Food is absolutely gorgeous chef is spot on with his food. Staff were lovely and made us feel welcome. We had 4 starters and every single plate was cooked to perfection. Steak and lamb for mains and again both meats we delicious. Will definitely be returning

Today went for lunch. My aubergine gratin had no cheese on it and my friends found their food was not very hot.

Went with friends to celebrate a birthday. Despite the pub being very quiet the service was poor. Waited ages for someone to take our order then waited 25-30 minutes for the food to come. Got the order wrong. When the food did come the food was very average. Got the bill and was over charged. Not impressed at all. Won’t be rushing back if not at all !

Lovely place, service was excellent. We were a group of 5 , 2 fussy eaters . I personally have been before and rated the pizzas highly. The 2 fussy eaters both love pizzas . Unfortunately we were told when we got seated there was no pizzas . Total disappointment!! I had the lamb with potatoes and veg £23.95 , I couldn't belive how small the portion was. I was still hungry 😩 after it. Very disappointed. Good quality 👌. Please up portion sizes.

Took our order and lost it so had to come retake it 30mins later to also tell us ran out of pizza dough should have left at this point, I had chicken burger which was poor!! other food was ok, can see why there was no one in there

No cask beer despite Doom Bar and Wainwright pump clips being on show. No reason given as to why fresh barrel couldn't be put on.

We called for lunch on the way home from a hospital appointment, we had our dog with us. Food was very nice but unfortunately we were overcharged and contacted the pub , they said someone would call us. We received no call, we rang again only to be told that the person was busy and would ring us back. Again no call back. Unfortunately it is incidents like this that mean we will not be going back as it is not difficult to ring back and rectify the issue. Customer service rubbish!!!!

Went out for lunch meal was excellent quality good value for money. We both had the burger and extra onion rings. One of the best burgers around.

The food was really beautiful and very plentiful. The staff were lovely, friendly and efficient. The only issue I have is that in parts it is a little run down which is a shame but generally the place was clean and very relaxed atmosphere.

Great pub quiz on Tuesdays hosted by Verity. Very good atmosphere and attention from all staff. Food is always good (vegan options and kids menu too)

The Eton mess was served with only cream no fruit or meringue but Emma was great and took away and sorted it.

Delicious food, great atmosphere & very friendly despite our hysterics

I visited the red lion today and ordered food, service was quick to start and the drinks were very quick, we ordered and the food came about 20 to 25 minutes later which I thought was very acceptable, my wife had steak pie and mash ( in her words it was lovely) I ordered a steak medium to well done with a side of garlic mushrooms, my chips and mushrooms were very good but unfortunately the steak was one of the toughest I’d ever had and it was rare to medium which I didn’t mind but it was impossible to chew, i tried 4 pieces from different parts of the steak to see if it was just an odd part but they were all the same so I left the rest of the steak on the side which was at least 95% of it ,I have steak at every occasion when eating out and in so many countries but This was by far the poorest, we stayed and had puddings which were very nice, at the end of our meal the lady that had serviced us told me that she’d applied discount for the steak which was £12 off the near £27 meal, in my opinion my meal had been ruined and therefore should have been totally wiped off the bill as a good will gesture, it’s unlikely that we will be going back unfortunately

All the staff are always helpful and friendly, Emma who has served us n a number of occasions, as she did on Saturday, always seems to go that extra mile which e really appreciated.

The food was lovely, emma was the lady who served us she was very welcoming definitely coming back again soon

Booked a table for 5 in the dog friendly area, got there hadn't reserved our table so put us in the bar area by the toilets and said we could have table service, brought our drinks and meals and that was it. Meal was average, 20 quid for Sunday roast. Nobody came to ask if the meal was okay or if we wanted more drinks. Asked for French mustard, told don't provide that in England, might have found it funny if service had been better. When clearing plates cleared 2 and didn't come back for the rest. odd. Toilets need a bit of a clean too, urinals out of order, only one cubicle, cobwebs hanging from the ceiling Low score due to poor service.

my server was a young man with his sleeves rolled up and a tattoo on his right arm, such a gentleman and had a good laugh even though we knew he was busy and had a lot of people to serve, we could hear people telling him to do different things yet he kept a smile whilst serving us, food was amazing and the atmosphere was just want we wanted on this day we will definitely be coming again 100%

Food was lovely we had 2 steaks and cheesy garlic mushrooms to start delicious, beef dripping sauce was amazing. Let downs were the scruffy toilet door to the ladies and staff gossiping about other staff which YES we could hear...very unprofessional!!

Went for lunch last week with my husband, son and granddaughter, aged 3 & three quarters. Husband had beef lasagne, small portion Son had lamb cutlet, really enjoyed Granddaughter had pasta in tomato sauce, nearly all eaten I had aubergine bake (I make this myself, have done for over 35 years) in a tomato sauce with cheese, I serve it with spaghetti and garlic bread, sorry to say, mine is better! Didn't feel like a full meal without the pasta. However, we had a lovely time, attentive, professional staff, fabulous pub, sat where we wanted as no booking for our table at the time. We would definitely eat here again. Have been before hence return, aware meal times can be very busy as very popular pub for dining. Thank you 👍

Lovely little pub in a nice location. Plenty of seating inside and out. Warm ambiance inside and great selection of food and drinks. Looking forward to stopping of there and recharging during my charity event in 2 weeks time.

We visit here fairly regularly and usually its fine but sadly this visit didn’t come up to scratch.Main meals were barely hot except for the chicken pie and we were never even asked if we wanted a dessert.Hope this was just an off night but we won’t be back for a good while as we expect better for the prices charged.Also the doors to the toilets are very scruffy .Just a coat of paint required.

2 of us ordered deep fried Brie - it arrived dressed with old dead leaves and was cold. Had expected it to be melted. One had pate which was liberally sprinkled with rock salt - she's on a low sodium diet as are many others. 2 of us had fush and chips. Have never been served with such an awful meal. The batter was disgustingly thick and eggy and the only way we could eat the fish was to take the batter off. After telling the waitress she apologised and said she'd tell the chef. Sometime later, as we ordered desserts, we asked if she'd told the chef. She said he'd said "sorry" and that he has someone in training. If "someone" isn't capable of sending out good quality food under supervision one or both shouldn't be in the kitchen!!! Finally, the desserts arrived with very dead, curled up and brown mint on top. On remonstrating to the girl about it she said it was their fault as it had been under the hot lamp and they hadn't picked it up soon enough. One was creme brulee which shouldn't have been under heat, the other was brownie with ice cream consequently the ice cream was melted. I told her it was no excuse that she could see it was withered and dead and she should have had the presence of mind to take it off. Yes they took the price of desserts off the final bill but that wasn't the aim. Would have been happier to.pay full price and have a good meal. We were told in advance thst since the manager, Susan, left it had gone down. We should have listened!!!!

Lovely pub, great location on this occasion the food was disappointing. We had sirloin steak that was tough and difficult to very cut. I found it difficult to eat. The chicken pie looked gorgeous but was tasteless and bland. The service as always was excellent I think they knew the meal was not up to standard they never asked if we were enjoying it.

Lovely local pub, welcomed new patriots with warmth. Would recommend.

Previous visit lovely food and great service, what happened in last year, have you changed food supplier? Last visit I ordered hunters chicken which should be renamed because it certainly wasn't that. It was a burnt fritter and quite frankly awful. Service felt rushed, even though the place was quiet.

My server was luke who was amazing, greeted us straight away and took our drink order quickly. once the food was brought out it was delicious and luke made sure everyone was happy and cleared our plates quickly and brought desserts out. I’ve never had better service than i received today from luke. Good Job!

Having been to this establishment now 4 times the food is OK but there is just something about the place I cannot put my hand on compared to other pubs in the group with better food and atmosphere I.e . Chimneys and the Cheshire cat

We have been coming here for a few years now and we always have great food and receive a friendly welcome and service.

Excellent service, and tasty food! We visited for my father in laws 80th birthday with the month in law and my wife. During our visit a little boy went missing from the pub, and things were a bit manic, police outside and everything. The pub and its staff couldn’t do anything about it, and even though staff were helping find the boy, service wasn’t compromised at all. The little boy was found, and all was good. We will absolutely revisit, the fish and chips were unreal.

My husband & I visited The Red Lion on Easter Sunday for a late lunch and had the most enjoyable, tasty, meal we’ve had for a long time. Many thanks to the Chefs particularly, and to Sue and her team who do a superb job.

Easter Sunday lunch - the food was wonderful - prawn cocktail and cheese and garlic mushrooms for starters with the three meat main with vegetables and roast potatoes and gravy and my partner had the lamb rump with roast potatoes and vegetables - really lovely . Service was spot on attentive but not in your face - looking forward to the next visit 🐣👍

Really friendly staff, nothing too much trouble and the food was absolutely gorgeous. A really nice atmosphere, with roaring fires... just what we needed on a bitterly cold day!

Went in on Sunday at 2.10ish, booked for 2.15 and was sat around that time which is great. Drinks order taken and delivered pretty quickly but food order not taken until around 2.50ish. Tables that came after had their orders taken before us. We literally had to shout across the room for the waitress to come take our order. No one came and checked on us, wanted dessert but couldn't get anyone's attention, so we just got up and went to the bar to pay the bill. Didn't think it was overly busy but felt there were a lot of staff with specific tasks, e.g serving food and clearing tables but not everyone can order perhaps that caused the issue. Food tasted great in general, only prawns felt overcooked and strange. Too hungry at this point to say anything, not that anyone came to check on us anyway. Stomach was not okay for a bit until about this morning. But could just be a coincidence.

After two years, we revisited The Red and had a mixed experience. The lamb duo disappointed, - the rump was overcooked, tough and so dry (supposed to be cooked and served medium), while the shepherd's pie was delicious. The chicken schnitzel was great as were our desserts. Service was good, but no-one asked 'is everything OK?' during our meal. There only appeared to be one team member front of house doing everything. The interior was clean and nicely decorated, and we liked the dog-friendly policy. The heating was broken during our visit, it wasn't too cold as they did have small heaters dotted about. The outside areas need attention as starting to look tired with shabby fences and peeling paint on the window sills. Despite the ups and downs, we'd return, but I'll skip the lamb duo next time.

The food was amazing, couldn’t fault it and the service was exceptional. Heating wasn’t working so it was very cold and spoilt the lunch slightly which is why I gave it 4 and not 5 stars.

Came for a mothers day meal. Mum had fish and chips which was huge and perfectly cooked. I chose a beef roast. The beef was a little underdone for me so I asked if I could have it cooked a little more. This was no bother, and it came back perfect. In fact I think it had been changed. All the food was well cooked, hot and the portions were massive. So much so we took our desserts home. Emma the waitress was attentive and lovely. As always thanks to Sue and the team.

Had to wait a long time to be taken to a table, it was extremely cold when we sat down. This was obviously realised by staff who moved us to a table by an open log fire. After our meal went to the bar to pay bill and once again waited a long time to be seen. Staff were standing around with their coats on!

Booked a surprise Sunday Lunch here for my mums 80th, there was 20 of us in total... Sue the manageress was very accommodating from the very start. Had a lovely meal, staff very friendly and helpful and considering there was 20 of us, everything went quite smoothly, a few little hiccups but nothing that wasn't rectified. Thank you Sue and all the staff that helped mum have a perfect couple of hours on her special day.
