Came here on a whim - had passed it a couple of times on our travels & decided to give it a try.....was not disappointed. Landlady was extremely welcoming to ourselves and our 2 dogs (giving treats every time she walked past). The food was of a decent standard - huge portions made it more than worth the money (which was very good value to begin with). Overall, very happy and would come again in a heartbeat

Forgive the pun, but we literally stumbled across this place - whilst doing the Last of the Summer Wine walking trail. Staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. Drinks were reasonably priced and there was a nice, sunny outside seating area too. Signage and plaques around the place make you smile too. Would definitely recommend a visit to here.

A group of us nipped in here around noon for a quick drink as we walked back into Holmfirth after the vineyard tour. We were made so welcome & had such a brilliant time we stayed a couple of hours. The landlady Melissa is really bubbly & friendly. She put some great music on for us, gave us free shots & really couldn’t have made us more welcome. This is a smashing pub with a great choice of drinks at reasonable prices. Thanks a lot Melissa we had a ball!!!!

We went for Sunday lunch this afternoon I can honestly say it was terrible, worse I can remember every Meat was rock hard with the smallest portion possible ,frozen Yorkshire pudding and frozen roast potatoes cold over cooked veg and mash which was tasteless absolutely diabolical Staff not trained at no point where asked how the meal was we waited over 45-minutes after ordering to be presented with horrendous food.

One of two pubs on the main road in the village of Holmbridge, I've been several times in two years, there is now a quality cuisine addition French / Mediterranean style and also sunday lunches and quality bar snacks. The average pub baguette which I am rather familiar with is usually so-so but not here. Chef (in full regalia) produced for me wonderful quality baguettes and a lovely accompanying dressed salad, wedges/chips included too, which makes this "snack" for someone with a healthy appetite! Very good quality at a decent price, and as I was getting in there mid-late evening and staying at the local guesthouse I asked if a take-out could be done, and it was, most considerate and very carefully wrapped up. The restaurant is upstairs and I didn't actually go to that part but in the pub downstairs you are genuinely missing with the friendly locals and don't feel an outsider, well you wouldn't anyway with Yorkshire hospitality. There's TV screens, pool and darts and one or two reasonably priced real ales

We had friends visiting and wanted to catch up over a good lunch. We will not be taking friends to Stumble Inn again. The service was very poor. The food was obviously leftovers. A group of 20 were lunching upstairs and we had the feeling that our custom was not wanted. I chose fish and chips as there was only one portion of scampi left. The chips were oily and the the fish ; two dried up tails. Yuck. We would have been better going to Compo's .

Our first impression was wow it's so warm and cosy. We were made welcome by the staff . Our food was amazing with it being a sunday and staying within tradition we ordered a Roast dinner. All homemade. The presentation was lovely when we were served we were so pleased then they brought out side dishes with vegetables and different types of potatoes we were amazed. In fact there was no room for pudding although the selection looked scrumptious. Compliments to the chef and also to the staff. 100% I cannot recommend this place enough!!

Not very professional - where is the emergency back up? Sadly for them, business lost - we ate elsewhere for the rest of our stay.

I am going to start with the good points because I have never given a poor review before ... The views are lovely, even on a miserable rainy day as was the day of our visit; the toilets are clean and the downstairs Ladies toilet was lovey with extras such as deodorant as well as hand moisturizer and postcard pictures that made me laugh. You could fill your plate - we went on a Sunday and it was a carvery and the pudding portions were very generous. Coffee came with a little biscuit and the bill came with chocolate mints. The meal could have been very good value for money. The not so good points - we had booked a table as we were travelling along way and didn't want to be disappointed however, we had never been there before. (I had 'stumbled' across the website and the menu sounded really good as well as the views sounding fabulous). After being shown to our tables and giving our drinks order, we were left sitting there, feeling a bit awkward, for quite a while. When our drinks came I asked for a menu to be told it was carvery - you just help yourself. The table was set for 'starters' and 'main' so I asked about starters (having also seen them mentioned on the Sunday menu on the website) - No, they don't do starters on a Sunday. OK - vegetarian option - I was really looking forward to the Lancashire Cheese and Apple Souffle Tart - the reply was - yes all the vegetables are vegetarian and we can do you a vegetarian gravy - not quite what I was expecting! My companions were equally unimpressed when the option was beef, pork or sausages - two of them can't eat pork! So it was overcooked beef! At least one of them likes their meat well done so out of 5 of us, one was happy. I am sorry to give such a disgruntled review, but if you are going to have menus on your website serve the food or at least something of a similar standard - if not remove the menus so people are not misled. I will not be 'stumbling in' again! sorry to say ,as Holmfirth is a beautiful place and we will certainly be returning.I have said there is parking but it is very limited.

We looked through the menu and decided to share the pate as our starter so that we would have room for the tasty Stumble steak and ale pie which we had heard so many positive comments about! The starter was served and it was lovely. Then we saw the plates being warmed ready for the Stumble pie! It was delicious!! Served with freshly cooked, crispy chips and mushy peas with lots of lovely, beefy gravy. Fantastic tasty food beautifully presented and served. We will definitely call again when we are in Holmfirth. The Stumble Inn is also handy if you are visiting Holmfirth Vineyards.

Works Christmas do! We were booked in for 5:30pm, however some of the group didn't arrive until nearly 6pm, not that is seemed to matter. We made our way up stairs to the dining room, all 12 of us, only to find that the table had been set for 9 - despite a deposit of £10 per head having been paid. A quick scramble to set another 3 places, but the Christmas crackers failed to appear! Also a shortage of cutlery, which we pinched from the next table. The meal was very slow at being served - despite pre ordering, and being the only people in the dining room for the first hour. One of our party had to leave without eating, because she was booked somewhere else at 8pm. Two our tables - a 4 and a 2 were filled during the time we were there. The food was OK, nothing special, although the meat eaters enjoyed the product of the local farm - Coddys. My nut roast would have been better with an decent sauce.Oh and our friend who didn't eat still got charged!

After being told by friends to visit this pub for food, we did and wished we had found this eating place earlier. Their Sunday carvery is excellent value for money, with a senior citizens reduction - smaller plate but take as much as you want. Usually a choice of three meats plus up to nine veg, including three different potatoes to choose from. Unlike many pubs, you don't have to have the carvery on Sunday but may choose off the menu. Mid week pensioners specials are good value also special days during the week for good value food, cooked fresh on the premises, using locally sourced meat. The staff are always friendly and helpful. When you get back to your place from the carvery your drinks are there on the table waiting for you with your gravy, so you don't risk spilling it from your plate on your way back to the table. The puddings are interesting and look good when we see them taken to people's tables but we have always been too full up to order one! You can eat in the bar or upstairs in the restaurant will lovely views over the Holme Valley.

When we entered we found a cheery atmosphere with a blazing log fire. I ordered the steak and stilton pie, my wife the vegetarian lasagna. Both exceeded our expectations, with lots of tasty ingredients and the minimum of pie crust/pasta. The local ale - I recall it was called Samuel Taylor's was a great bitter - I would go out of my way to try it again! Visit to the washroom was a pleasant experience - very well maintained and spotlessly clean. WiFi is available, and this was very helpful To top it off, when the bill came it was very reasonable If we are ever in the north of England again, I will try it again.
