The Suburbs in Cheshire West and Chester

We visited The Suburbs after we had eaten at kingdoms restaurant ( The Yard) . The cocktails, ambience and staff were fabulous. This is the best cocktail bar in Chester without a doubt. Thanks to the staff ( Hannah, Viv, Tom, Olivia and Roman) who made our night one to remember.

Couldn’t recommend more highly. The food was delicious, impeccable service, child and dogs friendly venue, great drinks and excellent value for money. The interior is decorated beautifully and the staff look after you. We all really enjoyed our food and thought it was excellent value for money. If you are considering visiting then don’t think twice! You won’t be disappointed.

Josh made the best margarita and loaded fries I ever had. New favourite place I think!

It was extremely busy on the night of switching on of Xmas lights so it took quite a long time to get served. Landlord was amazing juggling so many orders and remembering everything. Didn't wat there but the cocktails were great!

Ask Kingdom to make you a drink!

Came at 11:45 Saturday night as the website stated they closed at 1. Was offered ‘one for the road’ then they turned the light on in hopes we’d leave - not happy

When we arrived the staff were very friendly, lovely to walk into such a warm welcome. The decor is pretty terrible though with tacky love signs, ram skulls and cushions free from gin promoters. The new cocktail menu sounds lovely, but one of the two we ordered was disappointing with no balanced flavours, ingredients which seemed missing and a limp piece of basil. The other cocktail was very enjoyable, but difficult to drink.

Shocking , when we paid our bill and realised we had unknowingly give a £6.00 tip. They called it a service charge and because people mostly pay by card now. They decided it’s easier for the customer this way. We didn’t even receive any service, we were sat at the bar. They also say they give some to charity. Well personally I’ll choose my own charities. Won’t be going there again. There’s a very nice new craft beer place round the corner 👍🏼

We always love coming. Drinks were amazing but it does need a little lift (would love to see more people come!). Ran out of almost all white wine and draft beer which saw a few people leave. Hope to see it back to its old ways as we love it here normally

Booked for birthday celebration. Initial confusion over pre-ordering due to new menu but quickly sorted by Kingdom. On the day, staff were great, really welcoming and couldn’t do enough for you, frequently checking in for more drinks etc. Food was incredible. Definitely plan on return visit!

WOW, how this venue has fallen from grace. Having frequented the Suburbs for years and enjoyed the drinks and excellent food my experience this evening was shocking. We booked dinner in the Suburbs for our wedding anniversary. The service was so slow it took an hour to get a wine menu, which we had to request 3 times, only to be told they don't have a wine menu. The waitress finally asked the bar staff what wines they stocked, as she didn't know, and we received a bottle of wine with an apology. The food menu, once a delight, now resembles a cheap diner. Our food (burgers) arrived after a further hour, which came with incorrect sides. The burger itself was okay, but not worth £15. The manager did come over to apologise and explained that the food has been 'outsourced' and it is the first night with the new menu and Staff. The manager stated that the food and drinks would be free due to waiting for over 2 hours. There were six other tables eating in the restaurant, every table complained about the service, with one table walking out. When settling the bill the wine had been removed but not the food. So much for the manager promising nothing would be charged and to really take the P*** they charged a compulsory 10% service charge!! Kingdom, what have you done to the place??!! My previous review... 5 Star..This bar / restaurant is a real gem in Hoole. The food is outstanding and the drinks menu is extensive.... especially the cocktails! With social distancing measures in place it is a great time to book a table as the tables are well spaced and the table service was great. A must visit if you're in the area, or a cracking local for those living in Hoole! Now I would unfortunately say avoid.

Lovely Sunday roast, very tasty chicken and beef. Good selection of veg and delicious yorkies. Good service too.

This could be the best Sunday Dinner in Chester! Without a doubt one of our favourite haunts for Sunday lunch/dinner! We visited again today and were delighted with the service and standard of the food. The portions are HUGE! The kids portions are also outstanding! Can't wait to come back again soon! :-)

Went for mother's day and menu was very small and not much choice for somebody who doesn't eat meat. Only thing on offer was a "cauliflower steak" The bottomless prosecco or mamosas were for if you had a meaty roast dinner! So had the halloumi chips and then left for the chip shop as we were starving. Please next year think of us Non meat eaters, we like a drink too.

It was my 1st time coming to the suburbs and I definitely will come back , I was greeted with a smile and the hospitality was amazing .

First visit and likely to be the last. Ordered the flat iron steak, arrived cold with cold fries, rings etc. They took away to reheat and returned but still not hot. Plates were stone cold so whatever heat in the food was soon dissipated. Meat tough and we both left > half. Quite obvious that we had not enjoyed but no offer of refund etc.

Excellent service, we had theThenga Thursday sharer. I loved the sauces and the onion rings especially! House red was lovely and we enjoyed the desserts.

Went on Sunday for mothers day. the service was a bit slow but as it was mothers day it was to be expected. The staff were brilliant with the kids and kept checking in on them. Ashlee was superb keeping us informed. when the food arrived it was fantastic and well worth the wait!

If you want to have a great time with good music, tasty food, nice drinks and fantastic cocktails you must go to The Suburbs in Chester. This a very strong bar with a great mixologist and the cocktail presentation is beautiful, although some of the alcohool is too good to mix. We had such a good time we found ourselves strolling back to it after our first visit. The service is very good making the guests feel that they are really been taken care of, and they are. The environment has interesting decorative touches and with the low lighting and great music, it is a very atmospheric space to spend time and enjoy yourselves. We went to celebrate 30 years of our relationship and ended up feeling 30 years younger.

Shared a superb fish platter with my wife karen, drank 5 great cocktails between us, the young lady who served us was very helpful. We had a great evening out here, highly recommended.

Horrific stay well clear! 1 hour to make brunch without any word from the waiters. It turns up with burnt slices of hovis instead of sourdough, burger bun tops instead of muffins, Heinz baked beans instead of chakalaka beans, and co-op guacamole instead of smashed avocado… the audacity of the waiters to plonk that down without any mention in the hope we won’t notice. Pathetic!

Great value bottomless brunch - highly recommend the south African breakfast

I visited here recently with my partner for part of her birthday celebrations. We were slightly late for our booking so I called ahead to advise staff accordingly. They were very understanding and warmly welcomed us on arrival. This is a superb venue, well situated and is presented very well. We had the prosecco bottomless brunch with eggs benedict and eggs royale, both of which were delicious. Jaime served us and was exceptional throughout. Attentive whilst giving us space, we were very well looked after for the duration of our visit. We'll definitely be back again soon, thank you for making our visit very pleasant indeed.

I very much like the Suburbs food is fantastic attentive friendly staff nice decor dog friendly it ticks all my boxes however I had a small meal the other night food as usual fantastic,as I was driving I opted for a coke to drink now here is the disappointing bit don’t know if it came out of a can or bottle or if it was the squirty stuff it was served in a small glass that was topped up the top of the glass with ice cubes a twist of lime and two straws one stuck and the entire coke was gone there was no were near a full can of coke in the glass yes it looked very posh and nice but at £2.65 it was not to put a too finer point to it a rip off Would of expected something like that in the American bar of the savoy but in hoole really if it came out of a can or bottle then it should of been brought to the table for me to top up the glass I have absolutely no issue with food or other drinks ie beer etc but you need to be aware of this

Excellent, Excellent, Excellent I can't speak highly enough of the Suburbs, a wonderful bar whose cocktails cannot be beaten. We had an amazing experience at the venue for my wife's birthday. We did the cocktail masterclass which is hosted in the private bar area upstairs, the class was fantastic & lots of fun. As part of the package you have an arrival drink & a selection of canapes which were delicious. The cherry on the cocktail cake are the staff, just bloody awesome. If you live or are visiting Chester check out suburbs, it won't disappoint. P.S Try Kingdoms Gin

I was very pleased after my first visit with friends to this venue. The atmosphere was very welcoming, and the staff gave their full attention, especially Jordan. Nothing was too much trouble when I was asking for further information about the various items on the menu.

I have been visiting this wine bar for a year or so, and cannot fault it. The ambience hits you in the face as soon as you walk through the door. The genuinely friendly staff will greet you and help you to choose a table, with a real welcome. At different times of day it seems to have different vibes, and they are always good. Lunchtime tends to be Yummy Mummies taking a break from their little dahlings, whereas in the evenings it attracts the sophisticated Cheshire set, of all ages, with very good reason. The management run this place as if it was their own, and the one time we had an issue with children running wild on a Sunday lunchtime, it was dealt with in a very professional and positive manner that reinforced my belief in this local jewel. This bar would not be out of place in a top ski resort. There is a hidden gem, and I am slightly reluctant to share it for fear that it will get too busy, but it really deserves these plaudits, so I will! Staff of note are Gemma and Ashlee, who has recently been promoted to be General Manager at the Croes Howell Bar Restaurant at Rossett, where I am sure she will do an equally excellent job. The food is also excellent and great value for the quality that is on offer. One of my favourite Chester venues, Eleven out of ten, all round. As they might say in Glasgow, 'Pure dead brilliant!'

Great food good drinks would recommend had the beetroot tartare and mac and cheese

Pros: Nice decor, great range of tasty cocktails, handy for a late drink. Cons: Only two draught beers and the quality didn't match the price imo, service extremely slow despite groups of staff chatting by the bar and 10% service charge to bring our drinks four paces from the bar (you can ask for it to be removed). Suggest waiting staff are trained/permitted to make the cocktails and short drinks if that is the bottleneck at busy times.

I visited the Suburbs with my significant other interestingly since lock down. The assistance was as immaculate and very inviting as usual! We had a sense of security consistently and plainly they take the actions expected to boost wellbeing for everybody truly. Incredible relaxed air, and the food was spectacular! I can't prescribe a visit to the Suburbs enough, one of Chester's secret diamonds.

Mixed emotions! Used Suburtbs a lot during lockdown for takeaway and the food was great, helped us through those tough times. So decided to physically go to there for the first time to eat in. Waited ages for a drink, and even longer for food. Didn't offer anything to compensate so left feeling like we had a poor night. Shame as we had come out to celebrate exam results.

Realy don’t appreciate a tip being added to my drinks bill, spoke to the manager and his attitude was awful, no wonder the place is empty most of the time and as for the basic cocktails they can not make them right.

Stopped here for some lunch and a few drinks last week, haven't visited for a while. The Eggs Royal came with just some chives sprinkled on top (not an eggs royal), it was all very cold, the muffin hadn't even been toasted and there was a skin forming on the hollandaise. Service was friendly but lacking. Cutlery wasn't provided, they mixed up milk and none dairy milk and one of the coffee cups had to be exchanged because it was marked with lipstick. It wasn't very busy with lots of staff around so I would expect standard's to be higher. Drinks were nice but overall we won't be rushing back.

We had an amazing meal and drinks @ the suburbs. Our server Bella was so friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble and she was excellent at recommending cocktails. It’s hard time for any business to navigate the guidelines and restrictions but the suburbs did this so well. The whole experience felt very safe but yet so enjoyable. Thank you to all the team that looked after us. We can’t wait to come back.

A new addition to Hoole apparently but suggested to us by our hotel as a good local eatery. It’s a bit quirky to look at and I must admit I wasn’t sure about it - although my son and his partner thought it looked pretty cool. There’s nothing quirky about the food though - interesting combos, large portions and really well cooked. My husband and I had a sharing plate which was massive but the quality of the meat was superb and it was cooked really well. Price-wise it was fine - not cheap or expensive but about right for what we had. My only slight reservation was the decor. The dark decor, furniture etc lends itself more to a winter destination when I would imagine it would feel really cosy - but in the summer it wasn’t quite right somehow. It didn’t detract from the food though - just my opinion.

Nice food but service is incredibly slow. When food takes over an hour to come out when they say they want the table back after an hour and a half it's not exactly fair. Been twice now and both when it's busy/quiet just seems like there's not enough staff on or lapses in looking after all tables in a timely manner spoil an otherwise wonderful meal

We only popped in here for a very quick drink before dinner elsewhere but were left disappointed. The venue and staff were fantastic, but the most important thing about a cocktail bar is the cocktails and in that regard we were left disappointed (and thirsty). The missus ordered her usual, a mojito, and there was virtually no drink in it at all. She's a lightweight when it comes to drinking so normally take ages to finish a drink but there was so much ice and so little actual liquid that it was gone in 2 sips and less than 2 mins. We were genuinely shocked that we were left with a massive glass still rammed full of ice, but no drink at all! We aren't drinking newbies, we know crushed ice is a key part of a mojito, but this was a joke. Unfortunately we were in a hurry for dinner by this point, so had to leave without challenging the staff, but The Surburbs seems like style over substance - venue and staff 5*, drinks 1*.

This is a great restaurant. Everything about it is fantastic. The food is amazing. The staff are amazing, service was brilliant. One of the best dining experiences I've had for a long time. And good value for money. Will definitely return. Highly recommended.
