Sunday lunch was dismal, ran out of pork belly and chicken, the carrots tasted of star annis and the roast potatoes were just about the worst that I have had in any pub, they really need to up their game, will not eat here again, a waste of money Bristolfoodcritic

I’ve been visiting the Stone Horse over the last few years and can say that it’s the best place locally for a pub lunch… and it’s even better since it’s been under new management! Food is always delicious and service is very friendly. The fact that it always has a great atmosphere is a testament to how well the pub is run. Whenever we have guests staying with us, it’s our go to place for a Sunday lunch as we know it will never disappoint. The staff really get to know the regular customers and are very attentive. Also… the biscoff cheesecake with cream is absolutely delicious! Even though they do a great lunch, also a lovely place to pop in for just a few drinks as the atmosphere is always great!

My partner and I eat in this pub quite a but (it is one of our locals) we love it and the food is always of excellent quality and really tasty. Based on our usual experience here we were excited to try their Sunday roast lunch and decided to visit when we had family staying for the weekend. Unfortunately their roast dinner was a huge let down and most of us did not finish it. We had the roast beef and this in itself was quite tough and chewy. The roast potatoes were under cooked and not at all golden and crisp. Mine were still hard in the middle and not fluffy as we had wanted and expected. Yorkshire pudding were burnt on the top and therefore tasted bitter when we tried to eat them. Carrots had a horrible taste of aniseed (admittedly not a flavour I am a fan of) and were also quite under cooked (probably to some peoples Al Dente liking and that would have been fine without the aniseed). Total lack of gravy, this was all served in the Yorkshire pudding and none on the mountain of red and green cabbage that came with the dinner. One person in our party had and enjoyed the Tandoori chicken, but one in four is not a great outcome. Unfortunately on a Sunday there are no other menu options available. Given this and that all in all the whole meal was a disappointment (and in some cases actually inedible) and we will not return for a Sunday lunch again. Other food yes definitely but not on a Sunday.

We went here for Sunday lunch as it was our sons birthday, we were a party of 10, when we arrived there were some confusion over the menu as the one we were ordering from very much differed from there website. Having said this the staff were very helpful and did allow us to swap items on the menu to our personal preference, the food was excellent and well presented, Atmoshpere was friendly without being in your face, we had taken a birthday cake which a member of staff presented and supplied a knife and plates at no extra charge. All in all a very pleasant experience and I thought it was very good value for money I will go back and look forward to experiencing the full menu I thank the staff for making our sons birthday a special day. Well recommended

This pub has been used by us and our family members for many years and it has had a few ups and downs, the new tenants are definitely an 'UP'. They clearly want to provide a lovely pub atmosphere and a good pint of ale. They have welcomed all the regular drinkers and eaters with open arms and it remains a dog and country friendly pub.

We visited over the weekend and were pleasantly surprised by the welcoming atmosphere, staff and the local regulars, who were very inviting. The pub was very busy and staff were rushed off their feet but they continued serving, with a smile and were very polite and hospitable. I didn’t eat but saw many people enjoying their meals, so will definitely be returning for the new landlady’s meals, which I’ve heard such good things about. Lovely family, friendly place and I can see me and my family making a good few visits here. Ps I was a little nervous about suitable parking but my fears were allayed because there was ample.🤩

Had bee using this pub for a long time with old owners no prolems and dogs also allowed in. Having eaten and ordered drinks was put off when new tenant told staff member to liberally spray the whole bar area with cheap perfumed air freshener as she said a dg had made the bar smell she was only one who could smell the dog. I have severe asthmas and this has caused me to cough and wheezee not good. Drink tasted of air freshener and us and other people in bar got coverred in air freshener and it is not acceptable. Its a known health and safety law but ovisbly its not by the tenat you dont spray like this, think she is ignornat and bad mannered. If she doesnt want animals in the bar then put a sign up statin they arent welcome. She has lost two regular customers and will no dout lose more if this is how she chooses to carry on I have chosen to report tis breach to the relevant people as i do not wish to see it repeated and happen to other people.

Decided to try the Stone Horse for a evening meal this Thursday as we have never been there before. Booked a table for 2 at 7pm. When we arrived we approached the bar and the barmaid was serving but said hello. We told her we had a table booked and she spoke to another barman to ask him where our table was. She then said she would clear the table which although had a reserved sign on it two men were sitting there which appeared to be with a large group on the next table. . We were then directed to our table and we sat down. Although they had cleared the table there was a jacket and jumper left on the seats at our table which we had to move. We were not asked if we wanted a drink or even given menus. After about 10mins of waiting and the arrival of a group of women we decided that this pub was not for us and we left. We could see they were busy but that’s no excuse for poor customer service. We won’t go back and unlikely to recommend

Home made steak and ale pie said the menu. And it definitely was. An delicious and generous slice out of a larger pie, not the usual dish of meat with an unconnected lump of pastry laid on top. My wife had the southern fried chicken which she also enjoyed. Good service, freshly cooked.

I used to drink in The Stone Horse many, many years ago and thought about going there again for a birthday meal out...I have to say I hope I don't leave it so long to return next time. Meghan was incredibly accommodating and responsive each time I emailed to change the numbers (Many thanks, Meghan) and we eventually ended up with a table of 10.The Stone Horse is a lovely warm, welcoming pub and, I personally, have sometimes felt country pubs like this can be a bit cliquey with the locals. However there was no hint of that and in fact those sat at the bar (which I presume some were known) were also very welcoming and helpful as there isn't masses of room. The drink selection is varied with several draught lagers and ales available. Now moving onto the food! It's not very often I have done this, but I even asked my compliments to be passed onto the chef. Whilst the menu isn't extensive (as was pointed out by one of my guests), there was something for everyone and the standard of the food was excellent. I would much prefer to have a smaller menu and be served fantastic food, than have an extensive menu, that people then complain about - specially when all 10 of us enjoyed it.The only minor complaint was there was too much of it, but this was by the 'olds' in the group that usually have a jam sandwich for tea. Many thanks to everyone at The Stone Horse...

Have visited twice now for a lunchtime meal - not impressed at all. Specials board stated slow roast pork with crackling and roasted root vegetables. Pork was dried to within an inch of it's life and there was NO CRACKLING at all. Although I like my veg to have a bit of a crunch this was so under cooked that it was not too far from raw. Another meal ordered was the pie of the week - chicken and mushroom - this was served having been re-heated in the microwave and if that didn't make the pastry soggy enough it was served with a river of gravy poured over the top of the pie! Nice chap who was having to run the bar and wait on tables was advised of these facts and said he would let the kitchen know - that was the last we heard. Decided to go for a pudding to make up for disappointing mains. Asked for the desert menu only to be told that the only pudding available was only the one on the specials board - HOME MADE pear and almond tart. OK so as that was our only choice we decided to give it a go. Not sure whose home it was made in but they obviously forgot about the pears being a major ingredient in this. It was so uninspiring and to make matters worse one portion was served that was about two thirds the size of the others - portion control not being the cook's biggest worry. Just wish it was me that got the small one!! Quite expensive for what was bad pub grub and certainly won't be visiting again - advise anyone wanting a decent meal to do the same.

Service was stretched to breaking point. We waited for 40 mins for our meals - only for them to be given to another table; who complained they got the wrong order - but tucked in anyway. When our meals did arrive the chips were very poor indeed, not properly cooked and green! The burger was crispy yet rare....nasty. This potentially is our local - hence why we might try it again. If that had not been the case we wouldn't return and it was so ghastly I might still give it a miss. To be continued...or not!

The homemade chicken pie is to die as, as are the chicken fajitas. The chips are hand cut, not frozen like most pubs serve. My only two complaints are that 1) the menu is very limited, and it would be great to have a few more options and maybe some starters and desserts also. 2) They are not open for Sunday lunch! Please start serving food on a Sunday, it would be perfect. A fantastic place for a no frills lunch or dinner, friendly pub serving true pub grub with huge portions!

The Stone Horse is a small pub on the outskirts of Higham. A cosy, warm and friendly pub. As well as a varied menu there are daily specials. I decided to have the Chicken & Mushroom pie which they said was home made. My friend had the fajita’s.I can confirm the pie was indeed homemade and from its taste with passion and just a touch of love. Instead of cubed processed chicken, it was succulent proper chicken with slices of mushroom in a creamy sauce, nicely seasoned with tarragon making this special, not something from a tin. I chose fries, which were hand cut and vegetables. The veg was fresh and firm, not hard but firm. I felt it needed gravy as I asked if they could do me some. Nothing was too much trouble. The fajitas came out on a red hot skillet and the smell was fantastic. Again all the ingredients were fresh. It’s obvious the food it cooked to order making this a treasure of a find. The portions were a decent size and served with a smile. The team appeared quite young but the quality of the service was anything but. They really have a good offering here and felt attended too, but not hurried. The tables are not all the same and the variety of table sizes and chair makes the décor perfect for a country pub. I have since been back with my grown up children who enjoyed their meals as much as I did. My sons-in-law is a real ale fan and was able to have a varied choice where I prefer the continental selection of lagers and wines on offer.I can hearty recommend the Stone Horse for drinks, food and ambience.

A visit by four adults and one young person. The overall atmosphere was one of friendliness and welcome. My beer, Doombar, was excellent. Always the first hurdle when dining in a pub. I chose chicken and mushroom pie. A large portion cut from a bigger homemade pie with a shortcrust pastry. Not, what seems to be the norm in other eateries, a mass produced pie in a deep dish with flakey pastry. Excellent. I had chips instead of mashed potato, a mistake, the chips were not as good as my first visit. Others had gammon, with perfectly poached eggs , a large battered cod and an homemade burger. No complaints at all.

Stopped here for lunch on Saturday and had a very warm welcome. Staff were very friendly. We ordered a plough mans and chicken fajitas and the portion size was huge. Far too much but that's better than not enough. Very tasty and filled a hole we were pleasantly surprised and will come here again and sample more food.

The staff here are excellent. I'm sorry that I can't remember his name but he deserves a special mention. Nothing was too much trouble, even a dog bowl and biscuits were offered to our friends' dog. We had an amazing meal, can definitely recommend the specials - Lamb Tangine and Chicken Fahitas. Every sauce brought to the table. Wine glasses sparkling. If the interior is made more modern this pub will be even more appealing, this was the only thing we thought lacking. Everything else was first class! Well done and keep up the good work. We will be back and are so pleased we tried The Stone Horse as we can walk from home!

We set off from South East London for a drive in Sunny Kent and hoped to find a nice country pub for a bite to eat. We spotted this pub, just off the main road and decided to stop there for lunch, as it looked to fit the bill. We couldn't have been happier with our choice, as the food was fantastic and very reasonably priced. We both chose to try the slow roasted gammon, double egg (choice of fried or poached) and chips. We were very pleased to find that the generous portion of chips are home-made, with the ham falling apart, it was so tender and wonderfully roasted vine tomatoes on the side. We cannot wait to take relatives and friends to visit and will definitely be back to try other items from the menu.

The lunch menu at the Stonehorse is superb from hot food to sandwiches. The size of the sandwich and the amount of filling is truly amazing and all served up with a full plate of salad and relish. Also let's remember that this is a pub we are talking about and they serve a great pint of beer!

Enjoyed a get together with some friends two nights ago, we were able to reserve a table in advance. Great food, we were all happy with our choices and very generous portions- liver and bacon was perfectly cooked. Very good value for money too. Staff are super friendly- nothing is too much trouble.

We go here quite regularly for a drink and sometimes for food. It is now under new owners and the emphasis is now back to being a pub that does some food instead of the food being the main attraction. The beer selection is good with Courage Best, Doom Bar and Moretti lager to name a few and the limited bar menu is good too with such items as Home made burgers and pies, jackets and omelettes.

I recently returned back to this pub to try the food I'd heard so much about, and I wasn't disappointed. My husband and I had the homemade burger from the main menu and the homemade fish and chips from the specials. They we're both absolutely amazing, extremely fresh and very well presented. Since coming here before the outside of the building has been repainted, which gives the pub a classy country feel, you can also now see the building from the main road due to the new lighting they have installed.Having spoken the the landlady I hear there are lots more new and exciting things to happen here over the next year.Beautiful pub with scrumptious food. Defiantly worth a visit or two.

The first thing to understand and cherish is that this an unchanged , unpretentious country pub. It has chatter , laughter , locals and a warm welcome. I understand that the food side of the trade is being enhanced gradually so at this time it doesn't have an overstretched menu. I had a large most tasty gammon steak , with hand crafted chips and trimmings, I can't remember having had better. Others in my family group had steak pie, sea bass and ham and eggs .Nothing 'foodie' but excellent quality. There is a specials board which I understand changes regularly. Good English ales were available, I chose Doombar , very well kept . There was a small wine list of inexpensive wines . Go again ? Most certainly .

Just had a pub lunch at the Stone Horse. Never again!!!!!3/4 hr waiting, and turned up with cold onion rings and chips so raw I'd be surprised if they see any heat at all.Even the waitress agreed they were raw, so why did they serve them ?My sisters cheese and mushroom omelette didn't have any mushrooms!!.Only visited because of the good reviewsI certainly won't be recommending this establishment to anyone

Had to drive out to Higham on an errand and decided to visit the rustic looking white washed pub spied on a little country lane. This place hides a fantastic chef! The pub looks like nothing to write home about, plain, but welcoming, warm and clean. My husband assures me the range of beers is excellent and well kept.We both ordered off the specials board, beef burger, mushroom and stilton topping, home cut chips and beer battered onion rings. Wow, gorgeous doesn't do it justice. Obviously freshly cooked and presented beautifully. This chef loves to cook. Will definitely revisit, lovely English, old fashioned gem of a pub.

What a great British Pub in the heart of the country side. Newly revamped with a toasty wood burning fire. A great Refreshing choice of fine Ales, which are very easy to consume! Food menu is short and sweet. The food arrives fast and pipping hot every time. I have eaten here many times and have not been disappointed with the food or portion size.Try this Pub as it will not disappoint.

I've been using this place for decades. It's not often i use bakeries, but this is my go to place whenever i get a craving for a crusty ham roll with lettuce and onions, always fresh food, never had any issues on that front. Once or twice in the past I might have and a grumpy server, I've not let that put me off tho, we all have off days. And I've seen other comments moaning about prices. Cost of living I'm afraid, I think we can all agree that prices of pretty much every single thing we consume have shot up in the past couple of years.

Rob the manager, goes from strength to strength . It seems to improve every time we visit. Due to our friend having a well behaved baby we had reserved a table in the large garden for 5. Never done so before , so did not know about the different rules that apply . No waitress service , order at bar ,fetch your own cutlery ,serviette. Then the menu is totally different from inside . As an an OAP I was oblivious to this . Was a little perturbed but Rob sorted it out getting us a nice table inside, such a professional and huge asset to the owner. Food ordered and in no time arrived well cooked presented and tasty. Quite an admiral achievement when busy and we all had different dishes too. Asking the bar maid whether the Amstel lager was genuine Dutch import ,she said , I don't know , but it tasted ok. Families and parties were welcomed and catered for . Bouncy castle and huge out door tv . our son enjoyed several Euro matches their recently too. Will return as soon as possible , pension permitting . Large car park .

A lovely place to meet up with friends. Freshly made sandwiches and coffee. The cakes all looked lovely too. Service was very friendly and quick. Space to sit outside too, if the weather is fine. Would recommend you give it a try.
