After reading great reviews we came here for a birthday meal. Firstly we were unfortunately sat next to the door leading to the toilets, which smelt like constant piss wafting past. Oh the food 😢 I had Sunday roast no option of chicken, just beef or pork. I settled with the beef, I wish I hadn't, it was so tough and full of gristle I couldn't eat it. The potatoes tasted like cheap frozen ones that were hot but really hard in the middle, my mum's potato was so big it was raw in the middle, not sure what happened to the Yorkshire puddings it was chewy and it had such a strange taste to it that I couldn't eat it. £18 per meal and I only ate the vegetables. Extremely disappointed and definitely won't be coming again. Oh and you might want to look at the coke dispenser as everyone's were completely flat. On a better note the apple crumble was lovely I just wish the rest was. We did think it was strange though how no one asked us how the meal was, maybe they already knew?

We had a really lovely meal. The atmosphere was great, the open fire was lovely and the food was spot on. Being gluten and lactose intolerant I sometimes get anxious about eating out & worried that I’m going to be seen to be fussy. They catered for my intolerances without a worry and were really good. Thank you! Would highly recommend.

We have been here a few times over the years and it's been a bit hit and miss, small portions and a bit greasy. But when we went this time round, it was really good, don't know if they have a new chef or something but the portions are big! Really tasty too. We really enjoyed it and will be returning

Visited here for the first time with my Mrs. Firstly, the food was incredible! I ordered the 10oz rump, which was cooked to perfection. Pepper sauce on the side was delicious. Home made chips and a generous portion of salad just added to the delight. Mrs ordered the oven roasted chicken breast. The mash was incredibly creamy and delicious. The chicken cooked to perfection. The blue cheese sauce was lovely! We were well looked after by who I assume were the landlord and lady. Incredibly friendly and ran around working hard to make sure everyone felt like they were top priority. Would wholeheartedly recommend.

Spent a lovely relaxing lunch here today, looking out across the fields surrounding Huddersfield. Fabulous food (from a good menu selection, both for choice & portion size. Listening to good music, & served by pleasant staff. Could have eaten outside if we had wanted to, but we chose to eat indoors in the relaxing decor. Would highly recommend.

Stopped here after a good walk round Scapegoat Hill. The following week we walked round Birkenshaw, stopping at the the Halfway House. All of us drank the same beer at both locations (Bradfield Farmers Blonde). The Scapehouse price is £5.00/pint, Halfway House £3.30/pint. Make your own assumptions where we won't be returning.

We came for my cousins birthday back in April and the experience was great, the service was spot on and the staff very helpful with any questions. We ordered off the 2 for £25 menu and we wasn’t disappointed. Portion size was good and the food was very tasty. There is a park across the road also which is great if you have young restless children. All round great experience here.

Been to The Scape House quite a few times but the food doesn’t seem to be on par with how good it used to be. Not sure if they have a new chef. A couple of weeks ago myself and family went for a meal and 3 of us ordered the rump steak and all 3 of us left most of it. It was cold and really chewy. They also don’t give you a steak knife so it was so hard to cut through. Went again last Sunday and had the roast dinner. This also was very disappointing. It was lukewarm, had lumpy mash, watery gravy and barely any vegetables. The beef was also very chewy. Definitely not worth what they charge for it. The pub itself is lovely and staff are great. Just the food that is letting them down in my opinion. Tip - provide steak knife’s for the steak and the roast beef!

We popped in here for a late lunch … it was still quite busy. We sat in the area just past the bar … the only negative of our visit was that this area was quite chilly. The actual food was excellent … the garlic mushroom starter has great flavour and the whitebait starter was cooked perfectly. My wife had the small lunchtime fish & chips and it was plenty for her. I went for the Scape burger … two excellent patties and trimmings … neither of us could manage a pudding!

We had booked a table for 4pm..we gave our name at the door and was just left there waiting for a good 4 minutes. So we approached the bar to find someone. Then we were acknowledged and were shown to out table. It was for me and my mum for her birthday. We were sat next to a table of approx 6 cackling women with constant mobiles ringing and two dogs off their leads constantly walking so.close to our table, tails wagging causing hairs around our food. The waitresses were so young they didn't know what the veg of the day was and had to ask another waitress loudly across the room . My mum asked for crackling with the pork on her Sunday dinner..none came.. I had the Sunday dinner..my first ever visit..and was so disappointed for the price! I had 2 small 🥕 one parsnip. The smallest "blob" of mashed 🥔, 3 tiny roast potatoes 🥔 and red cabbage..(we were told cabbage). I'm not a lover of red cabbage so would not have ordered the Sunday dinner if I'd known...reluctantly we didn't complain about any of this.. and to top it off we waited 11 minutes from asking for our bill to receiving it and that was because we had to ask again!! . THAT 11 MINS WITH THESE CACKLING WOMEN,MOBILE PHONES GOING OFF. PINGING AND RINGING AND THE DOGS. WAS UNBEARABLE. Extremely disappointed to say the least as was my mum...my sister advised you used to serve cauli/brocoli cheese separately with a Sunday dinner. What's happened to that...also where were the "roaring log fires" which tempt people in..certainly not lit on a very cold day.

Went for dinner today and just had to review. Between us we had king prawn, black pudding and salt and pepper wings to start. Followed by belly pork, chicken Kiev, beef stew with horseradish dumplings and childrens chicken dinner. To finish an apple crumble and some ice creams. I can honestly say that everyone really enjoyed each course and it was empty plates all round. I saw the earlier review about the stew and gave it a go anyway. I'm guessing the chef has altered the recipe slightly as My portion was full of meat and roasted veg, in a lovely thick gravy with horseradish dumplings which tasted amazing. The staff were also great. it got really busy while we were there but it was still lovely to sit in the hub of the pub with the twinkle lights and everyone just enjoying themselves. It felt cosy as it always has. Can honestly say well done to the new owners. It's always been known as a great pub and eatery, so I'm glad you've been able to carry this on. Will definitely be returning.

Situated with great views over the valley this is a traditional pub offering good food and drink with parking opposite. Our party enjoyed a selection of starters which were all enjoyed including black pudding fritters with a spicy chilli jam, battered brie wedges , garlic mushrooms, chicken liver parfait and very good french onion soup. They are renowned for their pies and the steak and ale , and cheese and onion, in particular, were a big hit with good chips. The only real disappointment was the beef stew which was a little thin and not the best for £17. The Creme brulee was good but again the Chocolate Fudge cake not the best and probably needed more ice cream to compensate. Drinks were reasonably priced but service was a bit slow in places even though they were not that busy. However the quality of food and location definitely warrants a visit.

Lovely pub with really nice interior. Feels very welcoming and the staff were quick to get us seated. We pre booked but was unaware we'd be bringing our baby in her pram and they offered us the choice to pick where we sat that would be best suited for us and the pram. Food was gorgeous, I had the brie wedge for starters and the scan house buttermilk chicken burger. The brie wedge was honestly unreal how good it was and so was the burger. Apart from the chicken itself, towards the centre if the burger it was quite tough but was still very enjoyable. Prices was fair for what you get and the staff was just amazing. The 2 ladies that served us was very friendly and loved have a chat about our baby and exchanging stories about themselves and their experience with parenthood. Only other downside was no drinks menu BUT the ladies reeled off what they had at the bar when we asked. All in all, great pub and grub, great staff and the view from the long wi Dow where we sat of the valley ahead was just beautiful. Definitely recommend!!!

First review, felt I needed to as I've been here now a few times and never considered writing a review before but after reading some of the past reviews I felt it only fair to do so, new owners or not. Amazing views, lovely place with stylish decor. Food is excellent and staff are friendly and helpful, yes there are some young people working alongside more senior staff and thanks to places like this who can still employ them. Remember we all started somewhere! These places are few and far between now which is a sad sign of the times and we should support them before they all go!! Thank you to all involved at the Fox House.
