor. I messaged them via facebook on the morning we were setting off and got a prompt reply by a lovely lady who told me that their gluten free fish was cooked separately to non gluten. Also the mushy peas and vinegar are gluten free. I put in my order and was told I would be added to the gluten free board and to let her know when I was in the queue. I cant tell you how relieved I was! When we got there that evening the place was so busy and it seemed there were lots of regulars. A real friendly atmosphere. Another lady came in whilst we were there for gluten free also. We got our orders closed and ate them on a picnic blanket in the park. My fish was so nice I worried at one point that Id got mixed up with my sons lol The chips were lovely too. Thank you so much. Please note that you need to contact them and give a little notice when you are going and what sort of time.

A regular haunt when visiting the area at the right time of day. Great freshly fried fish with excellently cooked chips. They always know where the fish has been sauced from and always tell me without having to ask.

Best Chipper in town, no questions asked. If you can catch this place open, its worth double anything else locally. Fresh and crispy every time!

Been coming here since I was a wee boy and the owners are the most lovely pair you will ever meet. The chips and Curry sauce are always magnificent and will fill you up for sure.Only problem would be you have to pick a right time to go as it's usually closed when I walk by

They just do it right here. Perfect crisp batter, generous portions, efficient service despite there always being a queue (because they're so popular in the town). The only problem is that they aren't open as much as some of the others, so you have to time it right. But SO worth it.

Good range to choose from on the menu and everything was cooked to order. Hot, fresh and delicious. Lovely owners who seem to know their customers very well. Will be back.

Just drove from wakefield to knaresborough based on the reviews. They are open till 7.30? Why are they closed then? Can't rate them for the food obviously so this rating is for the 70 mile round trip of dissapointment! 😠

Second week running I have enjoyed a very good meal. Only downside is that they are only open on Thursday and Friday in the evening but I suppose that is better for my figure.

Escondido en una calle lateral, este es el mejor pescado y patatas fritas en Knaresborough. Vamos cada semana para llevar. Los propietarios son muy amables y siempre hay un poco de una línea, pero solo te dice lo bueno que es. La línea nunca es demasiado largo y la comida es preparada a la orden.

Not to be beaten. Really look forward to my regular Friday night treat. Don't normally write reviews but Aragon deserve to have some of my time in return for their great food and customer service. Now can I have bigger portions Brian? Ha Ha.

Hemos tenido algún buen pescado y patatas este año y el año pasado, después de Aragón tenía algo para vivir. No nos decepcionó. Más eglefino y patatas fritas. . Buen pescado. y las patatas fritas en mi opinión eran mejores que hemos tenido. No puedo quejarme de los precios y te irá bien para tomar pescado y patatas fritas para mejor bajo un fiver. Bonito floury breadcakes y el servicio muy amable. Volveremos pronto.

Asked for Haddock and chips and was suprised to find id been given cod.The Fish wasnt fresh and had been in the warmer too long.The batter was far too thick and sickly.Suprised by this as last time we had fish and chips they were very good.

visited this fish n chip shop whilst on holiday. Family run take away and so warm and friendly. The fish n chips were amazing. The portions were huge. Our 95 year old gran doesn't normally have a big appetite but the fish was that delicious she ate the whole lot. She even commented on how fresh the fish was. Certainly visit again

My daughter and I decided to a little gastro tour of Yorkshire when I went up to collect her from Leeds Uni and see her Degree Show. I'd heard about this place before and being a former fishmonger in London, we just had to check it out. We were running late so we called ahead and spoke to one of the owners (Sue) who said that they would wait for us to arrive and serve us even after closing time. I'm so glad they did because we ended up having a lovely (huge!)lunch of haddock, twice-cooked chips and mushy peas, washed down with lemonade and cream soda, sitting in our car right outside the chip shop! We also had a nice chat with Sue and Brian who advised us where to go after lunch to see the scenic riverside views of Knaresborough. It's definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.

I have to say after visiting the guys yesterday after a short absence that the fish and chips are still amazing. Gorgeous milky fish, crisp batter, awesome chips and of course the obligatory scraps. Why go to the likes of Whitby and Scarborough when the taste of the sea is right here on the doorstep. Thanks Sue and Brian still the best for miles around

Delicious takeaway on Good Friday. Haddock and chips are to die for and this place is definitely worth a visit.

Day out to Knaresborough on a sunny Good Friday. We had already checked on line to see who was open so glad we chose Aragon. The large haddock with the tasty crispy batter accompanied by a good portion of chips and scraps if required freshly cooked.Steady stream of customers proved it was a good 'chippy'.We happily perched on upturned buckets.Well worth looking for.

Visited on a truly filthy day but forgot all about the bad weather when tucking into our fish and chips. Good portion size - nice batter - excellent flaky haddock and good chips. Had eaten here during the summer - probably a solid 7 out of 10 but Saturday's was a definite 9. A little surprised you don't offer a larger special but perfectly satisfied and will return for a third visit.

Extremely disappointed that after travelling for gluten free fish and chips they did not have gf batter available Friday teatime. We should have rung before hand. No consolation for my husband who only had a bag of chips for his tea!

Been the best F&C in knaresborough for 20 years. Enough said. The fish is fresh and the batter not too heavy. If you want a fish special make sure you order it on entry (just shout over the queue).

I saw a post on social media celebrating the success of Aragon Fisheries and further to that a Trip Advisor review mentioning gluten-free batter, giving me good reason to give it a try. I am so pleased I did. The fish, gluten-free batter and chips with gluten-free vinegar were all outstanding and I would go as far to say the best I have ever sampled. I'm feeling so smug this is local to me and am planning to have a monthly habit. The staff (and customers as it happens) were exceptionally friendly and obliging. Just be aware you do need to give half a day's notice for gluten-free batter, but you can ring this in for convenience. The fish was beautiful. What more can I say - just try it yourselves. I have to add this is the most glowing review I have written and I can be very reserved in my comments normally.

Wherever i go in the uk, i like to try the local fish and chips and I stumbled upon Drakes which looked too high street so i checked TA and found this place, a more traditional chippy just off the beaten track. I read that the owner is arrogant but that didn't bother me. i wanted proper fish and chips.I managed to find it just before it shut. I was served by a woman who was very friendly and when i told her i found them through TA she said all the bad reviews are from when the husband is serving. he was in the background frying but was joking away. cod doesn't seem to be available in any chippy here so i had to have haddock. it was very nice, cooked to order. chips were good as were the peas. it was a huge portion but i got through them. i haven't tried any others in the area but this place is recommended!

Good old fashioned fish and chips. Thin crispy batter, luscious white fish and the best chips ever. The couple who own and run it obviously know a thing or two about this great British dish. I would recommend to anyone wanting fast food as it should be.

I have recently started getting my fish and chips from here as I discovered they offer gluten-free batter and are much closer to home to where I had been going. I have found some establishments struggle to work with gluten-free batter often overcooking to achieve a golden batter and you get an inconsistent product. Not here, each fish I have had has been moist and been covered with a consistently delicious and crisp batter. The chips are also some of the best I've tasted.The only negative I would say are the limited opening hours and you have to phone before they open to pre-order the gluten free, but this just means I have to be organised and plan ahead.

Not only do they know where the amazing fish comes from, which is landed and delivered from Peterhead fish market the best UK Port for British Fish!!! They also source potatoes from a field just a stones throw from the shop, amazing service matched by amazing food...it's perfect!!

I usually go to Drakes in Knaresborough which is consistently good but opted for Aragon Fisheries for a change. During term time it is very busy with students from the nearby King James School getting their lunches so try and avoid school lunch hour if you want to avoid the queue !Regular Haddock at £3.30 and chips at £1.30 freshly cooked piping hot and delicious , I have a hearty appetite but struggled with the huge helping and they do an extra large haddock which should be a challenge if the size of the regular haddock was anything to go by.

One of the best fish and chip establishments in Yorkshire I place a an order with these guys every fortnight which is always ready and waiting. The service is of the highest standard with banter thrown in for free from both Brian and Sally. Having just moved to Knaresborough from Harrogate, we've always struggled to find good Fish and Chips, then when we think we have, we'd have a bad one.. They we discovered this place. First tried this place back in June, and WOW they are awesome.. Last night I ordered 3 Fish and Chips and couple of battered Sausages which would be shared between 4 of us.. They were supurb, Kids commented how amazing they were, This is simply the best we have ever had. as for the owners what a lovely couple, If you have a bad day drop in, they will probably cheer you up.. I'm hooked and will not use anywhere else now... Unbelievalby good, I've told almost everyone I've met today !

Having heard good reviews about this place I decided to start using them rather than drakes as the excellent food was well worth the extra 5 minutes walk from drakes. Unfortunately on 3 occasions the man behind the counter was very rude to me, once clicking his fingers and pointing at me saying "you! Yes you! " when my food was ready, another time snarling at me when I wanted salt and vinegar and the final straw was when I placed a food order where once again he was very rude to me. Great shame that I refuse to use aragon again as the fish was the best I had ever come across and the batter was unique in the sense that it totally covers the fish without flaking away, but all in all I will not go to a place where I am treat with great hostility. Should be re-named "Arrogant" rather than Aragon

This is one of the best fish&chips shops I have been to. The portions are big and you get excellent value for money. The service is average pace but it does depend how big the queue is. I would highly recommend going to get your tea or dinner from this place. 5*

Superb quality Fish & Chips, friendly service. Also the option of gluten-free batter, you do however need to order that in advance. Would be nicer if they were open more frequently, although their opening times are posted on Facebook. Well worth trying and I highly recommend them.

Fish cooked to order, large or standard haddock, lovely, batter crisp not thick and soggy. chips hot and not bitty or greasy, friendly staff. First class, must be one of the best in Yorkshire. Top marks all round and you can park outside for 30 mins or if you are lucky a few little tables inside.

The owner I presume a very pleasant man who asks every time how you would like your fish cooking and goes about his job in a very professional manner.The lady server is just the most wonderful and friendly Yorkshire lady you could meet ..always a smile But the fish and chips are gorgeous and take you back to the times when fish and chips were sacred

The queue was huge therefore indicating this place was popular (it was fri tea time) we waited about 10 mins but it was worth the wait. Fish was lovely and it was a huge portion (we couldn't finish) and the chips were yummy too and cooked in decent oil. Definitely be returning :D

This has got to be the best traditional fish & chip shop in Yorkshire. Be prepared to wait for your fish as it is cooked to order. Though the wait is definitely worth it. The friendly banter with the owners helps pass the time nicely whilst building up an appetite for the frying feast. First class fish & chips and service.

Service was very good and chips yummy but the fish was a bit overcooked and not really lightly battered we had asked for. All in all only average for a chip shop.

Not the easiest place to find if you are not from the town, but easily the best fish and chips in Knaresborough. Excellent portions and the chips and fish are cooked to perfection. Friendly family-run place too. Other fish and chip shops in Knaresborough can be hit and miss with one in particular serving meagre portions of expensive and poorly cooked chips with rude staff. This is what makes Aragon a breath of fresh air - it is everything it should be, and if you can find it, it is well worth a visit. It's only a couple of minutes walk out of the town centre.

Friendly, welcoming owners. Excellent fish and chips. Everything tastes and looks fresh. Portions are generous and the fish (unlike quite a few fish and chip shops) hasn't been soaked in water for ages to make it appear bigger. Small shop and if you have to queue it is worth it.

I am so glad I came across this fish and chips shop on Tripadvisor as it is one of the best fish and chips i have ever tasted. Such a shame its just a little out of the centre of the town as people may not know about it but they should!It is so hard to find a chip shop where the fish and batter are both cooked beautifully, Aragon certainly has. Even better the service was top notch. Wish they were based in Manchester as I would go every week!

I am a regular customer at this brilliant establishment. After trying what else is on offer in the way of fish and chips in knaresborough Aragon Fisheries is by far the best! The service was fast and fantastic, the food was incredible! Brian and Sally treat every customer individually and they even remember my order when I go in now!
