Second time we have been to The Station Hotel for food since our family members moved to the village. Both times the food has been amazing….. very difficult to not over indulge and have 3 courses!! Lots of variety on the menu and different items on the menus both times we have visited. All our food was amazing but the beef cheeks starter, crab donut starters and Lamb on the mains specials deserve a special mention! Would definitely recommend and no doubt at all that we will be visiting again and again!

Everything about the place was top class. From accommodating us over two hours early when we misjudged the time of our walk to the wee chocolate at the end. The roast pork I had was a taste sensation. The best roast I have ever had. Unusually too, everything on the plate was of a top standard from the stuffing to the horseradish, lots of times there's always something lacking, but not on this occasion. Other family members also loved the roast beef and my teenage daughter loved her chicken burger. Finished with a beautiful crumble and custard. The food is excellent, the staff is excellent and the loos are spotlessly clean. Loved every bit of it. Great value for money too. Glad we visited.

Good menu, really nice food, good portions. The restaurant is clean and comfortable, with a very pleasant and relaxing atmosphere. The only thing that spoiled our evening was the very poor service - I stood at the bar and was completely ignored by the three people serving, until one of them finally noticed me and asked "Are you waiting?" We waited a long time before our order was taken - when the food eventually arrived, it was excellent. However, as there were only 6 other people dining, it was hard to fathom why the service was so slow. Later, I was obliged to go back to the bar to order a further glass of wine - which they kindly offered to bring to the table. Ten minutes later, I interrupted a chat between two of the staff and asked if they'd forgotten me. They had - and couldn't even remember what I'd ordered. The lack of someone in overall charge was clear - I'm all for employing young local people, but they'll need to up their game and provide a better service if this lovely pub/restaurant is going to achieve the footfall it deserves.

Poor service and food for the price. It took the waitress 20 minutes to get a lime and lemonade for me, so this was not a good start. When we were given the menus (only one menu choice, as the "market" menu was unavailable on bank holidays, a fact not advertised on the website), the waitress was unable to tell me what a "bar" steak was. Having asked the chef, the answer was unclear, concentrating on where on the animal it was from, rather than the shape, texture and cut. I decided to go for it anyway. Our food took a further 45 minutes to come and the restaurant was not busy at all. My mother had asked for fries rather than hand cut chips, which are too thick for her palate. She got the thick cut chips. She asked for a small salad garnish instead of peas. It turned out to be a huge bowl of side salad. These things are important to her as she is 93 and easily over faced by large quantities. My steak was nothing like what I expected. It was a "squat" cube of meat, which I found barely edible. When the waitress asked at the end of the meal if everything had been ok, I pointed out the mistake with the fries first. The response was "I don't know what I can do about that" (she could have given us a discount), which did not inspire me to complain further. This was intended to be an Easter Monday treat and turned out to be a frustrating and disappointing experience, especially as my mother had been the previous week for Sunday lunch and raved about it.

This is usually a favourite place to come for a pub lunch - but not today. Three of us ordered fish and chips. The fish was three quarters batter with a very tiny portion of overcooked fish inside. The chips were warm and limp. The pots of peas/mushy peas were stone cold. Service was extremely slow and, in one case, somewhat abrasive. In all fairness, our complaints were acknowledged and we did not have to pay for the food - most of which had been left on our plates. Such a disappointing lunch today, especially as fish and chips used to be a delicious speciality here.

Visited tonight 13 January for a catch up and meal with our 18 year old Daughter and partner ! We intentionally arrived half an hour before our table was booked to allow us to have a drink in the bar before being seated and to have a catch up with each other ! On arrival and stating we would like a drink in the bar first we felt pressured to go sit at our table where they would serve us drinks at the table ! We went to the table as a family and on requesting drinks, being ordered by myself ( Mum ) and legally being able to buy my 18 year old Daughter and her 18 year old boyfriend a drink legally they were both asked for ID !! My Daughter hadn’t taken her ID as her Dad drove us there and back so left her purse at home ! Her Boyfriend had his ID in his wallet so got served ! Absolutely tainted what should have been a wonderful evening for us all !!! The law states that at the age of 16 and 17 you can legally have a drink with a meal as long as an adult that you are dining with you purchases said alcohol ! Leanne was nothing but professional when phoning to book the table but on service lacked customer service and skills in the restaurant department !! We have so looked forward to dining at this pub/restaurant on our doorstep for sometime now but in future will stick to the Wellington Inn in Darley! Also the constant ding dong to alert the staff that orders were ready was extremely annoying when you are trying to hold a conversation !

First trip away to a lovely location, Hampsthwaite, nr Harrogate, Knaresborough and The Station Hotel in Birstwith. Our first meal out (outside of course, but under a permanent wooden gazebo, with heaters). The staff are lovely, and took care of all the necessary registration of our visit and made us feel comfortable. To start I had the Chicken Parfait which was delicious, and Mike had the Sticky Chilli Beef, which he thoroughly enjoyed, for mains I had the East Coast Fish Pie, which was loaded with fish, topped with creamy mash and a crisp topping of cheese, with Mike enjoying Traditional Fish & Chips, which even a week later, he is saying was the best he had had in a very long time, and that’s not because of lockdown, as we’ve a few excellent Chippy’s near us! Well, even though very satisfied, we had to go for a dessert, to good an opportunity to miss! For me Charred Nectarine, which was nectarine purée, pistachio cake, and either sour cream or raspberry sorbet, I opted for the cream, it was light and delicious, Mike’s choice was Caramelized Pear Sticky Toffee Pudding with Butterscotch Sauce, and Vanilla Icecream, he’s not a dessert eater normally, but said it was fab! We also had a lovely bottle of whit wine, which was lovely and cold, and at same price we would pay for a decent bottle anywhere. We feel that the prices are fair, the food is really good, the staff are efficient and friendly, and the place is lovely, and we will definitely go back when able, to see the inside of this what looks to be an quite old and imposing pub. We thoroughly recommend it to anyone, so take a look at the menu and give yourselves a treat and visit the very beautiful area around Harrogate, you’ll be glad that you did.

About a 15-minute drive from Harrogate, this restaurant-bar catered well for outside diners, in a heated pavilion with blankets provided. (Covid restrictions of April 2021).The starters we had were great - chilli beef with veg, and spiced pork spring rolls.Mains were ale-battered haddock, chips & mushy peas, and pork steak with gravy, spring greens & pork breaded dumplings. The fish and chips were excellent, as were the chunky chips and home-cooked mushy peas and tartare sauce. The pork was nicely cooked and the novel dumplings a success too.Service was warm and friendly and the selection of ales and wines extensive, if expensive... But by Harrogate prices, this was reasonable. We finished off the evening with coffee and a magnificent sticky toffee pudding (with caramelized pear and butterscotch sauce) and a scoop of Yorkshire vanilla ice cream.Yum.

We were staying in Harrogate for the weekend and had booked an early tea at a local restaurant. After viewing the recent hygiene inspection we decided not to go. We did our research and found The Station Hotel. We contacted then at 17:45 and were advised that as long as we arrived before 18:30 we would be guaranteed a table. We were greeted at the door By A gentleman who explained that due to covid we would be expected to wear a mask when walking around but could remove it once seated. My husband has a mask exemption card on a lanyard and they were very understanding of this. We were informed that they were running on a reduced menu. We were pleasantly surprised when we were handed a menu which was identical to the one on their website. My husband chose the steak pie with chunky chips and I have complex food allergies so ordered two prawn and crayfish cocktails without sauce and without butter on the bread. Our food arrived promptly and definitely did not disappoint. The pie looked and tasted home made. Lashings of quality prime cuts of steak in a rich gravt6encased on a homemade short crust shell accompanied by the best mushy peas this side of the pennines and home made chunky chips. The prawns and crayfish were plentiful and came beautifully presented in large shells with lettuce and watercress garnish. We were Informed that the bread was made at a local artisan bakery and was scrumptious. They even brought a separate ramekin with butter in case my husband wanted to try some too. The bill came to £27.10 including a pot of tea and a pint of lemonade. We felt this was excellent value for money. Everyone was very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The booking system appears to work well as although people seemed to be coming in this was a steady process. Tables were cleaned rapidly and even though we were sitting right next to the bar we felt comfortable and relaxed. Next time we visit this part of the world we will make sure we come back. Their buisness card states that they have rooms to book so will look.into that also. A great little gem in on the outskirts of Harrogate. Just wish we'd found it sooner.

We went for a 3 mile walk along the river in this idyllic village followed by lunch at The Station Hotel. We sat outside but under cover. The food was very good, I had a tasty fish pie. My husband had, as he put it,': probably the best steak and ale pie ever '(and that's from a man that knows his pies)! I had a bitter orange tart that was very delectable. We have been out a few times in this weird time of Covid 19, so it can make you feel a tad wary. This place has it spot on. We both felt very safe: we signed in, the staff all had masks, etc but it wasn't intrusive. Staff were friendly and professional. This restaurant is taking part in the Eat Out to Help Out scheme, runs Mon-Wed in Aug 2020, 50% off per person up to £10 each off so we got £20 off the bill. We will definitely be coming back here-it was a lovely day out in a beautiful part of England.

Visited in the first Monday they were re-open. The food was absolutely amazing and the staff were friendly. The only slight issue was they hadn’t anticipated the demand (it was the first night of the help to eat out) do by the time we arrived at our booked time the kitchen was already struggling so we had to wait a fair while for our mains. The staff were apologetic though. We would visit again though as the food was excellent.

The guidelines The Station Hotel have for Covid-19 are fantastic, the most safe I have felt visiting a restaurant or pub since the restart of businesses. The service was quick and attentive, the food arriving quickly and of a good standard. All round good experience and would definitely return if in the area.

The food was just ok. The service was just ok. It was all just ok. This wasn't a relaxed post COVID meal like in other restaurants we have been to....It felt like a meal in the middle of a pandemic and I guess the sign of a good restaurant is to make it happen without anyone noticing. I could not recommend this place.

This place is awful. We dined there on A Saturday night despite being told we could eat in doors. We had two children with us and we were the only party outside. The owner went completely crazy as the children were not sat down even though we were the only people sat outside and he complained as he had to wipe some tables down due to Covid. His staff were embarrassed for him. Horrific customer service, bland average food, dreadful atmosphere. If you want a good meal and night out then please AVOID this place

My partner and I went to the Station Hotel for Sunday lunch yesterday with her parents. Despite the 'new normal' of Covid-19 rules and regulations, we received a warm welcome from the friendly, attentive staff, who were all 'masked up'.We had pre-booked our meal and on arrival, we were met by the maître d' who confirmed our details. Hand sanitiser was provided and we were taken to our table in the restaurant. Because of social distancing, the cutlery, napkins and condiments etc. were placed on the table and we set our own places - the waitress politely explained all of this to us. The food and drinks menus are printed on A4 sheets, so each table receives a 'fresh' copy which can be disposed afterwards. You need to wear a face mask or covering (e.g. a scarf) when walking through the pub or restaurant areas but can remove these at your table. We ordered three roast beef and one roast pork - the consensus was that everyone's meal was very, very good . They also offer roast chicken and I think there’s a veggie option available too, but as a committed carnivore I cannot vouch for this. Each meal was served with roast and mashed potatoes, an individual Yorkshire pudding, a selection of fresh, steamed vegetables and gravy - everyone thoroughly enjoyed the food. We also opted for cauliflower cheese as a side dish, which was delicious too.Because of social distancing, the cutlery, napkins and condiments etc. were placed on the table and we set our own places - the waitress politely explained all of this to us. The food and drinks menus are printed on A4 sheets, so each table receives a 'fresh' copy which can be disposed afterwards. The Station offers a comprehensive drinks menu - as you would expect from a good country pub - and I can attest that the draught Guinness is exceptional and a real treat after more than 100 days of 'lockdown'!!The main courses were generous but I think that it's always sensible to leave some space for pudding, which we did... We rounded off the meal with delicious desserts, which comprised Eton Mess for the In-Laws, which seemed to go down very well with both of them, a Sticky Toffee Pudding for my girlfriend (always a winner, and this did not disappoint), while I chose a selection of three home-made ice creams (Madagascan Vanilla, Roasted Strawberry, Chocolate and Sea Salt) served with cinder toffee, crushed meringue and a biscuit crumb, which was fantastic. All in all, we had a very enjoyable lunch and I heartily recommend this place.

Please Please avoid dining in this pub. 8 of us went for a meal and we put outside on a chilly evening - even when the inside was empty. We asked for the outside heaters to be put on and we were told “No”The owner then came out and was extremely rude to us because the children were not sat down even though we were the only people outside. Food was average at best. Had to wait an age. He spoke to us extremely rudely and we will NEVER go back to this place. So So rude. AVOID AT ALL COSTS

The "Station" has everything a rural village pub should...a large bar where the locals, walkers (plus their dogs) and "stangers passing-by" congregate for drinks, chats, bar snacks & meals with a cosier snug for those who wish for a little privacy, all welcomed by a roaring real fire on colder days. Then there is the old dining-room with another fire set in a classic Victorian tiled surround, which is much favoured by family groups enjoying their meals, beyond which is the totally contrasting modern garden-room looking out onto the immaculate garden and delightful covered 'al-fresco' dining area. The a-la-carte menu is unusually extensive and covers everyone's tastes, the meals are prepared behing the scenes to order by skilled chefs, served generously portioned and nicely presented without undue delay by friendly waiters and, most importantly, at very reasonably prices. Needless to say, my wife and I eat there often. What a blow it was when the Coronavirus lockdown temporariy stopped all such activities"for the duration". But the owner and his ever helpful staff have rallied together and are now serving unbelievably good take-away meals from a wide ranging menu of Breakfasts through Small & Main Meals to Pizzas and Sunday Roasts. Being in the most vulnerable group, we have had meals delivered piping hot in thermal containers twice a week fo the past six including Fish Pies, Steak & Ale Pies, Fish Gougons, Fish & Chips, Sea Bass Fillets, Calves Liver & Onions and three excellent Sunday Roasts which, dare I say it, were every bit as good as those served in the restaurant, They even sell Draught Beers and other popular drinks. Thank you all so much, you make our incarceration bearable. we shall most certainly be back as soon as we feel safe to do so.

We ordered eight take-away meals from this excellent Inn yesterday and were very, very impressed with the standard, quality and organisation here. These were for our neighbours and us and the efficiency of their service is to be commended. Social distancing rules were strictly observed, the meals were ready to collect at the time arranged and all were hot, delicious and very much appreciated. An experience I would thoroughly recommend to anyone - try it, you will not be disappointed. We shall certainly be back for more very soon, they're something to look forward to during this strange time. There is an extensive menu to choose from on the internet, between us we tried five different dishes and all were judged excellent meals, excellent value and top marks to the chef.

Popped in whilst looking for a quick lunch. Very unusual setting for a tea room but works well with about 10 tables set up between the pews & the altar. The pews act as an overflow area if all tables are taken but we arrived as one was being vacated. Very friendly staff, a relaxing atmosphere and excellent value for money. Menu is limited to a choice of rolls, soup and a tempting range of homemade cakes & scones. Rolls could have improved if pickle, mustard or mayonnaise had been offered but the cakes & scones made up for this as they were very nice. The church itself is a delightful building and worth a visit in it’s own right. An interesting alternative lunch option.
